Horrible experience. Ordered a bunch of separate orders and they all came in one bag unlabeled and unorganized. TWO of the meals were combined into one meal and we were rudely told that we needed to split it ourselves even thought they were ordered as two separate meals. Also they told us it was our fault and we should have assumed that they would combine two separate orders and we need to let them know next time.(how does that make sense?) Their Customer service did not care at all and was quite rude. When we called for help in sorting the meals they told us to call Grubhub next time (as if they were the ones who packaged our food.) Pretty idiotic and a horrible experience. You wont catch me here again. Food was meh anyways. I recommend ALL INDIA CAFE instead. The only reason we didnt go to all india was because they were closed today. Praying I dont run into that problem again cause this place is not worth the headache if you're ordering a small lunch for a few people. it was a birthday lunch and it ruined her birthday since she had to call customer service at grubhub to deal with the issue. read more

This place has a new owner but the food is still delicious! Its a great, quick spot for authentic indian/pakistani food. The biryani is delicious (the rice cooked with chicken and alot if different flavors/spice). Also the kabobs are great. We get food catered from here all the time! A true hidden gem!! read more

Here I am sitting in front of my TV and having this intense craving have Indian food. I start thinking of where I have a had Indian food in the past and I few places come to mind and of course chutneys is one of them. I yelp around to see what was open and what some menus included. Indian food has become very expensive. Some places are serving a small Teaka masala plate for close to $15. Chutneys on the other hand is serving the same for only $8 with a bunch of sides. I drive down to go there with my entire family for a quick dinner. I park in front of their doors and I'm in shock to the health letter grade they have on their exterior doors. I talk with my family about whether we should eat there or go somewhere else. In case your wondering, the place had a B letter grade. We finally decide to eat in as we can see into their kitchen. We would be able to tell if something was unsanitary right away. The cashier seemed super new and even charged me wrong. He charged for an extra meal even though I never ordered it. I then told him about the mistake but he still mis-charged me again. The seating is super limited so we had to grab two tables. My food came out wrong but the gentleman cooking the food was super nice and fixed the issue. I will update this if I get food poisoning. Hence the B. Haha read more

My friend lost her purse in a parking lot in LA next to this restaurant.  They noticed us sitting outside their window and went outside and picked it up when we drove away.  When I called them later (because the store we HAD gone to didn't have a phone number, but I remembered the name of this place next door), they had it!  They refused to let my friend pay them a reward. I've been eating at Chutneys from opening for about 30 years. The food is consistently good, priced well and overall offers a great value. The chicken is delicious and the side dished compliments the lunch special perfectly (with the various sauces). The samosas are great as well (especially coming out hot and fresh) and at less then $2 each, it's no brainer. Chutneys is tucked in between a Subway and a pot shop in a small strip mall so it is easy to miss but worth searching for. Stop by and thank me later. read more

Been coming to this place since 2003 when the coworkers from my new job took me there to lunch. Tandori chicken was just delicious, great smoky flavor, juicy, tender meat seasoned just right. The sauces for the meat and naan perfectly complimented it. I could eat the same dish everyday, and pretty much did. Back then, to me, getting the 1/4 portion was just right, as 1/2 chicken felt too rich for my wallet at the time. The owner has a friendly smile, great personality, kinda stingy, but that's all what's lovable about him. We've gotten to talk a bit here and there because I've become a regular. His wife was great, typical asian restaurant owner type. People that wanted a 5 star service should go to a 5 star restaurant instead, but probably won't get food as good. If you want a ton of napkins, go to McDonalds. I have not visited for a couple of years since we've moved. Decided to get lunch today and see an old friend. His wife informed me that he passed away this year to natural causes. It broke me right there... Never cried ordering food. He was such a nice guy. Throughout all these years of chatting, I've never asked for his name and him my name. It was perfectly fine, seeing a familiar face was plenty enough. Please support their family and try their food. Craving Indian food and not wanting to spend Miracle Mile/Weho prices I came upon this little joint that I heard from others (not yelp) was pretty good. After the checked the prices I was pretty much sold. To be honest, I'm an east coaster and I have yet to be wowed by Indian on this side of the country so I came in with moderate to low expectations. For one, the restaurant is really clean with ample seating. The owner is super nice. For about $30 we ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken saag and the mixed grill. Chicken tikka and chicken saag is a solid 3.5 stars. The chicken tikka is more of a tomato base and not as thick or spicy as some other Indian places. However you get a ton of the curry and the taste is not bad at all. The chicken saag was good too, especially with rice. My favorite was the mixed grill and I def recommend getting yourself a plate of this. Comes with salad, rice and bread and a ton of meat all grilled to order. Very succulent and juicy. All and all, I have my favorites and walked away satisfied (both tummy and wallet). Would def recommend and come back for the mixed grill or chicken platter read more

First, I want to say thanks to Arali the cashier that was working when I came. She's a very sweet girl that I noticed was attending each customer right away with a smile. I saw they had a lunch special posted on their window and it looked good. I walked in and saw their huge menu. I wasn't sure if to get the special or to get something else. Well, I decided to give the half chicken special a try. When it was my turn to order I noticed in front of the cash register there was a sign that stated there was a minimum purchase of $10 to use a credit card. The lunch special with tax was about $8. I asked her if I needed to order something else or if I could use my card. She said not to worry about it. She gave me my cup and my receipt. While I was waiting for my food I decided to grab some salsas from their salsa bar. They only have three salsas, but they are very different from each other. There was green, red, and a white salsa. For some reason I thought I was going to enjoy the red one the most so I took two. My order was ready in about 5 minutes. I noticed they had napkins and forks on the counter next to the register so I checked if I had some in my bag. I just saw some naan (pitas) on top so I got a fork and some napkins. The straws and soda lids are also with the forks and napkins not near the soda machine. When I opened the to go food container the food look delicious. The chicken smelled so good. I took a bite and it was so good. It had a side salad which was just some onion and lettuce. It also came with a side of corn mixed with carrot. I loved the corn and the chicken. I didn't like the salad too much, but it wasn't bad. I tried the chicken with a bit of each salsa. My favorite one was the white one and I though that was the one I wasn't going to like. The one I didn't like was the red one. I thought it was going to be spicy and it was rather sweet. I tried it twice and didn't like it. The green one was good too. Parking here is a hassle sometimes. There is a subway and a Mexican place that share a small parking lot. There are about 10 spaces and they are usually occupied. There is also meter parking on the street. I give them 4 stars for the great customer service. They were friendly, fast and efficient. The food was also really really good. I will be back soon. read more

I didn't want to travel far for Indian. The chicken samosa was below average, the filling not flavorful, just grounded chicken. The pastry layers were too thick, not light and flaky. I ordered the lamb paneer which came with naan, rice and a salad for $10. The spiciness level of all their dishes I'm told is mild. Large servings. Nice lean chunks of lamb but too mild. You can add three sauces. The green is spicy, the white yogurty one is spicy with a nutty taste and the red sauce is sweet. The plain naan was good. I liked the corn and onion salad although heavy on the raw onion. I would come back even though they forgot about my samosa order, only because it's closer to me than my go-to place, the amazing Samosa House West in Culver City. There's only a handful of parking spaces in this strip mall, but there's probably more on the street. I noticed in the window that there's a special on chicken: a half chicken with rice, naan, salad, and a drink for $8, which is frankly an amazing deal. The food was made to order, which was really cool. The chicken was great: even the white meat was juicy and tender. The rice was nice for soaking up all the chicken juices, and the salad was decent too. The naan was good, but I could only a eat a couple bites before I was full. The guy who took my order (seemed like the owner) and the cooks behind the counter who brought my food out were all super friendly. The restaurant is bright and clean. Seems like a great place to get good Indian/Pakistani food on the cheap. Seriously, where in LA can you get a complete lunch cooked to order for $8?! read more

Chutneys is a hole-in-the-wall halal Indian fast food restaurant that was strongly recommended by one of my coworkers. Honestly I would probably not come here if I just purely read Yelp's reviews. Parking: Free & pretty small parking lot (enough spaces to fit less than 10 cars) and the lot is shared among few other restaurants (e.g. Subway & Tacos La Flama). The restaurant was pretty empty when I came here and I just stared at the TV while I was waiting for my order during the entire time. No restroom access here and expect minimal service. *** Combination (Chicken Tikka & Lamb Kabab - served with naan, rice, salad, and raita, $10): Naan was top notch - soft and fluff. Meat quality for lamb kabab wasn't too good (dry and not tender), but lamb kabab had a strong and flavorful seasoning. Chicken tikka also had a strong peppery taste. Corn kernel were average at best. (3.5/5) *** If you don't have too much expectation on service + gloomy dining environment (both are some reasons why the average rating is 3.5-star), then Chutneys is not a bad place to visit for slightly-better-than-average halal food. BEST DAL I HAVE EVER TASTED.....EVEN IN INDIA. . I come once every two weeks and buy the biggest container of dal, take it home and have rice and dal for a couple of days. Heaven. Small hole in the wall family owned location WARNING: they do have a very small parking lot. However it's LA so we take what we can get am I right? Pros: The food is DELICIOUS! You can tell everything is fresh especially the chicken tikka and kabobs. I can see a lot of desi (Pakistani Indian) people not liking this place because the owner doesn't cook traditional style in the sense that his spices are very much on the MILD side. For example, his chicken tikka is not spicy at all and there not reddish in color. However, that does not mean the food is void of flavor. In fact, all his recipes are amazing and remind me of home cooked food!! If he were closer to OC I would go here all the time. I like it much much much better than Noorani. Also my family's experience with the owners has been nothing but great so good service as well. Cons: It is a pretty small location so isn't that great for big groups. But they are really great with take out so that's another option. I mentioned the parking lot previously. read more

The Pros: I'm not a big fan on Indian food, but this place is reallllly good. Their chicken curry is good, some said it's more like a stew and I do agree, but it's delicious either way! Today I got the 2 entree combo, with beef kabob & dahi chicken it was really tasty! MUST GET THE RED SAUCE!! If you are a fan of sweet and light sauce you need to try!! The Cons: The downside is that I only ordered 1 garlic naan bread but he charged us for two, stated that I ordered two orders of it. Online it showed that it's 2.25 for garlic naan bread, but he charged us $6.5 which is 3.25 each :/... the garlic naan is good but it was such a waste because we ended up throwing it away since it was too much..... VERY NICE STAFF, But man is the food not at all authentic! My partner & I was craving Indian food for awhile now & Otw home from the beach I seen the restaurant at the corner while I was at a stop light & thought I hit jackpot! & The food smelled sooo good otw home back to the valley.
