I ordered over $200+ of catering for a family reunion. I ordered pulled chicken and pulled brisket, and was told it would come with buns to make sandwiches and also pickles when I ordered it. There were no buns to make sandwiches and no pickles included with my order. It was very awkward knowing I ordered a large amount of food, and we couldn't even eat it as intended. The food was good, but am very disappointed I spent all that money and they couldn't even include the buns to make sandwiches. I did double check, and the buns are included on the menu online. Seriously good BBQ and that's coming from a Texan where we're proud and of and demand good brisket. Bark and smoke ring are the real deal and so is the flavor. Do yourself a favor and try the turkey, too! It is moist, succulent, and tender -- just excellent. The sides are very good and the desserts must be homemade. I can't rate all the locations, but the staff and Patrick, the Manager, at the Rangeline Road location in Carmel are friendly, going above and beyond that makes the experience even more enjoyable. We were more than halfway through eating the meal when we finally asked again about the remaining items. Finally by the time they came with the items we were basically done. We've been here a few times. Food is amazing. Staff has overall been nice and friendly. We've had the brisket, brisket sandwich, turkey, french fries, baked beans - terrific. Salad with chipotle ranch was good too. Was not a huge fan of getting desserts here until I tried the chocolate cake, then I was hooked. And then I tried the cherry cobbler. I really like going to City Barbecue. I spend more time at the one in Avon, but this is the one near my house and I love that we can just hop in for dinner. If there is a line it's always a quick one and it gives me time to decide what to get. I tend to stick with the puller pork, but I do think about the beef brisket, which is also pretty amazing! I ask for lean brisket. I like when my husband gets the turkey, because then I can steal a piece. The dinner portion is always enough for dinner and then I take the leftover for lunch! I don't think the turkey tastes as good the next day so that's why I stick with the pork. I am a huge fan of their fries. They make them fresh and bring them to you! I love adding vinegar and a little salt and they are perfect and HOT! I also really like the sweet potato casserole which is seasonal. So get it while you can! The corn pudding is also very good. They have so many options and it's not much to add 2 sides to your main entree choice. A major reason I like this location is they have an outdoor seating area! I like to sit out there on nice days and just enjoy our meal. The people who work here are always great! I like going somewhere where the staff is nice and always busy working, but not too busy to come check on your meal. Make sure to get the app on your phone and even if you forget to scan it at checkout you can just scan your receipt bar code and instantly get the points! Monday is double points day. read more

Love this place! I came across it in downtown Indy when trying to get some chipotle, but the location wasn't open yet. I'm from the south, so i hadn't had Barbeque since moving here and figured I'd try this place out. I've been obsessed ever since. The pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and baked beans is the perfect lunch or dinner. Swine wine is my go to sauce with a little bit of the original. Luckily there's a location in fishers, so i go way too often. The $5 app discount is nice, but the app has a LOT of kinks that need to be worked out. We were visiting family in the area and looking for a lunch spot. My husband has celiac disease, so sometimes it can be a challenge to find a place to accommodate him. City Barbecue is fabulous for that. Almost all of the items on the menu are gluten free (including sauces). He had beef brisket, baked beans, and potato salad, all gluten free. This place has a great selection of meats, sides and desserts! Hubby had side of ribs, I had brisket. Ribs had fair amount of meat ( not a whole lot of fat, good quality!) and my brisket was excellent. The smoke was amazing and the bark was really good. The sauces are varied, sweet was our favorite. We did not try the Brush fire as we were in love with the Sweet sauce! The hush puppies made my Louisiana husband swoon! Fries were on point! The food is delicious, but I will not return to this location due to the terrible service we encountered. In the end, our order was not filled until about 30 min. past the time requested an hour and 20 min. ahead. I ordered ahead, but the order was not ready when we arrived. We entered the store to find a growing queue of call-in and online orders and very slow moving staff. The team did not have food ready and was asking patrons to make alternate choices. After cooking a HUGE batch of fries for us (we had placed a big order), they then found our order partially ready on the counter. They are not prepared for call-ahead or online ordering, and the workflow and preparation space need improvement. What made the entire experience worse was attitude of the staff - they just kept plodding along, slowly and inefficiently, and didn't seem to care the queue of people was growing. When you spend over $100 on PRE-ORDERED food and are asked to make an alternate selection for food that is not ready, the team should offer a coupon, gift card or throw in some free sides for the inconvenience. Customer after customer was asked to make alternate side choices while we waited and waited. I will not return to the Carmel location and recommend others avoid it as well. We dined in at the City BBQ location in Carmel IN several times and we found their food and service to be good, and reasonably priced. We were satisfied with our experience. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, many restaurants closed but continued to offer pickup or curbside service. This is where we ran into a problem with City BBQ. On two consecutive online orders, we got home and found that an item was missing, even though it was clearly on the register slip, and we had payed for them. It wasn't practical to go back to City BBQ to get the missing items, so we accepted that they were missing, even though we had payed for them. Since this happened twice, on consecutive orders, we are putting City BBQ "on hold" indefinitely, and ordering our curbside food elsewhere. read more

Love the place, the fries are good and the beef brisket is the best ever with more than expected portions on the briskets and the fries. Everything else is OK and smaller in portions that one desire, especially the mac and cheese and other sides where they are served in super mini containers. Wish the lines were shorter at lunch time. It is ridiculous to stand up in a restaurant line for 20 minutes just to place an order and another 20 minutes to get the order ready. Need more people working in lunch time. The solution is to order online and then pick up whenever you like, this is a great option and I love it. In and out in 5 minutes "although they don't get the fries ready until you check in". The lunch combo is the way to go. LoLo's pulled pork sandwich has slaw on it and combined with the house BBQ sauce, you've got a good meal on your hands. I'm not a HUGE fan of the mac and cheese, but I always find myself getting it, so at some point, I guess I have to admit defeat and say I enjoy it. However, the STAR...the absolute standout at City Barbecue is the banana pudding. I don't even know how to adequately give it the justice it deserves. The manager said they revamped it recently and although I don't know how it was beforehand, I can vouch for it now. There's caramel and homemade whipped cream and cinnamon mixed with the graham crackers and I could go on and on. My wife and daughter and I tried this place today. Their cup says best bbq in the US. Idk who is the judge of that but they are not the best. That title goes to voodoo bbq down in Florida with a vinegar bbq. However they are the second best to me and the best above all around this area that I have tried. We tried the sampler and the ribs were great without any bbq sauce added. So you know they were still great when you added the bbq to em. But if it ain't broke don't fix it I say. The brisket was sliced thin but very tender. Probably the most tender brisket I've ever had. My wife had the chicken that came with it so I cant say anything about that because idk. Believe it or not and I'm sure it's a cheap powder mix but I really loved their cornbread . My daughter who is a French fry fanatic, wasn't real impressed with their fries but I thought they were good. I'm pretty sure it all gets fried in the same grease. And the hush puppies were also decent. ( not a hush puppy fan) the pulled pork was very dry but for flavor was excellent. And the green beans with bacon (I think it's pork belly) didn't taste cheap like I thought they would by their appearance. Looks like green beans back in the lunch room when I went to school as a kid. And the fried pickles were addictive but at the same time a little too dill tasting . Lemonade needs work. Haha kind of bitter with a tang . For the bbq sauces . The peach habanero was my favorite . I was so surprised at how much the peach flavor stood out and then a little kick in the mouth from the heat came behind it. The bourbon flavor tasted kind of like they were in a hurry and threw stuff together wasn't a fan. The original was good obviously. There was one I can't remember the name it was like brushfire or something idk anyway it reminded me of burning leafs in the fall and getting caught down wind in the smoke . That musky scratchy taste . That's what it reminded me of . I gorged myself today and was miserable on the drive home. So yes I enjoyed their food. The layout was very inviting just go in order set down and wait for them to call what you ordered out loud. My wife loves the rustic setting type places . Very homey in there . And for 52$ we all got full and had to get 2 take home boxes and we tried chocolate cake and peach cobbler . Not too shabby I'll come back next time we get back to Indianapolis. Amazing bbq joint!! The brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken was great and had some amazing savory and smoky flavor!! The texas toast had some great flavor and crispness!! The Mac and cheese was really good and cheesy, to make it even better I added some sliced up brisket and drizzle some of there bushfire bbq sauce ( if you like spicy sauces you need to try the bushfire bbq sauce ) on it!! The fries were seasoned well and crispy!! Also if you like tea and lemonade they had a really good homemade sweet/unsweetened tea and lemonade!! Nothing impressive or authentic about this business and their slop. The employees you hire make the restaurant. Carmel City BBQ is garbage. Don't be fooled by the faux "open kitchen". The kitchen staff produces messy, rushed and dirty food. The cashiers are 12 years old. The hosts, food runners/FOH staff are untrained, underpaid and uneducated to deal with common issues in a restaurant. The AGM & GM are under qualified and play an insignificant role at City BBQ Carmel. The entire business cuts corners in food quality and safety for small margins of profit. Set aside the "freshness" or integrity of the food. Chity Barbecue needs to get out of Carmel's local food farmers market scene and go back to the west coast with endless migrant cooks to meet the standards here. Yuck stay away. read more

City Barbeque in Carmel has decent food, decent service, and a decent atmosphere, yet, for me, nothing pushes it about A-OK to better than that. Partly because I find their food to be just a bit hit and miss. Hits: The pulled pork is amazing, as are the ribs. The beans are well above average, and those fries....they make my mouth water. Big time. Misses: The brisket. It's dry and bland. It just doesn't do it for me. Ditto for the chicken. It's just...OK. Nothing special. This is about as good as barbecue gets in Indianapolis. Even though this is a chain, the food gives even G.T. South's a run for their money. All the meats are excellent, moist and flavorful with a nice smoky flavor. My favorite is the brisket, but pulled pork is also especially good. The sides and sauces are also very good. The place seems to be frequently busy so allow a little extra time if you want lunch or are otherwise on a schedule. If you eat inside it can get loud but not overwhelming. First, if you are from BBQ meccas like Texas, Memphis, etc., you really won't be impressed. I lived in Texas for three years and this place can't compare with the BBQ places there like Salt Lick, Rudy's, etc. Let's just get that out of the way. You're in Indiana and not Texas, so a Texas BBQ place is not a viable alternative to City Barbeque in Carmel, Indiana any more than the Bolshoi or La Scala are viable alternatives to ISO or Palladium in Indiana. Having said that, this place is pretty good, especially compared to the alternatives in metro Indy, almost all of which I have tried. We had the smoked pork ribs, brisket, and sausage, and all were pretty good for Indiana. There are three different sauces from sweet to original to spicy. The spicy would be the mild in Texas. The sausage is pretty good as well, but spiciness is definitely dialed down from what you might find in Texas. Overall this is one of the better BBQ places in metro Indy. read more

Yes, the BBQ is pretty good, and the hushpuppies are pretty good too. Not a fan of the sauces in the squeeze bottles on the tables and the noise level of the restaurant though. The flow of the restaurant seems odd. You order at the register then find your table and wait for them to shout out your name to come grab your food from the counter. Kind of odd... Also, all of the sqeeze bottles with sauces in them at our table were sticky and left your hands feeling gross. And of course the one I like kept getting a clog in it. Sort of annoying. Also odd to me is that they serve their sandwiches on a piece of parchment/waxed paper. No plate or cardboard tray or anything. Found this weird. This bbq joint is overpriced garbage. Pull the membrane off the underside of the ribs. This way, smoke can fully penetrate the ribs. Ditch the 16 year old front of house staff.
