My S.O and I decided to go to Chuy's in observance for National Margarita Day. Upon arriving we were greeted by 2 individuals in the front. We opted to eat at the bar and enjoy Happy Hour (which is daily from 4pm to 7pm). I wasn't too hungry, shamefully I just wanted to drink M-A-R-G-A-R-I-T-A-S (don't judge me). And Chuy's offers $5 margaritas and just for NMD they were offering tequila shots for a $1 WHOOP WHOOP!! Bring on the tequila!! I had their house margarita with an extra shot and it was really good. It was by far one of the best margaritas I have had and it was a pretty decent size for $5. Also during happy hour, you get free chips and salsa. There is also a "car" bar that has queso, ground beef and extra chips all complimentary. I had 2 plates of chips and queso. The salsa was a bit spicy for me and I requested some ranchero sauce instead. But I ended up eating the salsa and ranchero sauce O.O I was really full, but I noticed a couple next to us drinking a margarita that looked pretty tasty. We asked our server what it was and she said it was a Mango margarita. Mango?!....Ummm well of course we ordered one to share because there was no way I was going to finish one by myself. I giving this place a low score because of the service. The food was decent. After picking up my cousins from MCO we decided to grab lunch on our way home. We were limited in choices because both of my cousins are vegetarians. We decided on Mexican, since that's usually a safe choice. We found Chuy's through word of mouth and waited about 5 minutes to be seated. We started off with chips, salsa, and queso. After eyeing the menu and speaking with the waitress we decided to order the Classic Tex-Mex, which is described as "cheese and onions with Tex-Mex sauce." Our waitress assured us it was vegetarian and we even told her twice that we did not want any meat on our plate. Ten minutes later our meals comes out. Immediately I notice the sauce has chucks of meat in it. I asked the waitress "Is this meat?" She looks at me dumbfounded and says "I don't know, you can scrape it off." We asked her to send it back and waited for the same dish, this time with no meat. Once that arrived we finally could eat. There was no apology from the waitress and it felt like she ignored us the remaining time of the meal. I had to ask another server who walked by for a refill for my water. This was our first trip to Chuy's and we really didn't know what to expect beyond the Yelp reviews. We were uber impressed with the service and care from the waitstaff. The funky and bizarre interiors bring the restaurant to life and help to shape the overall experience perfectly. The personality of the restaurant is exemplified through the cheerful servers and managers, and we so enjoyed our first dining experience at Chuy's. Here's what we tasted during the Green Chile Festival, don't miss out on these hot dishes! Veggie Fajitas: Take every notion you have about vegetables and throw them away because this platter was scrumptious. Filled with zucchini, yellow squash, red bell, Anaheim and Serrano peppers, onions and crimini mushrooms - after one bite you'll totally forget about meat. The dish is also served with handmade flour tortillas and a myriad of toppings. We opted to add a marinated portobello mushroom and grilled baby shrimp for some extra goodness. Don't let the veggies scare you away, this dish was the perfect way to experience the Green Chile Festival. VIP Combo: Prepare yourself for a Bacon Wrapped Pork Relleno topped with Salsa Brava all drizzled with spicy crema and one Fat Daddy Enchilada with Green Chile Rosado Sauce and fresh roasted green chiles. Bang Bang Burrito: A flour tortilla stuffed with sliced fajita beef, grilled peppers and onions and jack cheese, topped with spicy Salsa Frita and caramelized veggies. If you're adverse to spiciness, Chuy's can always take the spice down a bit if you prefer. As you can see, this plate was one giant mix of cheesy, spicy goodness. Margaritas: Try the skinny margarita if you're looking for something "lighter." It's made without a mix and includes fresh lime juice. Skinny margs are hard to craft and Chuy's serves up a pretty tasty one. For something more indulgent try their frozen Watermelon Margarita - it's like sipping a Slurpee.....with tequila. This place is pretty typical Tex-mex, but makes up because of its ability to be more authentic and local. The food is not like most chains that takes frozen or precooked food and warms it up and serves it to you; but uses fresh ingredients and in-house made chips, shells/tortillas and more to make it their own. The sauces and salsas have great flavor as well. Chuy's is pretty family focused, so I probably wouldn't go here for a quiet date. This worked well for us as the restaurant area requires everyone to be there before being seated and the bar is open seating with full menu service. They have free nacho bar Mon-Fri from 4-7 our server also brought us fresh chips to the table with salsa as well. Our party was trickling in and our server handled it in stride helping us with additional seating and taking drink and food orders right away for new comers. The drinks were good and everyone was loving the food. Plates are served hot and fresh and plentiful. One person ordered a tres leches desert~ it was so good and huge! The bar area has a server-yourself nacho bar, which is quite cool, free appetizers with your drinks. Though I did have a bad experience at bar. When I ordered a drink I asked for a specific vodka and she tried to up-sell (though I'm not sure it was a better vodka) by telling me "Are you sure you don't want xxx, it's better than the one you asked for". I don't know about you guys, but if I ask for something, I want that something. She was quite rude about it too. As far as food good, it was excellent. Great flavors, some of the best Tex-Mex I've ever had. The margaritas were great; a perfect blend of sweet and sour, bravo to the bartender. The service was super, from he hostess's to our sever Danni. She could not have done anything better, Dani was exceptionally friendly and very accommodating. Really good Mexican food with a fun kitchy decor. We both had fajitas with a hard taco add on, the ingredients were fresh and all the shells tasted as though they were from scratch. The service was friendly and adequate, but not very fast. We were probably there for about 5 minutes before someone took our drink order. The waitress brought us lots of delicious chips and salsa. I wish I had gotten my drink first because the salsa was super flavorful and a little spicy for some of us. I would have like to have my drink a little sooner. Our orders came out perfectly and everyone enjoyed their food. I am a big fan of the steak fajitas. I also recommend the queso dip. Super yummy! Definitely a fun, fun atmosphere. The fresh salsa they give you at the start was absolutely amazing - had a bit of a kick to it (and we like / know spicy food), and was incredibly fresh. Tasted like it was just made. The chips were a little thinner than I'm used to, but still pretty good. I had the Chicken Flautas and my husband had the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom. His dish was far better than mine. The Chicken Flautas barely had any red sauce on them, were pretty dry (definitely over-fried), and came with only a tablespoon of guac (although it was very good guac). I found myself eating his food more than my own - the sauce on the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom was incredible. The dish was soft, warm and delicious. I ordered chicken enchiladas with a taco and guacamole on the side. My husband and daughter ordered Chicka Chicka boom boom enchiladas and my other daughter ordered chicken salad. The real star of the night were the chips, salsa, and that white jalapeno sauce! The salsa is spicy, just the way we like it, and the white sauce is addictive. I had the bang bang burrito (seasonal offering). There was a lot of flavor, however only a very limited portion of meat in it (very bread and heavy on the sauce). I've been to the Chuys in Austin and had lowered expectations for this restaurant as it is difficult in a franchise environment due to the need to create consistencies through standardized recipes, pre-packaging, portion control, etc. I would not recommend this restaurant for the gluten-free guest as you have to alter the dishes so much that the dishes become bland. Holy Guacamole, the portion sizes at this place screams 'Murica! Every dish was as large as my face and probably can feed a family of four. I ordered the largest burrito I have ever seen - so large you need to use a fork and knife for only $9! The burrito was stuffed with grilled steak and way too much sauce was used. The burrito is as big as your face, but not exactly delicious. They make a killer margarita with plenty more cocktail options. Everyone at the table loved it. The interior design transports you back into the retro-age with portraits on the walls, neon signage and they even sell T-shirts for $14 at the front. Decent Tex-Mex food but pretty bad service. It started with the hostess she wasn't too friendly. She offered our party of three to seat ourselves at the bar area. There were multiple open booths and tables. She basically threw the menus onto the table before we sat down. Oookay so I thought maybe she had a bad day cause her attitude sucks and was hoping we would have better service by our server. I ordered the Chika Chika boom boom which the server said was a popular. It was good but I wished had more sauce, yes I like a lot of sauce. My bf got the steak and chicken fajitas which I didn't care for as I felt it was lacking in flavor. My friend chose the chicken flautas-these were really good, especially with the guac and sour cream or dipped in jalepeno ranch dressing. I would recommend this. Now back to the service, our server wasn't too attentive. He brought out my side salad but no dressing, he forgot my bf's rice and the guacamole and sour cream which comes with the flautas. Also, forgot silverware. On top of that my friend waited and waited for his Coke to be refilled multiple times and our water too. We practically had to wave him down and mention the things we didn't get when he brought out the food. My friend in AR raves about the fajitas at his location so I thought I'd give this place a shot while vacationing in Orlando. I was very disappointed because it appears that they cater to mostly tourists and therefore don't care about the quality of food here. The sangria is good, but it's pretty expensive at $6 for a wine glass filled with ice. The queso dip was outstanding. The big disappointment was the fajitas, which is the gold standard for any Tex-Mex restaurant worth its salt. The seasoning/marinade was excellent, so it's a shame that their kitchen staff killed the steak. Instead of medium-rare beef I got well-done and dried-out. Unacceptable.
