First time I walked in, it was a bit overwhelming with everything going on inside--but nonetheless a great atmosphere. It was pretty crowded at dinner time, and the parking lot leaves something to be desired...but of course they took over from the previous restaurant so that can't be helped. There was plenty to choose from, and all of it looked good. Although I feel that the prices were a little bit higher than other restaurants, but it could be because it's not a local chain. My friends who were with me got a quesadilla and a burrito, which they LOVED. I got the taco salad with the fajita chicken and it was delicious! There were many other things I'd like to try the next few times I go back. Other than waiters carrying around an ice-scooper full of chips to dump at tables who are running low (which is cool), there are many different sauces to choose from for your meals that suite any taste! It's a great change from having either "mild" or "hot" at other mexican restaurants. I also loved their ranch/jalepeno dip that they bring out for you to try as well. So far, I just have one complaint: no lunch menu. The first time I went I was a little saddened to find there wasn't an extra menu with smaller portions for cheap. Chuy's in Louisville. Cheesy decor, enjoyed eating outside on the patio. Food...horrible. I had the Chuyachanga, a signature dish. It was over-fried, about the size of large burrito and when you get it with chicken, it's like 'Where's Waldo' with finding it. The big thing that got me was claiming "New Mexican Green Chile" Lies. I have a deeper respect for my mom's cooking. I ordered it with green chile sauce and queso on the inside...it had zero spice and tasted like I was eating a baked potato that had been heated in a microwave. They had a nasty ranch sauce at the start, with I guess jalepeno spice in it that was not hot at all. The only decent part of the meal is the chips and salsa (if you could get the chip to actually not break and hold the salsa). But the salsa wasn't that bad and I ended up filling up on it because my meal was awful. I have heard many people claim this place is great Mexican food...unfortunately they are mistaken. I did not enjoy the taste of my meal at all. People really think this is a good TexMex??? I have a feeling that tastebuds in Kentucky are quite lacking. Go to Tarahumaras in Oklahoma and try to compare...I am ashamed I thought it would be decent here. A bright side to the place was the server. He was quite funny, genuinely cared about what we thought and how our experience was going. He offered to make me a new plate if I didn't like it or new rice. He did say they used to use hotter spices with food, but people complained. Not good for someone who likes it spicy like myself. Finally, paying for sopapillas?!?! Every place in my home state of Oklahoma provides them free of charge as a courtesy. Most places also have queso complimentary with the set up. Very disappointed in the service. We arrived after 4 pm for happy hour. We went to the taco bar to get queso to eat with our chips. Both times they were out. We advised our waiter and his response was he doesn't stock that. I should have asked for a manager. When you have happy hour weekdays between 4-7 pm, keep your taco bar stocked. Train your employees to respond appropriately to customer concerns. It is every employee's responsibility to take care of customers. We won't be back. read more

Although it is a chain restaurant, it is very good. I have been to the one in Clarksville, louisville, and Nashville, they have all been great. The food is good and the drinks are good too. They have an amazing nacho bar, it seems to be a highlight for people. The customer service is usually wonderful and the atmosphere is authentic. read more

My wife and I have been twice now, once with another couple and once with a group of 12 people. The first time was a great experience. We sat in the bar area and Jewel's was great. Our food was excellent and our service was as well. On the next occasion with a large party the experience was less than satisfying. Our server was slow and our food came to the table lukewarm. I ordered the Southwestern plate with blue corn tortillas and an egg placed on top. As soon as the I looked at the egg, I knew the dish had sat on the service counter too long. So, my advice is to go with no more than 4 people at a time. Your food should arrive hot, not lukewarm. I'll go back, just not with as many friends. read more

I've been to Chuy's several times.... & will likely not return. The atmosphere is great, decor is very unique. But service & food quality is non-existent. My last visit I ordered a steak burrito, & I had my food less than 5 minutes from ordering. Although most think speedy service is great, I work in the food industry, & I have very high expectations. The food was rubbery, & luke warm. Obviously microwaved. They were not busy, & we waited for several refills on drinks. I know many restaurants use microwaves, but it would be extremely nice to have time to THINK your cooking my food. If it wasn't microwaved it was precooked & sat in a warmer. Highly disappointed by the food quality. If your looking for a "speedy service" tex mex restaurant, I would recommend Taco Bell before Chuy's read more

Apparently when you leave your things in the restaurant it'll be instantly stolen. After forgetting my phone at the table, I returned back in less than three minutes to search for it in a dead restaurant and empty section to find it missing. After approaching our server, I was easily dismissed and ignored. My friend attempted to ask her as well if she saw a phone and she walked away without saying a word. I explained to management who our server was and was also dismissed with a "We'll call if we find it". While I was there another server have told me that it was the fifth thing stolen that day. The establishment has no security cameras so I was unable to see who took the phone but I'm pretty sure it was not a patron since the whole area we were sitting in was dead. I will not be returning and I warn anyone who goes to make sure that all their belongings are close to their person. read more

We're Texans, and Chuy's is our go-to for the best fajitas in town. We've had really great experiences, both dining in and getting curbside. Most recently, our meal was particularly spicy and had a lot of jalapeños that weren't usually there, so it was difficult to eat. I called the manager to let him know, but assured him that we would be back and didn't need anything - I just wanted to let them know something was off. The manager was really kind and understanding (and sent us a free meal voucher) and I was blown away by the customer service. Amazing work chuy's! I'm super impressed. read more

Living in Louisville we get spoiled by having so many good local restaurants to choose from. Many people, myself included, tend to forget about the chain restaurants because of all of our awesome local options. If you have passed on Chuy's in the past because of it being a chain I would suggest you reconsider. To start off with, the creamy jalapeno dip you get when you are first seated is liquid crack. I would drink it if that was socially acceptable. Its that good. As far as the entrees go my favorite is the shrimp chili rellenos. The pepper has a nice crispy exterior that perfectly contrasts the gooey cheesy inside. Some of my other favorites are the the baja tacos and the tortilla soup. I am always surprised at how fresh everything tastes. Chuys does have that bland/sterile taste that a lot of chain restaurants have. To round things off service is always fast and friendly and the drink menu is big enough to make anyone happen. read more

Met with our group a little after they were seated and sat at a booth next to them and our main waitress was nice, understand she's busy with a large group so service may be a little slower, but I would never expect another waitress being absolutely rude to us. She delivered our food like it was an inconvenience wroth an attitude in her rive of voice. Then we asked for silverware and she didn't acknowledge that we asked for it and walked away to another table, so I had to get up and look for silverware, I asked the bartender and then she asked who I'm thinking is the manager who was about to walk right past me until she stopped him. He gave me the silverware when I walk by the same rude waitress I guess she saw and rushed to our table before I got there to give our silverware so I handed her the ones I retrieved and she basically snatched them out my hands. I have never had that kind of service from anywhere I've eaten. Coming from the restaurant industry and being a pretty patient person that attitude and her actions only made me frustrated that service like that is acceptable because I can see the one I think is the manager does not pay attention to his employees or customers because if he did he would have approached the group to ask how everything was our have seen how his employees work. I honestly don't know whats the appeal with this place. For one, it's a Tex-Mex restaurant...like we don't already have enough of those! The decor, while I suppose would be considered retro & hip, just doesn't seem to go with the cuisine. Yes, the stores ambiance needs to compliment the cuisine. So why am I looking at a hundred framed photos of dogs while I eat my bastardized version of a taco? Which brings me to the food...which is a cruel joke to the palate. Let me be very clear: I am the most non-picky eater one would ever meet. So when I say I don't like something, it must be really bad. I got the Mama's Stacked Enchiladas with the rice pilaf and churro beans, a side taco (flour...lmbo), and a side of their green chile (I asked for salsa verde). After taking two bites of each, I had enough. And before u think "oh, he just had a bad, one-off experience", this was my second visit. I came opening night; wasn't impressed then, still not. By the time I placed my order at Chuy's the bright fun ambiance and the hour long wait due to a packed house had built high expectations for an amazing meal. I was excited to see a menu that diverged from the tired and identical standards that so many of Louisville's Mexican restaurants offer. My fellow diner and I placed our orders and then eagerly ate our salsa (very fresh) and our queso dip appetizer (tasty) while we waited an extraordinarly long time for our meals to arrive. I'll chalk the long wait up to the very busy night that they appeared to be having but by the time we waited another 45 minutes for our entrees on top of the hour to get a table our starvation had taken us through three baskets of chips. I'll even chalk up having to ask our waitress for napkins as well as their being out of grenadine to their busy night. However, once the entrees arrived on the scene we both immediately noticed that the plating looked like it had been done assembly line style rather than being put together as a cohesive dish. Of course this could have easily been overlooked if the food was amazing but it wasn't. My "Southwestern" was painfully dry because they had taken and layered blue corn tortillas with chicken but had put no sauce in any of the layers to moisten it. They simply poured sauce and a fried egg overtop which layed there without soaking in. My fellow diner ordered the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom and found the accompanying rice and beans to be inedible due to their consistency. I'll give Chuy's two stars for exciting ambiance and refreshing variety but I just can't endorse them beyond that becasue I know that there are better options for a south of the border experience in Louisville. read more

Super thin and crispy chips! They came out warm and had multiple people keep coming by to too them off! They salsa is very fresh and good--a little on the spicy side but not too bad. The food came quickly and it was very hot and tasty. Price for one appetizer, two entrees, two sodas and two mixed drinks was reasonable at $48 plus tip! It's a Tex-next and that's what they claim to be! Don't listen to the disappointed reviewers who think we have better "authentic" Mexican restaurants! This is tex mex!!! I have eaten several times at the Chuys in MurfreesbororTN and always enjoy it. I happened to be passng through Louisville and remembered there was a new Chuys so I figured I'd give it a try. No regrets! The food and service were both very good! I always enjoy the Texas Martini but passed on it this time as I was traveling. My only comment would be that the portion on the Fajita Chicken Tacos was a little modest, however with the chips, rice, beans etc I definately didn't leave hungry. When I called to get directions the Hostess was very helpful. I look forward to my next trip to Louisville and Chuys. read more

One day after dinner I left my wallet filled with all important things in the restaurant and it was not till the second day that I realised what had happened, I called the store around 11:00am and the manager said they have it and he had put it in the safe after the server turned it in, i am thankful to them beyond words.They did not take any reward I offered and said they did what they were suppose to do. I was happy that I had chosen to eat there that night and not somewhere else, since then we have eaten there many times and told lot of our friends about it and they have all promised to visit the PLACE WHERE PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO DO. REALLY don't understand the hype over this restaurant. My boyfriend and I attempted to go there once or twice and found extremely long wait times. Once we finally decided to wait as they told us under 20 minutes, we found the food pretty disappointing. I love spicy food and there was NOTHING on the menu that looked like it would come close. Granted, places like Tumbleweed don't have spicy dishes really either, but at least they have flavor. Both of us got different sampler plates so I got to try a variety and I was disappointed in everything. We also had a couple of the special drinks on the menu and both were awful. We neither one have any desire to go back. A friend of ours even got sick from the food, barely getting out of the restaurant before it hit him. We drive past this restaurant on our way to our usual Friday "Haunt", Fox and Hound, and they are always busy. I just don't understand! The only plus from this place for us was discovering Fox and Hound as one of the nights Chuy's was too packed to stay at, we walked next door to the Fox and go almost every week now. read more

I don't know what happened during my last visit but it wasn't good all around. I ended up paying $11 for a steak burrito which I don't think was steak. Everything about it was bland as could be. In the end I had to add salsa and cheese from the nacho bar to even remotely taste anything. My dining partner ordered 2 different enchiladas and she couldn't tell them apart. My coke was just nasty and the waitress substituted it with sweet tea which to be honest wasn't much of an upgrade. Just as well because all too often my drink just sat empty on the table. I guess even the waitress thought why bother... Nothing has ever stood out though whereas every dish is a different combination of the exact same options. And how in the world is the Green Chili Rice the only thing hot in the place? The Boom Boom sauce sure isn't. Might be a long time before I stop in for a visit again. I had heard such rave reviews of this place. Went there with a fairly decent sized party for a friends birthday. The wait time was ridiculous at almost an hour, and this is after being placed on the waitlist via internet check in. After waiting an hour, we were seated. The free chips and Jalapeño ranch dip is decent. But let's dive into why I'm really here, the food was atrocious. I mean terrible, completely over priced and bland! For a place with such praise and huge wait times, I expected way more. I only paid for three meals and it was 70 dollars! I have had Mexican cuisine 10 times better than that of Chuy's and only paid 25-30 bucks for my family to eat and leave satisfied. My son literally almost vomited on the walk to the car and repeatedly washed his mouth out with water. I'm not one to complain when it comes to dining out, but I couldn't keep myself from letting people know this place is terrible! Do yourself a favor and continue to give your business to your small local Mexican Restaurants, they will take better care of you and serve you much better food. It's ok. I'd maybe wait 15-20 min tops to be seated but no more. very crowded, very noisy--which would be fine if the food was awesome. But it's ok.... The sauces are good but nothing special (see my review of la columbiana), but the food that the sauces cover is so-so. Still haven't found a good chille rellenos in this town, nor have we identified what we would deem an authentic Mexican or New Mexican restaurant. ...but then again, we are in Louisville, and chuy's is purportedly Tex Mex, and not Mexican or new Mexican. Alas, we will probably go back for the bland chille rellenos, and I'll just ask that it be drenched in sauce to make up for the lack of taste and the greasy crunchy batter that covers it. read more

I like this place. I know it is Merica/ Mexy food, but I don't give a kiss less so long as its good. Chuy's food is good stuff, not super fantastic, but good. The dipping sauces for their chips are very good. One is just a very good salsa, the other is some kind of spicy ranch. Both are very good and really pair well with their thin style chips. The main dishes are huge. They go over board with the size, but we do not mind taking home left overs. If you are light eaters I recommend just splitting the combo appetizer plate. Truly, as a lunch, it can feed two people easy. Plus it gives you a nice variety. Also I like the atmosphere and service. We have yet to get bad service and the decor is full of eye candy. This is very true if you are a dog fan. They have pictures of people's dogs all over the place. Bring in a framed pic of your dog and get a free appetizer. When you walk in the front double door, walk up the ramp to your right, at the very first support pillar just above the stucco you will see a oval framed, convex glass, black and white pic of the best dam dog ever.
