This little restaurant has "The Best Orange Chicken In Town....the Town Of Poway!" It is family owned and operated. It has been a main stay in Poway for at least 10 years. The people are very nice and are trying to eck out a living in this little town. They will do most anything you want with your order, they mean to please. The understanding of making your customer happy didn't zoom past this establishment like it has with so many others. You can place your order on your way home from work and it will be waiting for you when you get there. The food is great and fresh, always fast! City Dragon Chinese Restaurant had their grand opening in Poway this weekend, and we couldn't wait to try them out. My wife and I had an outstanding dinner there this evening. We had the Chicken Lo Mein, Egg Roll appetizer, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Kung Pao Chicken. Everything was very fresh and delicious. There were probably eight to ten shrimp in the shrimp fried rice and they were very good size. The fried rice was fresh and moist and not greasy, with bits of fried egg and scallions in the mix. Same for the egg roll - lots of great fresh veggies and a very light wrapper not over-fried - just right and very hot (by the fire). The sweet and sour sauce was also light, with more sweet than sour. The Lo Mein noodles were perfect texture and the sauce was well seasoned and we did not need to add any soy sauce, but it was not over-salty. The real highlight was the chicken in both the lo mein and kung pao dishes; there was a lot of it (big portions and we took the leftovers home), and it was moist and yet done all the way through - just perfect. The kung pao sauce was not very spicy, but it was my first time here so I thought I'd just try their "regular" heat and the server asked if I wanted it spicier - so next time I'll say yes. Speaking of service, everyone was very friendly and conversational, two brothers helping out their parents get the shop off to a good start. The place was clean, well-lit, and an airy/breezy atmosphere. They have a walk-up counter to place your order from which you can see the kitchen and the cooking process. There are six four-person tables and we ate in for our first experience. They serve on foam plates with plasticware, but we didn't really expect white tablecloths or wine (it's a Chinese takeout). The menu is huge, very extensive with 105 dishes, plus 22 Lunch Specials and 34 Dinner Combination Platters. They also offer two Family dinners (A) with choice of three soups, plus egg roll, fried shrimp, cream cheese wonton, your choice of one of ten full entrées for $11.25 per person; or (B) with soup, egg roll, fried shrimp and wrapped paper chicken plus one of ten entrees for $11.50 per person - both very good values in our opinion. If you're having an event, they also offer 18 Party Trays, each serving 8-10 people and priced from $12 (steamed rice) to $42 for one of their three signature Shrimp dishes. As you can tell, we were very impressed. This family owned business has been in operation since 1994 (formerly in North Park) and they have obviously perfected these dishes to a very high acceptability level. We'll be back! read more

I came here because 4 star yelp. Maybe because I've had way better before but the food here is gross. Very plain taste to everything we had. Prices were high for what yoy got and the chicken they used for our fried rice and orange "chicken" was like mystery chicken like banquet frozen chicken nuggets. Won't be back. read more

My friends recommended this place and so I stopped by to pick up some orange chicken and cream cheese wontons to go. I loved it! It was amazing and definitely satisfied my chinese food cravings. I would come back to dine in next time! read more

My experience was exactly the same as Julie R's (and Moe's, and Marge's, and karen's, and Lourdes). There were six of us and we ordered five entrees, including the orange chicken which got 5 stars by another reviewer. Five out of 6 persons agreed it is BY FAR the worst Chinese food we have ever eaten, and the 6th merely called it "tolerable". All 5 entrees wereflavorless, except for the over-saltedness. It was rubbery too---like it had been made earlier in the day and reheated, or taken off a buffet line---definitely not fresh. Never in my life have I thrown out uneaten Chinese food---I always keep it and eat it the next day---but all of us ate just enough to barely sate our hunger, as we had no other options available to us, and then threw the remainder away. It was JUST AWFUL. I simply cannot understand the 5-star reviews at all, unless a) things have dramatically changed there somehow since 2010, or b) there is a substitute chef on Mondays or something: we ordered it on a Monday (Jan 17), around 6 PM, when our favorite place (China Fun) was closed. The only good thing that can be said for this food is that none of us got sick from it, as we feared.If I could have given this zero stars, I would have---the only thing propping up the rating is that you apparently cannot give zero stars, and that helps their average. My 1 star did not even cause their 3.5 rating to budge, even though at least 30% of the people reviewing think this is terrible food. Worse experience second time around. I went to this Chinese restaurant about 2 years ago for the first time and was terribly disappointed then. This Sunday, I thought to myself, especially after reading some positive reviews online that maybe they have changed which in turn prompted my giving them a second chance. BIG MISTAKE. I spent over $50.00 and wad told that the order would take 20 minutes to get prepared, so I took my 2 boys and went to the nearby pet store to get some toys for our two dogs and returned about 15 minutes later later; we finally received our food after a total of 40 minutes after the time stamp on their receipt!!! Next, 4 of the entrees that I ordered were supposed to come with fried rice, I got 1 container of boiled rice, we were also supposed to get wontons with each meal, but none were given, when I asked the owner/cashier about the rice, she blatantly lied by stating that only 2 of the entrees came with the rice and totally ignored the fact that even if that were true, the F***ING rice was supposed to be FRIED!!! Then, we only got soy sauce and none of the other condiments that I come to expect with Chinese food, then there were no utensils at all, no forks, or chopsticks. Too bad there aren't any other Chinese places in Poway besides this monstrosity. I love China Ann in the Rosecrans area, should have just driven down there!!!!! read more

The only food I get at Chinese restaurants is the the Mongolian beef. I've had my good share, and of course my bad share. Out of every please I've eaten this place surpassed the worst I've had in a long time. The meat was like chewing on a ball of rubber bands. For the price I paid I went ahead and aet the food hoping I wouldn't choke on the food and possibly die. Please if you can, stay as far as you can from this place. read more

Stopped in for some Salt n Pepper Chicken wings and the man who seemed to be the owner said we don't make those anymore. Okay so lesson learned don't rely on old tips or reviews. I ordered some Chow Mein instead and like one of the more recent reviews the styrofoam take-out container was only 80% full not to mention I can count with both hands how much meat was in there and I ordered the combination noodles...disappointment #2. After our meal my young son asked for a fortune cookie because when you're 4 you kind of expect it, so I asked the lady who I'm sure was the wife and owner shook her head at me and I confirmed by saying, "you don't have fortune cookies?" 3 disappointments later I won't be coming back. As for the food it was okay but I should've drove 5 more minutes to Hong Kong Express instead. You know when you ask for a plate or maybe even an extra plastic utensil and later a plastic bag to bring your left overs and you get the look of death this place is one thing for sure shady as f*. read more

On occasion, I do enjoy the usual Chinese fast food spot. I've heard of this place through word of mouth and have only had a chance to recently try it. Really good authentic chinese food cooked by actual chinese people (not to be offensive but not cooked by mexican people in the back). My favorite dish is the cashew chicken but of course the orange chicken is really good as well :P. I recommend this place for quick chinese food. read more

Got takeout from here for the first time over the weekend. The prices were good, the people were friendly and the food was ready quickly....but the food was just ok. Content, Best ever;Perfect those would be my words to describe this little family restaurant. City Dragon is a clean, quaint , classy spot to get Exceptional Chinese food. Owner's son rang up our order & what a smart, good looking guy he is :) Mom & Dad were in the kitchen/back doing the cooking;FABULOUS job they do! You can taste the care, love & thought they've put into their meals. the freshness in their veggies, the noodles, the rice. This is real fresh good food & when the sauces are offered on the side it makes the meal perfect for even two different pallets. My favorite was the veggies; being a vegetarian it was nice to taste the freshness in the food. We ordered take out from here and the food was hot and took about 45 minutes to cook, but it was not as flavorful as other places to we have eaten. The sesame chicken was a little bland and did not have very many sesame seeds on it. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy and came with cooked veggies, but the sauce was not very thick. The kung pow beef was cooked well and had some really great flavors, but could have used a bit more push. The highlight of the meal were the very crispy spring rolls. Also, I don't know if this is a standard thing, but the wantons we ordered did not come with any filling. Maybe we had to ask for the filling instead of just saying "wantons"? All in all, not bad for the price, but I would likely try out another Chinese place before going back to this one. read more
