I just had the best brisket I have ever had in my life! We ordered the brisket tacos and a side of baked beans. Amazing! My husband ordered brisket, Mac and cheese, and cheese and bacon fries. Dropping a star off. It's been a while since my review and I've gone back to City BBQ at least 3 more times. Things have slightly gotten worse since my initial visit. We have now resorted to calling our order in as the wait times can be pretty scary. There have been a couple times where we've called in, only to hear that they aren't taking phone orders at the moment. WHAT? Business is business, but they're forcing people to stand in line now? Other times, I've been told the wait is 45min-1hr...okay, better than telling me that I HAVE to wait in line. In the beginning, when we took our first take-out order home, they gave ample amount of barbecue sauce...now they give just a few ketchup sized containers, which isn't enough for 2 people and a deluxe sampler. I always end up having to go back to the sauce bar and filling an extra container or two of sauce. Once, our food seemed like it had been out for a while. It was also a day where they weren't as busy as others...but still, weird. It was only for one visit though, so I won't say their food has gotten worse. So far, (other than that one visit), the food has been on point. I'll keep visiting, but now the hubby and I call at least an hour before we actually feel like eating and I automatically make a bee-line for the barbecue sauce bar before leaving. read more

The food and service are great. Though this isn't the best BBQ I've had ever. It is definitely among the top for it's pretty convenient location and the price. The Pit is my number one, but it's a bit of a distance away. I definitely recommend this BBQ area for your BBQ fix. A little overdue, but we had a group of us dine here in early January. We were able to try the various meats before ordering. I know everyone enjoyed their meals, but I will only rate mine. When I return, if I get the same positive experience I will upgrade this to a 5. I ordered the pulled pork, but ended up with brisket. Most likely due to someone in my party taking my meat, but I am so glad they did! It broke apart nicely, but was very moist. Our family came back again for a second time. This time everything was much better!!!! 1) Portion size is much bigger if you eat in it appears on the Deluxe City Sampler. 2) We ordered extra Turkey and it was amazing. The brisket wasn't dry at all and was nice and moist. The ribs were phenomenal! 3) The Mac and cheese was still processed tasting however this time it was much creamier! 4)We loved the atmosphere of eating in. We ate our food family style and shared. Really good barbecue. I work across the street and have visited this place twice now. The pulled pork and the brisket are quite tasty. The sauces are really good. The sides are very good. And the hush puppies are above average. I am an avid BBQ connoisseur, and while this isn't the best place in the triangle, it is very good and probably the best in Cary. We were really looking forward to trying this place. Unfortunately, it was such a let down. My husband and I shared the sampler that had a sausage, turkey, bbq and brisket. Also, came with texas toast and we got hush puppies and pot salad. All the food was cold first off. We should have taken it back but our baby was sleeping and so we were trying to hurry. The turkey was dry and the bbq was bland. I enjoyed the taste of the brisket. I'm not a Bbq expert but just didn't feel that anything was more than barely average. This place was great! While the inside was full they had really nice outdoor seating (covered and with outdoor heaters for colder nights). The food was great and if you're a first timer it's worth your time to download their app for $5 off your first order. Their selection of BBQ sauces was impressive and I encourage everyone to at least try one flavor that's out of their comfort zone. I tried the apple one and really liked it. I had a pulled pork sandwich with creamy slaw and fried okra as my sides. I loved it all (besides for the okra, which was a little disappointing as I did not like the batter). And even though the place was packed we got our food within minutes! The staff was friendly and the atmosphere great. For anyone with gluten intolerance (such as my boyfriend who has Celiac's) it is noteworthy to mention that all of their meat and sauces are GF. I'd say that about 1/2 of their sides are GF too, so that's just another added bonus. read more

Coming from California, my favorite (and my hubby's favorite) BBQ place was out there. For the past 3 years of me living in NC we've been searching for a BBQ joint that at least is ALMOST as good. Well, we finally found a place that's just as good! The green beans, Cole slaw, baked beans and the potato salad especially were DELICIOUS! The beef brisket was so flavorful and tender. And the ribs... No adjective is worthy enough of being used to describe them, they were that good. The owner is such a nice guy, and his employees are so kind and attentive. Best BBQ in Cary worth a drive across Raleigh. The good... their smoked turkey is pretty amazing. I mean better than their pulled pork. Ribs are also solid. Do NOT order the new Chipotle rub pork. Dried to a crisp. I literally could not eat it and their mac and cheese is fake. Like made of velvetta I think. and to me mac and cheese is so critical to a southern BBQ restaurant that it cost them a star in my rating. If they move to a mac. N cheese ... baked... like my mother used to make they might move one day to be unstoppable. So right now they are close to The Pitt in downtown Raleigh flavor wise but not there yet. Oh and they need to add fried okra to the menu... fresh okra not frozen. No one touches The Pitts orka. I would like to see these guys try. One last suggestion. .... they have taken on the all to familiar theme of BBQ and blues music. But it is lip service nod to blues music. They play it over the speakers but they need to have a live band on weekends at a minimum on the patio. Then I'll believe they really mean it. Owner needs to visit Fat Matts in Atlanta on piedmont Ave ..... blues band every night at 830pm 360+ days a year and literally the best BBQ on this God's Earth.... at Fat Matts. Not here. The best bbq in town by far. The attention to detail in the smoking of the meats..the consistency of the flavors and tenderness..I can always count on City BBQ to deliver a scrumptious meal. Thought you could never find a bbq place that has equally good brisket, ribs, and chicken? Well stop the train here..the brisket melts in your mouth and is juicy and smoky; the ribs are fairly large and cooked to perfection (try mixing the brushfire and sweet sauce for a perfect glaze); and the chicken is roasted/smoked with this incredible marinade that makes you want to eat all the succulent skin...and did I mention the sides? My favorites are the potato salad, corn pudding (think casserole), and gumbo. The mac and cheese isnt baked but very cheesy. My first visit to City Barbeque today in Cary, NC. Had the best cashier, Jerome, who suggested the pulled chicken on Texas Toast and it was finger licking good Because I could not decide on a sauce I got some containers and tried all the ones available. The Sweet one was my favorite Jerome was working the floor by time I finished and asked me how my meal was and which sauce was my favorite, I told him and he came back with a bottle for me to take back to DC and let them know where I had the best BBQ in NC. The staff were friendly and greeted us with a smile. You walk up to the counter where you order your food from a huge displayed menu on the wall. Once your name has been taken and your order has been placed, you make your way around the counter where you can pick up your utensils, drinks, and sauces!!! There are a lot of sauces to choose from but my favorite was the City Sweet. Although, I tried the Bourbon (2nd fav), original BBQ, and Montreal! Then let's talk BBQ. I chose the Pick Two Meats and chose the pulled pork and brisket and two sides (fries and corn pudding). And, OMG!!! It was amazing. The meat was unbelievably tender and the spices were magical. The brisket is worthy of the award winning status. The sauce was really just an added bonus because it did not need it. The smoky flavor shined through and through! This is BBQ done right!!!! We shared a full slab of ribs with mac n cheese, greens, green beans, fresh cut fries.Honestly, the ribs are too dry. We could tell it was premade and reheated. While we like the seasoning on the ribs, we would enjoyed it more if they weren't so dry! I understand most places do their ribs a night before but somehow, the reheating process dries it out. It makes the meat very tough and dry. (Coming from Memphis, TN, I'm used to ribs from Rendezvous or Corky's ) I love the mac n cheese and the greens. Traditional and rich in flavor! From the beginning of your visit you will notice a very friendly waitstaff -- which is indicative of a great a place to work which means they probably treat their employees well -- ordering is easy with their large easy to read and understand menu, you can specify which part of the brisket you want, the wait times on the food are fast and the atmosphere in the dining area are clean and enjoyable. Some good barbecue to be had here. I got there with some friends late, and they were out of brisket and pork. I was a little bummed, but we got some smoked sausage and chicken instead. Both were great, and the sides (green beans, potato salad, collard greens) were all excellent. Close to the most expensive BBQ brisket I've ever had but when it's cooked perfectly and the quality of the meat is this high, perhaps it's worth the extra expense. Brisket, okra and Brunswick stew was a great combination. Stew portion was a little small. Otherwise this was fantastic! Fried okra is amazing! And you should try all their sauces.
