Casual. Not sloppy or you're going to the beach, casual though. Most people seem to go after work...so they're dressed pretty decent but casual.

There's a fundraiser I'm attending, are kids allowed before a certain time?

Can I wear a hat there?

Yes but baseball caps are not allowed for the night club which starts at 10 pm on Friday and Saturday.

I have never had to call the sheriffs for any reason. I have never seen I fight at Cities while I am there. I go there for an early dinner and enjoy the food. When I go to Cities I usually leave by 6:30 PM.

This place is also nestled in the heart of the Arts district next to other bars that know their personality and go spheres-out to claim. Guilty pleasure? A reason to go out. Yes and then some. The place was immediately recognizable by its hot pink door. The door promised a portal and it delivered. In fact, as I was waiting to order my drink, I heard customers behind me analyze the drama as sports fan analyze a game. And they were ciomparing different seasons. Apparently season six made the guy behind him feel uncomfortable because it was too freak. Either that season or this season had toe sucking. So there was history in this game that led to fan reactions and follow up insight. They were invovled fans. And this was the congregation for involved fans. The draw for me was that you are able to cook your own steak! Wow, so much fun. There are all kinds of spices and rubs to put on your steak and then its grill time. A complete dinner is available, served with a large baked potato, 2 pieces of garlic toast and little salad bar. I found the drinks to be well priced and the service was excellent. The bartender gave me crap for ordering girly drinks, but it was all in good fun. Oh and Friday they had some awesome Karaoke going on. I will 100% be back at The Venice Room.

The service has also been great here each time I've come, both in a large party (10+ people) and in a small group. We ordered SO much food, mainly to try more things, and also because my eyes are perpetually bigger than my stomach. That's fine though! Even the leftovers were delicious as heck. - Cornbread--absolutely smothered in butter and honey, crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside with great jalapeño flavor. Saw some lady on social media say this was gross and dry... surely that was rage bait? - Bread--got both the jam and butter which were both amazing as it came with two types of warm bread that was perfectly crusty and soft. However, given the amount of butter overall in this meal, it wouldn't be a loss to skip. - Peaches--came with farmer's cheese, which is like a creamy, drier version of cottage cheese, that paired really well with the sweet juicy peaches, basil, and fresh lemon dressing. Summer on a plate. - Carolina gold rice--never had this dish before, it's like shrimp n grits met porridge, rich snd hearty with plenty of shrimp flavor from the shrimp butter. - Mushroom-crusted pork chop--easily usurped my previous favorite pork chop from Chez Maggy in Denver, and is now my favorite pork chop :) - Ribeye with bone marrow--also one of the best steaks from a restaurant we've had. My husband's gotten to the point where he doesn't like ordering steaks (usually I'm the offender) because they're usually not very good even from "steakhouses", but this ribeye was great. Perfect crust, perfect med-rare cook, lots of flavor, tender and delicious. Bonus was the bone marrow I saved half of for my spoiled dog. - Sticky date pudding--I think I confused this with a sticky toffee pudding although it's very similar and equally tasty as heck. Don't skip this! Typically I have to be borderline blackmailed into eating all my leftovers but there was no arm-twisting for Dunsmoor's. Street parking unless you valet. There's a line by opening for walk-ins, and apparently a separate line for reservations on the other side of the door.

It was airy and crunchy and so satisfying. (Next time, I'd order a pizza and keep the extra honey from the focaccia to drizzle on top!!) The hangar steak was a bit of a let down. It also low-key made me feel like I was dying back in New Orleans when I was sitting on the second floor balcony area overlooking the street. The service here is friendly and attentive as well. There's definitely a great sense of hospitality here. A small group of us came here in a week night so we were able to get seated pretty much right away. Well, at least after a little time that we were able to spend at the bar. I started off with a martini. It was delicious as well. And the bar is really nice. When we got seated, we were seated out on the balcony, which I really enjoyed. It felt like I was really dining on one of those balconies in New Orleans. We ordered couple of skewers - beef kofta and maitake. We also got and a couple starters/sides - the whipped feta, vadouvan cauliflower, and sticky Japanese sweet potato. And for a main, we got the chicken schnitzel. Everything was well presented and full of flavor. I don't think I disliked any of the dishes. Maybe I'm easy to please but seriously everything was really good and well prepared. I wanna go back and try some more mains like the branzino. Just a wonderful dining experience overall. And if you're looking for a nice dinner that won't break the bank and has a great vibe, this is the spot.

So yes, I spend a lot of time here. Before this summer I had stopped by a few times with girlfriends...mostly on the weekends for some drinks and dancing. We always had a great time! Once the Summer rolled around I started coming by a lot more often to avoid the horrible heat in my apartment (really convenient because it's so close to work), not only for drinks, but for dinner and for the club on the weekends. Everything I have had to eat here at lunch and dinner, has been great! Some of my favorites are the mussels, crab cakes, Kobe sliders, and the king crab tostadas (Sadly, not a permanent option on the menu. Chef Tolosa has daily specials.)...just to name a few. No beer on tap, but their beer selection is good. The Micheladas are the best!The bartenders and staff are awesome! Cities is strict on their dress code, on the weekends, for the club. Why do you want to go out in a lounge/club atmosphere, wearing tennis shoes or flip flops? This is not a dive bar, so if that's what your expecting, you won't like it. In regards to the music, the dj plays a little bit of everything. I've been to a few places in downtown and I can honestly say that my friends and I always enjoy our time at Cities. Its been just under two years since I last went to this place... obviously for negative reasons. So i took out a dear friend who has never been to this part of town, and some family. The ambiance of Cities is nice. so I took a shot hoping something had change. So in short, the Fettuccine dish and the steak with the Romascu sauce wasn't too bad, At least one gnat was flying around the Chardonnay?! mmm and the table was wobbly - I did the paper fold thing and tucked it under one of the legs. HINT: If your waiter/waitress has to explain why the table is wobbly, your already in the negative . But on a positive note our waitress was fairly new, but good. attentive. made our evening dining a bit nice. read more

Surprisingly a different look and change for a restaurant in East L.A. (in a good way)! The valet parking is also a nice touch, but a few issues with the dress code which I rarely have an issue with. Strict dress code is very understandable especially for a nice establishment and its location... But no trendy shoes or hats? The doorman was nice enough to let the shoes slide (good thing we had blazers on), but not the hats. Coat check, nice deko, and size was a surprise and nice. Didn't notice the top lounge till later. The crowd and ambiance not to bad, but can be cleaned up. Music was good early, but a bit to much techno later on in the night which killed the mood. Nice friday spot for a change. read more

This review is for the Saturday night club.I was very disappointed and will not be going back. Their customer service is just horrible. Getting the person who's in charge of bottle service to call you back is a joke. Sure enough our section wasn't reserved. I was hoping from some of the other reviews that this place would be strict on dress code and not let in gangsters, but I was wrong. The music selection was horrible. Mostly techno music all night. Management wasn't any help at all. Oscar (the manager) needs better people and communication skills & not be so rude. It's different and a nice place for East L.A. First time decided to come here for lunch. They don't open for lunch. I thought it was a resturant? Second time, I was invited for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. Free parking. The area is not safest. My vehicle got broken into in a near by parking lot that is used for customers for that bar.Service inside was slow with ok drinks. A lot more places to go to in LA I would rather go to. read more

It's true about this place being strict at the door, but I'll take that over letting in ghetto rift raft anytime. Coats (coat check inside) and dress shoes and we had no problem getting in. To my surprise the women here are nice. Good looking place with a downtown feel to it. Drinks are good and so was our waitress. As long as they keep it strict and clean I'm definitely coming back on fridays. read more

Cities Bar And Lounge have supreme food and beverage. There's a large array of alcohol to select and enjoy from, while their food menu is full of original and interesting dishes. Everything I tasted was good. This is an upscale place in an area usually not associated with these type of bars and restaurants. You've gotta check it out, you won't be disappointed. I needed to entertain an out of town guest. Went to a local bar with a bunk band. Was recommended to try cities for the rest of our night. We arrived at 1200, hit the bar (fully loaded, with friendly quick staff) hit the dancefloor and danced the whole night away. The dj was perfect, his transitions were flawless. There is a rat bartender Steve that added a $50 tip to the bill. I'm not the first to complain of this type of behavior, but $50 extra for a tip is criminal. The prices are more downtown LA than LA. I will not be going back and have explained the situation to my friends asking them to verify their bills should they go. read more

Our vendor hosted an event here and it was spectacular! The view was unbeatable from the lounge AND the Cities Restaurant. Service was great and the food was good. Jaime make the best Mojito and we truly enjoyed the whole experience! read more
