Update: Tried going again and the service was worse. It was an average lunch hour, and there were only two other tables of couples on our side of the restaurant. Definitely not busy. They got one of our meals incorrect twice in a row. The first time they brought it out was wrong, and then the "correction" they brought out was wrong again. The only change made to the menu item was to omit any meat-- It's not like we ever ask for anything crazy. It gets better. They handed us the receipt, and they tried charging the dinner item price when it was supposed to be lunch menu price. It was nowhere near the end of their lunch special hours. The waitress acted aggravated about it, as she had the entire time she served us (even before we had to send back the first meal). Maybe it was just a bad day for her, but at least half of encounters I've had at this restaurant have been negative. Seems like a deeper issue. I won't be coming back. I'd rather drive a bit further to more authentic restaurants in Laurel and get better food/better service. read more

Haven't had Mexican food in a long time so decided to get take out. Got the ultimate fajitas and the carne asada. The fajitas was delicious, although I wished 4 shrimps were larger. They were kind of small. Could have a few more tortilla shells. 3 small shells is really not enough to finish the whole fajita entree. The Carne Asada was suppose to be "tender" steak. It was a bit tough. I ended up cutting it into strips against the grain to make it more tender and mixing it into the leftover fajita sauce with the caramel ice onions and peppers. It turned out pretty good. Overall I am pretty happy especially when my order was ready much earlier than expected. read more

Loved loved loved this place! I reserved a table for 7 on a Saturday night. It was busy in the restaurant, but our table was ready right on time. I ordered the Lolo Combo, which consists of a burrito, enchilada, & quesadilla. The meal came with a side of beans and rice. Everything was DELICIOUS! The food came quick, and the waiter was great! For drinks, I ordered a Bahama Mama, and my husband got the Blue Pacific Margarita. It's was a little too sour for his liking, so he switch it for a Bahama Mama. The waiter was very understanding and did not charge up for the margarita. Everything on the menu sounded so good, which made it really hard choose. I must come back to try more of their dishes. We called ahead and picked up our to go order. My son loved the birria tacos. I was pleasantly surprised by the refried beans. They're better than any I've had in Maryland in the dozen years I've lived here. (I'm a transplant from California.) Everything was delicious, regardless of authenticity or spice level. Unfortunately I would not recommend this Mexican restaurant. Although the food comes out quickly and the location is easy to find with ample parking, the food is less than satisfactory. Bland Mexican food is never good. As you enter this restaurant you're greeted by a nice hostess. The interior is clean and decorated with fake plants and authentic lighting. Once seated you receive the customary on the house chips and salsa. I found the salsa too tomato-y (my first sign of bland Mexican cuisine). I ordered the mix and match tacos where you choose 3 tacos from their assortment of tacos. I chose the chicken, carne asada, and pork with pineapple. They came with a side of retried beans, cheese and a heavy portion of shredded ice berg lettuce with a few chopped tomatoes on top. My whole thing is that a good Mexican restaurant should be able to make a bangin taco (a very simple staple) that's full of flavor. This did not happen. I was less than impressed with the flavors. My husband got the super burrito. He says that it definitely was super in terms of the portion size. He felt his burrito was a good blend of flavors with a decent amount of meat. He did say it was heavy on the onions so if you're not an onion person do not order. A side of guacamole would have been nice since he didn't know what to do with all of the lettuce. read more

The chips are stale and heavy, Taco Bell's are much better. Guacamole had no pep--it was dull. Queso, beans were runny, again TB's are better. Bathroom is filthy with chipping paint, cleaning supplies n a milk crate, and a broom. I worry about what this says about the cleanliness of the kitchen. For drinks, we went with Cornita - their take on Margarita + Corona (on the rocks). It was Yumm! Not too sweet, not too watery, just the perfect amount of alcohol and the beer just added to all that favour! Moving on to the main course, being vegetarian, we were happy to see a dedicated Vegetarian section in the menu. We ordered the Veggie Burrito and Veggie Fajitas. I've been coming to this place for lunch for a couple of years. I work nearby and I really enjoy the delicious, authentic food and the fast, friendly service. However, this place blew my mind away! The food here is the definition of latin american comfort food. I got the chicken, steak, and pork tacos which were so good and filling! portions were so big i could barely finish my food! plus, it was so cheap! i really cant emphasize how authentic the food tastes, plus they have sauces to add spice/more flavor depending on how you prefer your tacos. I give them 4 stars for their lunch specials and food quality, but I would never go for dinner. I've been here at least 5 times for lunch and my food is always great (I normally get the veggie burrito, although one time I got the huevos rancheros and it wasn't all that great). I normally hate veggie burritos here in Maryland because where I'm from (California), veggie burritos just mean lettuce, rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. And I LOVE that!! However, over here, veggie burritos mean beans, rice, and a whole lot of sauteed veggies. I know, I'm a vegetarian so maybe I should love that, but if I wanted sauteed veggies, I would just order veggie fajitas and make up my own burrito. I hate sauteed veggies in my burritos. Often times, I end up with sauteed carrots, zucchini and squash and when I think mexican food, those vegetables definitely don't come to mind. But over here at Cinco de Mayo, they sautee more appetizing veggies and I actually like it! It's been hard to find a mexican place here where I actually like the food and Cinco de Mayo is at the top for me! Although I still miss my California -style veggie burritos, so if anyone knows of a place, PLEASE OH PLEASE tell me! Anyway, back to what I said earlier, I would not come here for dinner mainly because their dinner prices are ridiculous. I randomly took a look and their fajitas are in the upper teens/lower 20's. Now, they do offer different seafoods in their fajitas and maybe that's why it's so pricey, but even other things are much more than I think they're worth. Let's start with the Birria Tacos which were Very Bland, barely any cheese was in them and it cost $19.99 for 4 tacos. I prefer the veggies to be sliced thiner than what they prepared. Also, I expected more beans. I may have had a spoonful of beans in the entire burrito. However, the buritto was seasoned well. The rice added nicely to the meal. The chips were hot, which was also a plus. The salsa was the best. It had the right amount of heat. If I choose to visit again, maybe I'll dine in. This is pretty decent Mexican food for the area. The price is a little higher than most Mexican restaurants in Maryland and the drink prices are outrageous. I asked for a small sangria and our waitress said we only have one size -large, but you guy can share. That would have been fine if my husband drank, but he does not. I decided to get one anyways to try and it is large, but at $10 it wasn't worth it. The flavor was ok and yes I have had much better. The food was surprising good for the area especially since I am from So. Cal, so I am always in search of good Mexican. They had a good variety on the menu with a choice of black or pinto refried beans. One thing I did not see was shredded beef, but they did have steak. The chips and salsa were good. They should be served with rice and more Pico de Gallo but other than that I would not change a thing. They come with a cheese sauce and perfectly seasoned refried beans (I'm not a bean fan but these are tasty), topped with a sprinkling of Pico and shredded lettuce.
