We went to celebrate my mom's birthday dinner and had a wonderful experience. Our server was attentive and had a good pace of service. We were in the back room by the kitchen entrance/exit which was kind of distracting, however it was a Saturday night and they were pretty busy. The oysters were my favorite & my burger was good as well.

TALK ABOUT AN AMAZING DEAL! $1 oysters from 4-6 on tuesdays. Also dirty martini was phenomenal. What a treat. I don't understand how they aren't absolutely packed every Tuesday.

Can I give Cioppino 20 stars? Is that allowed? We went here for Matt's birthday dinner and they knocked our socks off. The service was great, when I made the reservation, they asked if it was for a special occasion, and I let them know about the birthday boy. When they called to confirm the reservation two days before they asked if we'd like a special message in our menus and I said sure! Anything to make a birthday more special. Everyone said happy birthday to him like we were surrounded by family. They even remembered to say it at the host stand when we left almost 2 hours later. We started off with Wagyu tartare and oysters because we are adults and can do what we want. The Wagyu was the star of the show in the tartare, no overlapping flavors here, just beef. The oysters were some of the largest I've had in Pittsburgh, and they were tasty with their home made hot sauce or the mignonette. Main course came out next. I got the sea bass and Matt got the restaurants namesake. Neither disappointed. The sea bass was prepared in a way I've never had it before, with crispy skin? Wow. It was served Oscar style, my favorite, and the crab with the hollandaise and asparagus just sent me into an immediate food coma. We were offered dessert but declined because we were so full. A few moments later, our great server, Olga, came out with a pretty delicious cake, complete with a candle. She didn't sing or make a fuss, and it was so nice of her. Not to worry, we somehow found room for the cake and left ready for bed. Totally recommend for a special occasion night, or happy hour, as my fellow Yelp Elite, Julie, tells me, they do dollar oysters on Tuesday in the lounge! Will definitely be back for that. Happy Eating!

Birthday reservations for 7:15 on a weekday. Seated immediately. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Accommodated outside birthday cake. Appetizers ordered: Oysters on a half shell had a strong fishy taste. They were better topped with the sauces brought on the side. Crispy pork belly had a tasty cheesy bread with it our guests raved about. Crab dip was super thick and was okay. Entrees: Lobster bisque has about 3 or 4 small pieces of lobster visible. Short Rib with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were very good. Meat was extremely tender and everything was seasoned just right. Husband had the Cioppino dish with shrimp mussels, seafood clams etc. He stated that the dish and sauce was extremely salty to taste. Guests had Rack of lamb and Steak filet. Both told me that they liked the meal but liked their pork belly appetizer more. We had a group of 7 in our party. The bill was split 3 ways. Each of the 3 bills had a 20% gratuity added. Parking lot and garage conveniently adjacent to the restaurant.

I like this place, but feel like I always order the wrong thing. I was super excited about my salmon eggs benedict, but didn't realize it was fully cooked instead of lox, which threw me off. My friend ordered the lox & waffle board which was so good and really cute. They also have great happy hour specials!

A true local gem located in the historic Strip District.  A seafood, chophouse and bar serving seasonal and fresh bites as well as elegant, homemade cocktails.  They also have a huge wine collection and a cozy cigar bar with tons of whiskey options.  Dine in their dining room, lounge, on the patio, check out the cigar bar or rent their private dining room.  The service is fantastic, and they are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful with choosing the right dish.  Our waitress Alex was amazing- she knows the menu very well. After dinner had a cocktail in the Cigar Bar with Nicole who is amazing! For our meal, they first brought our delicious bread, oil & butter. For our appetizer we tried the steak tartar, which was the first time I had ever had it and it was so good and flavorful. For dinner we did ribeye, broccolini, crab cake, Cioppino platter, Lobster Mac, and wedge salad! Their new menu concept is amazing- you can choose a la cart and family style dishes. Plus they have their own pastry chef- in house, so we had to get dessert- the sticky toffee cake was unreal- made with house vanilla bean whipped cream!!!!!

I am a long time Customer who comes to Cioppino regularly. First and foremost, the restaurant and Cigar Bar are top notch, in my opinion. The food and the employees are first class. The Cigar Bar is the hands down the best in the city. Nicole sets an extremely high bar in how to manage a cigar bar - she is second to none.

I came here with family for a birthday celebration, and I don't think I'll return. The personalized menu with the birthday message was a nice touch. They have live music creating a calming atmosphere. I also appreciate the fact that everything is made from scratch, but the time and price just weren't worth it. From start to finish, we spent almost 3hrs here for 8 people. The drinks took some time to come out. Bread and dipping oil came awhile (10-15min) after the drinks. My short rib with whipped potatoes and Brussel sprouts were good, but not worth $42. It sounded like I enjoyed my meal the most and mine was on the cheaper side. The dessert sampler was good, and probably the best part of the meal. When we asked for dessert spoons to adequately eat the crème brûlée from the tiny cups, we received a weird response about having to find spoons. Spoons were located; then we were jokingly warned not to take them because apparently people do all the time. Again, not a terrible experience, just one I won't willingly experience again.

My first visit in 4 years since pandemic. They have now opened up all sides of the bar/lounge area & added more tables & removed a lot of chairs & couches. They have a 4-6 happy hour. It's $1-$2 off wines, beers & some apps on the bar menu. Definitely even pricier when I was last here in 2019. I dropped $99 including tip on oysters, calamari, prime sliders and happy hour cocktails for just me! But the food is very good, and I had Barcelona Brut Cava (having lived there it was fun to drink this). They still host live music & this was an unusually warm Friday evening with all sides open air & the patio filled. Music by my friends Lori Russo & Key Factor. Don't forget to tip the band! My bartender was obviously new, so she had to ask the male bartender a lot of things, but it was fine. I recommend this for a splurge for happy hour or dinner.

We had the pleasure of participating in the first cocktail class at Cioppino and are already looking forward to our next trip. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and so much fun to spend a few hours with. The class was informative and delicious! Each cocktail was paired with an item off the brunch menu. The creativity in each dish was so pleasing to the palate. It offerrd a unique twist on some brunch favorites. The venue is located in the prime strip district right along the railroad and offered easy parking close by.

    Rubbery Calamari

While staying near the airport and after being tired of the food in that area (it's mostly all pub style food... Fried stuff, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, typical Mexican, etc) I decided to check out downtown and chose this place after seeing many positive reviews online. I drove the 30 mins in traffic there and bellied up to the bar. The vibe was definitely not exciting, rather boring. There was a guy bartending, who was rather slow in his approach and who rarely checked in to see how things were going. I opted for some calamari to go with my wine, while I looked over the menu for dinner options. The calamari came, but I had no silverware not... I guess they don't put out a placemat and service for people eating at the bar automatically when ordering food? The calamari came out and the batter on it was spot-on, perfect! Unfortunately the calamari itself was very rubbery and chewy and the aioli that came with it was flavorless. I hardly ate half of it and based on the poorly-made calamari and the lack of decent service, I decided to head out and find another option for dinner. Maybe they're worthy of the great reviews they have, but that clearly wasn't my experience on this visit.

    Special: seared blackened tuna
    Ellen K.

Thanks to another Yelp Elite Squad member's photos, our group of four chose Cioppino for dinner and drinks on a gorgeous Saturday night in The Strip District. They do have a fully outdoor patio area with patio furniture. My preference as direct sun is not my friend, is their bar dining area because they can open the "walls" on two sides and it's like you're outside with the refreshing breeze and open space while inside with a roof over your head. There was also live music in the corner while we dined. There is also a dining room area and cigar bar. I ordered the seared blackened tuna on special that evening which came on a bed of arugula. I skipped ordering one of their al a carte sides that are in my opinion personal sized rather than shareable. We were not given a whiskey and spirits list (I'm not sure they have one) so our waitress had to check with the bar to see if they had our preferred brand and batch. I very much enjoyed my old fashioned but my friend said his was weak. The others ordered beer. As our group is not a collective of wine drinkers, we did not take advantage of their very extensive wine by the bottle list. The ambiance and fellow diners were geared to the more established crowd enjoying good table conversation vs the young loud scene at the establishment on the other side of the block on the Smallman Street corner. It was the right spot for us and we enjoyed our experience there.

    Ask the Community - Cioppino

What is the general price range? I have been wanting to try Cioppino for a while but their website not listing prices is kind of a turn off. I don't mind pricey but I'd like to know what I'm going to be spending.

My recollection is that appetizers were $10-$15 and entrees in the $30+/- ballpark.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do! They're on Open Table too if you don't want to call.

Any thoughts as to when the Cigar Bar will reopen?

As of around 5 weeks ago it reopened for people to smoke.

I've heard so many mixed things that I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed every aspect of my experience. It kind of has dive bar vibes but the food and drink options are definitely on the elevated side. They open at 4 on Sundays and I got there around 4:15. It was already pretty busy (and by the time I was leaving, every single table and bar stool were occupied). They have standard booth seats along the windows, hightop tables in the middle and bar seating along the bar that curves along the back of the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. They don't hand you copies of the menu, you have to scan the QR code to access. It is easy to read and follow with sections for drinks, specials (this time they were Wicked themed as a nod to the show at the Benedum) and a sushi section. I ordered the street corn dip. The chips were a bit overcooked and the dip was just OK. I thought it was pricey for what you got. The star of my meal, though, was the patty melt. It had the burger, a bacon jam, caramelized onions and was absolutely delicious! It was served with fries. I considered ordering sushi but wasn't sure what to expect. The patrons sitting on either side of my ordered rolls and they were a nice size and looked delicious, so that is something I would consider ordering in the future. It was a place I'll likely be back to because of the proximity to the theater (although their prices definitely reflect that). Just note how crowded it always is and give yourself plenty of time if you plan on heading here for dinner before the show.

The five of us put our name in on the waitlist and proceeded to wait outside. I checked in not too long later and was told we were first on the list to get in. It started pouring rain and they were nice enough to let us wait in the entrance on the sides so that we didn't get soaked. They then proceeded to move us to the side of the bar where the entrance is into Tako, took our drink orders and my friend's card for the tab, and then told us that we would get our drinks and get seated shortly. We waited....then waited....then waited some more. It was not a great spot to put us since staff members kept walking from Butcher to Tako and back. We finally asked them if we could just got sit in Tako and get out drinks there since we were attending an after party there afterwards anyways. They said yes and let us go to the Tako side. After quite some time we got our drinks delivered to us at Tako and they were lazy in my opinion. I absolutely loved Apres Ski Bar and The Lost Cantina (the previous two pop up concepts there this year) so I badly wanted to love Spookeasy but it was not it for me. Pretty much all the drink were just drinks from the Lost Cantina tiki concept with a skull put in it or just a changed name. My friend and I split the Science Fiction Double Feature and it was almost unbearably sweet (although I did appreciate the popcorn container). The Purple People Eater was delightful but it was also That Purple Drink from the Lost Cantina. The Chupacabra drink was exactly the same drink, name and everything from the last concept. I also wanted to like the decor inside Spookeasy since the decor for Apres Ski Bar and The Lost Cantina were phenomenal. The decor for Spookeasy was also lazy. They kept all the Lost Cantina decor and just put skulls, spiders, and bats everywhere. Overall, Spookeasy was just not it for me. I will say it was their opening day when I went so maybe they just need more time to have more creative drinks and decor. But it felt like to me that they're just tired and the pop up bars need to stop (I'm sure it's exhausting to think of new themed drinks and decorations all the time) and it needs to go back to the regular Butcher and the Rye.
