A favorite pit stop on my way to work or during the rare occasion I'm off site and get to pick up a mid day caffeine. This spot is friendly, offers plenty of fancy coffee and pastries to your liking. I work in public education and one time was even able to score some free pastries for a school celebration we had for our students! But thats not the only reason why my colleagues and I frequent this place, though it is a thoughtful gesture. Parking can be difficult, as its limited to street. I was hoping for a good, satisfying chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, the Lemongrass Chicken Sandwich didn't come close enough. It was tiny and not much inside. And the bread was just tough to bite. Being a Sunday, the bakery was pretty buzzy with a bit of line. Luckily there's a patio in the back with ample seats. I went on a weekday morning, it was still busy with people. You order at the counter and they give you your pastries. They bring your drinks to your table with the number they give you. I ordered the Matcha chocolate croissant, foccacia, Swedish vanilla bun & strawberry danish. I loved the matcha chocolate croissant- the chocolate/earthy combination came together beautifully. The focaccia bread was soft- you could tell it was fresh. The Swedish vanilla bun was mildly sweet and would be great with a coffee or tea. The strawberry danish was sweet and refreshing with the fresh fruit. The iced matcha latte ratio didn't balance- it was more milk than matcha flavor for me. Enjoyed a nice brunch/lunch pastry spread here, it was easy to find street parking and they had a really nice patio with ample seating outside and some tables inside as well. You stand in line to order and take a number to your table if you're dining in and they bring you your drinks and made-to-order things, and you bring your own pastries etc to the table yourself. My personal favorites were the strawberry danish and the matcha chocolate croissant, really flavorful and flaky and fresh. There are stations where you can get your own utensils and napkins as well as to-go boxes for your leftovers and you bus your own table when you're finished. The vibes are very chill overall and the staff was very friendly. I went around 11ish and was happily surprised they still had a good number of pastries, I was worried they'd be all sold out of the things I wanted to try by that time of the morning. The one thing I was honestly disappointed in was the lemonade, it was somehow watered down and also extremely tart at the same time and even adding packets of sugar didn't save it. Fresh bread! Bakery selection is pretty good. The atmosphere has a coffee shop vibe but they are heavy on food here with a Breakfast and Lunch menu. While I was waiting for my tuna melt sandwich I saw several salads being made so when ate my tuna melt I understood why I saw so many salads. Of course the person making my sandwich could've had a bad day but my melt was soggy. Even the outer edges were nearly soggy. Plus the cheese they put on the melt is grated cheese instead of a slice. I'll start this review with a disclaimer, I'm a bread snob and I only buy my bread from local bakeries. This place has been on my to-go list for quite a while, I pass it all the time as it's on a busy street but this time I made an intentional trip to go during lunch time. I went on a weekday and assumed it was be busy as most restaurants are, but this wasn't an unpleasant trip at all! The lot was full but I found free street parking very easily and didn't have to walk far. When I came in I was greeted by some friendly staff and the line wasn't too long. They have their bread on display for grab and go on the shelf by the register. I grabbed the spelt sourdough and asked for it to be sliced. I also got the California club sandwich. The sandwich was on honey wheat which was very tasty but the sandwich overall was pretty decent, the best thing was the house made sauce. Next time I'll try something from the bakery. They have quite a selection of pastries and treats. I took my food to go, but if you'd prefer to diner in, there's ample shaded outdoor seating. The bread: the spelt sourdough bread tastes homemade and healthy. It's good as avocado toast or plain. It's got a tougher outer crust but very soft and moist on the inside. read more

This bakery closes at 3PM. They don't sell half-loaves so I got a whole loaf, which is large. It was delicious... and we ended up finishing the whole loaf quickly so I guess it worked out that they don't sell halves. LOL There is no line in the afternoon. Makes sense since their baked goods really are great for breakfast with your coffee. Amazing place to have a lunch date with your friends (and they're baby friendly). I arrived a little later so the party selection was low. Snagged a chocolate matcha croissant swirl (matcha taste still present), Swedish vanilla bun (a little on the sweeter side but so fluffy) and monkey bread (sweet, crunchy outside, soft fluffy inside). This review is for the Beverly Hills location. I stopped in today while on my bakery tour to sample some delicious pastries and bread. Parking is very tough here but they do have a few spaces and a valet. Service is warm and friendly and the employees are extremely helpful. I got a loaf of delicious country white bread and enjoyed it at home with sea salt butter and strawberry preserves-the breakfast of champions! I also loved the chocolate croissant that was flakey and buttery. The star of the show, and possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten, was the cinnamon monkey bread. I can't even begin to explain the buttery, crunchy, cinnamon outside and the chewy buttery inside. The sweet and savory works so well here. Honestly this monkey bread would be part of my last supper! Moving to L.A. from NYC meant saying goodbye to many things I loved growing up. One of them was bread. Not just any old loaf, but hand-made, from scratch, slow-rise, organic chewy crust, tender crumb moist and melt-in -your-mouth artisan bread. So, I have spent years crawling from bakery to bakery trying to find something that even comes close to what you can find at, for example, Zabars. Long story short, it's here at Clark Street. I am on a mission to identify all the good patisseries in the greater Los Angeles area, partially for myself and in part to take to events. Along the way, I stumbled on Clark Street. What a fortuitous find. We had no expectations, set off thinking we might be lucky to get a couple of decent croissants or buns, forgetting that this place also offers a full breakfast/brunch/lunch menu. So, when we pulled up (only took 29 minutes from my house) in front, just as someone was pulling out, I took it as a good omen. A beautiful shady, breezy spot with indoor/outdoor tables and a large interior space with a big list of offerings and a full array of pastries, both savory and sweet, even toward the late afternoon which, for a bakery, often means selling out most of the best products. Not here. I almost screamed with happiness, collected my wits, and started ordering left and right. Then I saw it, my litmus test for any sandwich shop: egg salad. OMG, I had to have it and it was perfect. I got a latte, and then a strawberry Danish (calorific but a creamy dream). I also picked up a dozen enormous pastries for so little money that I thought they had rung up the tab wrong. Nope, for all this home made goodness, they charge so reasonably. They truly have a mission to provide the best quality food at prices the ordinary person can afford. In a clean and lovely, refreshing setting where people feel free to sit and dawdle (or work) on their laptops all afternoon, you just relax and breathe in the beautiful Echo Park weather, just yards from its eponymous lake. For the past few years, I have generally liked Clark Street Bakery well enough. However, the past couple of times I've been in there I have noticed a definite change in the tone and tenor of this establishment. Too many employees in there have too much snooty attitude and their prices have become stupidly out of sync with their products. I would like to take this opportunity to loudly call out the short Hispanic female manager who needs to check her award-winningly crappy ass attitude, stat! I went in today to ask if they had any day old bread because I want to make stuffing for Thanksgiving. I received a wave of attitude so toxic from this woman it was all I could do to refrain from unleashing an F bomb loudly right in her contemptuous face. She sneered at me as if to say "how dare you even deign to ask about day old bread in an up market bakery like this". Well excuse me for living your royal highness. It's not like I asked for it for free. Even after that highly unpleasant and unnecessarily nuanced exchange,, I still intended to buy a loaf of bread there and saw a large but not huge round loaf of bread on the bread shelf which I thought would've done very nicely. So I picked it up and placed it in front of the cashier. He rang up this loaf of peasant bread and informed me it was going to cost $20.60. No, that was not a typo. You would think I was purchasing a homemade chocolate cake! At lightning speed, that loaf of bread was back on their shelf and I was on the street heading back to my car to drive straight to Bread Lounge in the Arts district where I ended up buying a far superior loaf of bread for $13. This experience today was very instructive and I only need to be taught once. I will be driving the extra half a mile to go to Bread Lounge from now on whenever I need nice bread. Due to the fact that Clark Street bakery sees their customers as prey, I will now be making a point of skipping over this place, their bitter customer-resenting managers, and their usurious stratospheric bread prices. 3 stars for the bread I tried. 4 stars for the employees. Was filming in the area and kept seeing people driving up just to get some bread then leave. We thought, "must be some amazing bread if people drive just for it!" We spoke to a woman who had bought some bread and she vouched for it & said the Swedish rolls were a good choice. So we went over and got some. I was hesitant on the Saffron Swedish bun, and the male employee was kind enough to ask if I wanted to try it. I thought he was going to cut a piece but he gave me the whole bun! I took a very timid bite and decided I liked it. I also got the cinnamon roll bun even though he suggested the vanilla one was better. After leaving I took a good bite of both and decided I liked the saffron one more than the cinnamon one surprisingly. Oddly though, once I got home and ate them, I realized the cinnamon one was still just ok (I should've known better, I don't really like cinnamon rolls I only love Cinnabon specifically) and the saffron one was actively nasty to me. Like it made me feel queasy. I didn't even want to smell it anymore so I tossed it. Idk maybe I'm allergic to it or something but my body actively rejected it. I first went to this bakery as a part of the company that did the expansion construction / remodel contractor.They have a wonderful staff, and a good ambiance on the front patio. Food is excellent, normally service is great. Today changed everything. I ordered food in advance and went to pick it up. I order from here frequently. I made eye contact with and smiled at the man handling the to-go orders. He ignored me, so I waited patiently as the only person in line, even though I saw my food order ready for me. In walks a male customer, and the male worker immediately addresses him and has him cut me in line. This man's food was not ready yet, but he still had him wait in line in front of me and refused to assist me or acknowledge me. I waited a few more minutes, grabbed my food, and left. I expect better from Clark Street and won't be supporting this business if they are going to treat their customers like they are invisible. read more

Reason it's not a 5 star and a 4 stay is because My only form of advice is maybe have a sign that says "Restroom key in the front" or "ask for restroom key in the front . especially on days that it's super busy with a long line , as anew customer who has never been before this might be helpful ... I'm trying to watch my carb intake, and it blows that outta the water and has me pulling out a compound butter, over the sink eating bread every time. We killed a bag of the chips while waiting, and got another for the actual sando! EVERYTHING was fabulous! But also VERY rich, so be mindful if that's not your thing. The pork was perfect, the bread was epic and it all worked perfectly together. Sharing is best, bc of richness and its filling af! The truffle crisps were the perfect accompaniment. Love Clark Street!!! Prob's my 5th time here in the last month & 1/2 since I landed. Every time I visit my Son this spot is a must do! The music is great, the employees are friendly and polite. The service was quick, which was a plus. I noticed they handle a lot of takeout orders, which speaks volumes. I also appreciate the mix of customers--it's not overrun by trendy TikTokers but neighborhood regulars. We had the Swedish Cinnamon Bun, Croissant, Avocado Toast, Grilled Cheese, and latte, all of which were delicious and made for the perfect Saturday lunch. I'm glad I tried it, Avocado with w a strong hint of lime and a little spicy w the red flakes. It was good, I'd eat it again for sure.
