    City post salad (split)
    Kara M.

OVERVIEW: A beautifully renovated historic spot - 1930s post office turned modern day restaurant! Live piano music and a speakeasy jazz bar in the basement. A great date night or special occasion spot to splurge a little and have a fun time in Georgetown's town square. Service was excellent and we were able to get a same-day Saturday night reservation. Food was good and worth going back for! QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, free parking around the area. Can get busy on weekends. - Reservations? Yes, recommended but not required. I called ahead on a Saturday night to ask about availability and was able to snag a 5:30pm. FOOD RATINGS: - City post salad (4/5): Great flavors and large portion! Great value. They split it between two plates since we were sharing. A little too heavy on the dressing, but otherwise tasty. - Bread service (3/5): Warm homemade white bread loaf with salted butter and a seasonal butter (ours was rosemary). It was just okay for charging $4 for bread service. You would get this complimentary with your meal elsewhere. - Scallops (4/5): The orange beurre blanc sauce was delicious. Scallops were good and perfect size. - Oysters (3/5): Gulf coast oysters and some from Virginia. Not bad but not the best I've had. A little grainy. The sauces were great and the hot sauce had a nice kick. - Ribeye with peppercorn sauce (4/5): I thought it was weird they halved the steak lengthways...but it was good. Less fatty than we had hoped, but tasty nonetheless. The peppercorn sauce was good but not worth $6, especially when you're already paying a pretty penny for the steak! - Mushroom risotto (2/5): This was a special side for the night. It was unfortunately not very good. Had a weird off taste to me, like the mushrooms weren't very good. I've had better risottos. We didn't finish it. - Cheesecake (5/5): A strong ending to the meal! All of the desserts looked great, but this was a good pick. Loved it.

Absolutely perfect. It's been too long since we've last gone on a date. I write this review two mimosas tipsy. Highly recommend if you want to wow your partner. Restaurant is an elegant bank vault converted into an eatery- with white table cloth and top tier steak options. Go all out! We sure did. We came for steak & eggs during Sunday brunch! -- And will certainly be back for the Chilean sea bass and lobster rolls!

    Steak with peppercorn demi sauce

Our experience was top tier from beginning to end. Our server was very friendly, got to know us, and we had a great time with him. We got the scallops and oysters to start. The scallops were nice and big, and the sauce it came with was sweet. Our server recommended to dip the bread in the sauce and it was delicious. The oysters were very fresh as well, they had a selection of two different types and they came with a vinaigrette, and two different classic sauces. For my main, I got a flank steak with peppercorn Demi sauce. It was an 8 oz, perfect size for just me and it was super tender. The peppercorn demi was very rich and absolutely delicious. For dessert, which we ate too quick before I got a picture, was seriously the best New York cheesecake I've ever had. I would definitely recommend coming here for a celebration or for something special. They have new menu small bite tasting on Tuesdays I believe as well. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience from beginning to end with seamless service so I could focus on having a great time.

First time visiting here, made a reservation in advance for Friday night. Was surprised even a week+ in advance, they were already full for Saturday. We got the two draft cocktails which were delicious. I'm generally skeptical about draft cocktails but the post poppy had all my favorite things so I had to get it and I'm happy I did. For appetizers we did the bread with rosemary butter - good but nothing special. I got the city post salad (delicious) and my boyfriend got the clam chowder which he enjoyed. For entrees we both got steaks with sides of Brussels and a twice baked potato (all delish). The Brussels had good flavor but the cook was kind of inconsistent- some were under and some were a bit over- still enjoyed them though and would order everything we got again! My only con is that we came for my boyfriend's birthday and were not offered anything for this. I can't remember if there was a spot in the reservation for listing an occasion but nobody ever asked if we were celebrating anything. I would have appreciated that (I'm not the type to go out of my way to tell them, especially in front of my boyfriend). Small complaint but when spending this much on a nice dinner, it would have been an appreciated ending to a great dinner.

We tried City Post Chophouse recently and overall had a really good experience. Food: The onion soup was sooo good--rich, flavorful, and comforting. The burger was cooked perfectly, juicy and exactly how I ordered it. And the fresh bread and butter they bring out at the start... simple but really delicious. That alone made a great first impression. Service: Service was friendly and attentive. The only hiccup was that they don't take tap to pay. I honestly can't remember the last time I was in a restaurant that didn't have tap to pay--it's been at least 5 years--so that caught us off guard and we learned the hard way at the end. But the staff handled it well and helped us get it sorted out, which we appreciated. Warning to ADHDers who never carry a card lol Ambiance: Really nice atmosphere. It has that historic Georgetown charm Overall: Great food, good service, and a beautiful space. We'd definitely come back, next time with a card

This review is for the Brass Peacock speakeasy, located underneath City Post. I wasn't able to find a location on Yelp so I decided to post it here. The brass peacock is somewhat hidden but once you find it and make your way in you will not be disappointed. This was my first visit and I cannot wait to go again and again and again. When you walk in it has such an old school speakeasy vibe. There's plenty of seating for the small space as well as seats all around the bar and a little stage where there was a band performing live while we were there. This is such a great date night, friend night, solo night location. The greeters were super friendly and the bartenders were very attentive, knowledgeable and also friendly. There is a cocktail menu a sweets menu and a savory menu with small bites. You can follow the brass peacock on Instagram for daily specials and events. I highly recommend visiting this really cool speakeasy.

We live in Georgetown and love eating local. City Post is one of those places we only ever explore on planned "date nights," and we should probably be coming by more on nights they're running specials. You definitely need reservations most weekends. About that: They called me the day before to confirm my reservation - I was thankful to know they hadn't forgotten it. :) Then, when we showed up, they were running 20 minutes or so behind... not a problem by any means, but they're definitely booking their tables pretty aggressively and anyone not eating at the "average" pace will throw things off. Service, however, was quick and attentive and their exec chef was being present in the dining room, making sure things were running smooth from the kitchen. Food? We'd planned this to be a special night out for the holidays and intended to order every course. We'd thought about their charcuterie platter with cocktails, but they had a special tomato salad that night with burrata, mozzarella and pesto. Easy winner. Recommended with the bread service, but we're eating lower carb. We both ordered ribeyes - mine dry aged, hers not, both medium rare. My dry aged came out closer to the rare of medium rare, hers came out closer to the medium in the medium rare. Neither were over or under-cooked, however, and 100% acceptable for the medium-rare range. It's possible that whoever was on the grill that night cooked them both the same amount of time but with the difference in meat there was a difference in final cook. I added lobster, she added bernaise. We added the portabello mushrooms, which we'd thought we'd had before but hadn't. Beautifully marinated/sauced and perfectly cooked, a good accoutrement to the steaks. We finished up by sharing the sticky toffee pudding, which my wife has had in Europe before and wasn't the biggest fan. Theirs, however, was really good - sweet and flavorful without being cloyingly sweet. The Amy's ice cream paired perfectly and one was enough to share. A note about wine - order a bottle. Their wine list leaves a lot to be desired if you're ordering by the glass but is much, much better by the bottle. They serve into a decanter (for reds, at least), which is a nice touch. They also don't have problem putting any leftover wine back into the bottle for you to take home. Overall? A great experience on a busy pre-holiday weekend night, so five stars with some grace for the patrons ahead of us being slow to leave. The food and service absolutely earned that.

This review is a from a bit of a different perspective! I shoot weddings and my clients had their reception upstairs here. Firstly, I had no idea they had this beautiful private space available! As I was a vendor, I wasn't expecting much in the way of my own dinner, but the staff totally made it such a sweet experience. Even though i wasn't a guest, they made sure I was taken care of, as far as if I needed a drink, a set of utensils or the pass and serve hors d'oeuvres. We often get disregarded to the background and no one really thinks about our day or needs- This staff did! If how the staff treats your vendors matters, you might enjoy the the lovely service of city post- Did i mention it's an old post office (so cute)

After my all-day conference, two of my friends and I we were poised for a nice dinner. So, we decided to have dinner at City Post Chophouse in Georgetown, TX. City Post as the name implies has been transformed from Georgetown's historic 1930s post office into a fine dining chophouse. With its blend of architectural charm and culinary sophistication, it immediately puts your senses on high alert. The moment you step inside, you feel the old (mail boxes, mailbox keys, building structure) and new (modern furniture, dim lighting, and wood finishes) that honors the building's past while embracing luxury. While at most fine dining restaurants in Texas is rather casual, at City Post they have an elevated dress code. The curated menu features prime cuts and fresh seafood. I had the City Post salad and Chilean Sea Bass with grilled asparagus frequently praised as "the best Chilean Sea Bass". It certainly was an excellently prepared...grilled with precision seasoning and an addicting taste. The salad was fresh and different including crisp lettuce, thinly sliced green apples and pistachios. My friends both ordered the lobster roll and enjoyed the rolls to the fullest. We ordered the bread service, another delightful addition, white bread accompanied by rosemary and sea salt butter. The bread was hot and buttery and melted in your mouth. In addition, we had prosecco, bourbon and gin cocktails. Pro tip: If you book dinner in the restaurant, you are almost guaranteed a place in the speakeasy (previously a mail sorting station). My friends and I went down to the speakeasy to listen to some live music. I had the cheesecake and my friends had cocktails. I shared my cheesecake and it was so good one friend and I ordered a piece to go. City Post sources their desserts from Sweet Lemon Kitchen, a sister restaurant. City Post also offers vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free options. In addition, there is a small free parking lot behind the restaurant. Heidi, our server, was amazing! She was attentive and personable. She introduced herself and highlighted the dinner specials. She also ensured a hostess escorted to the speakeasy. Service was excellent! Such a delightful meal made special by sharing it with friends...

City Post is definitely the most upscale restaurant in Georgetown... with prices to match, but the food is incredible. I'd gladly pay for a chef led cooking course if they ever offer one, but until then, it's become a great celebration restaurant. Little touches make the difference, whether it's the table-side decanting of the red wine or servers dishing out the family style sides ordered, it is an experience.

Brass Peacock bar downstairs: From the moment you step inside, you feel like you've slipped into another era -- a true Prohibition-style hideaway with moody, low lighting and an intoxicating sense of mystery. The space is dark and intimate in the best way, with live music that wraps around the room and pulls you in. It's not just background noise -- it's part of the experience. The cocktails are unlike anything I've seen before. Each one feels completely original -- hand-crafted, beautifully balanced, and presented with thoughtful detail. You can tell the bartenders take real pride in what they create. Every sip feels intentional. And the staff? Absolutely exceptional. Attentive without hovering, warm without being overbearing -- they genuinely make you feel taken care of from the moment you sit down. There's an ease and confidence to the service that elevates the whole night. If you're looking for a dark, sultry atmosphere with incredible live music, inventive cocktails, and a team that makes you feel like a valued guest, this place delivers. It's the kind of bar you don't just visit -- you experience. Royal Tea, Chai Rye, Winter ? and a Martini

This was the perfect experience from the time walked through the door. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation so we took a seat at the bar and had a pre dinner cocktail. Cort took care of us and made delicious a lemon drop martini and old fashioned. The ambience was reminiscent of prohibition era and we had a cozy booth for our dinner being served by Tim. We each got oyster. 1/2 raw and 1/2 bbq. Don't let the bbq in the name fool you because they were more like Oysters Rockefeller and so delicious. We shared a lettuce wedge and our entrees consisted of lobster roll and ribeye. The ribeye was cooked to medium rare an it was perfection. The lobster roll was so fresh and buttery. We ended the night with creme brûlée. The speakeasy was closed for a private party but we will be back!
