So very sad.... After many years of history with this joint, it might be over. (A decade or maybe even much longer). At first we all loved it. The quality of fish was unmatched. Always the freshest. Then many years later the quality went down before Covid. I gave it another try during Covid, and I was surprised to find it was good again. So happily I started going back. Fast-forward, I think this love affair is officially over. At my last visit my miso soup had absolutely no flavor. It tasted like just some miso dropped in hot water without any bouillon (dashi). Imagine a bowl of salty hot water that's just light brown with some garnish. I actually could not eat it. The sushi was underwhelming. The nigiri did not have the presence they used to. Their maki were soooooooooooooo tiny with barely any rice. Yes, I like my maki to be a bite size, but I expect it to be well balanced between fish and rice. It just looked like they are cutting corners with a lot of items. It's hard to mess up miso soup at restaurants with what's available commercially, yet there it was. FOOD & DRINK: They offer different sushi rolls and other Japanese izakaya eats. I tasted the following: *Super Crazy Spicy Salmon Roll ($12): Comes with salmon and avocado. Thought they tasted standard, but at the price point I can't complain much about it. *Agedashi Tofu ($5): Hmm. The bread doesn't fall off of the tofu when cutting into it, and the sauce around it tastes fantastic. I would order this anyway. *Gyoza ($5): Pan fried well. Standard. II. SERVICE: The food came out in less than ten minutes, and all the staff members there wore a smile. No complaints here. III. AMBIANCE & DECOR: A bit dark for me, but I have no issues with the place. As many Yelpers have already mentioned in their reviews, Circle Sushi is hard to find. Therefore, I've taken a picture of the entrance in broad daylight so everyone can see exactly what it looks like. Well, there is a sign, but it's printed in thin type on the dark-tinted glass. Just search behind the Arby's and you'll find it. My return visit to Circle was for lunch. They've got a lot of great lunch specials here which I took advantage of. These specials also apply during lunch on the weekends and during Happy Hour (Monday-Thursday, 5:30-6:30pm). These deals include teriyaki, noodles (udon and soba -- no ramen, unfortunately), bento boxes, salads, sashimi and donburi (rice bowls), and sushi rolls and nigiri. Most of the lunch/Happy Hour menu items start just under or around $10 each and come with miso soup or salad. Here's what I tried: Chirashi Lunch B ($18) - rice bowl with a selection of premium sashimi on top Nabe Yaki Udon ($11) with shrimp & vegetable tempura + California roll ($2) I highly recommend both. The difference between Chirashi Lunch B and Chirashi Lunch A is $6 ($18 vs. $12). The sushi chef selects higher grade fish for Chirashi B. I wanted to see what kind of fish the chef would select for B and I was very pleased with the selection. Along with "standard" sushi like tuna, salmon, tako (octopus), tamago (sweet egg), the Chirashi bowl also included white tuna, flounder, uni (sea urchin), and toro (fatty tuna belly). Aside from fish and lightly seasoned/vinegared sushi rice, the bowl also included ginger, wasabi, and shredded radish. All of the sashimi was fresh and the bowl was incredibly delicious. One of the best bowls of Chirashi I've ever had. The Nabe Yaki Udon was a great value. I was surprised how big the bowl of noodles was plus it came with a plate of tempura. "Nabe" is like a hot pot in Japanese cooking, so Nabe Yaki Udon is essentially hot pot udon. Ingredients in the Nabe Yaki Udon included egg, fish cake, mushroom, spinach, and chopped scallion. Like the Chirashi, the udon presentation was outstanding. The bowl was served with the broth still bubbling. The noodles were thick and slightly chewy. Appetizing consistency. I could tell the tempura was freshly made. The batter was light and extra flaky. The vegetable tempura included asparagus. The tempura tasted great whether eaten alone or with the noodle soup. One thing I like to add to my noodles, whether it be ramen, udon, or soba, is the Japanese red chili flakes known as Shichimi Togarashi. Along with red pepper, this seasoning contains roasted orange peel, yellow & black sesame seed, Japanese pepper (sansho), seaweed, and ginger. Definitely try some on your noodles! The additional California roll was cut into 8 pieces. The California roll contains imitation crab, avocado, and cucumber. I'm not a huge fan of rolls (I prefer nigiri), but this one was OK. Both the miso soup and salad were good. The salad was nicer than the average "free" side salad. It contained crisp mixed greens, shredded red cabbage and carrots, chopped tomato, and was topped with Japanese ginger dressing. Service continues to be great here. The dishes come out fast and the servers are attentive. You wouldn't be able to tell from it's non-descript exterior, but Circle Sushi is a subtly trendy sushi restaurant. I love the Chirashi Sushi here. And the best time to get it - well in Frugal Foodie's opinion - is during lunch or happy hour where you can get the "Chirashi Sushi A" for $12. (They also have a "B" option for $18 which I'm guessing has upgraded sushi.) I've been more than happy w/ "A" which incl. nice size pieces of salmon, tuna, flounder, seared tuna, Tamagoyaki (egg), salmon roe and grilled eel (nice surprise hidden inside the rice) ... oh and another unexpected surprise, fried shrimp! Their sushi rice is very good too. You also get a choice of salad or miso soup - I've always gotten the salad (dressing just ok) and they do a great job packing a lot of greens in that bowl :) Writing this review is making me crave Chirashi Sushi right now! Lunch specials are available Mon-Fri 11:30-2:30 and happy hour is 5:30-6:30. The menu selection and lunch specials are quite extensive. They're fine about splitting checks - but you'll need to go to the front to pay. FYI they still have poor signage - i.e., no signage above the restaurant; just a red logo on their tinted window. My girlfriend and I came here for her birthday dinner and enjoyed a nice meal with impeccable service. After hearing all the rave reviews about this place, I was very excited to dine here. I was greeted by a bubbly hostess and server who really made me feel welcome. The atmosphere is wide open seating with bright lighting, very different than what I imagined this place to be, but perhaps the sushi steals the show. Upon arriving on a Tuesday, more than half of the restaurant was filled with patrons, so they must be doing something right. We shared a bottle of sparkling blueberry sake and it was very delicious and the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Their menu is huge and I had trouble deciding what to order, but finally settled on the Super Crunchy Shrimp roll and the Volcano roll, two of the easiest, most American rolls that are extremely hard to mess up. I really, really loved the super crunchy shrimp roll--it was just the right size and delicious! As far as the volcano roll, this was extremely disappointing. It arrived at my table an unappetizing white color with slightly charred sections, and as I began to pick up a piece, I noticed the roll beneath the mess was soaking in a pool of grease. I couldn't bring myself to finish more than two pieces. Perhaps I made the wrong choice with this roll, but I can't believe the contrast in the quality of my two choices. At the end of our meal, the server brought out a cake I purchased for my friend, with candles lit and all. The servers were so nice we even shared our cake with them and they were extremely appreciative. I have been dying to come to Circle Sushi ever since my friend mentioned this restaurant to be comparable to Hayakawa. Intrigued, we finally made a lunch out of it after church on Sunday. The location is a little hard to find, the store front just shows "Sushi" but explore a little, you will find it if you're smart enough! (Just kidding). Park anywhere in the large shared parking lot. Lunch was rumored to be cheaper than dinner and boy it is cheaper by a long shot. $12 for a lunch chirashi A, or a slightly more pricey $18 chirashi B that includes a bit more expensive fish like fatty tuna. I went all out and tried the Chirashi B. By the way, hot tea costs extra. I was slightly disappointed to see that that. Also, slightly disappointed to see that the Chirashi B did not have uni as I saw in pictures on yelp. I believe it may only come with the $30 Chirashi on the dinner menu, which unfortunately makes too much sense. However, there are some great staples on the Chirashi, including scallop, toro, salmon, tomago, ikura, tako, and a few others I'm not able to identify. Also, underneath the sweet sushi rice, I was surprised to find unagi at the bottom of the bowl! What a delicious surprise! The scallop was sweet and fresh and the toro melts in your mouth. I did a poor job of proportioning the sushi rice to the sashimi, but I didn't care, the sashimi was too good on its own. There were other specials I noticed on the lunch menu, where two rolls would add up to $9-13. What a deal! The rolls were kind of small, but others at the table noted that's the size at dinner when the special pricing isn't available. A huge hit was the candy in the candy bowl at the cash register. The Japanese candies are unique and different than the usual mints and toothpicks you find at other restaurants. Give them a try! I will definitely be back here. I recommend either the Chirashi A (at lunch for $12, it is a STEAL) or one of the rolls specials. The Chirashi B didn't seem to be as worth it for the extra $6. The $30 Chirashi on the dinner intimidates me, but one day I would like to try their uni. Circle Sushi is not Hayakawa, but I definitely can say with confidence that it is a solid second. I was looking for a sushi place between Marietta and Cummings and after reading numerous glowing reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Fist off, impossible to find. Sign out front says "Sushi". That's all. In a strip mall shared with multiple other businesses that's advertising suicide. The restaurant itself is clean but very cold inside and they "don't have the control of AC". Huh? So you'd rather everyone freezes to death even though it's a lovely 80 degrees out? This wasn't just me complaining either. On to the menu. Most of rolls are fried, "crunchy", or have tempura in the description. Not sure about the rest, but if I want sushi, I want it raw. -su·shi noun a Japanese dish consisting of small balls or rolls of vinegar-flavored cold cooked rice served with a garnish of RAW fish, vegetables, or egg.- Sashimi selection is basic, nothing new or exciting I haven't tried. They did have uni and it was actually very fresh. I ordered a roll with halibut inside and scallop on top, raw per my request (it comes cooked otherwise). Roll was very small. I'm used to a heftier size. They also don't do brown rice, which is my "must". For sashimi I got salmon, ikura, and uni. All fresh but underwhelming. Our server Erica was very sweet, polite, and knowledgeable. They don't have full liquor licence either, beer and wine only. Overall opinion.. Maybe it's a good spot for the area but I'd rather drive 20 min out of the way to get incredible sushi rather than dealing with mediocrity while freezing to death. read more

This place has the best bento box. I've been here twice and since I'm preggo, I can't have any raw sushi but the bento boxes are so yummy. My boyfriend always orders a ton of nigiri and says their fish is fresh and really good. The first time we came, we were a bit taken back since the outside looks really crappy and there is just a sign that says Sushi. BUT plenty of parking since it's next to a Publix. Once you get inside, it's a different story. Menu has a lot of items to choose from. The only downside is service isn't that great. The first time I went, we sat for a good 15 mins before anyone came to our table (we almost got up and left). But our server was awesome and gave us a free appetizer and extra sushi pieces to compensate. The second time we went, our bill was incorrect and we were charged extra but they fixed the problem when we told them. I have to admit that I made the mistake of ordering shumai the first time at this sushi restaurant. I was a newb and therefore wasn't too impressed. I was more adventurous and wise the second time. Uni. So fresh and creamy with so many flavors! I will always get this when I come back. Spicy magic monster. Was initially skeptical about this until I bit into it. Ooh, the various different fish gushed out. Tuna carpaccio. Thinly sliced (so it doesn't look like tongue) with some kind of sweet soy (?) sauce. I think the star was the sauce and the tuna was the utensil for which I soaked up that sauce. Hamachi aka "fish cheek". It's very tender and falls off the bone easily. It tastes best with the soy (or fish?) sauce provided. I like the skin a lot. It's a bit chewy but very flavorful and had a good salty aftertaste. Omakase. Fish as selected by the chef. I thought this was an interesting way to sample different fish. Most of them were really good (thick, flavorful). Some of them might have been better as garnish? They were cut up into small little pieces aka thick strands. I'm glad I got to try it. The experience was great! I will probably try a new experience the next time. Our server was great in multi-tasking with other tables. She provided us enough attention to answer questions and cater to our specific needs. I'm rounding this to 4 stars. read more

I nearly didn't go in because it's so unassuming from the front. That would have been a huge mistake. Best sushi I have had in a very long time, and the best I've found in the area. This is the perfect fusion of the freshness and attention to detail that I love about sushi in Japan and the American sushi roll recipes. For people accustomed to "typical" US sushi, these rolls are smaller, but the fish is delicious lunch fresh, the rice perfect, the pickled ginger tender and not too strongly flavored. The food is always wonderful but the customer service needs work. I came in this evening to pick up a to-go order. I waited at the front desk patiently for about five minutes for someone to acknowledge me. I understand it can get busy there at times. Another woman came in after me and was standing behind me. The waitress immediately came and greeted her, got her name for her order, and brought her large order of food without acknowledging that I was in front of her standing at the front desk. Finally, she acknowledged me and I stated I was also there to pick up a to-go order. The waitress asked me to step to the side so she could ring up the other woman first. I didn't feel the need to correct her and I didn't want to make a scene, so I just waited until a different waitress came to bring me my food which had already been ready as well. If there is more than one person waiting in line, I think it would be beneficial and kind to politely ask who was there first, while still acknowledging the other customers. It just felt a bit discriminatory. I also want to make a note that, this woman was NOT the usual hostess who wears her hair in a ponytail, with glasses, and answers the phones/takes orders. A true "hole in the wall," Circle Sushi is one of the best sushi spots in town! You'll find it tucked into a nondescript strip mall north on Roswell Road, overshadowed by a Publix and a bunch of name-brand restaurants and retail shops. Don't be fooled by a lack of advertising or signage - this one is worth the hunt. While there's tons of parking, the restaurant space is small to middling in size, with only a handful of larger party tables. There are plenty of four tops and small couples' tables available, as well as a handful of sushi counter barstools. The menu is quite large, comprised mostly of sushi and sashimi (obvious guess from the name, right?), but with some donburi, udon, and teriyaki options as well. We split quite a few apps and rolls to get a good feel for the menu and were really pleased with everything we got. As far as appetizers go, my favorite was the Ahi Poke Tower. The mixed nuts had a nice crunch that complemented the tuna texture, and I am a sucker for anything with avocado in it! We both agreed the best roll of those we tried was the White Eel Roll (BBQ eel, avocado, and egg omelet maki topped with seared white tuna - WOW). Will definitely be back!! read more

So I guess fair is fair. But it was a good bite size bowl. Presentation of the chirashi bowl was neat and pretty. The pricing was good for its size. This place is a hidden gem. I live in midtown, but a group of my friends make the drive up here once every couple of months because there is no better place in Atlanta for sushi. I think the sushi here speaks for itself. There are a ton of great options. Everything down to the rice and sauce is paid meticulous attention to. So I'll spend most of my review mentioning other highlights. I get the Hamachi Kama every time I come here. It the collar of yellowtail fish, and it is unbelievably juicy, fatty, and meaty. This place cooks it to perfection and gets the skin nice and crispy. They provide lemon and some sort of sauce to optionally put on the fish, but I usually pass on the sauce because I enjoy the flavor of the fish so much on its own. The sashimi here is always fresh and they have a lot of options. I would recommend the blue fin tuna. This can be difficult to come across elsewhere, and they have different cuts from the tuna for varying levels of lean vs fatty meat. I love it. Other stuff on the menu is definitely worth checking out. They have some solid fried chicken, pork chop, vegetable, and pot sticker options. This is the best Japanese restaurant I've been able to find since I've moved to Atlanta. The place is authentic-- two of the workers, who I think are the owners, speak Japanese fluently (so I'm going to guess they are Japanese). I went with my aunt here twice, who grew up in Japan, and she loves the place. You know they're really Japanese when they have a washlet in the restroom. The sushi is very good and fresh- I had the yellowtail sashimi. I also had the nabiyaki udon, which is one of my favorites, and is done pretty well here. Presentation was nice, staff was very friendly and polite! I appreciated that they included sweet bean on top of my green tea ice cream for dessert! A few understand downsides: Some of the dinner entrees are a little pricey, so I would suggest going for lunch rather than dinner. I was also surprised how busy the place was for a Sunday night when I went. We had to wait a little while to be seated because the servers were all swamped. read more

My friend and I ordered a large tempura, black cod (one of the chef's specials), sashimi sampler plate and a toro sampler plate. Everything we ordered was about $10-$15. I really enjoyed the cod and the sashimi. The cod was super tender and flavorful. The meat just falls apart when you poke at it and melts in your mouth. The sashimi was really fresh and came in pretty large pieces. The sashimi sampler had 9 pieces and the toro sampler came in 3. The cool thing about the toro sampler is they give you 3 kinds of toro from the normal fat toro to the fattiest toro. We also ended up getting the pudding ("purin") for dessert which was alright. This is our weekend spot for good reason. We are regulars here. The outside might look like that shady sushi spot next to a gas station but that is just a front. The inside is quiet nice for a mom and pop shop. The service and food is amazing. The raw fish is one of the freshest we had in Atlanta. I must say, that was good. It's easy to miss this spot, but I would encourage you to look extra hard for it. This seems like a place that puts their emphasis on their sushi without cluttering the menu with too many non-sushi distractions. And the sushi is really, very good. I was reminded of the pure, traditional sushi experience that got me to fall in love with sushi so many years ago. The lunch menu has many options on it. Lots of different combinations and choices. I asked if they could make me a futomaki (which is not actually listed on the lunch menu). They asked me which variety (veg or traditional), and I was somewhat impressed by this.
