My second meal, the brisket was dry and tough, previous trip it was moist and juicy. I think I got reheated product from the day before. I have tried to be a customer at this so called City Barbeque. I thought they actually had a barbeque pit to cook the meat, but they dont. I clearly saw a cook take out a rack of ribs that was that was already cooked, vacuum sealed in plastic. The cook then put the rack of ribs on a stove to warm it. Oh my! We went to City Barbecue yesterday and it's now my favorite barbecue restaurant. We had the Judge's Sampler with ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and brisket. Each meat was tender, juicy, and barbecued to perfection with the smoke throughout the meat and large pieces of bark which were oh so yummy. The portions were generous. There's a good variety of sauces to choose from too. The cornbread was wonderful, as was the coleslaw. We thought the baked beans were a bit heavy on the dark sauce though. It became very crowded while we were there, a sign its popularity has exploded in the month or so it has been open. I'm so glad this barbecue restaurant is close by. First time I passed and saw it was finally open. You order at counter, so it's a nice place for lunch by yourself. Limited options, but very similar to most BBQ only places. I got the lunch special of pulled chicken with two sides (beans and mac n cheese). The portion for a lunch size was very large for a good price. They have lots of BBQ sauces. I chose original and sweet. I'm a fan of sweet baby rays, and this was less sweet than that but still good. I can't handle spice so I didn't try the others. It's clean inside and staff was friendly. Our office eats at the City BBQ in Decatur periodically during the year. I made the mistake of ordering via the online app rather than going through the line. I then told the person preparing the food that I had done so and that I was already there waiting. As is usually the case at this location, the person handing out the food is surly and seems annoyed in general. I know they are busy but a smile and helpful attitude goes a long way in terms of customer service. They then proceeded to prepare food for everyone that came in after me and who had ordered well after I did. I had to wait close to an hour to get my food. When I finally received my Turkey sandwich, the turkey was dry and unappetizing. Usually it is moist and has been quite good in the past. Be warned, do not order using the online app unless you plan to arrive much later to pick up your food! You will be placed at the back of the line and receive your food only after a long wait. read more

I ordered the Mac and cheese, corn pudding and sweet potato casserole. The peach cobbler was also delicious and the pint was plenty to last several days. Ok, it's really like 3.8 stars, but That is not an option and I don't round. It is pretty dang good. I split a double meat plate (pulled pork and pulled chicken) with a friend, which included 2 sides (we chose baked Mac n cheese and collards) and we added 2 large drinks, $27. For a walk-up counter order place, that is wayyyyy too expensive. The pork was incredible! Nicely smoked. Very flavorful. The edges were black but not burnt. The chicken was a waste of time. It tasted like it had been boiled in salt water. No smoke flavor of any kind. It was not pink, smoke colored. Just plain white, wet, salty. The baked Mac n cheese (recommended by the order taker, as opposed to the stove top option) was quite good. . Better than most, very cheddary. It used corkscrew pasta, rather than traditional elbow pasta. The collards were mighty tasty. Tender, cooked with pork. They do love the salt at this establishment, so be sure to take your blood pressure medicine. The sweet tea was traditional southern sweet tea: fresh with equal parts water and sugar. I cut mine with the unsweet. What irked me the most I think, didn't have anything to do with the food. It was that for $27 (for ultimately one dish) i not only had to clear my own table, I had to bus it: put my tray in one stack, dump my plates, put them in another pile and put my silverware in a wash bucket. Recycle was yet another option (not sure what would be recyclable here? Bottles? Used paper napkins? Leftover food for homeless animals?) So, if you have lots of money to spend on over priced bbq, get the pork and you won't be disappointed. read more

This review is strictly based off customer service. I am writing this as I am still inside the establishment. This is my first time in City BBQ and when we arrived the man working the register had absolutely NO customer service skills. He immediately told us it was a 2hr wait in food and the ladies making the food said not it's 30 mins, then the man repeated that it was 2hrs and they ladies again said no 30 mins. So then the guy left, don't know where he went didn't say excuse me a moment or anything, so we didn't know if he was gonna take our order or not. Then about 3 or 4 mind later her comes back answers the phone and discusses food ordering with the person on the phone while we are still standing there. FINALLY he gets off the phone and takes our order. His attitude was horrible as if we the customer was bothering him on a job he applied for. After placing the order we went to sit and wait. I was so irritated by his lack or customer service skills during our ordering process that I called City BBQ and asked for the manager while inside. I explained what happened and he apologized and asked about our order, hopefully he will make it up somehow we are still waiting on our food. The only reason I am giving it 3*s is b/c the manager was nice and apologized and took the guy off the register, which I was good. However I have been watching him handle customers that come in about their online orders and his customer service skills are still horrible. He just doesn't need to speak with customers at all, especially during high volume days, b/c I don't think he knows how to handle the pressure. I just hope the food is as good as my friend claim it is and the customer service is not a reflection on how the food will taste. UPDATE: Now since eating the food I can say it was really good. I ordered the smokehouse salad with smoke turkey and it was delicious! I had the apple cider vinegarette, however when I got home I put a little bit of bbq sauce in the dressing and mixed it and made a bbq sauce vinegarette..lol It was really good. Be mindful that when you go here if you want bbq sauce for your food you have to ask for it which I think is crazy. They should ask you if you want it and what kind, but if you don't ask you won't get any which is crazy being they are a BBQ spot‍. I also ordered the peach cobbler. If you are anything like me you like a real cobbler with the crust that is at 5he top and bottom. However they make their peach cobbler with like a biscuit crust... I'm not to find of it and they gave me a lot of that crust. I was so disappointed b/c I love peach cobbler. I ate it but it's nothing to rave about. My review still stands at 3*s b/c after all we want through last night with the customer service being a 1 when we walked in to talking the the manager and eating the food I could only go up 2 stars so a 3 stands for me for now. Have always enjoyed the food here. Has been my family's "go to" for BBQ for a few years now. The issue that I've had recently was with the service, specifically takeout. The last 2 times I ordered I had it delivered through DoorDash. Both times there were numerous items missing (ordering for a small group of 4). Called the restaurant and they implied that DoorDash was responsible. Ordered takeout this evening and picked it up myself (live in Stone Mountain so it's not too far, but would have gladly paid extra for delivery if I had confidence that the order would be correct). I am trying to give this place a good review, and unfortunately they keep giving me a reasons to lower my score. This is the second time that I have been to this restaurant (I live very close to this location). First, let me start off by saying that the food quality is great! The service is where I feel that this restaurant could use some work. The first time we tried this restaurant was on Veteran's Day shortly after they opened. We arrived and yes they were busy, but they had run out of ribs. (how do you run out of your main dish? On the way out the door I was asked if I was a veteran (Yes) and then they gave me a coupon god for a free meal (that day only). Thanks! Now this visit was a recent one (02/19) and again they were out of ribs! We decided to give them another chance and ordered other items, and when we got the food to our table it was cold to the touch! To make matters even worse, when I took it back to the counter to ask for the correction, the cook uttered a profanity under his breathe in disgust (I actually heard him as I was standing feet from him. It was my first time going and the vibe was really off with the owner and workers. It did not made me feel welcome especially being a new customer. First thing I noticed was the food was extremely overpriced for what it was worth. The sides (baked beans were not cooked and very spicy, and the collard greens disgusting like they came out of the can.) The ribs were basic. Ventured out on these Covid streets to do a pickup order of BBQ. They had a good carryout business, but the food was lukewarm. I got the ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and brisket. I hate to even review restaurants in these times because of the hurdles EVERYONE is going through. I was able to reheat the food and it was good. The mac n cheese was cheesy. The collard greens were good. I did ask for spicy and mild sauce and only got one. I'm assuming it was mild. Would never recommend this place. It looks new a nice but the service is trash. I was one of the 12 other people waiting for 20 minutes to get my food. Then they gave me a bag with half of the sides I ordered, and none of my 4 sandwiches. The staff is a bunch a kids who could care less about their jobs and not a single one of them wanted to make eye contact with me. Very insulting. Would recommend a QT brisket sandwich before going here. The food here is pretty good but service during the covid era sucks. Every time I've placed an online order I've had to wait past my "order ready by" time. Today was ridiculous. Online order said it would be ready by 6:30. My food wasn't ready until 7 and all the manager said was "well the online system doesn't recognize how busy we are". Well Sherlock, that's not my problem. That's for the restaurant to coordinate with the system so customers know when to come for their food. Was in Atlanta area for a shopping trip with friends and had never been to City barbecue but it was close and someone recommended it at a store we were at. It was absoulutely the best barbecue and the sides are also fabulous!! The lady that helped us was so nice, and gave us a sample of the turkey and brisket to try because we couldn't decide what to get!! All delicious and so tender it was hard to decide!
