Circle hook, wow. Me and my family are visiting here (newport beach) from the Bay Area and surprisingly this was the best seafood I've ever had. I ordered the seafood chowder, it not only had clams in it but also some shrimp and crab. I'm not a big seafood fan if I'm gonna be honest, I usually get the clam chowder to get by. Circle hook, on the other hand, definitely has the best clam chowder I have ever tasted. Even if I was a seafood fan, I would pick the chowder. My mum ordered the blue fin tuna, and it was 6 hours off the boat!!! She was also very impressed, and it tasted super good and looked very nice. The food here is awesome, and definitely has a Asian twist to some things but definitely has the freshest fish on the waterfront. And they do some amazing sauces that pair incredibly with there blue fin and yellow fin tuna's and the swordfish is ridiculous, freshest meatiest fish u will even eat. It's honestly the hottest new spot if you want fresh fish and the hidden gem is the chefs specials and u can't pass up the clams and mussels :). Anyways even after all that, I forgot to mention they serve some exotic craft beers like a sour from bottle logic, a tiki inspired ale that they mix with orange juice and serve as a beermosa wiand some crushable session ipa/ and hazy IPAs that are amazing by abnormal and the chef said there more craft beer coming to lido. I finally ate here for the first time and can't wait to go back again. The best crab cakes I've ever had. Their selection of grilled vegetables is superb and grilled to perfection. It was pretty good. I liked the mixed veggies, and the fish and chips weren't too greasy but not the best I've had either. The crab cake was kind of a let down. The view is beautiful, but I still prefer Bear Flag, Might try it again for the mussels or some of the other menu items. read more

Well, what can I say. um we had the Asian slaw salad with swordfish. the slaw was very dry and the swordfish though the seasoning and char on it was good, it too was very thin and dry. the whole meal was dry. oh, I also got a hair in my food. I showed it to the to staff all he said was "ooh" and took my plate. We waited to see if anyone would come and mention the hair but no one came. At that point 3 people asked for feedback on the salad and we gave it as helpful as we could and showed the hair. For us we won't return because of the service and I don't think they have their food figured out yet. the hair was a real turn off. read more

OMG! I absolutely love this place!! They have the best lobster bisque in all of Orange County. The lobster is actual giant chunks of deliciously fresh lobster! The broth itself is to die for. Super bummed! Went to Circle Hook in an effort to go to a new place outside of HB. My hubby got a Lobster Roll and Fries delivered 15 minutes before my food came out. He did love the fries and said the lobster roll was ok. I ordered the grilled Opah and veggies. The veggies were good but everything was cold and the Opah (fish) was not good and did not look like Opah. A guy came to clear hubby's plate while I was eating and asked how the food was. We told him the fish wasn't good and we did not think I got the right fish. He said, OK....and then...wait for it...nothing! Never came back, never dealt with the issue. Nothing. I've heard a lot about "Toss's" (?) new seafood venture. Finally had a chance to stop in last Thursday (9-6). First, walked in and really happy to see Jen Rounds working. I've known Jen from other businesses in Costa Mesa & Newport. Always a big asset to any business lucky enough to have her. I tried a couple of items from the appetizer selections, a crab cake and the ceviche. Liked the crab cake but really liked the ceviche. Small but decent selection of draft beers. Had two cold Twenty First Amendment Mexican style brews. Went well with food choices. Other food items I look forward to trying soon. And with Jen there to draw me back I'll return ASAP. read more

Fish and chips were super fresh and crispy!! Atmosphere is on point. Service is friendly and attentive. The one thing that I would change/recommend is to revamp the tartar sauce! A bomb tartar sauce really adds to fish and chips and this one was super runny and bland unfortunately. read more

Circle Hook was recommended to us by a full service restaurant in Newport Coast. We ordered 1 fish and chips and 1 lobster roll. The portion of fish was "skimpy" and the 2 small pieces of fish we got were more batter than fish. The fries were luckwarm at best. The lobster roll was on a hamburger bun because they ran out of their regular bread but the portion of lobster on the bun was "embarrassing" for the price they charged. We also got tropical iced tea and I had to ask 3 times to get packets of regular sugar. I wound up asking for refills on my tea and practically had to serve myself. Ok, I'm a difficult foodie to make happy. however I go to Bear Flag the sister restaurant to Circle Hook twice a week and I love it. So why did they open a second restaurant? I ordered Fish and Chips. I wanted the Calamari fries but they were out I expected something special. I received Fish jerky. Yep, really!! No insults meant to jerky lovers. The fish was fried until it was curled up like a Frito chips. It had more batter than fish. In fact It was so dense I figured I was eating deep-fried fish paste. The server said it's because of the beer batter that it needed to be cook well. No manager or chef insight. Imagine that! This place should be a bait shop for their boat docked out front. No second chances for you Fish Hook!!! I vote with my dollars. The servers?? Zombie alert. What's with everyone trying to take a selfies? Look at me I'm at Circle Jerky. Wtf? read more

I came with colleagues a few days ago. Two of us ordered lobster bisque. I got the crab banh mi, while my coworkers got a lobster roll and the shrimp/crab Louie. The salad lacked flavor. The banh mi had shells in every other bite. My colleague asked if the lobster roll came warm and they said yes, when it came to us cold she sent it back and they nuked it, making the bread too hard too eat. The bisque was terrible, it tasted only of cream and the small chunk of lobster floating in it was chewy. When we sent it back, we didn't want to deal with voiding the check so we asked for 2 ceviche orders. Then the ceviche came to us tasting incredibly bland and not fresh. On top of that, the lady charged us the difference. Our bill for three people was over $90. I've never been to a restaurant where they didn't give a discount or refund for an unhappy customer. And I've worked in plenty of restaurants. The lack of quality service and food left us with a literal bad taste in our mouths, which we promptly washed down with In n Out. We will not be coming back to give them another shot. read more

Went for early dinner and enjoyed our fish n chips, scallops and aioli, and lobster bisque! I chose the coconut slaw as a side and it was unique, fresh, and delicious. Food came out quickly, the cashier/waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was awesome. They'll validate your parking ticket too, if you park in the structure.
