Came to lunch here a couple days ago. Originally from Texas so we needed a GOOD Tex Mex fix in Florida and Chuy's is pretty good. I think I figured out a loophole for cheap plant-based taco salad: Order the large dinner salad ($5.93) add beans and guacamole. Feel free to crunch some tortilla chips on top with a side of salsa as dressing. Voilà! We all know, the service you receive at a restaurant either makes or breaks the experience. Well, This restaurant was just "aight!" It would have been "great" if the service was better. I had to ask someone to get our waitress at least 4 times... and for stuff most waitresses are naturally attentive to; ie: napkins, more water, OUR CHECK after we sat there, finished for 10 minutes! While on vacation we went to this Chuy's. We had a larger group (9 adults, 2 children), but we had gone earlier in the evening before it got too busy. After a short wait, they brought us to the table they had prepped for us, but it was only 2 tables pushed together and didn't have enough seats. We had to grab extra seats and squeeze in to fit. What should have fit probably 6-8 people, we had to squeeze in to fit 11, there were empty tables right next to us they could have used to give us an extra table to fit better. Further our waitress, Cassandra, seemed very rushed. We had barely sat down and had no time to look at the menu before she was trying to get the kids orders, and she refused to take our drink orders first. She said she takes all drink and food orders together. Every other restaurant I have been to always grabs drink orders first while we browse the menu to pick what we want. Never have I had a waitress refuse to take a drink order like that. We felt very rushed and like we had to make sure we did everything to her standards as customers, instead of being able to enjoy our dinner out. After we received our food, my father in law asked for some spicer salsa/hot sauce, and Cassandra brought some out and stood there to watch him eat it. It made us all feel uncomfortable, like she was challenging him to see if she could get something too hot for him instead of checking to see if what she brought was what he had been wanting. We also had an error in the drink orders, one person ordered the Paloma and my husband ordered the Faux-loma and even specified "the one without alcohol." Cassandra brought 2 Paloma's and when we verified if one was without alcohol she was taken aback, and said "no a Paloma has alcohol." She said if he wanted it without alcohol he should have ordered the "fox-loma" so clearly she doesn't understand the word "faux". I had also ordered a mocktail as I'm pregnant and felt I needed to verify mine was without alcohol because of that mix up, I asked and she seemed offended I asked her to verify mine was alcohol free. Great service, okay food. I can't emphasize enough how great our waiter Dani was. He was funny, kind, and responsive - despite our large and demanding group. Dani gets 5 stars! The rest of the dining experience....just okay. To start, we had a large group and were struggling to find a place that could accommodate us. We called and were told we could make a reservation. We made a reservation for our group. We arrived for our meal and were told we didn't have a reservation. After quite a bit of back and forth, the host found our information but was told that it wasn't a reservation or a call ahead. But was considered a notification that we planned on eating there??? We were all so confused because that isn't what we were told on the phone and the person who took our info was no longer there for the day to confirm. So we had to wait 45 minutes. With a group our size we would have never been able to go somewhere else and have a shorter wait, so we waited. We were thankfully able to grab drinks at the bar and take them to the (empty) patio. We asked if we could just have dinner on the patio but were told we're not allowed to eat out there. Confusing, but okay. After about 45 min we were seated and while we technically had enough seats, they seated us so closely together we couldn't actually move our elbows. I requested another table be added and they added it no problem and we were able to spread out so that our elbows only bumped occasionally. It was nice they added the table, but we really shouldn't have had to ask for it. Then we had Dani who made me smile and laugh. So that was nice. I ordered the chicken fajitas and they were good, but not great. I currently live overseas so I was excited for great Mexican food because it's hard to find here, and I was just a little disappointed in the food. It was certainly good, but it was of the quality I could find at home and was just hoping for a little more. My friend recommended Chuy's after we had finished our escape game next door, saying it was her favorite restaurant. I'd passed it many times with no intention of ever going, but I'm SO glad she suggested it! We were seated immediately, and our food came out very quickly. Everything was delicious! My friend and I split the Elvis Combo. It is a ton of food for an incredibly reasonable price (if I remember correctly, about $13; and we split it!). They start you off with bottomless chips and salsa, which tasted really fresh and packed a nice punch for those who love spicy. I ordered a strawberry swirl margarita, and I could have drunk four of them, they were that good. Super refreshing, especially when all the steaming hot food came out. The decor is definitely eclectic. There is always something fun to look at. The whole restaurant is a conversation piece. You can't miss the huge Elvis Presley bust outside. My friend, who made the suggestion, is a pollotarian but leans veggie, and they had options to accommodate her diet. This place is hard to beat for the price. In a tourist area the food can be hit or miss. This place is the best Tex-Mex close to Disney. They aren't afraid to make something spicy. Don't worry they will warn you if the dish is spicy. I love spicy, so I always order the carne asada burrito with the spicy hatch chili sauce. I can't believe the amount of food for the price. They have a full bar and make very good margarita's. My wife likes the fruity frozen variety. Where am definitely more traditional. I go for the top shelf premium margarita. We really like the decor. There are hubcaps hanging from the ceiling and very colorful artwork all over. This is a fun place to bring the family. The bar has pictures of cats and paper birds hanging from the ceiling. We walked in and, as is my nature, we pulled up chairs at the bar. It's my thing, as it almost always ensures better service. We got a couple margaritas right off the bat and the complementary chips and salsa came out. I asked for the hotter salsa. The bartender said, "this one is quite hot but we have a list of other salsas we offer" She gave us a list and that's when I was taken back. There was a hatch green chili one. That is normally only offered in New Mexico. And then another had a green chili mix. Another New Mexico salsa. I was elated. I noted as we glanced at the menu that's some dishes we were actually New Mexican. I couldn't resist getting the South Western enchiladas. I was afraid it wasn't going to be good. I don't think I've ever had a good enchilada dish in Florida. Until this day. They were so good. I put some of the hatch green chilis on top just to give it that extra kick. We didn't stay too long. I live in the Southwest so I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to Mexican food, but Chuy's is decent and good. It's not really legit Mexican food but it's good enough (if you add some hot sauce). I like to eat here whenever I visit the Orlando area because of their amazing happy hour. The drink specials aren't fantastic (house margaritas for $5.25), but during happy hour (Monday - Friday, 4 pm - 7 pm) you get unlimited access to their Fully Loaded Nacho Car buffet. The buffet includes warm queso, salsa, warm corn tortilla chips, and taco meat -- everything you need to build your own giant plate of nachos! You can easily make a full meal out of the Nacho Car buffet. Note that you do NOT have to sit in the bar section to partake in Happy Hour, and the entire restaurant is kid friendly. This IS Orlando, after all! The atmosphere is festive and fun with a hipster vibe (Elvis artwork and eclectic tile decor with vintage looking 1950s diner style tables). Everybody gets complimentary chips and salsa too. We asked for the hottest salsa they had and even I could eat it without breaking one little bead of sweat. This is East Coast Mexican food no doubt. That means lots of cheese and bland flavors. I've had many different entrees over the years and I still think the more simple dishes are the best, like the quesadillas (they have homemade flour tortillas and you can't really go wrong with those). If you were to move Chuy's to NYC it would be 2-3 stars, for Florida it is a 5 star place. The decor is cute and kitschy. There are paintings that look authentic mexican - men in sombreros, dark skinned women in long beautifully colored dresses, mariachis, etc. The color of the location says Mexico. After sitting in the restaurant for a few minutes I realized it is a chain. Everything was too perfectly laid out. I was hoping the food would not taste like a chain. I was not disappointed - it tasted like a chain restaurant. Mexican Food from NYC is vibrant, it is spicy - yet complex and subtle. This was 1 note. When you sit down, every table gets nachos. The nachos that were brought to the table were thin and did not taste like corn. I had the hard tacos. The meat was salty but no heat, I tasted no mexican cinnamon nor oregano. I brought my cousin with me, who has lived in Florida for the past 20 years. She loved it. Like I said in the beginning this is a 5 star location in Florida. This location is built a little odd in that the main door is on the side of the building. It is as if the building in a house that was building facing away from the road. The decor was all in place and looked good. I found it odd how they place is built and set up like a large house. The dining room in divided up into multiple rooms just like a house as well. The food is good, I was happy with the food. I was surprised at just how spicy their regular default salsa is. It's pretty good stuff! They have 10 awesome sauces that you can choose from for your meals. The steak burrito is a go to meal for me. It is REALLY good. The tortilla is always fresh and the steak is grilled and flavorful. I like to get queso poured on top! This burrito is HUGE so if you don't have a big appetite, they offer 1/2 burritos. You just have to ask. The chuychanga is delicious as well as the salads. This was my second time coming to Chuy's and I really like it. My friend and I decided to walk down to Chuy's after having an interesting experience at another restaurant located on I-drive. Outdoor seating is open so we didn't have to wait long to get a table. Our waitress was really friendly and knew a lot about the menu and drinks, recommending some of her favorite things on the menu. What I really liked about this place in addition to the food was the atmosphere. It is hard to describe it in words but it is really modern and funky. To start I ordered the beef Panchos as an appetizer. It is basically nachos, cheese, pico de gallo, jalepeno , guacamole and sour cream. It was so much food that I didn't even need to order an entree. My friend had the chicken quesadilla and that also was a lot of food. Everything we ordered was amazing, you just have to keep in mind that the portions are large and most of the appetizers are to share. The service was great; our waitress was on top of everything. She brought us extra chips and salsa while we were waiting for our meals and also made sure our glasses were always full. The only negative thing about the restaurant is the location. Our waitress was obviously quite busy, so service was a bit slow, but she did her best and kept the chips coming while waiting for our food to come. Upon walking in, we were greeted by kind staff who took our info and told us it would be about 15-20 min wait. The decor in here was colorful, unique and festive. I noticed the bar area was decorated with antiques, reclaimed wood and photos of dogs -- I believe patrons' dogs! We also noticed a series of hilarious tshirts for sale on the wall. They were plays on all sorts of popular pop-culture references -- Pokemon, Super Mario Bros and much more. The marketer in me wondered how they get away with selling those shirts from a copyright perspective but... let's not get into that here. ;) The food was pretty delicious. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and the beans and rice were perfect. They definitely give good portions. The waitress was really attentive and helpful. There was a balloon maker there and while I think the balloons were a good add on for kids, he also did sang upon request and I found it a bit disruptive. Another thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the utensils in paper packaging. I thought it was a bit wasteful and there were religious quotes on it? Just found it a bit odd. The first thing I wanted when I landed from Germany was mexican food. I quickly looked up Yelp reviews and found this one to have the best reviews and they were right! This place was delicious! The only drawback was that they did not have giant bowl margaritas, only regular ones. They were able to seat 8 of us comfortably on the patio which had very attentive service. The staff was very friendly and helpful. She was always there for us which is something I'm not used to when I sit on patios. Usually they forget you but our service was perfect. The food was prepared quickly and the plates were huge! My husband barely finished his fajitas and he really enjoyed them. The top shelf margaritas were delicious so we had two. Prices weren't too bad. An average cost of a meal was around $12 for a lot of food. The beans were good, rice was fresh and the tacos were crispy. My chicken taco had huge chunks of meat so I was very full after eating just 1 with some beans/rice. They have thee best chips and salsa! As we waited for our food, that's what we nibbled on but the waitress kept bringing more and more chips. It was so delicious!
