I discovered Chuy's during Covid and drove over 30 minutes to get there. I've gone plenty of times since then, and the drive is always worth it. The food is very consistent and the tortillas always taste amazing and very authentic. My favorite meal to get is the chicken flautas. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the chicken quesadillas that are as an appetizer, but that is what my mom ordered and they tasted absolutely amazing, the tortilla is fresh and the chicken was well seasoned. It came out very hot and was super tasty. I ordered the chicken flautas, but they felt a little overcooked but still a 10 out of 10. My favorite is the jalapeño ranch that comes with the chips and salsa. The tres leche cake is absolutely amazing. The cake is super moist and has a great flavor- I wish it came with more strawberries, because every bite with the strawberry is refreshing. I absolutely love all the puppies that are on the walls, it gives a great feel to the restaurant. Our server was very sweet and knowledgeable, service was a little bit slow, but it was fairly shortstaffed. She did an amazing job keeping our drinks filled and refilling the chips. We went to Chuy's near Lutz, FL for the first time since living in Texas in 2018. The Big As Yo' Face Burrito has always been a favorite of my husband's, and he was not disappointed! The waiter helped me decide between a frozen grapefruit sangria or a frozen peach sangria by bringing me a small sample of each. The peach it was! I am not a fan of spicy foods, so I ordered a salad with fajita steak. The waiter mistakenly brought me a salad with chicken, but to be honest I didn't notice for a few minutes because there were too many items on the salad to notice it was chicken. After a few minutes, I realized it was chicken and told my husband. I did not want a new salad with steak - I just did not want to pay the higher amount for steak and wanted to make sure our tab was changed. I wanted to show the waiter that it was chicken, so I had to stop eating until he came back around, as I am supposed to eat my protein first, then my veggies. When we finally saw our waiter, he said he would change the tab. I asked for "to-go" containers and received them promptly, but then when I asked for a bag to put the containers in, we got tired of waiting for his return so we left and asked the hostess in the lobby for a bag and she had some right there. All in all, the food was great, service was acceptable. I did notice the tables and chairs were pretty beat up, looked like they had seen better days. Service is the principal reason I gave it two stars. I looked up and noticed the stemware hanging off the rack and decided I would order a beer instead of a wine. I hope the stemware was washed properly and the stains on them were "soap" residue. Either way it's not good. I elected to err on the side of caution, what disturbed me about this is I remember reading a post from a while ago talking about the same issue. Now, before you start the criticism understand I have been a caterer and this would not fly in my organization. Food - I was hoping for more flavor, more spice, more of everything that makes Mexican cuisine soar. Not so much here, quite disappointed when Taco Bell gets higher marks. And not to compare restaurants, but the Chuy's in Orlando (Semorian Road) was way better. So, naturally we thought this one would be comparable. We've been wanting to try this place for a couple years but good ole Covid kept us away. Today was our lucky day. we arrived at lunch time and were seated immediately. In seconds chips and salsa plus a ranch dressing type sauce with a kick that I absolutely loved were on our table. Nice! I ordered the chicken flautas. It came with rice and beans, guac, sour cream and had a sauce over them which I asked our waitress not to have put on because I fully intended to use that yummy ranch sauce. Dish came and I had rice & rice no beans and the flautas did not seem to have cheese in them. But our waitres, Angelina, who was incredible, immediately brought me a side of beans. There were 6 flautas on my plate, too much for me so gave hubby some. I thought they were very good, chicken not dry at all and fried perfectly! The restaurant itself was not huge, but comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating. Restroom very clean as well as the rest of the place. All staff were very friendly. One thing to know if you are going here at lunch time and what you are ordering seems a bit too much for lunch, just ask for the lunch portion and they will cut the order down along with the price. A coworker recommended I stop for lunch at Chuy's Tex-Mex when I was in Lutz today. I am so glad she did!!! It's a funky - eclectic Tex-Mex restaurant! And I'm a sucker for ambiance! It reminded me of a Mexican version of Buca di Beppo. It definitely had a fun fresh vibe!! The hostess led me to my seat but I was like a kid in a candy store and took a quick browse around. They had a dining room that was decorated in hubcaps. And my dining area had palm tree statues in the center of the room, 60s style diner chairs and tons of Mexican paintings and framed portraits. I was one of two groups dining in so I wasn't lurking over people eating ;) My server was great and immediately brought me chipa, salsa and a creamy jalapeno dip and took my drink order. I browsed the throwaway menu and knew I was getting tacos as soon as I saw them! Fun fact, they make their own flour tortillas! As much as I wanted to sample the tortillas, I ordered the hardshell tacos since it came with 3 tacos vs. 2 flour for the same price. My food came about 5 minutes after I ordered and was hot and fresh. The refried beans were the best I'd tasted in any Mexican place I'd recently eaten at. My only complaint was the hard shells tasted stale :( I was still looking at the menu as I ate and saw several family meals to go. I decided to place an order for a family taco kit. The 6 taco kit was only $25 and came with 6 flour tortillas/ Mexican rice/ refried beans/ nacho sauce/ salsa/ jalapeno sauce/ lettuce/ tomatoes/ shredded cheese/ a huge bag of chips! The first thing I have to say (so it is heard) is that SCOTT is the best server ever!!! This was my first visit to any Chuy's location and he made the experience insanely amazing! Attentive, super fun, very accurate, professional, spirited, hilarious, knowledgeable and overly willing to make sure we had a perfect visit. Mind you, we went for happy hour and basically ate for free (our drinks made up for it)... If you've never heard of Chuy's legendary happy hour, you are not alone. Neither had I. My sister let me in on the 'free nacho bar' secret. Between 4-7pm Monday through Friday, Chuy's opens up the "nacho car" so that you can load up on free nachos with toppings. Ground beef, refried beans, queso and two types of salsa. This is UNLIMITED! Not to mention you also get a complimentary basket of nachos with salsa and ranch dip delivered to your table anytime you dine here. Happy hour drink specials include margaritas (between $5-$8), beer and wine. Get there early though..after 5pm it gets so crowded that you'll see a line out the door. Side note: if you bring a framed picture of you dog for their wall, you can get a free appetizer. ANY appetizer. So of course my sister and I got the appetizer sampler (normally around $12) which had a little bit of everything. Scott was totally cool with placing our large free order and happily recognized that we had our dog picture with us. He also provided me with a house made hot sauce with chunks of luscious jalapeños. In early September, I paid my second visit to this location. The decor is fun and eclectic... with sort of a 50s Texas diner/road house thing going on underneath. The menu was smaller than last time, because of the pandemic, which I totally understand and support. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verde, like last time, and they are excellent. I also tried the queso-which has a smokier taste than most places-very different, and good. I need to go back and do a deep dive research project into the margarita list. We have ordered more Chuy's in the last 4 months than I have in the past 4 years living right now the street from one in Gainesville, FL. The Chuy's in Lutz is quick, efficient, fun and the food taste great the margaritas are amazing. During COVID-19 you could order to go margaritas and boy are they good. for $45 you get a pitcher or their homemade margarita mix, a small bottle of patron tequila, a lime wedge, salt for your rim, and chips and salsa! This is a wonderful deal! They also have another margarita you can get that is cheaper or you can get single serving frozen margaritas as well. We probably ordered margarita every Friday for March, April and most of May. We also have ordered food from here a few times as well. We love the taco salad, the fajitas for 2, and the queso with ground beef inside. The food always taste wonderful. I think they have some of the best chips and salsa in town and the service is pretty phenomenal. The creamy jalapeno dressing is pretty epic and taste amazing. This is good on pretty much everything you buy here! The service has always been great. When getting to go, you pull into your spot, text the number on the spot with your order and they bring it right out to you. You know you order from here a lot when they start to recognize you! We usually start with the Nachos (the cheeeeese!?!?!) while enjoying the salsa (salsa verde please) and the chips? Perfect crunch... perfectly fried. After the Nachos comes the Fajitas. The portion's are always large enough that we have to get boxes. It's always nice to not only have enough for the two of us (or more) to eat, but, for me to have enough for a snack (or meal) later. The pricing also is very.. reasonable. Last but not least, thank you to whomever trains the staff here. I've been here with a few people here and there that are not always the perfect customers. Thank you for bearing with certain people, and still staying amazing. I somehow always end up doubling my tip amount here, for many reasons, but, it usually has to do with the amazing staff here. Because finally, we have another great Tex-Mex option in the Bay Area. --- --- --- For years, my wife and I have felt that the only place in Tampa Bay that even remotely reminds us of the wonderful Tex-Mex in Houston has been Miguel's. Like both of us, Miguel grew up in Houston and he does a phenomenal job of bringing home that sweet H-town nostalgia in the form of fajitas, quesadillas, queso, etc. And then Chuy's opened up and now there are two! Chuy's checks every box of what you want in a Tex-Mex experience. Queso: While it's a little bit spicier than we'd prefer, they have a freaking help-yourself-nacho-bar, which saves you several dollars from ordering queso from your server. We ended up trying the queso with beef in it, but preferred the plain. Either way, it was delicious. Fajitas: This is a giant platter of high-grade beef, peppers and onions and it comes out smoking. They then provide you with some buttery soft tortillas, rice, beans, guac, sour cream and all the other veggie accompaniments. The beef has the exact flavor that I hope for every time I even think about a Mexican restaurant. Price: A++. My wife and I got more food than we could eat and the total came to $34 before tip. Two days earlier we visited a significantly less awesome Tex-Mex spot and paid about $10 more for less food. Y'all...it's Chuy's. If you've been to one you should know what to expect. This Chuy's does justice to the brand. The design is great. Probably the best waiting area I've ever seen for a Chuy's. You can wait outside, inside, or at the bar (I recommend the bar because the Texas tini...duh). I was delighted with our service. Everyone had a big smile on their face. The chips and salsa never sat empty before being replaced and our order came out hot, speedy and accurate. Pretty solid and satisfying experience. If you haven't been to Chuy's it's pretty simple: funky design, cheeky tshirts, margaritas, free chips and salsa, pictures of dogs, the word Texas a hundred times, oh and there's food-Tex Mex ~style~ . Basically, you don't really go to a Chuy's for the food.. it's definitely more about the experience. With the exception being the tortillas, because the tortillas are really great, almost pita-like. They're also super passionate about their sauces. If you're an enchilada person, this is a great place for you (unless you're some kind of an enchilada purist). I've been going to Chuy's for almost 30 years now. My first visit was when I lived in Austin Tx. The original location. Since living in FL, I've been going to the Orlando locations until the Wesley Chapel location opened up. Chuy's has always been incredible over the years I've eaten there. This one in Wesley chapel keeps falling way short. A few months back, my wife and I ate there. They ended up bringing us another tables meal. No silverware. Had to ask 3 different times to get silverware. Couldn't get drink refills. My wife got up and got the refills for us. Chalked that up as a bad night. Fast forward to the last 2 months with take out only for COVID. We've ordered 4 times either delivery or pickup. Every time there was a problem with the order. Either items missing or wrong. The last order was 3 days ago. The Chicken tacos had little meat and stale shells. Asked for double rice instead of rice and beans. Got double beans. The tacos looked terrible. You would think during these times where restaurants are struggling that they would try harder to earn my business. They fell very short at this location. It's a shame that one of my favorite restaurants is so close and I can't seem to get the same service as other locations have provided us for close to 30 years. I'm going to have to go back to the Orlando locations. Hopefully some day the Wesley Chapel location will get things right. read more

I'll start off by saying that I've never been a fan of Mexican food. It always seemed like they use the same 4 ingredients to make all of their dishes. I've tried all sorts of meals in all sorts of restaurants and always left disappointed. That is until I walked into Chuy's. Now granted, Chuy's is a chain, and I know what you're thinking, chain restaurant food blows. Normally I would agree, however, no so with Chuy's. First of all, they use fresh ingredients. How can I tell? Well, besides the taste, you can see that every vegetable is cut differently. These didn't come out of a machine from some factory. There is a person in the back, hand-cutting all the carrots, tomatoes, onions, etc. Secondly, the flavors of their food are unlike any I've experienced before. Everything bursts with bright flavors. My favorite is their chicken tortilla soup. It is divine. Complete with handmade tortillas for dipping. And let us not forget the endless buckets of freshly made tortilla chips with spicy salsa. If you ask for it, they even have a creamy dipping sauce that is great. Third, they have some weird fascination with Elvis. I am not quite sure of the backstory, but there is literally a 3 foot tall bust of Elvis with candle offerings in the foyer. It is kitschy, but kinda cool too. I mean who doesn't love the king? Lastly, and maybe most importantly, is their love of dogs. Literally, every square inch of the place is filled with framed pictures of dogs. if you bring in a framed picture of your pooch you get a free appetizer. Trust me, they honor this.
