I've been to Italy, so you can't fake the funk on the eats, cause I'll call you out. My first encounter with an Italian rice ball (no, not rice queen, fellassssss) was in Bologna. It was love at first taste. This spot has rice balls that made me forget my first love. It was a crispy crust filled with flavorful rice, glorious gobs of cheese, parsley, bits of chicken and sausage....and when you pour the tomato sauce on it...oh boy.... Really expensive, and while the food was a huge portion, it was pretty bad. Got a tin of Baked Ziti & chicken parm from the steam trays, and was charged $20 for it! The baked ziti was so overcooked it was softer than baby food, and the chicken was tough, rubbery and overcooked. As I was ordering, I even asked "How much will this be?" and was told "Oh, I don't know, I don't do pricing." When the guy finally rang up my order and saw my shock over the $20 charge, his response was "Oh, first time here?" and shrugged. Yes, it was, stereotype pizza guy, and also my last. Dude. How has no one reviewed this yet? Cioffi's, to me, is the quintessential italian deli. Whenever I bring home friends from outside the tri-state area, Cioffi's subs are an absolute must. I must show these people thats sandwiches from Subway and Quizno's are dog food compared to a real deal italian sub. Their pizza and chicken parm also ROCKS. This local Springfield Italian deli is clean, well lit, and excellently managed. They do a great job on any Italian sandwich. Side salads are all spot on. The dinners are very good and the pizza is good but not my local favorite. I always try to visit this place at least once a week. read more

Now this is a deli! The best food, best ingredients, best people! The owners, Joey and Jerry, are the best and most friendly people you'll ever meet. This is pure Italian cooking; everything takes authentic like Mamma would've made and it shows. I highly recommend any of the dinners, sandwiches...heck, everything here is great! I'm a big deli person and usually, you either get great food/bad service or the exact opposite. Here, you get the best of both worlds! Usually very happy, come here often for dinner after work. Tonight, not so much. Told them I wasn't very hungry, just wanted a half order, 2 meatballs and a little bit of pasta. $10.70. For 2 meatballs and no, I didnt get bread. I questioned it and they were like 'yeah' no other explanation. A full dinner is usually $13 or so and and twice the food. 80% of the price for 50% of the food?? I wanted to send someone in after me to get a side of 2 meatballs, because I have ordered that before and swore it was about $3-4. Ripped off!! So, I tested my price theory today from my review above. I went in and only asked for 2 meatballs and a little sauce, no bread, $3.21. 18 days ago when I went in and asked for 2 meatballs over a tiny bit of pasta, they charged me $10.70. So I paid $7.49 for a little linguini!! Just like the reviewer previously that said prices were always inconsistent, here is a perfect example. This pricing is insane and inconsistent. read more

Some of the best Italian food in the area! Much of the menu is pricey but the portions are pretty generous. Pizza is good but everything else there is so much better making it not worth getting. The specials of the day are always great. I enjoy getting the special chicken dish of the day with a side of pasta, the cost is high but I often get a meal and a half out of it. The soups are always homemade and delicious. The best thing about this place is the sandwich station. You can get a super tasty sandwich for the same price youd pay at any local deli but here it's extra fresh meats and 50% larger. Cioffi's has basically everything you could ask for in a deli/pizzeria. All the food is fresh and delicious and theirs good variety. The pasta fagioli soup is exceptional and their eggplant parm is some of the best I've had. On the pizzeria side my go-to slice is the square margarita slice. The only drawback and the reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is the prices. After reading other reviews I can see I'm not the only one with these complaints. By far the best Italian deli in the area! The paninis are to die for! All the food I've had here is great, actually, and the owner is super friendly. He always makes you feel at home. Italians are well known for the sandwiches and Cioffi's delivers one mean sandwich. I ordered a whole ham, provolone, and salami sandwich for $7.00 with all the fixings. Not knowing what I was getting into, I received an entire Italian loaf of bread with the absolute best cold cuts and cheese imaginable, sprinkled with Italian dressing. I definitely did not expect such a monstrosity to be delivered straight into my gut with enough food to spare for lunch another day. Awesome prices for enormous portions for sure. In an area seriously lacking some easy, delicious, and local lunch options Cioffi's is a standout. Not only are their Italian subs amazingly tasty, they have all the other delicious homemade stuff you would expect from an Italian establishment (i.e. 'za, calzones, pasta, salads, etc.). My personal favorite is the prosciutto and provolone sandwich. They slice the deli meat fresh and the portion is more than generous. A half sandwich would be a whole almost anywhere else! 5 stars for ruining my life. I LOVE sandwiches and macaroni salad. It's easily my favorite lunch, and I eat them all the time, including making it myself, something I considered myself very good at doing. Then I tried Cioffi's. I can no longer enjoy any other sandwich or macaroni salad. This shit is incredible. They put just a touch of parmesan in their mac salad, and their bread, meat, and veggies are all the freshest around. Anything I try to make myself is no longer enjoyable. Corner deli's simply don't cut it anymore. I've even caught myself turning down sandwiches prepared by my girlfriend, knowing that it would simply increase my desire for a Cioffi's sub with macaroni salad. Only con is that their specialty pizza and prepared meals are definitely pricey, but their sandwiches are priced about the same as anywhere else in the area. read more

So when I moved to New Jersey I thought I would never find a slice as good as the ones I would have in NYC. All of that changed when I found Cioffis. Pizza is ok, not great. I am particularly not a fan of their salads due to the generous amount of mayo, they are so soupy...yikes! On the other hand, their meatballs are simply the best around, all of their pasta dishes are delicious. I could eat their pasta sauce/gravy by itself, it is amazing. Their sandwiches are the best, they are generous with their meats, and the aged provolone is mouth-watering. What happened to Cioffi's? Used to be a very good sandwich shop but now it's just an over priced dominos!! Bought cheese steak sandwiches. They were dry and over cooked. The sandwiches were mostly bread with a little bit of cheese and 2 slices of thin steak. NOT RECOMMENDED! My husband ordered stuffed shells. The portion size was tiny (5 small shells). It came with a slice of stale Italian bread! Also not recommended! We ordered a Margherita pizza with eggplant and ricotta While the pizza was pretty good it was overlooked and I didn't taste any olive oil. It cost us $23.90 plus tax for the pizza! All totaled the order for 2 sandwiches, 1 stuffed shells and a pizza cost us $65.00 plus tax, and a online order fee, delivery fee, and tip. Went in person today to place an order for next day delivery, and one of the owner's took my order. He was so rude to me, after i walked out, I called to cancel my order, as i was questioning why I was giving this jerk my money. Told me he was "So busy and didn't have time for me to think, I just needed to place the order!'. My family and I go here quite often, as we are from the area, but I will take my business elsewhere from now on. There are too many good pizzarias in the area to deal with bad service. read more

At 5:13, I placed an order for a low-fat focaccia pizza and a spinach salad with chicken. After repeating my order 3 separate times to 2 persons, I was told-- as is the norm with take-out-- that it would be ready in 15 minutes. About 10 minutes later, I left to pick it up at the restaurant, which is a mere 2 miles and 5 minutes from me. When I arrived, the salad was prepared, the pizza was not. It is normal to give 5-10 minutes grace period for food to be prepared, as it is not an exact science and establishments can be swamped at times. I waited an additional 37 MINUTES in the restaurant, for a total preparation time of 52 minutes!! I waited partially because my order was already in and it was snowing and partially out of curiosity-- to see what sort of remedy and apology Cioffi's would offer. A simple "sorry for the wait" would suffice for a 10 minute wait, and that's all I got. A true professional establishment would at least offer a partial refund for such egregious service, which I did not get. The pizza was fine-- could have used more salt-- and the salad was quite good. Not everyone will experience the same awful service I did, but if and when you do, don't expect any sort of professionalism from Cioffi's. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING HERE. On a side note, I had previously been here for lunch-- very good sandwiches but far higher price than normal for a Central Jersey establishment. Try Village Trattoria or Zappia's in Summit instead!! read more
