My husband and I love this restaurant. The food is great. Unlike other restaurants nearby we have never had any issues with our reservations. Even somewhat last minute reservations for a large group of our family and friends. The staff is great. Had a great lunch with a client after a real estate closing in the area. The atmosphere was cozy and pleasant. We ordered the fried calamari and the tomato/mozzarella appetizer. Both were extraordinarily fresh with the mozzarella cheese in particular was amazing. I had the tilapia francese which was a bit risky but since it was Friday, I wanted to order a fish dish. It was surprisingly great! Tilapia can be a hard dish to pull off but the chef did a great job. The sauce was amazing and the fish was fresh. We shared a bottle of the house chianti and although a bit light, paired well with our meal. Definitely recommending the restaurant for a quite weekday lunch. read more

I don't know if they are just having a bad day but I am furious! I had ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad for pick up which was said to be ready in 5 minutes when it took 15 minutes. I work near bye so I carried my bag back to work, when I got there I noticed there was NO CAP on my dressing it went all over the place in the bag and on myself. I then take a bite and the chicken is chewy and not edible at all (McDonald's chicken is better). I couldn't eat my food I was so hungry I just ate the lettuce. I paid 10$ to eat lettuce !!!!!! Hidden gem on Staten Island. I came here with my fiance for his birthday. The atmosphere was so lovely. I adored the Italian music playing. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. They had a huge selection of food. Although they have a full bar they do not have a drink menu and have a small wine menu (which is not a big deal). We ordered the antipasto caldo for an appetizer. Great amount of food for two people and all parts were very good. For dinner we order the pollo scarpariello and the vitello florio. The food was amazing! Tender meat and very flavorful. For dessert, we had tiramisu. Moist and delicious. We could not recommend this place enough. Definitely coming back here. read more

I am extremely disgusted by this place. The manager is not understanding, does not know how to speak to his customers and is nasty. It's Mother's Day. I made reservations for a party of 5 over a week prior to Mother's Day for 6pm. I arrived at 6:05pm and was told that the wait would be no more than 20 minutes. We waited patiently and it took over an hour to sit down at a table. There was a huge crowd also waiting to be seated and more than half the crowd left before even being seated. We finally got a table at 7pm. We spoke to the manager and told him about our reservation being at 6pm and we weren't seated until an hour later. The owner was rude saying "it's Mother's Day, there is nothing he can do." No sir, this is over booking and poor management on his part. He then proceeded to raise his voice becoming very aggressive when all we were doing was expressing our concern in a respectful manner. This owner is aggressive, has poor management skills and does not know how to treat his customers. I use to love this restaurant but after such an ugly encounter with this manager, my family and I are never coming back here. I would give 0 stars if I could! I have NEVER been kicked out of a restaurant and have NEVER had my intelligence insulted the way it was Thursday night! My mother heard great things about this restaurant, so we decided to check it out. When we got there, there was 1 table of 4, 2 gentlemen at the bar and the rest of the restaurant EMPTY! When we asked for a table for 2, one of the workers IMMEDIATELY said he was sorry, but all the tables were reserved and there was no room upstairs. Seriously? An entire restaurant COMPLETELY EMPTY except for ONE table and TWO bar stools and you can't even bother to seat to ladies?! We went instead to Trattoria Romana, where we were welcomed with open arms and treated very well with wonderful staff and wonderful food! We will NOT be returning AND we WILL share our horrible experience with everyone! read more

I met friends for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the lunch specials which offered a large variety of choices. I ordered fish in a lemon butter sauce and wow, it was NOT overcooked, a sign of a quality restaurant. Wait service was polite and attentive, but not obtrusive. I had my son's christening party there this past Sunday. I was very happy with the food and service. I did feel that everything was rushed a little bit. I am unhappy with one thing... I had 14 children at the party. Frank the owner had showed me the children's menu when I booked the party. The children's menu that was suppose to be offered to the children. Frank the owner took the food order and at two tables did not offer the children from their menu but offered them the adult menu. I am a bit disappointed about this because at the end of the party when we were paying the bill frank the owner made it sound to me as if the parents of these children ordered adult meals. Mind you these children were no older than 7 years old. Frank the owner charged me for two extra adult meals for these children and said he had to add the additional cost for beer, wine and soda. Kids don't drink alcohol!!! When one of my guest told me he offered the children adult meals but she knew about the kids menu she ordered from there. I find this to be very rude and seems as if they don't want returning customers. I didn't know that I had to remind frank that the children order from the kids menu!! Because of this I feel frank is a dishonest owner for doing that to me and because of this situation I do not recommend this place for a small or large party. I wonder if he has done this to anyone else. So sad because like I said in the beginning I was so happy until this was brought to my attention. read more

Is the food good? Yes. So why 1 star? I would never want to give the d-bag of an owner/manager a single dollar that I've earned. Is it annoying for him that a daycare opened across the street from his business? Yes, probably, but for him to block my car in once and then threaten to flatten my tires on another occasion in from of my 5 year old and 2 year old because I park in front of his restaurant is unacceptable. He had never tried to approach me on a rational basis, he just pulls out his big guns and temper. I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy and don't want to park a block away for the 90 seconds it takes me to pick up my older boy. If that makes me worthy of degrading and yelling at, than I hope that he is not married or a parent. I have no respect for that uncompassionate looser. There are plenty of other good Italian restaurants that I would rather and frequently give my income to. I'll never eat there again. read more

The lunch I had here was lovely. The service was excellent, my dirty martini was spot on. The food was good but a bit under-seasoned. My veal was incredible but my boyfriends shrimp could have used some more herb and spices. It was an overall nice outing and I recommend this place for a nice date night. read more

Meal started out great, I have been there several times with my family and the staff has always been pleasant. I was there recently with some clients and my wife. We were looking for a steak this evening and I was assured that they had what we wanted. All was fine until the steaks came. I could tell the cuts were not up to standard and I brought it to the waiters attention. To my dismay, the owner approached and disagreed with my assessment of the steaks. I have been in the business for over 20 years and the answer I received from him was gut wrenching and he said exactly this..."If you can cook a steak better, go into my kitchen and cook it yourself". We were all blown away and quite embarrassed of such a cowardly response from the owner. What a shame that we will never go there again...... read more

Great service, delicious food. Chicken Martini is so delicious I cant take it. So is their bolognese sauce. Everything really yummy!!!

Where do I start , we planned my sisters bridal shower at cielo . The waiter told us we can get there at 1030 to start setting up. Low and behold 10:30 came and went they let us in at 11:00 and the party started at 12!!! When they let us in we were told prior that we had a downstairs area and again low and behold WE DIDNT ! they just told us we are upstairs now with no warning ! New layout different tables everything was just off , but we made it work without complaints ! At 3:30 the manager walks in as we are packing up and SO NASTY says " you girls gotta go , lets go !" I was mortified at how he spoke with customers that just paid a lot of money for 3 hours !!! The manager then repeats to tell me he has a contract that says we leave at 3:30 ! Which he never showed me , Again , MORTIFIED ! While in a such a rush to get us out we forgot a lot of stuff that I'm sure we will never see again , on top of that the food was horrible , a potato a carrot and a piece of meat ! Don't waste your time or money ! There's so many other places that will treat their customers much better !! I wish there was a thumbs down button . I Went To Cielo Restaurant On Staten Island, N.Y. Tonite with two Friends Tonight. We Sat Upstairs on the Second Floor with a great View.... I Had the Ceasar Salad and For The Entree, The Vitello Marsala (Veal Scalopinni Sauteed with Mushrooms in A Marsala Wine Sauce) Which Were Excellently Cooked & Seasoned. My Friends also Had The Caesar Salad and House Salad and For The Entrees they had The Gamberoni Francese (Sauteed Jumbo Shrimp Sauteed in a White Wine Lemon Sauce) & The Penne All" Olio (Penne Pasta with Spinach in a Garlic & Olive Oil Sauce), Which were Both Excellent.. We ALL Shared a Pitcher Of Red Wine Sangria, which was One of The Best Sangrias I Ever Had... Over All The Service and Atmosphere and The Quality of Food was Exceptional and Surpassed My Expectations. I Definitely Will Be Traveling To Staten Island from Brooklyn to Cielo's Restaurant Again... Went here about two weeks ago but never made it in. Another reviewer wrote about the same experience with the same outcomes! I was with my boyfriend but upon entering the NEARLY EMPTY restaurant we were told sorry, no tables. So uncomfortable and awkward. The server then spoke in another language to the gentleman behind the bar and weakly suggested "ummm if you want maybe you could try to maybe wait for a table, but ya know people they talk so much so their meals take longer sooo...." Essentially suggesting and promoting that we leave the restaurant. I cannot fathom why we were not seated- we were two people absolutely dressed appropriately so I am clueless.... It certainly wasn't because they were busy, that much was CLEAR. We drove down hylan blvd and ended up trying trattoria Romano which was a much better choice as they were friendly and seated us immediately with great service. I cannot say or compare their food to anyone else as I NEVER had the opportunity to be seated. I have never been rejected from a restaurant before. What an uncomfortable experience. Went to holiday party there with a few friends in December. Food was ok, appetizers and pasta were great but the entrees were bland and boring. It was a pre fixed menu with beer and wine included. Original price was acceptable. The original resv was for 24 people but only 19 showed up. We were charged for the missing people but were not told that was the case until the bill came. I understand if they had to charge but it would have been fair if they offered us the additional entrees or maybe offer a round of after dinner dinks. But what really got me on never returning to this place is the 20% gratuity they tacked on in addition to the 5 extra plates. I have had many parties in other reputable SI restaurants and the gratuity is usually 18%. REALLY..just another example of being taking advantage during the holiday season. That left such a bad taste in my mouth. SO all in all totally not worth the $80 per person we wound up paying and we all left disappointed in the owner...shame on him!!!! read more
