The fat was perfectly cooked off leaving just the rich flavor of the smoking meat. The pulled chicken was tender and juicy. The best bbq chicken I've had in years, sweet and smoky, and the corn pudding is incredibly delicious not too sweet just a wonderful rich sweet creamy creamy corn dessert taking me back to my childhood. I tried this City Barbeque on Falls of the Neuse Rd for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the food. City Barbecue has become my go to spot for barbecue in the raleigh area. The meat is smoked beautifully, and the huge portion sizes and variety of sauces really make City stand out. I was feeling really hungry and got the two meat combo with pulled pork and beef brisket. Both meats were super tender and juicy. The pulled pork was awesome, and I loved the bites that still had the seasoning coated on the exterior of the pork shoulder. And not to be missed, the brisket had an incredible smoke ring and is a must try for first timers. I also enjoyed the vinegar based sauces and the spicy bbq sauce to go with my meats. City Barbeque also boasts a variety of really good sides. The baked beans contain chunks of brisket, which is awesome, and the fresh cut fries are impressive. I also am a fan of the corn pudding and corn bread. I recently tried the new gumbo side and enjoyed that as well. Overall, if you want some good barbecue, definitely try City Barbecue. I've just purchased my last City Sampler. Foolishly, I got it to go and didn't check it before I left. 2 tablespoons of fat-laden Brisket? Really??? Oh, and no Texas Toast? I think you better start reading the reviews written by non-employee's. It's so unfortunate because I have had better here, You've really gone downhill in the past 2-3 years. The food here is wonderful. We had family visiting from out of town who really wanted to try BBQ. We were going to go to the pit in downtown but there was a bicycle race so we found ourselves here. The food is fabulous. If I was rating my experience solely on the food, it would have 5 stars. They let you try tons of sauces... spicy, vinegary, sweet, and everything in between. They have something for everyone. The portions are huge. My husband and I had one of the sharing plates and still had food to take home. The brisket was my favorite, followed by the ribs. But honestly all the meat was fabulous. The sides were great too. Now here are my complaints... the location is TERRIBLE. there's not nearly enough parking. Way too many businesses and not enough spots. Took us nearly 30 mins just to find a spot to park. We also had to park far away and we have a newborn so we had to trek up to the restaurant. It was not a great experience. Also, it's way too loud in here. They have the music up really loud almost and you find yourself basically yelling across the table to talk to your dining mates... it was a bit much. read more

Always a big fan of City BBQ. It is the perfect option for a tasty, quick, and reasonably priced dinner. Parking can be tricky at this location as there is so much going on in the plaza. If it's after hours you can park in the bank lot across the way. I usually like to go with a sampler of sorts to get to munch on a variety of food. My favorite is the brisket, followed by the ribs! The turkey has been excellent on some visits, but a bit drier on others. The sides are all pretty awesome, the green beans and collard greens are probably my favorite. On my last visit we had to wait a bit for the cornbread since they were baking it up. I hope this happens to me at every visit! The steaming hot fresh from the oven cornbread was soooo freaking delicious! I'm a big City BBQ fan and will continue heading on in when the BBQ craving strikes!! read more

This place was amazing. I loved the food! Upon arrival I was greeted and that's a plus. The menu has a variety to choose from which made it hard to decide what to get. My favorite side were the collards it was delish! We didn't have to wait long and got our food fast. I ordered the pick 2 option and got brisket and chicken w/ mac n cheese and collards as the sides. I also got a nice size chocolate cake which was amazing!! My daughter got the bacon cheese fries and half slab of ribs. The fries were delicious. My boyfriend got the pick 2 option as well and chose pulled pork and brisket w/ mac n cheese and potato salad. I tried his food and also loved the potato salad. I will definitely be back! I have eaten at city barbecue a number of times over the years, and a couple times during the pandemic. My curbside order was incorrect. We were missing one of our party's meals, and there was not one drop of barbecue sauce in the whole $100 bag of food. It was disappointing to find out one of my family members wasn't getting dinner. A return trip was too far to be worth it. You know that this place has chronic issues when the second choice in their phone tree is to speak with a manager about your order. I've never encountered a business who must get so many complaints that the choice to speak with someone is front and center when you call. Both of the people we spoke to on the phone didn't seem to care too much. I imagine they've gotten good at fielding calls and refunding money all day. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. We ordered brisket, pulled pork, bone in chicken, Mac and cheese, and baked beans. All of our guests were raving about how great the food was. Was recommended by a local. I am picky about my bbq, there are some bad reviews( for good reasons) from poor bbq places. I digress.... I walked in to this place and I like the atmosphere, it wasn't packed but it wasn't so busy. I asked for two meats, brisket & sausage. I got two sides, baked beans and Mac & cheese. I grabbed a beer too. I went to an empty table and waited for my name to be called, in the meantime I enjoyed my locally made beer called humidity; a pale ale. Name was called and grabbed my tray. I was pleased as I looked at the food. I tried the brisket first, it was good but not great. Although I wasn't disappointed. Next I tried the baked beans & I was definitely pleased with the taste. There was a couple chunks of brisket in it and I decided to add a little more. Next I tried the sausage, it was better than a few smoke sausages I have had. I enjoyed it very much. I went back to the baked beans and finished that. I was really pleased with them. Finished up the brisket, the only disappointing part of the brisket was it may have been over cooked. I tried the Mac & cheese and this was the most disappointing part of the meal. It was a little too cheesy, and I didn't finish it. Finished my sausage, relaxed and enjoyed the rest of my beer. I just had a wonderful first experience at City Barbecue! There are SO many good things to eat on the menu, it is really hard to decide what to eat. For my first meal, I opted for the Pick Two Meats (Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork); the pulled pork was good, but the brisket was DELICIOUSly moist and flavorful. Other options for meats include Turkey Breast, Smoked Sausage, Chicken, and Ribs. The options for sides include: fries, green beans, Mac and Cheese, Sweet Vinegar Slaw, Corn Pudding, Hushpuppies, Cornbread, Collards, Potato Salad, Side Salad, Baked Beans and Gumbo; they also had a few options that aren't always on the menu including Fried Okra. I "behaved" myself today and only got 2 sides (Mac and Cheese and Corn Pudding (which is a blend of creamed corn and cornbread and tastes LOVELY). They have a few salad options for those who actually have self-control (not me today) including a Turkey Salad and a Premium Salad. For Dessert, the options include Peach Cobbler, Banana Pudding and Triple Chocolate Cake; I sampled my friend's banana pudding, and it was quite yummy. There are a variety of soda fountain options, lemonade, tea and some addictive Sweet Tea. Be prepared to take some (if not a lot) of food home. I have a TON of leftovers from my meal. I can't wait to eat the rest of it, but alas I am FULL right now. ;-) Thanks again to the team for allowing my friends and I to experience this Meat Lovers restaurant before it was officially open to the public. This place is a fantastic spot to scratch the Texas style BBQ itch. The brisket is always on point, the chicken and turkey are always juicy and tender, and their sides are right. The reason for the dropped star is the sausage. It's ok. It is a little on the tough side and doesn't have a ton of flavor. There are much better options for good sausage around here. Sausage aside, I love the food and atmosphere, and having a bottled Big Red with the tender smoked meats makes me feel like I'm back in Texas. Oh, and the customer service is always great. I enjoyed the food here a lot, my picky husband from Wake Forest didn't as much. The decor is nice, and the service is fast and friendly. We went on Tuesday, when they have a rib special. I think the prices are ok given the quantities. The ribs were tender, and falling off the bone. You can't get a completely dry rub, but theirs weren't too goopy. The fries were nice. The cucumber and onion side was a bit sweet for my liking. The hush puppies were excellent. There are big negatives at this place for me 1. They don't have a decent hot sauce. 2. Their house sauce was pointless. We didn't find any of the sauces on offer to add anything to the cooked meat. Their ribs were cooked really well though. I would go back for those and take my own bottle of spicy stuff. I look forward to trying the brisket next time. read more
