Great experience! We have a food allergy child and eating out is often exhausting, stressful and unpleasant. The staff was awesome! We let them m know before they sat us that we had a food allergy to ensure we would be able to eat there - they couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. It was a great experience, and albeit 40 minutes from home we would absolutely make the trip to eat there again. Burgers were awesome! We had 3 different ones and none of them disappointed. My husband heard that this restaurant recently opened for brunch. For starters we had Civil Donut holes. They are must!!! Made with donut mix and sweet potato, lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar accompanied by a buttermilk syrup. I had the risotto and eggs. Comes with veggies. For me, it needed a bit more Parmesan cheese since this was the salt component of the dish. I got a few perfect bites, but the rice wasn't my fave. My husband order the petit filet & eggs. I didn't try it, but he order the steak Medium and said it was perfect. Prices are resonable. Definite future visits in our future. Ambiance is funny. Music is funky and light. They adjusted crab omelette to my needs and I got amazing egg whites omelette stuffed with real crab meat,delicious!!! Our party got huevos rancheros and avocado toast. Not the kind of restaurant you would expect to find in a crowded shopping center next to a movie theater- I was impressed and I am looking forward to going back! I came here last night with a group of friends, unfortunately they don't offer reservations or waitlist through Yelp. I would definitely come back more if they did! They do have reservations through another site that I had never heard of, but I didn't feel like making a new account for a new site and download a new app only for this one experience. We were a group of six and chose Civil Libation to enjoy after a day at the Neptune Festival. Our server was great! He had one hiccup when there was somehow a communication issue with one of our orders. It was corrected and at the end of the meal, not a big deal. He checked on us frequently, keeping our drink orders coming and helping us choose between items on the menu. Drinks- I enjoyed the Yellow Fever cocktail and the Giggle Juice mocktail. I preferred the flavor of the Giggle Juice, but both were excellent! The Purple Rain mocktail was also a big hit at our table. Their drink menu is adorable and the cocktail creations are out there enough so you know you are getting something unique to CL, but not too far out there that you can't find something in your cocktail-comfort zone. I really want to come here after a movie for one of their "good night kiss" dessert cocktails. They all sounded amazing and I love that they use Three Ships Coffee in two of them! Apps- I let the table decide what apps to get since they all sounded good. They of course chose the three items I was least excited about, but they were all good. The grilled rustic bread was a great start to the meal and was my favorite of the three apps we tried. We also tried the squash rings. They were good, and the first clean plate at the table. Finally, we got the sweet potato fries. We all agreed that the cherry bbq ranch tasted like a dip made out of BBQ lays- in a good way though! Tasty- but not something I would get again. Mains (sorta)- I was really hoping that my table would have gone for the scallops and street corn app, but when they didn't I decided to order it as part of my meal. They do have a full meal version with greens, but I instead opted to pair it with the Peach and Burrata Caprese. I feel like burrata is hard to find on a menu in Coastal Virginia, so I was excited to enjoy it on my salad. Both items were very good. I would have appreciated the street corn having more of an elote flavor with chili-lime seasoning and cotija cheese. Maybe that wouldn't have tasted food with the scallops though. It was very tasty! The caprese was lightly dressed which made my leftovers still enjoyable the next day for lunch. I really appreciated that they use eco-friendly to-go containers instead of styrofoam. A unique menu, done very well. They prices accurately reflect the quality of the food and drinks. There were even multiple options for the gluten-free/vegan person in our group. We decided to try a new place, a good friend posted a picture of some of their food and we had to try. We chose a Saturday late afternoon and it turned out to be the perfect time, it was filling up for Saturday night diners. From the moment we arrived we were taken care of. Everyone was friendly and helpful to our needs, college football day. Our food came out fairly quickly but omg...everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned just as well. Stumbeled upon this hidden gem as I was scouring the area for a quick bite to eat before my movie started. Its bigger inside than what it looks like on the outside and very spacious with modern decor. I ended up at the bar with a Moscow mule and some steak rolls, which were a tad bit greasy. ( I'm guessing there deep fried) not sure but they were pretty damn good. They came with a dipping sauce that was an interesting mixture of jalapeno , bacon , and Ketchup. We have been to Civil Libation many times and have always had excellent service and amazing food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Today, Maddie was our bartender/server today and she greeted us immediately, took our order quickly, and made sure we were well looked after with a wonderful personality. My husband doesn't like onions, so she ensured the cook did not include them in the dish, but she went the extra mile--she was mindful enough to not even top the dish with the chives before bringing out our food. I know that seems like not such a big deal, but that shows she is thinking about her patrons, and we appreciated that. We will be back and highly recommend Civil Libation to whomever is reading this! read more

My family and I just finished up dinner here about an hour ago and everything was amazing! I mean it... actually everything. The service was certainly 5 stars. Everyone was very accommodating and kind. Food - fantastic. The portions are generous. The beet salad is worth getting. My dad asked if they could "Pittsburgh a steak," which they were able to do. It's basically burnt on the outside and rare-medium rare on the inside. He was very happy with it. The cinnamon bread pudding was seriously way better than you could have ever thought it would be. It tasted like a cinnamon roll but just the middle x10. One of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Please keep this on the menu! Everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh. The flavors were thoughtful and inspiring. Great atmosphere. This place would be perfect for a date, special occasion or just when you feel like grabbing a bite to eat. I heard that the cocktails (I did not partake, but my family did,) were absolutely perfect as well. This place did not disappoint one bit! We will definitely be coming back. I was not only impressed with the ambiance, layout, and customer service...I was extremely impressed with the cocktails and the appetizers. Seating was enough to seat small to larger groups, several booths and a long 15-20 person table available in the bar area (also several bar spots. Additional booths and tables were available if a quieter seating was what you desired. Ambiance was very pleasant, chill, casual but also a place you could go on a date. Menu offered soups, salads, sandwiches (try the lobster roll) as well as appetizers (try the lobster bibs) and main courses (prime rib anyone?) It's not a large selection, but the options that are available are quite delicious! Service was excellent, professional and courteous. Service was a solid 5 stars - food is about 2-3 so I'm settling on a 3.5 for now. Stopped in with my husband this past weekend after walking around at the Neptune Festival for a few hours and we were starving. The inside is different from their sister site - Whiskey Kitchen - it's a bit more upscale, less pub. Parking is the large shared shopping lot for the movie theater and there is bar seating with high-tops and high booths and seating on the other side of the bar with custom booths and tables. They have happy hour every single day which includes appetizers so I chose to try the scallops, the macaroni and cheese and the ahi tuna stack. My favorite my far was the stack - it was really delicious with yummy chips. The scallops were way too salty for my liking and the spicy mac was bland and weird texture with the vegan cheese. For my entree I chose to go light (ha) since I'd ordered three sides so I went with the burrata salad - it was a pretty steep price at something like $11 if I remember right and I asked for more cucumber and tomato and said they could charge me if need be because I wanted a lot. It was light and fresh and delicious and tossed in a yummy olive oil dressing - but it wasn't very large so if that had the extra veggies I'd have probably been disappointed with the portion size without them. My husband ordered the prime rib and I think he was hoping it was going to be more like pot roast like the WK version but this was a huge and generous portion of prime rib as a slab and had a lot of fat on it - he tried to eat a few bites and cut though it but, like me, it grosses him out and he can't eat it. He asked before he ordered how much fat it had and was told it wasn't a lot - so he was disappointed but he hates to complain and have to talk to managers and deal with people. So instead, he ate his french fries and stacked plates on top of the meat bc he didn't want to deal. Obviously our server noticed after he cleared the plates so he came back to ask what was wrong - my husband just said it was too fatty. So the owner came over to speak to us and comped his entree - which I think was about $25 or so. She was very sweet - we know her a bit from seeing her around WK - and she spoke to us about the restaurant and what she's trying to accomplish and asked us to come back but said she'll always try to make customers happy and if my husband didn't see something he wanted or like what he got to always tell her so she can make it right. Excellent customer service - for real. This place will no doubt update menus and other things along the way - I hope it is successful but the overall menu and vibe is not for me. I can totally see how this place has a wait list on the weekends. There are several other restaurants nearby so it is obvious that on Friday and Saturday night it will be a bit of a wait to get in. But I'm here to tell ya, it's worth the wait. Head to the bar and order a round while you wait. We started the night off with the squash rings, which we devoured! Then we ordered the mixed beet salad, which the kitchen staff split for us. Thank you so much for that, Civil Libation! It's the small things that make a difference! Then we ordered the Salmon Chimichurri (I substituted the broccoli for the greens) and the Veggie Bowl. Both were very delicious. For dessert we had the bred pudding. A fresh concept restaurant/cocktail bar recently opened their doors at the Strawbridge Marketplace in Virgina Beach. I checked them out twice in the same week during their 4-6 Happy Hour that currently offer $2 off everything on the menu. The location affords plenty of guest parking and I found the lot and walk up to the business clear of debris. The restaurant is positioned in a strip with a crisp white sign does not seem fitting with adjacent stores. Nevertheless I like it. My host Sebastian both times was possibly the most personable I've had the pleasure. He conducted a little tour with it being my first time and undecided on where to sit. The bar accommodates around 14 customers and has an attractive hard surface concrete counter. A communal table in front of the bar offers seating for 12. Booths are along the window. But that's not all. A larger dining space with combination table/chairs with booths is your more family location. Unisex restrooms are off the bar and I found them tidy with proper supplies. A nice touch is automated trash can lids. Delynda & Kevin Rowell former owners of Burton's Grill at the Beach opened Whiskey Kitchen two years ago in Strawbridge. Whiskey has been a smashing success in an area lacking quality full service local eateries. It did not take long after the launch of Whiskey Kitchen for the couple to bat around the idea for a new smaller space. A cocktail bar they themselves would want to hang and sip on craft cocktails with friends. But as Delynda told me it would also need to have strong bites too! They even went as far as commissioning pieces of artwork from a friend and LA artist Robert Pokorny to provide the desired feel for the dining room. Two cocktails were enjoyed on different visits. The drink menu designed in-house by April is a beautiful work of art that resembles a watercolor. A framer I say. It's in the cosmos / fresh limes, watermelon, Grand Mariner, cranberry juice & Citron Vodka. Super refreshing and I could sip on these all day. Hotsy-Totsy / fresh watermelon lemons, & jalapeños chili lime, salt rim, Citron Vodka, agave nectar. Looking for spicy this is a great call. Not one I would personally order again due to the heat level. Two food items were ordered over my multiple visits. The cocktails may appear the hero of the bar do not play second fiddle to the food. I found both dishes assembled nicely and darn tasty. Pimento BLT / pimento, lettuce, tomato & bacon on toasted white bread. Side of fries. The sandwich although simple was perfectly executed and scrumptious! Kale & Crimini Burger / House made veggie burger, smoked gouda cheese, sweet & spicy roasted tomato chutney, ciabatta. Side salad. Veggie lovers take notice...AWESOMENESS! You can find vegan options on the menu as well as gluten free. Three desserts were tried. The thin pie shaped chocolate tort was an immediate miss for me. The fudge texture was flavorless. I later found out that this is a gluten free option for guest. If this had been mentioned by Patty I would have declined. The bread pudding with scoop of vanilla also offered at Whiskey Kitchen was a miss. I found it overly bready with no moisture and lacking necessary flavor in a traditional bread pudding treat. Third time a charm was a fabulous strawberry shortcake. Fresh Pungo strawberries with in-house flaky shortcake. Yum! The near perfect service by Patty at the communal table on my first visit was by far stronger than my latter at the bar. Patty was spot on with every aspect of my service, not a step missed. She smiled, was professional and was a rockstar. When I had issues with my desserts she quickly remedied it and they were removed from the bill. My second visit was plagued with issues of water refills, dishes not being cleared and a tardy bill. Also no follow up to my meal until I was bites away from finishing. The young man was nice, however distracted. To make matters worse was the jerk who sat beside me that was loud and tossing out obscenities. I wish this would have been controlled by management. However, I do not believe bar staff alerted managers for the gentleman to control his behavior. Civil Libation I'm loving the name and vibe just into your second week. Came here for an informal hangout with a couple of fellow yelpers, and I was very pleased with my experience here. The Hole-in-One cocktail was great. It was sweet; however, not too sweet with just the right amount of alcohol in it to loosen me up after working all day. The Squash rings were a very unique appetizer that I've never had before. The squash is layered in panko crumbs and fried in almond milk and served with a chipolte aïoli on the side. The aïoli was every thing, I had ordered extra on the side to go with my burger, and speaking of the burger it was delicious and juicy, no complaints from me. One visit and I'm impressed! A girlfriend and I came in for a Saturday night dinner and were so happy with our drinks/food/service. First thing to note- they had a small menu of NONalcoholic mixed drinks! Not many places will even advertise this, instead I would have to rely on a bartender to make me something fruity or whatever. I loved this and wish more places would follow suit! For food/drinks we got: Flaming hot mac and cheetos- this was good mac and cheese, but the hot cheetos were kinda whatever- didn't really lend a lot to the flavor of the mac n cheese itself Scallops and corn- I wasn't too hungry so I got this to eat for my main course. Three juicy scallops were perfectly cooked and lay atop a ton of Mexican street corn. This was so good!! I would definitely recommend the entree version if you're hungry! Sweet potato fries with cherry BBQ ranch- good crispy fries, but I thought the ranch was a little too sweet for my taste. My friend really enjoyed the ranch though. I also tried a bite of my friend's shrimp cakes and they were pretty tasty! These were a large portion and she ended up taking home most of it cause she couldn't finish it. Parking was easy although a little packed because of the busy movie theater next door. I would definitely come back for another date night! read more
