Mac and cheese
Mike V.

Stopped by city BBQ to pick up a pound of pulled pork. It has become a bit of a tradition over the last 5 years to make Brunswick stew on New Years Eve, and City BBQ has become our go to spot to get the pulled pork from. Staff is always friendly, and quick to get orders out. They are open 7 days a week, sell meat by pound and have fair pricing. On top of that, their food, and sides are always delicious. Stopping in on New Year's Eve day, it was a very quiet, so they were quick to help me and quick to get my order out. The cashier was friendly, and when ringing me up, noticed I still had birthday reward on my account, and asked if I wanted to add it. I came in for a pound of pulled pork , and left with the pork and a bonus apple cobbler! As far as BBQ, although it's a chain, City BBQ is probably my favorite BBQ spot in the area. I'm not big on Lexington style BBQ, so discovering City BBQ was a great find. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for good BBQ

Pretty good grub. The Mac n cheese was great and gooey. I ordered the bama pulled chicken sandwich. Ample amount of chicken, the type of bama sauce threw me off a little. I've had Alabama White Sauce multiple times before. Sandwich was still good though. Only thing, a better check of the pulled meat. I had a 2-3 inch bone in my sandwich when I was chewing my food. My son said the brisket was pretty good and the slices were thick.

The 3 meat trio gave me a choice of several good meats to choose from. Everything is good so I finally chose the turkey, brisket and chicken. They all had Awesome flavor. I selected the green beans with meat and the delicious corn bread as my sides. It was all just Good! I was served with a smile. They let you taste items too. I was so impressed and happy.

The BBQ was on point. We had it all. The smoked wings and the brisket were our favorites, but honestly it was all very good. The service was excellent! The restaurant was clean and seating was comfortable. Highly recommend City BBQ.

I love this place. The barbecue is excellent. All the choices of different sauces. Makes it easy to fit. Individual taste french fries for good mac & cheese was delicious. I in fact I don't think I've had any side dishes there. I did not like. The brisket was to die for and I really liked the chicken.

Brisket Chili.

We stopped by for a couple bowls of Brisket Chili. Very tasty! We received top notch customer service from Rian. This was our first visit to this location and we're very satisfied. Clean restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We'll be back!

I was excited to try the brisket chili! Well, flavor is great! BUT, I had 1 piece of brisket in the whole bowl!!! It was a bowl! NOT a cup! Geez! Also, not many beans either. It was more like a soup that didn't come with crackers or cornbread. My husband purchased a "side" cornbread for $3+ which is crazy expensive in my opinion. I was very disappointed. I guess I have high standards that "chili" is going to be thick and hearty. For the price I would go for a sandwich next time where I know it will have enough protein on it. Thankfully my husband shared a slice of his turkey with me and it was very good. Service was quick and courteous. Space is adequate to sit down and dine. I like the outdoor space when the weather is nice. Overall I will return but skip the "chili."

Having spent a good amount of time in the Lone Star state of Texas, I've been exposed to some amazing BBQ Texas-style. City BBQ kinda reminds me of some BBQ places I'd eat at in Fort Worth or down towards Waco. Good smoke and good meats. I'm not going to downvote them for it being hot inside, hey Texas gets hot, you just deal with it. You come to a place like this for pork burnt ends, for BBQ chicken, for smoked turkey breasts. And City BBQ delivers. Bring your hand fan if it's summer and you are heat sensitive :) I highly recommend it! YMMV

Today was my first in-store experience! I had previously tried their food via catering when I had another job located right around the corner from this one. I really liked the interior of the store and thought it was quite impressive; they had numerous interesting decorations that made the space unique. Today, I got the Texas-style hot dog, which was more of a smoked sausage with slaw. I liked it; I wasn't particularly hungry today due to the extreme heat, and this was nice and reasonably light. The slaw gave the dog a nice crunch and freshness. The sausage had an excellent smoked and pork flavor, and it was done, as the casing had a nice crunch when I bit into it. I also got the fried okra, which was a bit disappointing, as it wasn't super crispy, even though it looked like it should be. Other than that, everything was fine. I didn't really try the sauce, because I didn't get a menu item that needed sauce. I will be coming back and trying something else next time!

Chicken nachos and strawberry cobbler
Dub H.

Not the greatest City BBQ franchise out there. They do have smokers with wood onsite, some of their locations get their BBQ from centralized kitchens or other restaurants so that means they actually have a real pitmaster on site. The BBQ is just average as far as BBQ goes...I like to think of this place as the fast food of BBQ...kind of like a Panera, just a bit more upscale than other fast food restaurants but not as good as a locally owned unique restaurant. Their chicken nachos were pathetic....it was mostly chips and sauce, very little toppings almost no meat. They did not hit the spot. The strawberry cobbler was huge and a lot of food and decent, but it was more of some type of moist cake versus a real cobbler. I like the fact that the restaurant uses reusable plates and dishes but the cobbler comes in a thick one-time-use plastic container which is a shame. Service was a bit slow for a restaurant that was at maybe 25% capacity.

After a long day of travel we just wanted to grab something quick and get back to the hotel. BBQ seemed like a good choice. Well, at City BBQ good quickly turned into great. You walk in and order, then get your drink and find a seat until your food is ready. The interior was cute and clean. The cashier who took our order was very friendly and helpful. We decided to split a 2 meat, 2 sides and garlic bread sampler. The portions were large and the garlic toast was huge. The $15.99 price was very reasonable especially considering it was enough for 2. The brisket was good, but the pork was fabulous and SO moist. Some of the best I've ever had. The green beans and corn pudding were excellent. I'd definitely eat here again.

I ordered a family meal (4-6 ppl) for carryout on Valentine's Day. Sliced brisket, pulled pork, mac n cheese, and brisket beans. I added a qt of banana pudding. I picked up my ordered to notice individual serving sized banana puddings, not a qt. When I arrived home, it turns out the banana puddings have caramel as an ingredient. No where on the website nor my order did it indicate caramel. My family didn't mind, however, if you are going to substitute an item, it should have been brought to my attention at time of pickup (write on receipt or bag as a reminder). The mac n cheese was unusually salty, not sure if the cheese or a heavy hand with the salt shaker is to blame. Everything else was as expected.

Entrées followed in a reasonable time, no real issue there. Sammy G's has been in High Point for years and offers a wide menu with a little bit of everything. They also bring out little yeast rolls that are pretty good and they were warm when served. We started with the thin cut onion rings. My husband said "less than spectacular," and that sums it up. Some were sliced so thin you mostly tasted breading, and they were a bit greasy. I would skip these. He ordered the fish sandwich with Brussels sprouts (premium side with a small upcharge). The sandwich was okay, nothing special. The Brussels sprouts were good, nicely cooked with solid flavor. I had the Fratellis salad with greens, cranberries, feta, mozzarella, Granny Smith apples, and candied pecans, and added sirloin for an upcharge. They forgot the steak at first, but brought it out shortly after in a separate bowl. Not a big deal. The sirloin was cooked medium as requested, a little red inside and tender enough to cut easily. It had good flavor. I chose the apple cider vinaigrette, which worked well with the salad. I also ordered the chef's selection soup, which was supposed to be lobster bisque. If there was any lobster, it was microscopic. The flavor was slightly bitter and just not good. I asked for it to be taken off the bill. Service handled everything well, including the mistake with the steak and the soup. Atmosphere is casual tavern style, relaxed and easy for a weekday lunch. Must order: Fratellis salad with sirloin and apple cider vinaigrette (yummy), Brussels sprouts Heads up: Skip the thin cut onion rings and don't expect much from the bisque. Other soups, I've had here in the past have been great though.

They have games, pool tables, darts, basketball, arcade machines, outdoor seating, and a welcoming setup that makes it easy to hang out for a while. The staff was very friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. Our total wait time from sitting down to receiving food was about 21 minutes, which felt reasonable considering drinks and appetizers came out first. The deep fried crab balls were delicious, and the fries were cooked perfectly. For the wings, we tried multiple flavors including Atomic Buffalo, Sweet Chili, Lemon Pepper, Teriyaki, and Jerk. The cook on the wings was excellent -- crispy without being dry. Some flavors stood out more than others depending on personal preference, but the Sweet Chili and Teriyaki were favorites for our table. The ranch was also really good, which definitely matters with wings. Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food made this a fun experience and we'd return again.

We arrived with only 2 other cars in the parking lot, which made us question if they were even open...as it turn out they were, but my wife, and I were the only patrons. We walked in to an unlit foyer, saw some light on in the bar area, so poked our heads in to ask if they were open. The bartender welcomed us and assured us they were, and invited us to seat ourselves. We grabbed seats at a high top, and she brought over the menus and took our drink orders. First thing I noticed was the table tops were not flat, they were wavy and made it very easy to spill your drink, so beware, and be careful where you put your drink down. The menu was pretty standard bar food, burgers, sandwiches, wings and other fried items. I decided to try their build your own burger, an 8oz patty with choice of cheese and toppings. Only side options were fries or hot chips. Food was quick to come out, but again, we were the only people there. The burger was OK, although just a frozen patty, they grilled up, the fries were good, but the portion felt a little small. Overall it was okay, perhaps they're still trying to get thing figured out. The bartender was friendly though. I didn't see a bar menu, but from what I could see they had a fully stocked bar. As we left, we poked our head around to the other side of the building to find a golf simulator, some billiards tables and a few arcade games. Lots of tvs every where though, probably a good place to catch a game.

After a some discussion and online menu review, we settled on Rixster. We've, been many times in the past, but haven't placed a to go order since the days of Covid I called in the our order as I was finishing up a few errands, the hostess who took the order was very friendly and said it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I figured I'd have a chance to grab a beer while I waited for the food to be ready, but was pleasantly surprised to find it was already done. After some debate, I decided to try something different on this visit, and got the Hawaiian Chicken Grill sandwich with a side of a Mac & cheese. Getting home, I opened the to go container to find a massive slab of chicken, sticking out both sides of the bun, not surprising based on my past varieties of chicken sandwiches from Rixster Grill! The sandwich was delicious, marinated in teriyaki and super juicy, topped with cheese and a grilled pineapple ring. It really hit the spot, and definitely filled me up. We sat and waited forever for our waiter to greet us. By the time he did, he started with an apology, which is never a good sign. Unfortunately, it wasn't his last apology for the night, and things just kept getting worse. I got the NY strip, while my wife got the bourbon glazed chicken..,the regular one that comes with two breasts. We also added the salad bar. We started with the salad. The lettuce in three of four bowls was brown and looked old and decrepit. The spring mix looked ok, so we went with that. After finishing our salad, our main courses came out. My soda was empty, and my wife's was almost empty. Our server's question of, "Is there anything else I can get you?", never should've been asked. Anyway, our entrees come out. My NY strip and my wife's bourbon glazed salmon. Wait. Salmon? She didn't order salmon. We both recognize it as salmon, but our waiter isn't so sure. "Why don't you taste it?", he asks my wife. My wife, who doesn't like salmon or she would've ordered salmon, is a little put out by this request, and I agree. I taste it and confirm it is indeed salmon. Also, it's one piece, while the chicken clearly says it comes with two breasts. "Oh, it comes with one, but you have to ask for two.", our waiter says, which is clearly opposite from how it's worded in the menu. We had planned to split both dishes, so he takes the salmon back, and we start on the steak. It's terrible. What isn't fatty is dry and tasteless. How do they charge $25 for something like this that's so bad? Rice and broccoli were fine, but the steak was bad bad bad. Worse than Michael Jackson ever was. We've completely finished with the steak dish when the chicken finally comes out. While not the best chicken we've ever had, compared to the steak we forced ourselves to eat, the chicken seemed like it had been blessed by God. For the record, the chicken looked NOTHING like the salmon. There is no way the two could've been confused. It's impossible to get our server to pay attention to us. I finally get his attention by flapping my arms. Yes, really. We get our bill, but then he won't come back. Eventually, we're both giving him the death stare, "Yes, I know", he says at one point. "All I want to do is pay my bill.", I say as a reply. To which, he walks off again. He then comes back a little while later and probably wasn't surprised to see that no tip was given. It's been many many years since I've left a restaurant leaving no tip at all. This experience was so bad I feel like they owe me some money just for going in the first place. All our happy memories of good Ruby Tuesday experiences in the past have been ruined by this sad sad excuse for a dining experience that has put me a little closer to my grave.

The chicken sandwich was ok - I'm glad I opted for cheese or I would have been highly disappointed. No lettuce, and I had to add my own. Broccoli was way overcooked and no taste.
