One of our favorite Mexican restaurants of all time! This is a nice family run business, so we were so worried about them during Covid. Luckily, their dedicated followers helped them. I've tried many of their dishes, but the Chile Verde has become my all time favorite. It just tastes the best. I grew up in El Paso, TX , right on the border. I've been eating superior Mexican food my whole life. I was worried when I moved so far away that the great Mexican food that I knew and loved, would not be available in N. California. I had no reason to worry. We live in San Jose and still drive to Gilroy for Mexican food. The people are friendly, the service is attentive and the food is warm and comforting. I have dined here on five different occasions twice for breakfast, and three for dinner. Each visit has been a different experience. There is no consistency, with their service or food quality. I have never had to wait, over five minutes to be seated. I don't know if that is truly a good thing or not. The "home made" corn tortillas, I use the term loosely. They're nothing more than steamed, store bought tortillas. Sometimes the food comes out steaming hot, or it is luke warm. They do accommodate large parties. So first off this is considered Tex-Mex food not authentic Mexican. Pretty clean place. Restrooms were clean. Customer service was ok. The chips and salsa were delicious salsa was different. I ordered the steak a la mexicana it was delicious, however the beans didn't taste fresh. My husband had the fajita combo skillet it had way too much bell pepper and onion but the meat was good. I ordered the Chile relleno a la cart and I wish I hadn't it was not good at all. I even got a bit nauseas from the taste. The plates themselves I must say are large portioned, however I must say I feel it was overpriced.The soda machine was down so we missed out on the free refills. Also they seemed short staffed we had to wait quiet a bit just to leave cause the manger was waiting tables so she couldn't get out tab. Overall I would have to say I won't be back. read more

my husband and i were driving back to san ramon after visiting big sur. we decided to try garlic city cafe but since it was the fourth of july, it was closed. we walked across the street and were able to sit down for lunch. friendly waitress, delicious salsa(garlic!!) and chips. we had chili relleno and chicken enchiladas. both good. my husband left his (favorite) sweater in the restaurant. we returned home to st louis and he called to see if they could send it back. anna, the manager, would not take any money but has shipped it back to us. cannot thank you all enough. ps check's in the mail read more

Came here tonight to try the place out because I've heard great things about it--and it's got part of my name in it I ordered the chicken flautas, which is my usual at most Mexican restaurants, which came with refried beans, rice, shredded lettuce with a dollop of sour cream and guacamole. Their house made chips and salsa are good. Service was semi lacking even though we were one of maybe 3 tables in there. I'd come back, but honestly don't see the diff between here and the flautas at Victoria's on 1st. Maybe next time I'll try something different. Rice was good with the combo and their beans are slightly better than Victoria's but parking can be a bit of a pain sometimes depending on when you go. If only i could find a great mexican restaurant to eat food that is delicious yet inexpensive. Oh me oh my ive found a new love! Celito lindo. If you are looking for authentication look no further. First off the salsa is very yummy and always made fresh. If you enjoy lime and onion like me then youll be very satisfied with the salsa. Second i ordered burgers for my kids and they were a good size. Honestly my son and daughter could have shared a plate. It comes with fries and a drink too. Second i ordered chicken enchiladas and a coke. The enchiladas were cheesy and had lots of guacamole on top too. Of course my husband loved the beans since it came with rice and beans. They were very authentic tasting. Im soo glad i got a coke it was just like the ones you taste from a bottle. Yum! My husband couldnt help but have the flutas. Sometimes you just must have an authentic ethnic meal! Craving some good Mexican food and found lots of choices in Gilroy, so I decided to try Cielito Lindo (beautiful heaven). This family owned restaurant was exactly what I wanted: great salsa & chips (not too spicy), generous portions and friendly service. I ordered a combo plate ($11.95) which included rice & beans, a tasty rather large chicken tostada (my fav) & a chicken enchilada Suiza that came with a red sauce. If you want green sauce, you need to ask when ordering. Next time! I also ordered a Chile relleno a la carte bc I was a hungry girl!! JK, I wanted to try and the price was right! ($4.95) Yes, I doggie bagged most of the meal but all of it was delicious! My friend ordered chile verde that came w/ rice & beans ($15.95)-tender pieces of bite sized pork smothered in a mild verde sauce. Cielito Lindo isn't a fancy place, but it is where you can experience authentic, flavorful Mexican fare for a great price! Great food! Steak a la Mexicano (probably misspelt) does not disappoint like others have stated. Wife got the tacos. They have fresh fried shells and are huge. Two salsas provided with fresh chips. This was my first time trying Cielito Lindo but my fiancée and mother grew up in Gilroy and used to go all the time. She's in town from Arizona and we are in town from Sunnyvale. The 5 stars is mainly for amazing customer service. When we told them we are vegetarians they were super honest and mentioned what is fried in what to make sure we don't eat anything made with meat or fried in lard. Later on when we had other questions about drinks they were again very patient and friendly with us and even offered us samples of the horchata. I had the cheese quesadilla and it was delicious.
