Moroccan Hummus, add coconut milk, made vegan

One of the best Indian meals I've ever had, and I cook Indian food all the time + eat at Indian restaurants frequently. I got the Moroccan hummus (basically chana masala), level 6 spice, made vegan, add coconut milk. So good! And the person I was dining with loved his butter shrimp.

A first time visit and unexpected a very pleasant surprise. The parking was busy in the shopping center mid-week after 6pm. A nearby walk towards the aromatic smell, Wow, impressive inside did not expect from the outside! I was promptly greeted by a young man at the counter. I did not really look at the menu as I was craving lamb biryani...only request without egg. Fortunately, they have 2 types. The man mentioned it would be medium spice level, okay and also ordered a mango lassi sans ice. While waiting for food, I observed both a decent of patrons who dine-in and take out. Very impressive the young man stating to "Mr ...," after he paid, that he may wait in car and will bring right out when order is ready. Excellent customer service, not sure if the owner, relative or employee! The ambiance was lovely and even semi-private to enjoy and I will definitely recommend and return. I was surprised that some patrons left food uneaten, odd not to pack up. It looked good but not sure if good appearance but not taste so I was a little concerned. Finally, my order arrived and the appearance was a little unusual as I did not expect plain rice on top. The dish had some kick in the spice level plus s extra salt ... glad for the raita. I knew I would have leftovers to modify the excess salt...I went back to the counter to get the Gluten Free chocolate cake and a side of buttered potatoes both to go with container to pack up leftovers. The guy asked me how I liked the spice level and I do believe I said "call the fire department " --Good spice level cleared my sinuses and warmed my body! All good, a compliment! Please, use less salt it was too much and quite higher than any restaurant in the area. I would enjoy another visit-- this one 4 stars! The order for take out buttered potatoes went to another table. The owner apologized and they came out. There should be a better way when a mistake like this happens to rectify, especially for a first time visit. I will need to request less salt, unless that is from the clarified butter not sure but the tip of my tongue felt it before the heat from the aromatic spices. A refreshing sorbet, kulfi, or gelato to cleanse the palate would be ideal! I would like to try a tea or coffee at another visit or lunch. Overall rating breakdown: 4 stars Greeted and welcomed promptly = 5 stars Ambiance = 5 stars Quality & Portion = 4 stars Price = 3.5 stars , gluten free cake $12 expensive just okay Customer service and experience = 4 stars - improve when error occurs

A cozy Indian cafe with beautiful setting , attentive staff and awesome food. We went around 6:30 PM on a weekday and got seated immediately. We ordered couple of entrees - vegetable biryani, egg curry, paneer makhni and paneer Achari and all of them especially egg curry were awesome. Medium spice level was as expected and our 6 year could eat it. I liked how the entrees are accompanied by rice , nan , chutney and chickpea salad making it a whole meal in itself.

ordered takeout, but the ambiance inside seems really nice! i also saw some nice looking desserts in the case but refrained from picking anything up this time. maybe next time though! we ordered veg samosas, moroccan hummus, and dum aloo. both the entrees came with roghani naan and rice. usually indian restaurants don't give free naan, so i thought that was really nice! the portions are also huge (which is good because each entree is on the pricier side). we were also offered free cilantro chutney with the samosas. the samosas were excellent - obviously not as flaky since i picked up my order like half an hour after it was ready but that's my own fault. the chutney was really nice and spicy. i enjoyed both entrees too, but i have to take a star off because neither of them is anything like their name. the moroccan hummus clearly engenders some confusion because when i ordered it over the phone, the guy on the other end described the dish to me in detail and asked if that was ok. it was ok because i knew what i was ordering, but why not just call it chana masala? there's no other chana masala on the menu so i don't know what the purpose is of calling it something different. the dum aloo is also not real dum aloo. dum aloo is supposed to be whole baby potatoes in a spicy gravy. the "hummus" was spicier than the aloo and the potatoes were not whole baby potatoes and also were not completely cooked to satisfaction - this dish was more like aloo matar makhani. everything was delicious, just mis-advertised, and really for seemingly no reason. i would still go back though!

Delicious food and amazing service. The owner(?) came out to ask our son how he liked his dish. He was honest and said it was a little spicy and he brought him a more mild dish - which he definitely didn't need to do! However, it ensured my son had a delicious time. Will be back!

This was genuinely one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Our first time going in there, and my personal first experience with Indian cuisine and I was left amazed. My fiancé got the Tikka Masala and I got the chicken Korma. I was most definitely not used to the spices but the flavor was incredible and "Pops", the owner, was one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met. Great service, great food, beautiful atmosphere. I can't say anything negative.

I ordered the karahi paneer, which they warned me would be spicy. I had a mango lassi to go with it, and the manager/owner came out to check on us and gave me a yogurt to help it go down, which was really kind of him. That karahi paneer is not something to be trifled with; it's got a slow burn that builds with each bite. The flavors were wonderful, although the green sauce was only okay. I liked the naan with my paneer. The chickpea salad was quite refreshing. The decor was interesting--major quotes by a number of famous people. But overall, the service made up for the slightly more expensive price!

A great place for fast casual dining! Parking is easy as it's a shared lot with other businesses. The menu is pretty extensive so there is something for everyone and various dietary needs. It didn't take long to order. I ended up choosing the pan seared catfish. I would estimate the food takes about 15-20 minutes. When the food arrived, I was surprised at the large portions. My entree cost $22 so this was a good deal to me. I am not a fan of spice at all. I can typically handle things that are mild like a 3 out of 10. This dish was definitely at least a 6. The rub on the fish was spicy and the rice was spicy as well. I ended up using a yogurt sauce to balance the heat. Despite the heat, the food was excellent. It was fresh, flavorful, and filling. This place is worth checking out if you're in the mood for Indian food!

1/23 Update After my previous review we gave the restaurant a few months and decided to try again. We ordered Chicken Biryani, Moroccan Hummus, and Chicken Tikka masala with Mango Lassi. The chicken biryani was delightful and hands down our favorite dish that we ordered. It was tasty and had good balance with appropriate spices. The Moroccan hummus was just average and has slightly more oil than we would have liked. The chicken tikka masala was made how it usually is and had good flavor. The spice level was perfect for the dishes (we ordered mild and it still had plenty of spice! ) Good job!

I was visiting the area for work, and I was looking for a highly rated location to grab good Indian food. I stumbled upon Cilantro Café in my search. Might I say, I am glad that I came here for dinner. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a casual café, one where you walk up to the counter to place your order. Once your order is placed, you're given a number that you then bring to your table, as your food will be brought to you. The first thing that I noticed about my entrée is how fresh everything tasted. In the past at other Indian establishments, I've experienced super oily dishes, but that was not the case here. On top of the already delicious food, the manager came to check on how I was doing. That personal touch really added to the overall experience. I could not say better things about the spot. If you're looking for fast, easy, and quality Indian food, than this is THE place to go!

I'm pretty new to the world of Indian cuisine, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I love everything I've had at Cilantro. There is definitely no lack of flavor in their dishes! I also love that it's so gluten free friendly. And the gentleman who works the counter at lunch is very friendly. My only minor gripe is that it's a little slow at lunch, but it's made to order, so it doesn't bother me too much. Just be prepared that your lunch hour might go a touch long. My favorite part about going is the aroma as soon as you walk in the door. Amazing! read more

Cilantro is consistently good. Not great but good. And very clean which is HUGE for a cary-based Indian place. Most Indian restaurants are not known for their high health scores in Cary. Cilantro is an exception. I also like that it is family owned and run. They are very friendly. My one big criticism. ..and this cost them a star.. Is they do not have real Naan bread. They serve premade pita bread instread. They keep saying they will get a tandor oven but over the past year plus they never have. read more

Our new favorite place in North Carolina. Of all the new restaurants to discover in Wake County since our move here this past summer, Cilantro is the one restaurant that we keep going back to. I have been going here ever since they operated out of the gas station. The food is great and the modern style of paying at the register to receive a number is much more efficient than the typical waiter method. Generous portion sizes with fair prices. read more

We had stopped going to any North Indian restaurants because anything u order would taste the same! But, not Cilantro. We are glad we gave it a try last night. awesome food with nice ambiance. Their Spicy Potatoes were just perfect! highly recommend this place to anyone who likes good Indian food. read more

Great food and service. Cafe style, place your order, pay, sit down & eat. We had the tandoori chicken wings, butter chicken, the okra dish (can never remember the name) but my favorite was the coconut fish soup. Wonderful flavors and the ambiance is cool too. We're happy to have found another great choice for some excellent Indian food. read more

Our first trip for lunch there. Three of us went and everything was very good. Portions are quite large yet the price is fair. Three of us was $41 but we ordered a lot of food because we were not sure of the portions. I would recommend if you like Indian food. Seems family owned. read more

New favorite Indian restaurant! Huge menu selection, authentic and traditional flavors, and super friendly staff. We ordered the chicken tandoori (mildly spicy) and the karahi lamb (spicy). I went here a couple months ago and really enjoyed their food. It was very flavorful and had the right amount of spice (that means very spicy). The only issue I had, was I thought that this place was a little pricey for what you get and also that you are not served. Not that I am super lazy, I just don't want to pay premium prices for a "fast-food" feel. Not sure if I would be back, just because I think there are better places in the area for a better price. read more

I've been coming to Cilantro ever since they ran a take-out business from a gas station on TenTen Rd. I've been to most of the Indian restaurants in the area, and in my opinion, Cilantro is the best. The food is incredible, the service is great, and the price is fair. You won't leave hungry - but you will be back! Try one of the homemade desserts if you're looking to treat yourself...yum! read more

OMG this is the best Indian I have tasted. I have had the Tikka and Butter chicken and both were delicious. Spicy and creamy and yummy. I love the Morrocan hummus too. Do not miss it. I had the lamb biryani with a side of naan. My total came to $16. I was a bit skeptical of the price at first, but once I seen the serving size, I felt much better. That price also includes a drink, which is nice. The best part was the yogurt sauce, which is green and deliciously flavored like cilantro. Everything was great. The only gripe I would have is that the 'If you're in a hurry' menu is not all that fast. We still had to wait a bit longer than I would have liked to get our food. Will definitely be back. read more

Food was very good. Good flavor and lovely side dishes. Be warned, the service is ridiculously slow. We waited over 30 minutes for our meal at lunch. The place didnt seem that busy. The owner was very appoligetic, but this is a really long wait for a meal that said on the board was ready in the kitchen. I would advise the owners to instruct the server to use a proper tray and deliver more than one meal to a table at time. The food was really great so getting faster service would really improve this establishment. Note: there is no beer, atypical for Indian places. read more

Very happy with Cilantro Indian Cafe. Ordered for delivery thru Doordash. The food was excellent. Portion sizes were a little smaller than I'd like, but not unreasonable. We ordered butter chicken, daal and a cauliflower/potato/pea side. Butter chicken was mild and yummy. The other two were a tad spicy for me (I'm not a spicy food person) but not overwhelming at all - my husband was very happy with the level of spice. Very tasty. Also ordered vegetable samosa. Excellent. And to the credit of Doordash, the food arrived quickly, was still warm and exactly as expected. We will be ordering again for sure!!!! read more

We've been a customer for years now and this is one of the best Indian restaurants we have been to in the South, the Northeast and indeed better than many in the UK. The food is certainly excellent and we can't fault anything that we've ever had there. Kids love the food, although we have the Chicken Tikka Masala "very very mild" for them. We usually go way beyond what we eat in one go and the left overs go straight in the fridge and are savored over the next couple of days ;) Great restaurant and the service is very very friendly. Will certainly be back. read more

Great food, friendly staff clean and open dining room. You better know Indian food before you go in. You order from a counter from a text only menu. No pictures no descriptions, just a menu item and a cost. Prepare to open your wallet a little more than most lunch restaurants in the area. Lunch with tip cost me $20 but they call your drink complementary.. After ordering you are give a number and take a seat. Did cine quickly in/on great China plateware food portions are large and extremely well prepared in its most authentic fashion. On a subsequent visit and order I asked if the biraini could be a little less (spicy) the nice employee and what seemed like the owner said yes. When the order arrived it was uncomfortably spicy. When he checked on our table he asked how it was. I said it was much hotter than my last visit to which he said he would have then redo the order. A short time later he apologized and said the barani is already prepared, meaning it couldn't be less spicy. He quickly offered any other entree and suggest the butter chicken. Within just few min a complete butter chicken entree showed up. In short they will do anything they can to ensure a pleasurable experience for their patrons. Huge fan read more

I get the butter chicken or Tikka Masala. It is served with rice and a nice salad of garbanzo beans and some Naan bread. It's just the right amount of food. There are a lot of Indian places around now. This one is a solid bet. Many others are just not good. Oh, the owner is great, he works the front and handles the money I think. But he comes around and makes sure everyone is happy. It makes the vibe positive. One time I requested more Naan and he brought it right out no charge. Five stars...great food, friendly staff and great vibe. read more

Excellent restaurant! I have been ordering food from here ever since they first started out in a gas station. With that said, Cilantro is one of the best places you go can for Indian food in Cary. Not only does the food taste authentic every time I order, but the service is top notch as well. If you are in the Cary area and looking for a true Indian restaurant, you cannot go wrong with Cilantro! read more

Good Indian food. It's not exactly Indian food but has some kind of middle eastern taste to it. Variety of dishes. Tried the lam korma and it was very good. Asked them to increase the spice level without altering the taste. They did a good job at it. read more

I had been to the one located in the Village District (formerly Cameron Village) of DTR in the past and knew of this one opening up through Yelp. If you know me, I am usually not one for seafood but remember I had a pretty good experience at the one in DTR. We noted that it would be a good idea to have a reservation so one was made. Good thing, this place gets crowded fast, even around the 5pm point. Upon arrival, we were promptly shown to a table with menus. While walking in, this restaurant has that beach type feeling with brightly painted areas and subtle pelagic decor without going overboard. The bar area gave a warm, inviting vibe. Back to the menu, their menu is pretty expansive but not over the top multiple pages. I think even the non-seafood lover can find something to like here. We started with hush puppies for the table and I went with the appetizer sized mini crab cakes for myself. I loved the mini crab cakes and the lemon beurre blanc sauce with them, just enough for a starter and tasted great. The hush puppies were good as well but just a tiny bit too brown for me, they were a little bit more done than I'd like. I like them more of a golden finish instead of brown, just my preference. For my main dish, I went with their Cape Fear Shrimp & Grits. They are a pretty popular choice here and I remember liking them at the DTR location. They remained a great choice, they were delicious. They are very flavorful and enjoyable without being spicy, which I like as I am non-spicy food person and it seems most everywhere does their shrimp & grits spicy. I find this take on them refreshing. I would have liked more cheese grits in the serving as it seems to be like a half serving, however the shrimp as well as the creamy sauce were plentiful. You're not given a printed receipt and if you're in a rush and going through the process quickly it's easy to miss. Again I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure I selected the %15 option. The seasoned meat were so bad I had hard time enjoying it. The bulgogi did not taste like a propee bulgogi and once again, tasted old like it has been in the fridge for too long. The spicy bulgogi was so grainy and not spicy at all, almost like they're using low quality gochugaru. Honestly, you will be much better off buying your own ingredients at h-mart or any asian grocery than going to this place. The only saving grace was the kind server who tends us often. 10/10 will not recommend.

Whoa! This place is awesome! I've only been here once so far but it left enough of an impression for me to log on and leave a review. First of all, the place is beautiful. Very classy but the fact that you order yourself keeps it casual at the same time. Two floors, so lots of space. You get your own drinks and I honestly prefer that (no waiting for a server to finally notice you). I came in for dinner and had the Salmon Tikka Kabobs. I don't know why everyone else is complaining about the wait times because my food came out in under 20 minutes. What kind of restaurant are you going to where you get your food in less time than that? And why would you want to go there - I'd rather have my food take a little longer and be obviously freshly made. I don't know if they've only recently started improving the wait time, but regardless, it's fast and efficient now. You can trust me on this! Now on to the food. Or should I say three course meal? It came with a chickpea salad (light and refreshing), rice (subtly flavored), naan (hot to the touch), moroccan hummus and the tikka kabobs. The hummus is unique to this store as I've never had it prepared this way anywhere else. It was so good that it was worth the price of the meal alone. Amazing. Definitely try this. And the salmon tikka kabobs were very good as well! Cut into cubes and in a very generous portion. Perfectly flavored and not fishy at all. And now to the best part of my meal. As I was leaving the cooler by the register caught my eye. On a whim I bought the pistachio cardommom and orea cheesecakes. Put them in the fridge and decided to try them the next morning as I was stuffed. The verdict - these were the best cheesecakes I've ever had. Homemade and worth every penny. You've got to try them. As an Indian person, I don't go out to eat at other Indian restaurants often when I could have the same food at home. It has to be very good and worth the extra expenditure. Extremely disappointed. We dined in the restaurant about a month ago and had some of the best Indian food we'd ever experienced. We rarely get to go out to eat, so we decided it would be our new take-out place. First off, we asked them to throw in some extra rice. Rice is endless at the restaurant so we didn't realize they would charge $4-$5 for a small bowl (cannot be sure since we didn't receive an itemized receipt...). We didn't realize that the side chickpea salad is only offered to dine-in customers so missed out on that. I could have overlooked those issues if the food was as amazing as before. Unfortunately whereas previously the masala sauce was thick and bursting with flavor, this time it was like orange water and very bland. Great ambiance - They have a decent and moderate environment. They haven't tried to decorate with cheap gaudy stuff to "Over Indianize" the atmosphere. Its mildly and tastefully decorated. EXCELLENT food - I like the food overall but their chicken dishes are awesome particularly (chicken wings and Chicken Curry (can't recollect its name). Oh yes, CAKES they are delicious and too good to miss..I loved Strawberry one but took a bite from my sons plate of Coffee cake. Cilantro is hands down the best Indian restaurant I've visited! My favorite thing to eat here is the Butter Chicken. The concept is you order at the counter and you seat yourself, and the food is brought to your table. It's not a full-service as I would've hoped, but it's still great food! The cakes at the front are all homemade and they are to DIE FOR!!!!!!! I can never go to Cilantro without eating some of their cake. 15/10 recommend this place to anyone who would enjoy good Indian food! read more
