Back in the early 90's my best friend in High School worked as a cook at Cinders. Unfortunately during that time period he passed in a fishing/boating incident. I moved from the area and 25+ years have passed since I've visited Cinder's. I returned to the area for a work conference and visited Cinder's once again. I so vividly remember spending an occasional evening at Cinder's with my friend after closing having a pitcher or two and just enjoying the particular time in our lives. He never wanted us to have too many because he didn't want to get in trouble with the boss. Miss my friend and those simpler times. On this visit the steak sandwich was as good as I remember from back in the day. They also now have bottomless fries with their sandwiches. Came here after not getting service from the Milwaukee Burger Company. Had to wait a few minutes, not a big deal. Seated at about 5:40. Next couple came in two minutes later and seated across from us. 6 minutes, waitress walked by us, and took the drink and app orders for the table that arrived after we did. If your front of the house lead isn't able to keep track of who came in first, then they don't need to be managing the front of the house. Again, another disappointment. read more

I've been here a couple times before with my other half while visiting his family in Wisconsin. Honestly, this time Cinder's was not as good as I remember but I gave them an extra star because the staff were all still wearing masks, gloves and sanitizer was available everywhere. Also because the other half's steak sandwich was reported to be pretty darn good. I was not so happy with my fish fry plate which should be stellar in Wisconsin. The perch was tasty but ridiculously minuscule. The shrimp tasted just OK but the haddock was good. The drawn butter and sauces were spot on. My dad and I sat down on a Friday afternoon at 2:15 and was not attended to by the server for 10 minutes. We got up and left, even after I to flag down a server by waving a menu, but I could not get her attention. There were, maybe, eight others in the restaurant at the time, spread out on three tables. It kind of feels like an old diner vibe? A lot of booths and they can accommodate your group size, large or small. They have a grill station where you can watch the food be made. Service: REALLY great server. Super personable and heck, I just wanted her to sit down and hang out. I can't remember her name, but young with thick framed black glasses and short hair to her shoulders. Kept our water glasses filled and brought drinks over promptly. Food: COME HUNGRY. I seriously was ravenous when we arrived, and I STILL could not clear my plate. I ordered the chicken tenders, they hand bread them to order. They were alright, nothing that floored me. French fries were well cooked, could have used more salt. I loved the coleslaw that came on the side, great texture. The cheese curds are fresh, and you get a good portion size. My fiance got a burger and it was a really good size (a 1/3 lb.), he did not leave hungry either. The waitress hooked us up with extra pickles because I am obsessed with eating pickles. Steak sandwich and fries were great. Chicken tenders plate was not. The 4 tiny tenders were wayyyy overcooked, tasteless. The rye bread was stale. Fries and coleslaw good. A waitress ( not assigned to us) came to our table while we we were still eating, with food visible on her plates. She hovered over and said " Come on finish those fries so I can take your plates." Total turn off to be told what to do, and then rush us out of a nearly empty restaurant. $35.00 for 1 soda, 1 water, sandwich/fries and a lifeless chicken tenders plate. First let me say that I have been going to the several Mr. Cinder's Charcoal grills since the 1970s, 1st in Oshkosh. This is my first review of Cinder's, or any other Restaurant. I am 93 years old, so I have been eating fish for a while. Today at Cinder's, was absolutely the biggest disappointment I've had in many years. I ordered the seafood platter which ended up including popcorn shrimp, 1 miniscule, butterflied Pearch, 1 small piece of cod, and Potatoe salad. I did not eat the Pearch as it had strong, strange taste. The rest was tolerable, but far from what is normally expected. The price $27.59 + tax and tip for the platter and coffee. We always do takeout (pandemic) and Cinders is excellent. Never takes more than 20 minutes, even if they're busy. Food is consistently very good. Someone double checks the order, so we've never had a mistake in our orders. Can recommend the steak sandwich, boneless wings, the chicken/bacon/ranch wrap, cheese burgers, but based on those, I'm sure everything on the menu is good. We moved out of the area a few years ago, but Cinder's was an absolute favorite when we lived here. Back then it would have been a 4-5 star review pretty much every time. Generally, if the service is great but the food is so-so, or vice versa, I'm not one to complain. This experience was really the worst of both worlds, which really sucked considering how much my wife missed eating here. Tenderloin sandwich went back, as all pink does not equal medium to anyone I know. Tried to eat my "medium" burger, got about halfway through. My granddaughter's medium burger was somehow fine though? Cheese curds were in the fryer a little too long, I think. Inattentive service all around, despite not being busy at all. I said something after another staff member asked how things were with the meal. I got an explanation that at Cinder's, medium is what the rest of the world would consider medium rare. Ok, what?? I don't ever recall being told this or having an issue with it in years of eating at Cinder's in the past. Even if that is truly the case, why on Earth would the wait staff NOT inform customers of that ahead of time? This was just an overall crap experience. Even with my burger taken off the bill, I still felt a little ripped off when paying. I truly hope my experience was isolated. I got the surf and turf....$28....for a small, overcooked steak, I asked for medium rare and it was well done, and 4 shrimp. Portion size for that price was very disappointing. My husband got a rack of ribs..it was mediocre at best. Very "Applebees" vibe throughout and the waitstaff was not very friendly. Can say we won't be back! Coming here on a Friday night, I was pleasantly surpassed that it only took ten minutes to seat our party of 7. We started our meal with the cheese curds, and while quite good, they were made with mozzarella so they really were more like bite sized mozzarella sticks. I ordered the perch fish fry, as that's not something available where I live, and I was quite happy with it. Two of my family members ordered the all you can eat Alaskan white fish, and while the first plates came out perfectly, the next was burnt to a crisp in spots. Pretty decent American fare at very decent prices. The interior is a little dark and could use some updating, but everything is clean and comfortable - big tables and cozy booths. The waitresses were all super friendly and just the right level of attentiveness. The food is good, with a nice array of fish, burgers, and steak sandwiches. Have the fries on the side, they're very tasty. I had the perch, which was good, and a regular serving was more than enough. Sodas were refilled without asking and we were offered a refill on the fries as well (we were full so didn't take those). Cinders is not fancy, but a good solid meal at a decent price. read more

i have had great experiences with this place so thats why its higher but i just got the mozarella sticks and they were falling apart and burnt. the waitress still handed us them but didnt say anything. the other cinders is phenomenal! this place is okay but i still think that it wasn't great. i still love cinder's, just wish the experience was better on black friday. the place was busy so i dont blame them but this is just criticism, no hate! i dont have bad experiences with cinder's but i was just confused on the food. thank you! read more

This is a nice cozy place with a good atmosphere, large menu and friendly staff. My burger was done exactly as ordered, So many places send out medium rare on a rare order. This is not one of those places. It was exactly how I wanted it and seasoned perfectly. Fries were really good and the wait staff are very friendly. Besides our server, Kelly, another server happened to walk past and asked how we were doing.Refreshing in todays world of not my table, not my tip! I live a block from Cinders and go there whenever I can't decide on something. The food is pretty good and I'm rarely disappointed with the service. I've been going here for years because the food is absolutely wonderful. It always has been and it's because of the cooks. Unfortunately, this past visit, my exceptional food and dining experience was overshadowed by the rude line supervisor, who kept complaining and berating the cooks. Not sure who she was, but she's got purple hair. One of the cooks has been making food there for well over a decade, but whatever he was doing that day wasn't "good enough" for her. I looked around and other diners were clearly just as disturbed as I was. It's too bad... he's wasn't the problem. Not sure if I'll be back, at least not when she's on shift. Went there on a Thursday night. Place was full and with the 4 star right I had high expectations. The server greeted us in a timely manner and was very friendly. She took our drink order and Once we received our drinks she said she would be right back. She came back 10 mins later. Server was efficient I taking the order. Brought out my salad right away. Dinner salad was great. I order the small portion of perch. Fish was dry but decent flavor. Cole slaw was very good but a little wet. My companions enjoyed their steak sandwich and burger of the week. Negative comment - server never came back to check on the food. I always feel it is a must.
