I've been here for drinks a few times. This time I ordered a glass of chardonnay and it was a very generous pour, so thank you!! My boyfriend had a moscow mule which was very good. We went on a Saturday night and we were welcomed with live music! The band was absolutely incredible, they have live music here from 6:30-9:30 on Saturdays. We will absolutely be back! My sister's friend had book a theater for a watch party for a movie. most of us had ordered ahead of time. I ordered fish and chips. Almost midway to the movie and the food still not done. I dont get why it took more than an hour to get my food. The sad part is that my food was so bland. Salt would have made a big difference. Fries was ok. Really disappointed that my food wasn't good after waiting for a long time. Also the movie starts on the time it's scheduled. No previews at all. You're better off eating from home or go out after the movie. Also a lot of the people in the same group agree that the food isn't good. Overall a terrible experience. I like this spot quite a bit. This is a great place to drop into for drinks or dinner before catching a movie at Alameda Cinema. You can also purchase your movie tickets here, order drinks to take into the theater, and order food which is delivered to your seat. Everything I've tried from their menu has been delicious. This is also a great option for Sunday brunch. This morning we tried the spinach frittata with goat cheese which was incredibly tasty. Paired with a bottomless mimosa, and I am a happy girl! Jim, who works here in the evenings, is a great guy, very hospitable, and always greets me and my partner warmly. Perfect even for a rainy day! (It rained a lot) Popped in before the IHeartRadio concert and I'm glad I did. It's a mix of Causal dining meets Hollywood flare. It's really nice inside that it could work out as your weekday bar to watch the game or bring your family. We were greeted by the friendly hostess and seated pretty quickly, but they do also take reservations which is good if you have a large group. Our server, Jeremy and general manager, Seth, were really fantastic and I give them a 5 star just for that alone. :) The breakdown: Drinks: I had the Moscow Mule which was amazing and set the mood. (Note: Order 3+, that good) Appetizer: × Ahi Poke on these tortilla chips with a sesame soy type of sauce. Whatever it was, it was delicious. × Chicken wings with the sauce on the side. It was cooked really crispy and was just the right amount of crunch for wings. (6 pieces, good to share for 2 people) Main: × The fish tacos were great. The pickled relish slaw that comes with it has a bit of a spicy kick and I liked it so much I ordered another side of just that! ( 4 tacos, good to share for 2 people) Kudos to the chef for putting together a great menu and not just nachos and sliders. Overall I would come back and recommend trying it. Made reservations to eat at the Cinema Grill on Father's Day June 16. In our group of four we had Halibut, Ribs, The restaurant opened at 10 am for this day. So we were able to go to the 12:30 movie theatre to see Bad Boys. The Meals were terrific for all. More than we could get our theatre seating and movie tickets at the Grill. They were free to our group because of Father's Day. The service was great and food was great. And, a special shout out to Miguel Pool, General Manager. The service was special as well as the eating environment. Alameda is so fortunate to have such a Grill attached to their Theatre. We will be back.... read more

Absolutely love the concept of having real food brought into the theater. I've heard the place has good live music sometimes too. Unfortunately, the first time I actually ordered food will probably be the last. I ordered before I went into the theater. After my movie had been going for 45 minutes I decided to call the restaurant. Only then did they bring me my food. I got fish and chips and it was the worst fish and chips I've ever had. It was cold (not surprising after my wait), the fries were bland and almost stale, and the fish was breaded more like a chicken tender. They also forgot the sauce on the side I requested. Their bartenders are amazingly friendly and they do alcohol right :) Oh yah... their food is amazingly good as well!!! The first time I was here... I was in mourning mode due to my late grandma's passing and I mentioned that in passing with the bartender when he asked what drink I wanted ... and he made me a drink that honestly, made me numb the pain even for just a couple of hours. My friend and I shared their sweet potato fries and it was good and nicely portioned. The last two times I was here... I ended up ordering the same entree: The Ratatouille Pizza (butternut squash, eggplant, goat cheese, basil, sunflower seeds, sun dried tomato pesto) - it's thin crust and it's huge... definitely well worth sharing... but I didn't :) It's just taste so good... well seasoned and well made... right crust... seriously... well worth checking it out for yourself :) Overall... I really hope this establishment last and the fact that you can order drinks and bring it up to the cinema... pretty cool... still have to try it but the bro said it was good! We frequently visit Cinema Grill before we go the movies in Alameda. It serves good food, has a decent tap selection and a few good wines. It has live music on the weekends that we generally enjoy very much. Per our normal modus operandi, we sit at the bar. The bar manager Jim is one of those people who just absolutely kicks ass at his job. Attentive, extremely competent and works with each customer to make sure they have a great dining and movie experience. He busts his ass to a degree I rarely see in the restaurant industry. Order your reserved seat online before you go. Give your credit card to Jim and he will bring you a drink and your ticket stubs for entry. Leave yourself an hour before your show and order the tasty burrata or a fresh salad. The pizzas are tasty too. Lots of stuff on the menu we can't eat so go yourself and see what you think. read more

Will Yelp ever give a zero stars option? Even giving it a single star means there must be some redeeming quality about a place. Cinema Grill has none. But if you want to have your night ruined by garbage food and shitty service, then come on by! When we were greeted by our server, Moises, he was acting like he was being inconvenienced by our presence. My friend asked about a particular drink, and he said, "Don't know. I've never had it." Good answer, dude! Very honest and straight forward. After placing our order, I asked for bread and butter. 10 minutes went by and no bread, no butter. Oh, we also had no water, our drinks hadn't come, we weren't offered water, and there were no napkins and utensils on our table. Our drinks arrive. Minutes later I'm finally able to stop Moises and ask him for the bread and butter. He comes back with rock-hard toasted slivers of bread. Again, no butter, no utensils. A few minutes later I'm able to stop him and ask for butter, and with his superb attitude, he came back with two ice cold pats of butter from the back. And a few minutes later, I'm able to ask him for some utensils because I wasn't planning on just rubbing the butter onto what had now effectively become croutons. Moises gives me a fork. Thanks, dude! I see you are a man of culture. Our deviled eggs come out. And by come out, I mean they seem like they literally just came out of the refrigerator. Nice and cold, flavorless. What seems like an eternity later, our food comes out. I ordered fried chicken sliders, of which the fried chicken looks like it fell on the floor, and then was fried even more to maybe kill the germs, I don't know. The plate was very wet, so the bottom bun on each slider was soaking wet. I didn't eat that part. My fries were terrible, but definitely worth the extra $2 in place of the chips they give you, because knowing I paid extra for the mediocrity really rounded out this experience. My friend orders a sparkling water halfway through dinner (because we weren't given any water, nor were we asked) and a glass of wine. By the time dinner was over, Moises said he forgot to put in the wine order with an air of apathy that only he could pull of, then returned with a to-go children's cup of San Pellegrino. We declined it and asked for the bottle. Again, a man of culture--just not my culture. Finally, we'd had enough so I asked for the check. I hand over my credit card, and several minutes later Moises comes back with the check. A few minutes after that I'm able to stop him and ask him for a pen so I can sign it, and for my credit card back so I can get the hell out of there. I watched him walk over to the computer and grab my credit card off a table that was sitting right next to it. Thanks for keeping it secure! Overall, the food sucked, the evening sucked, and Moises sucked and I didn't leave a tip, which was a first ever for me--just like this long ass review. Fuck this place. read more

By happenstance I came upon the Cinema Grill when my Plan A venue for sweet potato fries a few doors down happened to be close for the day. I was in for a pleasant surprise on multiple levels. Upon entry, I was immediately greeted by, unbeknownst to me, the owner/manager who patiently/efficiently responded to my numerous questions about their menu, live music events, etc. Cinema Grill also prepares fare for theater goers/attendees (Alameda Theatre & Cineplex/ In Theatre Dining)), and periodically proffers customized menu items for certain movies. As such, this venue tends to be very subscribed/busy... as it was this day. The owner/manager checked as to whether my order of sweet potato fries had been fulfilled, but I was patient and in no hurry...irrespective, it was assuring that he was being mindful. Though Cinema Grill turned out to be Plan B for my sweet potato fries hankering, "B" stands for "Better" in this context....I now have a new Plan A! I decided to additionally order their Poke Bowl thanks to a "Regular" diner whom I queried. I was NOT disappointed! I shall return to check out their Live Music Brunch happening and other menu items! YOU MUST TRY!! Mother's Day 2022 was a HIT thanks to Cinema Grill! Ordered their Mother's Day special to-go the day before. We were blown away by the generous portions, perfectly cooked Rib eye that came with vegetables, salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, red velvet cake for dessert and champagne and peach Bellinis. Service is great, too! Staff is friendly and attentive and most importantly, the chefs are good at what they do. This might be our new tradition. read more

The server/bartender who looks like William Shatner (I'm talking Star Trek V William Shatner) was a complete jerk. Tried to order a Caesar salad to take with us in the theater, which is apparently against policy. I guess it's too messy? That's pretty hilarious given that the theater serves nachos, popcorn, and ice cream bars, but whatever, rules are rules. The manner in which the bartender informed us of this was beyond condescending. Don't scold two adults who are trying to buy your overpriced food. Maybe explain the situation and offer the theater menu? Don't sit there and talk down to my girlfriend as if she's a child breaking the rules. Luckily, she was having none of that and proceeded to sass this bozo right back. She even left a strongly worded survey. I had been here once before, same bartender wouldn't let my friend who arrived late order food because our order had already been put in. What the hell kind of logic is that? This marks two times this guy has turned down a sale. Cinema Grill: get rid of this caustic, unpleasant server and work on creating a decent environment that would make people actually want to dine here. I wish I had checked the reviews first! The wife and I decided to take in a movie at this great theater and also try out the Cinema Grill where they deliver the food right to your reserved movie seats. Fantastic idea, unfortunately the food was a fail. I had the steak wrap ($14!!) which was absolutely underwhelming. Zero salt, spice, or flavor for that matter. I had to add the included potato chips in with each bite to kill the blandness. The wife had the wings and skewers plate. Apparently that is where all of the salt from my wrap ended up. Almost inedible. Really disappointing to spend almost $50 on a dinner for two that was such poor quality. We love the theater but will sneak our own food in next time. There are dozens of other great restaurants in Alameda who make magic with a $50 dinner. read more

Really happy there's the reservation option on yelp. It's very helpful. This place is really narrow. They seated 5 of us also in a very narrow corner. We all are a heavy set of people, so we had to try to adjust our seating. I don't like the fact that happy hour is only at the bar. Then, being a very narrow place, I wouldn't want to sit at the bar anyway, so we all missed out on the happy hour opportunity, cause they wouldn't let us have the happy hour drinks at our table. I came here as a second stop food/drink hopping on a Saturday evening. We walked in with a party of 15 at about 6pm and were seated together at two long tables placed together. The service was fast and efficient given that we started out with 12 and ended up with 16 people over the course of the hour or so we were there. Our waitress did a great job as only about 1/3 of the group ordered food and the rest ordered just drinks. Second and third round offers came right on time. We tried everything from wine, to the cowboy soda to the cucumber gimlet, which I have to say order only if you like almond flavor as it is made with an alcohol that is of almond base. Had a few opportunities to order at the Cinema Grill Theater line and honestly thought the service could've been a little better and quicker. There is only one person working the register so expect to wait quite sometime especially when movies are about to start. The food takes around 25 minutes, so the servers will interrupt you during your movie. Food options: mostly wings, fries, burgers and pizzas are available. You can also order alcoholic beverages to bring inside the theater, however the drinks are pretty much watered down by the time it arrives. Pricewise, $8 for personal pizzas and sandwiches, and $15-17 for chicken wings and tacos. Place your order at the cinema theater bar line and feel free to purchase your tickets here. If you purchased your tickets at the box office, they will assign you a seat once you order. If there is no assigned seating available, you will be given a buzzer to pick up your food in front of Theater 1. This place does have promise though, but the cinema dining concept and service here defiunitely could be improved. read more

I've been to the Cinema _many_ times before, and it's always been good--solidly "B." This evening was quite different, and I'm not sure whether it was an anomaly or a sign of a severe downturn. The evening started off fine enough with a friendly-seeming waiter. We were seated, perused the menu, and I settled on my staple Festive Friday libation (a sidecar) whilst my mother wavered on whiskies. Our waiter came to take our order, I gave mine, and my mother mentioned she'd like a whisky; she paused to allow him to list whiskies, and he paused to allow her to make her selection. Seeing their stalemate of mutual politesse and knowing my mother's tastes, I asked, "What single malts do you have?" The waiter could have simply answered my question, but instead he decided to educate we two poor, ignorant women: "Single malts would be SCOTCHES," he says, with plenty of emphasis to highlight what he apparently believed to be a mistake on my part. For just a second or two, I was floored. This is the equivalent of asking a bookshop what paperback books they have, only to receive the retort "Paperbacks aren't BOOKS, they are SOFTCOVERS." "...Scotch WHISKIES, or as they call them in Scotland, simply WHISKY. Whisky spelled without an E, by the way, as is done in Scotland, Japan, and Canada." I replied, having actually travelled to Scotland several times specifically to pursue further education on--what's it called again?--uisge beatha, the Water of Life, or as it's frequently pronounced here, WHISKY. Incidentally, not all single malts are scotches. There are, in fact, American, Irish, and other single malt whiskeys as well. Attempting to mansplain--incorrectly, one might add-- my booze to me was the first mistake. He went on to name the [limited] selection of whiskeys (I confess I rather tuned him out to go to my happy place momentarily), and my mother, bemused by his insistence that scotch is somehow not whisky, just agreed to let him bring dealer's choice. She was unimpressed with his selection. I've had the fish and chips here previously and found it to be delicious, so I ordered this classic chestnut tonight. Instead of fish & chips, however, I received desiccated fish shards--a collection of small shreds of tail-end bits fried to oblivion--on top of fries. I'm used to a filet, occasionally two smaller filets, greasy, moist, and golden. I have had fish & chips in San Francisco, in New York, in London, in Edinburgh, in Dublin &c--whether cod, haddock, pollock, or mahi-mahi--everything from expensive, elegantly-plated versions with gourmet aioli to the kind you get twisted in an oleaginous newspaper from yer local chippy with a shake of malt vinegar--and so it has always been. I have NEVER previously encountered any approximation of this classic dish that so resembled what's left in the fryer at the end of the night when you clean it. I sampled one shard and found it rubbery and dehydrated, so I put it back on my plate. I thought perhaps this condition was unique to this particular shard, so I took a small nibble of another and found it to be the same. I did not end up eating the fish any further; I left the dried-up nuggets on the plate. I ate the fries and the coleslaw, both of which (I don't resent saying) were quite tasty. The waiter checked in on us once further, and since he asked, I told him frankly that the fish was dry. Visibly annoyed, he offered to get another made, but I couldn't imagine that the garbage parts of the fish would be any better the second time around so I declined. He collected our dishes and that was the last we saw of him. The manager (?) eventually brought us our bill after we sat next to our empty glasses for some time. We would have had further cocktails if anyone had actually asked, but by the time we had the manager come by, we'd decided to just go try the new Town Tavern down the street. I still tipped around twenty percent because I know waitstaffing is hard and I try to be mindful of that, but to be honest, I can't imagine we'll be back--Alameda has tons of restaurants, and two of my favourite gastropubs are nearby (Slainte in JLS and Sidebar in Lake Merritt). The last time I was here, the service was good and the food was great, although the table was dirty--it was persistently sticky, even after I wiped it down with an alcohol wipe from my purse. This time, the service was not good and the fish was ghastly. This is not a trend which I care to pursue to its natural outcome. read more

My husband and I came and were impressed with the service and food here. We ordered the ahi poke appetizer, the cinema grill burger, and bison meatloaf. Since we don't eat pork, we were happy that they were able to serve the meatloaf without the bacon jam. The ahi poke and meatloaf were good, but my personal favorite out of everything we ordered was the burger. It is really delicious, and comes with fresh bbq chips. Really hits the spot! Pretty awesome little spot. We met up with my husband's aunties here to grab lunch then watch a movie. So this location is perfect, close to the garage and the theater. I had the pulled pork sammy, which was delicious. I also had the cross pollination drink. I would have probably ordered a few more since it was so good. But day drinking wasn't in the agenda. They also have a few manikins in the back with cosplay costumes on. Pretty neat. They also deliver food to your seat when you're in the theater. HOW AMAZING! Movies and delicious food at the same time? Why not?? Except, our movie was at 2 and we were hungry at 12, so we decided to go here and try out their brunch menu! It was really empty on a Saturday afternoon, maybe because the weather wasn't really great out. We got our seated by a nice lady from the front. My boyfriend ordered the Nutella French Toast, I ordered a Crab Cake Bacon Benedict, and we got bottomless mimosas! Our order came out really quick! The presentation of our food was just really pretty! That's one way of dragging me into a place to eat. The crab cake benedict was really good! It was full of flavor and I really liked the crab cake. I like potatoes! So I enjoyed the potatoes on my plate. The boyfriend's nutella french toast was really good too, but there wasn't anything out of the ordinary! It's french toast topped with nutella. Lastly, you can't ever go wrong with mimosas! A nice amount of orange juice and champagne. The man serving us was really attentive and made sure to check on us pretty often. The first time me and my gf went there it was great, the waitress recommended a lot of delicious dishes and was totally accommodating under the understanding that we were trying to eat quick before a movie. Today was a different experience. On the phone, I ordered two Duck Ragu pastas, following what I saw on Google's menu option of the place. The guy took my order and said "Okay, 2 duck ragu, it will be ready in 15 min." I get there and he said it would be just a little bit longer and hands me the bill. On the bill it said short rib ragu. I brought that up with him since it was different from what I ordered over the phone. He says "oh, the duck ragu hasn't been on the menu in ages, you need to check the restaurant website" He was totally unapologetic. I think 3 Stars for this restaurant is pushing it, but the service was excellent! We came here on a Sunday before watching the movie Dr. Strange. The showing was at 7:45pm and we had an early dinner at 5:00pm. The restaurant was not busy and we were immediately greeted and seated. We shared a pizza (The Godfather) and a Baby Kale Caesar Salad. The pizza is thin crust with tons of toppings. It was good but greasy. The salad was nothing special but I did enjoy the parmesan cheese that was grated into the dressing. I even dipped my pizza crust in it! I think about 5:30pm or so, the place had live music. A lady sang while playing a guitar. I'd recommend them not to use the speaker because it became too loud and we couldn't even have a conversation. Even the lady who performed said it was loud... Anyway, we had no idea about the Back Stage Pass thing, where you can order food and bring it directly to the theatre! We only learned this from the previews before the movie. I'd like to give it a try at some point because it sounds pretty fun! read more

Let me start off by saying, this is my 1st Yelp review. The 2 Star is based specifically on the General Manager, Cesar Gamero, refusing to give me additional rice and charging me $5 for rice even when its not listed on their menu as a side. The $5 on my bill had to be shown as garlic mash potatoes because rice is not even listed as a side dish on the menu. And mind you, I didn't ask for a side of rice. My meal, Land and Sea Gumbo, had a dab of rice. I simply asked our excellent server, Deanna, if I can have a little more rice added to my meal because I ran out of the rice after half of the gumbo was eaten. She returned and asked if I wanted a side of rice. I agreed because I did need more rice. I asked to speak to the Manager because I had a bit of delayed reaction that I was going to be charged for the rice. I told the General Manager that I have a suggestive that I be served more rice with my gumbo. He told me it costs too much to give more rice and began to take the side of rice back. I told him to leave it because I will pay for it. I voiced that I was surprised if someone wanted only rice that they would be charged. He basically really told me that giving additional rice is too costly and would raise the cost of the dish. Mind you I paid $17.00 for the dish. I told him I can't believe that he is not willing to give a customer more rice on their plate. My only option was to pay for a side of rice that is not even on the menu. I would have given 5 stars for the Server, Deanna's pleasant attitude and the taste of all the food we had...the gumbo, beet salad I had and my husband's Maui Maui fish and chips and Thai Chicken Meat balls. In this day and age where there are so many choices of where to eat, I thought attention to a customer'a satisfaction is just as Important as the quality of the food! He refused to even sympathize with me and acknowledge my concerns. I hope the Owners of the restaurant don't have that same philosophy!!!! read more
