The food and drink recommendations she made for the table were great, and the onion rings are definitely the best ones we've had in the area since relocating here. Both sandwiches we had were great. The Chicken Philly had a little bit of a kick to it, which made it a nice change from usual Philly sandwiches and the Cuban was different from a traditional Cuban as it had some barbecue sauce on it. It was a little different for me at first, but I ended up really liking it. Both salads were pretty big and both people really liked the salads. The person that got the blackened grouper Baja salad thought that the grouper was fabulous, seasoned perfectly and loved the salad overall. I decided to get those last night, and the fish was two good size thick cod filets, fried and breaded perfectly. The fish was flaky and tender, the remoulade it came with really elevated it, I'm glad it was not plain tartar sauce (gross). The appetizer favorite here is the pulled pork nachos for me, otherwise, we usually just get meals. If I had one small complaint, it's that the tea is usually brewed pretty weak. Steep it a little longer, and you've got me fully hooked.

When we come for dinner on rare occasions, almost every time the service is crap for dinner .Today we had an early dinner and our server left a lot to be desired. The earlier shifts always leaves extra napkins. I had to ask for them with the later shift. The 3 servers and manager on duty where to busy sitting at the counter and behind the counter shooting the breeze. Our waiter never bothered to ask if we wanted anything else. I asked for a to go box and the check. He finally brought the to go box but never the check. We got up to pay and the bill was sitting next to the credit card machine. He ran the credit card and watch for the amount of tip I would leave. I left him 15% because he was staring at me. I was going to leave him 10%. The next time a server does this I will not leave a tip. The servers in the morning always get 20 to 25% and sometimes more. I think I'm just going to have to stay Way from Carolina diner for dinner. Like I said it's always one thing or another with the evening shift. Onçe the evening server thought she had to argue with me. I have been to this location probably close to 100 times. Day shift is excellent, the night shift bites the bullet.

I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.
