I tried their grilled chicken sandwich and bowl of chicken noodle soup. Happy with the quality of both - meat was seasoned well and grilled perfectly and soup hit the spot. The orders are always totally accurate, the staff was friendly and helpful when I had to call and adjust something just after I placed the order online, and the food is very good. My area in the neighborhood of Avondale is lacking in choices regarding restaurants and bars. This corner diner helps make up for the void. I've been coming here since opening just under 3 years ago. Fast, Friendly, and Courteous service. The servings are large, hot, tasty and inexpensive. I recommend the 3 egg breakfast with sausage (less than $6) or the omelet special of the day. A great spot in the neighborhood for those of us who aren't cool enough to venture into Logan Square for breakfast or brunch. I thought this might be an average, edible-but-kinda-gross-at-the-same-time diner, but it's surprisingly yummy! The waffles and pancakes are fresh and yummy. Last time I tried the breakfast special, an avocado/tomato/bacon omelet, and was thrilled that it was genuinely chock full of those ingredients! Not a gross, dry, eggy bite in there! Plus the service is always wonderful. It has a family-owned vibe and the thing I like the most is that it doesn't feel dirty; from the floors to the tables and the dish ware, they take care of this place well, which is refreshing for a city diner. read more

This place sucks. On a weekday morning it took over an hour to get served. Maybe because they were so busy? Nope. There were three other tables when we got there. Two other tables walked in while we were there. One of them was served before us. The bacon in my omelet tasted awful! Made me so nervous, I pulled all of the bacon bits out of the rest of it to be safe. The potatoes were both undercooked and over greasy. And there was a three year-old screaming at the top of her lungs. I guess that's not their fault. Just the poor service, and poor food. Bright and early for breakfast. This is the place we ate two years ago in Chicago with @tarajroth and @xobejm. Right near my parents house. My parents call it "Los Muchachos" which means the guys. Pedro and Jose are the owners now for 3 years. Under new management it has taken a simple breakfast menu and transformed it to something amazing. It's a very nice place. Clean and very diner like. It's smells like home cooking as soon as you open the door. "Los Muchachos" always as friendly as ever greeting you as you walk in. The usual suspects in the morning. Great place for a hearty breakfast. They just started serving Pasta dishes Thurs through Sunday. The former chef of Vivo is doing the cooking and the pastas are delicious. They have to work on a bit more atmosphere and a better bread basket but I will definitely go back to sample all dishes. read more

Four words: apple.pecan.french toast. It's UH-MAZING. But it's not all about that. Their service is fast and friendly, the coffee is hot and plentiful (and strong), and the prices are very reasonable. The place gets very crowded around 10 a.m., so get there early or expect to wait a bit! I love neighborhood diners and in a city this big, really good ones aren't as easy to find as you'd think. I live half a block from here and it's been an awesome regular place when I just want a cheap, quick, and greasy breakfast. We all need one sometimes! I love getting bacon, eggs, and cheese on the dinner plate-sized croissants that they have. With avocado. Yum. My only beef is that, like all diners, the coffee is weak and somewhat flavorless, and overpriced - though refills are free, at least. And they only have those weird ultra-pasteurized packets of shelf-stable "cream". But I can deal. RE: reviewers mentioned them using margarine vs butter. If you're a butter purist (like me) or health-conscious (also usually me...) and you ask for real butter instead of that plastic crap, they will give you a generous slice for your toast. Someone parked in the in/out area and almost blocked us all in:( It's surrounded by one way streets so it can be tricky to get to the Parking lot behind the restaurant. Absolutely loved the pancakes they served here. Its hot, fluffy, and moist with a good amount of whip! The pancakes were a good size too so two of them was filling enough for me. The service and prices were good. Definitely stop by for breakfast if you're in the area. They have a parking lot in the back but there's not a lot of room. You can so park on the street. This place was good until my last visit today. The order was wrong and I sent the food back, she said she wouldn't charge me.. until i got to the register. Mind you she never came back, so no water refills, no check, no to go box for my daughter. I had to get up and go to the register to get serviced (I waited till a few tables that came in after me had already left). Lady stopped cleaning to come to the register and take a call for an order! I waited, and she apparently rang me up in the process and gave me a total. I told her I need water and a to go box first... then I asked to SEE the bill. She charged me for the food I sent back and refused to take it off the bill. I didn't take a single bite of that food- not paying for it either! She didn't even ask if I wanted something else to eat. So THEN the cook (maybe owner?) took my money and tried to keep 10 extra dollars!! I argued with him and he gave me the right change... SHADY. Had the in laws in town and they wanted to go to breakfast. Options were Cozy Corner, Golden Nugget, Jam or City Cafe. We had not been to any of them and just randomly decided City Cafe. So glad we did! From walking in we new it was the right choice. It's always awkward when you walk it to a place and don't feel welcomed or that they even want you there. Not the case with City Cafe! Met with big smiles and seating right away even though it was very busy, another great indication. We had wonderful coffee, delicious entrees and attentive and kind but not annoying service. Considering the number of ho-hum or just downright bad diners there are in this town, that's good enough for 4 stars. But I didn't have the same mind-blowing experience others have. I ordered a veggie skillet which has lot of veggies and i asked for steak on it. Other place charge about 3-4bucks.
