This location catered my wedding back in August and I still have family and friends rave about the food and how amazing the staff was. Stopped by while we were on a trip for a late lunch/early dinner and when the man at the cash register found out it was our first time there he was very helpful in explaining the menu and even gave us our drinks for free! Our food was fast to be called and it was absolutely delicious! Cooked to perfection. The corn pudding was more like corn bread but it was still very good. Tried City BBQ in Garner once again to see if Brisket was any better on this trip. There is nothing about the Brisket at this restaurant that resembles good preparation. The meat was had an almost Jello-like consistency for most of the portion. What I am expecting are good clean cuts with a non-mealy texture with smoke rings and good color. SOOOO GOOD!!! All I wanted was pulled pork but the hubby made me get the 2 meat platter with brisket. So glad he did because that brisket was by far the best we ever had. We visited a couple of weeks ago and brought our 5 month old along. There was a bit of a line when we arrived ( you order at the counter) but it moved fast and gave us a couple minutes to decide what to order. We ended up getting the meat sampler with brisket, sausage, turkey, pork and chicken. For sides we ordered the Mac and cheese, green beans, baked beans and creamy coleslaw. Everything was delicious! I am glad we got the sampler ( plenty of food for two by the way) as it allowed us to try a little of everything. My favorite was the brisket. They have a variety of bbq sauces from hot to sweet to vinegar style. All were very tasty. The staff could not have been more friendly! They were quick to set up a baby sling for us and very attentive to customers in general. Overall a much welcome addition to White Oak. We will definitely be back soon! read more

The meal I just had was incredible. If it all possible I suggest ordering all the sides family-style. Baked beans potato salad slaw and hush puppies in addition to whatever meat you prefer. (This from someone who doesn't even like baked beans or potato salad!) It doesn't matter which meat you like the most they're all incredible. All meats are smoked many many hours with TLC and the chicken is even anabiotic free and free range. Who does that? City. My workouts may or may not be planned with my next visit in mind. My bf and I are new to the area and we wanted to try city barbeque. The place smelled amazing and although the wait was 1 hour we decided to hang outside and have a drink. The cashier told us to check in 45 min for a status update. Right at 45 min, a waitress came outside and yelled our name. She slammed our food down and told us that we should have waited inside because they had been calling our name for awhile. Not only were we shocked out how rude and short she was but we had asked for our food to go and she had forgotten a side. When I went inside to get the hush puppies and ask for to-go containers she rolled her eyes and shooed me towards the bags but no boxes... so we ended up having to put our food straight into bags and had to wrap stuff in napkins and stuff it in so we could take it home. We liked the food but sadly we were treated so poorly that we will not be returning because we felt so harassed. read more

I went to City Barbecue and I am thinking of the sandwich I had even now that it is 4 days later. I got the special, which was a Chipotle rib sandwich. MY GOSH! It was delicious! And it wasn't just one sandwich. It was two. And it came with 2 sides. I wish it were a regular item on the menu. It was more than I could actually eat, so I took a bunch of it home. I got corn pudding and baked beans as sides, and they were wonderful too. My daughter had the chicken tenders (I took a bite) and they were perfect. I don't have a bad thing to say about this place. We got there at 11am on a Sat. and it already was pretty busy. I can't imagine how it would be right at Noon. read more

I have visited this location to feed my roommates quite a few times with the family of four meal consisting of pulled pork barbecue, corn bread, green beans, & macaroni. There are a few different barbeque sauces to choose from and the ambiance is pretty OK, but the outside seating is nicer in my opinion. Usually always stick with take out. I think the pulled pork here is good but this place isn't the most top notch on taste. Next up to try for me is Brew n Que in Cary! I'm interested too see how they compare. If I could give a 10 star, I would. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. This was my only daughter's wedding, and to think of a barbecue was difficult from the beginning. But when we met Lynn and her team, we were convinced they would do a great job. Lynn was amazing in the Cary division, and provided professional and responsive services. From the minute she got there, she was smiling and courteous, offering any type of help to the nervous family and Bride. She worked so hard, and was drenched by the time the evening was over. She still smiled and provided us all of the leftovers neatly packed in containers for us to take home, including a special package for the Briding and groom. Their prices were very reasonable and offered a variety of options. The ice tea was a little questionable, but that was the only thing that wasn't perfect. Stopped in for some texas style bbq-aka brisket with good bbq sauce. Did not leave disappointed. The brisket sandwich was really good and if I am basing it off chain style brisket sandwiches, I would rank a Dickey's brisket sandwich a 5 and this one an 8.5. Love the different sauces, especially the wildfire sauce. My favorite part, was the hospitality by the serving and wait staff. Y'all are great. Will definitely return. read more

I had the pleasure of having lunch here yesterday with some family. We were in town for Thanksgiving. Everything was absolutely perfect. There was a man that greeted us as soon as we walked in and asked if this was our first time there and we told him it was, he let us sample whatever we wanted as he wanted out first experience there to be good. Sadly this was the worst BBQ that I have ever eaten. Stopped here while passing through town and wanted to try it. Ordered their brisket and they proceeded to pour some kind of sauce over it which they called their "Au Du Jour" sauce. Even though we objected and said we didn't want it poured on it they proceeded to do so and said that we would want it or the brisket would be dry. Brisket should NEVER be dry unless it isn't cooked and stored properly, so that was an immediate red flag. It was tough which was unfortunate, but the real travesty is that I tasted a strong vinegar flavor in the brisket. I don't know if the vinegar was from the sauce they poured on it or not, but brisket should never be paired with vinegar. It was the absolute worst brisket I have ever attempted to eat. We were on the road and I didn't have time to go back and complain, so I threw most of it in the trash. Also had the coleslaw and it was just as bad as the brisket. Please listen to your customers next time and when they tell you not to sauce a plate, don't do it. Very disappointed. read more

Probably the worst BBQ I've had in NC, which sucks because this place is closest to my apartment. We got the deluxe sampler and added some turkey to it as a side order. This place is very expensive in my opinion for BBQ, especially where are much better places within a 15-20 min drive for half the price. The pork, chicken, and turkey were all dry and not very good. The brisket was especially bad, super fatty and gummy without the fat rendering down much at all. Ended up throwing most of the brisket out. The mac and cheese and baked beans were awful and not very good respectively. The Texas Toast was actually really good though, and the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1 is the ribs. The ribs were pretty good, and one of the better ones I've had since moving here, probably behind only Cooper's and The Pit. In short, I doubt I will ever be back unless I really want ribs sometime. Couldn't believe how busy the place was though for it being so overpriced and bland/terrible on most of the options. read more
