I ordered my food this past Tuesday at 6:30pm, I got to Chuys at 7:15pm, no mobile text link to let them know I am there. So I look at receipt and it says food will be ready at 8pm. Wait? So 1.5 hour wait for to go food? So I go inside, and they say they have a 25-35 min wait. So I then ask to cancel my order to go to Vaqueros, and they say a manager has to do it. I wait, a woman comes by and confirms I want to cancel and says they will get a manager. ( I could have told her that). She comes back without a manager and says it was canceled. Now, it wouldn't have changed my mind but when you ask, shouldn't they say "was everything OK?" Or something just to see. I mean I'm literally standing in your business. Nope. They were fine with canceling it. So I went to Vaqueros and spent even more. I guess now that it's Chuy Garden having been bought by Olive Garden (Darden) they don't care. I was hurting for food and feeling pretty hangry. I'm so glad that Chuys was still open. It's one of the few restaurants open after 9:30pm in this part of Austin. Our waitress, Krystle, was amazing. Superb service and great food. I recommend the Special Nachos with everything on it AND extra jalapeños. And the complimentary refillable chips at salsa was on point. Chuy's is generally my first stop when I make it back to Austin to visit home. I grew up with Chuy's, so not only is it a fond memory, but they got me hooked early on creamy jalapeno and no matter what I try to do, I can never forget it. First note, you should always expect to wait. This location is packed all the time. I highly recommend getting there before you are absolutely starving, but if you can't, they offer free chips, salsa, and queso in the bar area while you are waiting. The bartenders are quick to serve and never complain about making a complicated margarita. I love the frozens because they are made in machines and never give me that grainy, crunchy ice feel. The flavors change, but the huckleberry is my favorite so far. For food, the specials are where it's at. Chuy's stays on top of what is seasonal, and the green hatch chilie items are always fantastic. When in doubt, the fajitas will never disappoint (pro tip: make sure you ask for extra creamy jalapeno to put on them). With the exposed kitchen, you can watch (and drool) as the homemade tortillas make their way around the circular oven. Prices are reasonable, staff is quick and helpful, and food is great. I've been going to Chuy's for nearly 30 years, but the quality of the food has been steadily declining (to me) over the past 5 or six years. They changed the menu during the pandemic, and never added back my favorite (and you would thing cheapest thing they could make/sell) desert -- their awesome sopapillas. The flautas, which I used to crave, started to taste more like something that had been pre-cooked, frozen, and then reheated. The last time I ate their I was told they've stopped offering their chipotle sauce (which used to be standard) on their flauatas. The waiter had no idea why, but was told they were not allowed to add it, period. It was the same at multiple locations. Their to-go app was handy during the pandemic but no longer actually works (see the multiple negative reviews of that, below). I don't know what happened -- maybe they just grew too fast too quickly. I miss the previous quality and am not expecting things to improve with their new merger. On the other hand, we're blessed with so many great choices for TexMex in this city, I don't miss too much. The old Chuy's that my family knew and loved is no more. Overloaded waitstaff, a severely cut back menu, and running out of items (beans, dessert, dressings) left me unimpressed. The taco salad (no more tortilla bowl??) was barely acceptable, and I found wilted greens hidden beneath "good" greens that I would have thrown out at home. Our waiter had way too many tables to work efficiently, and he WAS trying his best. This isn't the first time that I've had an experience like this here (Research location) and had I not been with a group, I wouldn't have come at all. While the server was taking my order he noticed that another server had taken one of his tables and completely ignored me while I was telling him my order. All he said to the other server was "hey, that table is mine." And didn't proceed to write anything down about what I ordered. He got everything wrong on my order. I wouldn't have actually ordered any of it myself. I feel like he knew that since it was lunch time and that we were a group of professionals that he didn't have to worry about being stiffed on the tip and didn't put as much attention into my order. Anyway, the part that I could actually eat (due to dietary restrictions) was good. But since everything else was wrong I basically just ate some rice. I'm disappointed. read more

Such a fun environment with lots of cool seating outside. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was slammed so you know it's a favorite local spot. Our server was very friendly and made great recommendations. I was between two margaritas and he surprised me with what he said was one of the favorites. And it was pretty amazing (grand ma's margarita). My parents split the special of the day and said it was good, full of flavor. We had a short wait for our table and were seated on the porch where Noah served us. Noah was awesome! He was super attentive to all of his tables. Anytime I needed anything he was there checking in and got things to us in an efficient and timely manner. Went the extra mile to find some mosquito spray to share with us, which was much appreciated. It was a nice relaxing evening on the porch. Thank you Noah for the great service! Yelp rating: a-ok. With its honky-tonk charm, I end up going to a Chuy's more times than I'd like to admit to but it's petered out to 2-4 times per year. This trip happened to be a group dinner and I have to give credit to the wait staff. The service was good. Also the happy hour taco bar is legit; go for that. This review however is about the yawn-worthy regular menu. Chuy's has a saying: "When you've been to one Chuy's, you've only been to one Chuy's." Well, I'm here to dispel that notion. It really does seem like if you've seen one Chuy's you've seen them all, and they're all "just okay." Nothing at Chuy's really stands out as being extraordinarily good or special. Being a master of nothing, Chuy's serves up a relatively decent, limited Tex-Mex menu consistently so you can't go very wrong no matter what you order. The "secret" of the creamy jalapeño sauce is a highlight, but that's about it. It'd be awesome if every location has an special dish that was just theirs. Or even some more adventurous dishes, but when you're running an operation as large as this, the best you can hope for is food that meets the level of "good catering." My go-to dishes are the Chile Relleño, Enchiladas, and Taco Salads. The Elvis plate is a common pick as well but it's really more novelty than special. I want to love you, Chuy's, because of your roots and your wanting to be weird, but you're just not doing it well. @Chuy's - consider offering some more daring dishes or even a steak! Let me state up front that I LOVE Chuys 183 and have for 20+ years. It is a huge family favorite and I will continue to go back. But this review is specific to their take out service. I have done take out 50+ times from the 183 location for years with minimal issues but the increased demand on this part of the restaurant operations is simply broken, at least from 5-8pm on many days. My most recent negative incident was this past Friday when I called in the order directly to make sure I got an accurate wait time estimate (45 min, no problem). I arrived at this time, texted from my car as instructed, and began a wait that was 30+ minutes despite assurances they would be out 'very soon'. This is has been my experience for the past 3 times over the past 2 months and is simply unacceptable IMO. If the wait is going to be over an hour let me know and it's no big deal. I can at least make an informed decision and get other things done beforehand if needed. The icing on the cake Friday was that I got home and found that my daughter's kid meal had been left out and yet I was charged for it. I called in and got a refund for that $6 but I had to make something else at home for her, which made the experience even more painful. So 183 Chuys please please please take efforts to get better in this area however necessary. Everyone obviously loves you with the volume of orders but you're disappointing many of us during our time of TexMex need! read more

So we went to lunch here today cause it's close tot he house and we wanted some Tex-Mex and a patio. Have been here many times before, but today we decided we will never return. While the patio was quite nice, the service was absolutely horrible. I'll keep it short. they got our order totally wrong, so we pointed it out to our waitress and we "re-ordered" . When she brought the check she actually charged us for the wrong order AND the re-order!!! brought the check and told us she was giving us our tea and soda as a comp!!!! The only downside is we were quoted 15-20 minutes and we waited at least 30-40 for a table. I know they were busy, and even though the waitress was kind, we waited way too long for every piece of our meal and for the check. It shouldn't take 10-15 minutes to get a second round of drinks, even when busy. Our group of 3 took about 15 minutes to get seated indoors while there was no wait for outdoor seating -- but Texas outdoor seating is HOT, no kidding.
