Citizen Yogurt really sets itself apart from all the others. As another reviewer said, it's like froyo for grownups! The decor is very tasteful and classy. Whoever decorated it has consistently good taste. I especially like the amzing wall plantings and the aquarium. Of course the yogurt is delicious too. They have a nice mixture of traditional flavors and exotic ones. I like that they post suggested flavor and toppings combinations. I've become very fond of the chocolate yogurt with chili powder topping. Can't remember the clever name for it, but it is good! Also very clever is their Citizenship Card. It is designed to look like a Social Security Card and gets you one free yogurt (up to $6) after the purchase of eight servings. For anyone who is a dog lover, you should definitely visit. Nice photographs of cute doggies are prominently displayed, and on hot summer days, your canine companion will surely apreciate a few laps of water from the water bowls provided in their outdoor seating area. My revisit to citizen yogurt TERRIBLE!!! Today I had the unwanted pleasure of meeting the owner this time. The kids put the cups on the scale with LESS yogurt and LESS toppings. Somehow the total is more than my visit yesterday with three cups! Speechless at time I also had another yelp deal. Upon me using the deal I show him the code and he takes the phone from me. I standing there looking like this ish is crazy. I had to ask for my phone back with some extra bass in my voice. I won't be going back to citizen yogurt. On customer service, this place deserves maybe one star, at best. First, the positive and the reason for upping the rating to two stars: they have the most selection of toppings I have ever experienced, almost so that one could forego the fro-yo and pig out on candies, cookies, fruits, and syrups. It is akin to visiting Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Now, onto the downside and what, after multiple attempts, has turned me off and is preventing me from being a patron. Ask anyone, and they will tell you I love to sample so I get what I want and do not waste. I also love incentives to save money. Since they had a frequent customer punch card (buy 10 get one free), I took advantage. Not being a big person, I usually only got about $2-$2.50 of yogurt. Sorry, I just can't spend $5-6 and not eat it all. After a few visits, the owners(?) did not greet me, yet I heard them greet others. I laid back a while and then tried again. This time (no greeting), I asked for sample cups to try the new flavors since my last visit. The lady working said in a scurrilous manner, "Samples for new customers only." I simply said, "thank you" and took my business elsewhere. One last attempt...after receiving a coupon for a free yogurt, I thought, I will give it another round. Walking in, I simply perused the flavors, retrieved my cup, and pumped what I wanted. (Two of the flavors were a runny soup and no help was offered to rectify, so I chose other flavors.) When I went to the register, she said my total and I offered my coupon. She looked at it, the front, the back, said nothing, took scissors and cut off the coupon portion. (I hadn't cut it because it had no store name or address on it.) At no point, did she confirm that I was paid nor did she make eye contact. As I walked out the store, the other lady, who I had never seen before, said, "thank you." I did appreciate her respect and, if she ever opens her own fro-yo store, will be a happy customer. In the meantime, I have thrown away my punchcard and will continue to visit my other fro-yo favorites like Menchies, Yo-pop, and Yogurt Land. read more

I always look at yelp reviews to find good spots but I hardly post reviews myself, however after tonight I decided I had to! I've been coming to citizen yogurt for awhile now primarily for their bubble teas because the lychee one is my favorite and there aren't many places in town who make bubble teas so I'm so glad I found them! Citizen yogurt is awesome because the variety of options you can get, and I'm not even talking about the toppings yet! Not only do they have my favorite bubble tea but they also have frozen yogurt (of course) but also homemade citizen pops which are all natural and so juicy!! I had the pleasure of eating one of these fruit pops and they are truly excellent. I had it at the NC Museum Amphitheater where the Lake Street Dive was performing. Very warm out and these pops are refreshing, you can taste the fruit, and the sweetness is not the experience at all yet used in a thoughtful and healthy way. The location is in an odd spot in my opinion, but the owners are really friendly and helpful. They're a great place for fundraisers and helping the community. I've only been to a few different frozen yogurt places, but comparing them to Citizen Yogurt is kind of strange. The frozen yogurt here has a different texture on some flavors, and it doesn't seem to melt much, which is pretty strange. I've always seen frozen yogurt melt at a decent pace. I don't really mind too much, it's just strange and makes me wonder why it doesn't melt like normal. The flavors here are okay, the site has a lot of flavors listed but the store didn't have them all yet. The topping selection is good. The customer service is good. The decor is okay. I do think that Citizen Yogurt will improve over time, but currently has a few minor issues to deal with. Update (08/19/2013): I've been here a few times since then, and they have certainly improved over time. My favorite froyo place in Raleigh currently. read more

This place is amazing. I can't count the number of times I've been here. They have the best tasting original/ tart flavor in Raleigh. They also have the most toppings to choose from and have some of my favorites including nerds and soft chewy mochi. I like that it is a dog-friendly place and they have special treats for dogs. I think that the flavors that they have are very high quality. I have not had anything at Citizen Yogurt that tasted weirdly artificial. I can't say that is true of all of the FroYo shops. I've only had their green tea bubble tea but it's really good; not a fake watered down taste. They offer two choices of bubble Tea: an iced version or a smoothie version. I've only gotten the iced bubble tea. The location is a little random in a strip mall next to a hair cut place and the inside is oddly decorated and feels a bit empty. I've never seen other customers here when I've come. Not sure if I'd ever get a drink and stay to chat here since it feels so empty but it's good for a take out drink. read more

I've tried Citizen pops before off their cart and was blown away. The combinations of flavors like balsamic strawberry or avocado lime are just so perfectly tart and sweet, but not overly so. It helps that the pops have no artificial flavors or coloring, everything is made of just fruit. So I've been craving the avocado pop and decided to make a trip to the store. The store is pretty basic, looks just like a regular frozen yogurt shop, nothing special. There were the usual frozen yogurt flavors: tart, mango, dark chocolate, cookie batter, etc. There weren't any fruit toppings left, we figured because it was an hour before closing. I ordered me an avocado pop (perfect as usual) and a bubble tea. The girl at the counter was super helpful and friendly, definitely a fellow bubble tea lover, she offered me extra bubbles that I couldn't turn down. I ordered the taro flavor based on her recommendation and was not disappointed. So creamy and light, and the bubbles were just right! Even though it was very late in the day they were perfectly chewy and fresh (yes, I can tell when bubbles are old. Can ruin your bubble tea experience). There were definitely a lot of them too, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Boyfriend got some frozen yogurt: dark chocolate and cookie batter. I thought it was just ok, especially due to lack of fruit. Hence one less star. Oh, and during cold months you must try their hot chocolate. Thick and creamy, served with a giant toasted marshmallow, it's definitely the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Can't wait to get it again, but for now will enjoy the avocado pops. read more

This was the first time I've tried Citizen Yogurt. There's not a lot of places around here that you can get a bubble smoothie. I had a strawberry one. It was pretty good. I did ask for extra bubbles, and only got a few. But it was a good quality smoothie and the owner was friendly. I didn't try the yogurt, so I will definitely be back to do that. This place is great!!!!! Everything in the store is clean, delicious, fresh, and perfect for outings with friends. Not to mention affordable. We noticed this place pop up across the street from us recently and decided to stop in tonight to take advantage of their Grand Opening BOGO special. We had enjoyed Menchie's the couple of times we went there and this is pretty much the same format, so what the hey, right? This place is a THOUSAND times better than Menchie's, or any other yogurt shop we've been to! The first thing I noticed when walking up was that they had bowls out front by the patio tables for dogs. That automatically put them in my good graces! Come to find out, they're 100% dog friendly, inside and out! The inside of the place is well lit, clean, inviting and smells great! We were immediately greeted by the girl behind the counter who was very friendly and offered sample cups to try the different flavors. I opted for my usual standby flavors, cake batter, homemade vanilla and Georgia peach (I get these flavors at most places, but these names are specific to this shop) and was amazed at what I got! The cake batter was rich and creamy and tasted like cake batter! The homemade vanilla actually tasted like homemade vanilla ice cream like my grandmother used to make! The Georgia peach actually tasted like fresh peaches! I was so impressed after about 4 or 5 bites that I had to go back inside (we were on the front patio area) and speak to the manager about how pleased I was! He informed me that they are a totally local business, not a franchise and then it all made sense! That was why it was so good! They aren't bound by franchise regulations to purchase a national product and can therefore select a BETTER product on their own! The selection of flavors rotates regularly, the selection of toppings is staggering (offering everything from chocolate syrup to Pop-Tarts) and the frozen yogurt is the best I've had in my entire life! If you are in Raleigh, forget going to any of the other yogurt shops around, this one is the real deal! Support our local economy, buy local and get a better product! Found one of their carts at the Farmers market and loved the interesting flavor combinations. Avocado lime and Strawberry balsamic were two we tried and we loved both of them. The Avocado lime was dairy free yet had a great creaminess due to the natural avocado oils and fats. read more

I decided to take my 2 sons and myself to get frozen yogurt. We all 3 walk in and I ask if we can have some sample comes. The lady working (who was extremely rude) handed us 1 sample cup. I looked at her thinking she was going to give us more and she said "what?". I said I asked for sample cups for us 3 are we supposed to share. She handed me 2 more very rudely. Enjoyed the blueberry cardamom popsicle and the variety of frozen sorbet and yogurt flavors. There was something more interesting about their original tart .. Maybe more substance or thickness. Nice fro yo shop. A little more laid back and homie feel than the more commercial sweet frog and menchies chains. Good selection of overall especially on the toppings as others have stated (try the homemade marshmallows). Cashier was friendly but think some more help would have been good. I wanted to try the bubble tea as I have never had. It took about 10 min to get and my family had finished there bowls before finally getting. I am not sure how it is made or if it is made here as it came with a sealed top (ordered chocolate almond). I tasted like a warm really chocolate milk. Not sure if I will try again.
