City Star is one of our favorite local spots to go for a chill night out. We meet friends sometimes, bring our cribbage board and meet up to play with neighbors, grab a bite from the food truck and a few drinks. We almost always see someone we know. Alysa is great!! No, she is the best. Took great care of our group of 16, made insightful recommendations and was spot on every time. I had the Outlaw and it is a wonderful, complex, enjoyable beverage. Nothing like sitting with your family and enjoying a wonderful adult beverage. My wife enjoyed the Strawberry Hibiscus seltzer. Stopped into City for a beer after some yard work. Was pleasantly surprised to happen upon their anniversary celebration. We each ordered a beer an IPA and a very yummy Salud..... hint of watermelon, salt and lime. Was delicious! There are several areas to the brewery.... the outdoor seating is our favorite. They had a band playing and frequently have live music either inside or outside. There were 2 food trucks for the " party " but they usually always have 1 food truck to purchases food from. They keep a choice of Main Stay beers( always available) as well as a rotation of seasonal and changing beers. Fun place to hang out and relax, enjoy music and get a tasty bit of food from different food trucks. We always enjoy the beer and friendly, helpful staff. read more

A variety of food always awaits with different food trucks for your convenience! One of the greatest highlights of City Star is that it is locally owned and there is always new crafted beers to try! We had our daughter's baby shower at the brewery on Saturday. It was a great casual atmosphere for an event with both men and women guests. We were able to bring our own food and nonalcoholic beverages. The staff were awesome and very helpful. The brewery also has great beer!! read more

Great beer and great service! We parked nearby and found a seat easily on a Saturday afternoon. I tried the All American IPA and the freshly tapped Dead or Alive imperial IPA. Both were great. My wife had the Cherry Scoundrel sour and really enjoyed it as well. This brewery has a nice local neighborhood feel and that is very appealing for me. The beertenders were super friendly and helpful, especially Andrea! The Strawberry Blonde beer was very tasty and made wonder how to make it. An old friend invited us to come to Berthoud to visit her, because she wanted to share her favorite brewery with us! We made this our last stop of the day, and were happy to share a beer or two with her as she showed off her lovely town to us. We tried a few of their offerings, and even got a bottle to go. Several styles to choose from, from brown ales to IPAs...even some fruit and sour beers. Service was friendly and accommodating too! They don't serve food, but you are welcome to bring your own. We enjoyed some pizza from another local establishment while sampling the beers at City Star. All in all, a pleasant experience with a good friend. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Berthoud! read more

Went here today. Just wanted to visit a new brewery. Got some to go beer. People were sitting on their patio in front then sounds like they have a beer garden put back. You have to wait to be seated. All bartenders were wearing a mask. Seems very sanitized. Cheers! read more

Excited to find another new brewery- especially one so clean amd well kept up! Plus a food truck parked right there is major points. And a good fruit beer option made us happy. We could have used a bit more checking in outside and would have ordered more that way (it wasn't busy) but it was last last hour of open hours. We will be back. We loved the spicy and span organized feeling- we found it comforting. And the look of the place along with the open brew room and spacious seating and nice front and back patio- winning! read more

What looks like a smaller, unassuming space from the front is actually a very long and spacious setup inside and out back! The beer garden is very well laid out and cozy. The All-American is great beer, and far preferable to your standard over-hopped IPAs. Great merch, great space, great beer, great people means we will be back :D read more

It goes without saying that we have one of the most enviable beer cultures in America right in our back yard here in Colorado. Now, in virtually every city and town you can find a brewery that contributes to that rich diversity. While Berthoud may not enjoy the myriad of commercial options found in nearby Boulder, Denver or Ft. Collins, they finally have a place that the locals can rally behind and call an esteem-able member of their tight-knit community. I walked in on a warm Saturday afternoon during Memorial Day Weekend. They had the doors wide open and interestingly enough the place was literally empty of the crowd I saw on the highway. My wife and I survey the place briefly and found ourselves alone at the bar with the Assistant Head Brewer, Ryan. Being an avid home-brewer of approximately 5 years, I was eager to share in the experience with the one that helped brew their lively libations! I sampled several beers and all of them get a well-earned BJCP nod to quality and consistency to their respective styles. My favorite was their Imperial IPA, Dead or Alive. I am generally partial to big beers that have huge flavor and aroma. Subtlety is nice for session beers, but there's something to appreciate in the big beers, especially Imperial IPAs. It's like the brewer saying, "Consequences and efficiency be damned! I'm going to brew something amazing!" They may not get the best ROI or profitability on those beers but as a customer I say, "Thank you very much!" Initially, I was going to rate this a 4 star brewery, but as I recollect on my experience and my long conversations with Ryan at the bar and as we toured their internal brew space, I remember that this guy gives this place that last star. He went above and beyond and made my experience truly remarkable. Every-time I come down to the area, I will make it a point to stop in and see what new brews Ryan has made. Without free Pretzels, and small outdoor seating, and tapped out of the "Night Watchman," American Stout winning a Gold Medal in 2014 US Open Beer Championship, I may have only only mustered 4 stars. Yes, I'm a big whiny baby. However, if you find yourself in Berthoud, you may as well try BOTH breweries, and this one is easier to find and appears to have been placed in more contests. I settled for a flight and found GREAT satisfaction in "Bandit Brown" 5.5% ABV | 17 IBU English Brown Ale. A superb establishment: outstanding beer (the brown is imo one of the best beers in the state, with great balance), a really cool space, with a combination of elegant barrel room, some industrial flair, and a nice outside courtyard, often featuring excellent local music. The staff have always been very knowledgeable, and just downright plain nice, sweet folks. I feel really good about supporting such a consistently excellent business, and would certainly be a regular if I lived closer. read more

It's a Tuesday night and we waited at the hostess stand for 15 minutes before anyone said a word to us. The couple behind us left. When we finally got in, we were told that the Oktoberfest mugs they sold us the first time aren't good anymore, as they sold out in two weeks, nor will they fill them with any other beer. It doesn't really matter though, because after enjoying a raspberry brown we've been waiting almost a half hour for someone to offer refills. At least there are plenty of fruit flys to keep us entertained, barf. We're done waiting and won't return. You guys only have one job, sell beer. Fail. Beer is good. Service is hipster level garbage, embarrassing. Don't come here if you want beer. read more

After frequenting this local beer hotspot since its opening, I can't say enough great things about this brewing company. First off, the beer is consistent and varied. Choices abound to satisfy anyone from the biggest beer geek, to the newest craft beer drinker. The atmosphere is half of the draw, as the location really vibes a diverse beer-drinking community. But best of all, staff and ownership are the most friendly people I've had the pleasure of hanging around. But the heavy-handed factor that contributed to my raving review is that fact that City Star frequently throw events and specials to benefit local causes. Their amazing efforts in this area during the recent Colorado Flooding ranks them even higher in my business rating book. A company like City Star deserves credit when they go above and beyond to provide a great product, but when a brewery goes the extra mile to champion community sustainability, now that deserves an A++ ranking any day. read more

Not a bad little brewery that opened up in the unlikely town of Berthoud but that is ok because it adds charm to the town. I had a raspberry beer here which wasn't bad at all but then I settled on their IPA which tasted great and was really refreshing! They only had three beers on tap at the time we were there. This was our first stop on the brewery tour we took. By the time I walked in the rest of my crowd already had a pint, and several shouted out the Revolver to me, so with that endorsement I ordered. I recommend this one, it's very good. I also ordered a pint of the Widow Maker after tasting it and this really impressed me. I didn't have a chance to sample anything else, but I'd love to remedy that in the near future. I came in on a suggestion from another brewery. The Stout and Raspberry Brown Ale were both amazing. The bartender/brewer was accommodating, genuine, and friendly. Been here multiple times and I love it. Why no review thus far then? Well probably cause I'm drinking their beer! No time for anything else. Today I dropped in and had a hazy grapefruit ipa. Yes another hazy.... to trendy? Um, this is so good trendy doesn't matter. Also tried Luck Penny a green tea pearl pale. It was also tasty and totally different. I don't know how a recently opened place can feel so comfortable and be as good as it is. We tried about 10 different beers and John's artisinal touch was evident in every one. The hop balance on the IPA's were spot on, all of them having a bright clean finish. I was hesitant to taste the Country Pumpkin as many breweries end up making beer that tastes like pumpkin pie which isn't my idea of what beer should taste like. John's Pumpkin was clean and the fresh pumpkin (yeah no canned junk) was deliciously subtle. The gentle hint of hops in the wheat beer was a very nice touch too, they gave the beer a clean finish without any trace of bitterness. Whitney and the folks out front make you feel like family, a first visit and already it feels like City Star is my favorite neighborhood hangout! Its a comfortable and well executed concept, and the entire rennovation is a class act. read more

Another great brewery. What a time to be alive - and live in this great state! We have a buddy who works at City Star...but even if that weren't the case, I would still love this place. Both times we've been, there has been live music and a food truck (weekends only maybe?). Both times we've been it's been PACKED wall to wall. And both time we've been, we've had great beer. It's small and there's not much seating. The staff is always very friendly and...I'll say it again, the beer is fantastic. I am partial to their Chile Beer, my guy likes their Imperial Stout. I know that they have some seasonals that are very popular as well. If you like beer and supporting local businesses and you HAVEN'T been to City Star, you're 100% missing out. Fix that. Go now. City Star was the 1st stop on our mini brew tour birthday celebration. This was a great little place and not too crowded. I started off with the Cowboys Golden which was a nice smooth blonde ale. Not overly hoppy which is a huge plus for me. Then I tried the Vanilla Bandit. I am not normally a fan of darker type beers but this one was impressive. Again not overly hoppy and the vanilla flavor wasn't too over powering so that was all you could taste. I am definitely a fan of City Star and hopefully get a chance to come back! read more

With Berthoud being such a small community having a brewery open is a pretty big deal. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners Whitney and John before the opening and take a look around the new space. The story behind the building is a great one, and supports the atmosphere of the tap room. Lots of exposed beams, and reclaimed parts still exist which make it warm and welcoming. Besides the decor the beer (the most important part) is great. With 7 beers on tap they have a good mix from light to dark. You can tell the beer comes from a nano, has that fresh hand crafted taste. They also are having lots of events which will make this the place to hang out on main street. I would recommend you stop by for a pint or two read more

Ended our Berthoud pub crawl here on a Sunday evening: it was super crowded and chaotic, with a folk singer fighting for attention among the groups of drinkers. There was also an animal shelter camped out in front with literature and dogs to adopt. Probably not the best choice for a slightly-tipsy crowd: there were plenty of loving young ladies for every sad-eyed puppy they had brought along. The beer was good, not great, and I had a headache from all the competitive noises. I might come back someday if the place were emptier and quieter. read more

I enjoyed stopping in City Star mid day on a Sat to check it out. Great location in downtown Berthoud with front side sidewalk seating or accommodation inside. Although small in size the place had a good comfortable vibe and decor. At $5 a pint the beer is reasonable in price and very tasty with a nice selection to choose from. Including the current seasonal pumpkin beer. My only grip is (small and petty) the City Star Brewing sign out front is kind of brown with brownish lettering etc. I have passed the place several time and never noticed the sign. Adding a little signage contrast could only help sell a few more beers. read more

We came out here with some friends this past weekend, and I have to say, once I got over the initial smell (I can't even explain it - it's nothing I've smelled before but I think it's definitely part of the brewing process), it was comfortable and fun. The bartender was also from the suburbs of Chicago, so we bonded over that. I always appreciate a suburban kid from my area. They had a live band (violin/guitar) starting about the time we were leaving, and they had a nice sound. My friends got a huge sampler (10 samples) and they seemed to like most of them. We took home a growler of the Rednecker, so I guess we liked something out of the bunch! read more

Love the amount of space at this brewery! You can sit on the sidewalk patio, inside (which had excellent air conditioning on a hot summer day), or in the back outside area which has picnic tables and a nice little stage for live music! The beer was just right! I like that they have some staples and some rotating options to try. Staff was very friendly. Restroom was clean. Dog friendly will always be a plus in my book! I couldn't have thought of a more perfect brewery myself. The staff, the beer, the patrons, the live music, the events, the space, pours, beer garden. It is my favorite place in town and it has not disappointed. Not once. In fact it keeps getting better. The ONLY thing it lacks? A dart board.
