First time at this restaurant with the husband. I really appreciated the awesome customer service from April. We told her it was our first time and she she patiently explained all the things they were known for. I liked the clam chowder, it was packed with clams. We loved how the staff worked together to ensure drinks were never empty. I like the coffee cake at Carolyn's but this little cinnamon muffin felt so much fresher and lighter. I'm going to give Clarkie's 3 stars, not because it's average or bad, but because I received an expensive, below average breakfast meal, and, generally, Clarkie's serves good food. I had a problem with one of my car's tires and had to have it fixed at the tire dealer next door, and since I hadn't eaten breakfast, while waiting for the tire repair, walked over to Clarkie's. I ordered "Bisquits and Gravey topped with two eggs over easy". The order came quickly. It looked good, but the biscuits were extremely dry and the gravy had no, zero sausage taste, something necessary for this dish. I'm not sure if this version of B and G is usually served this way, but if it is, they need work on the recipe and need to be certain that the biscuits are not dry (if they are, the cook should add some butter if no decent biscuits are available) and THERE MUST BE AT THE VERY MINIMUM, A SAUSAGE TASTE IN THE GRAVY. Actually, it needs little sausage pieces throughout the gravy. Clarkies is a decent restaurant and lots of people were enjoying their meals while I was there. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy mine. Maybe I should have sent the food back, but I was in a bit of a hurry and needed to get back to pick up my car as I had a long trip to take. read more

My husband ordered biscuits and gravy; I did try the gravy...it was delicious. it was silky and just the right amount of salt. Clarkies is another Family run, Family style Yucaipa/Calimesa Secret that everyone knows. If you haven't been to Clarkies, for the "Anything on the Memu" you ain't from around here....lol It's Fantastic service, make you feel right at home, and home style food. This is definitely the best spot for breakfast in town! You know you have found an amazing spot when it is consistently packed. You might have a little bit of a wait, but the staff is friendly and efficient. My favorite thing is the bacon, cheddar, jalapeño waffle! Now, this is not on the menu, but they will make it for you! They've been making it for me for years! The owner has even tried it and loves it! Really though, all their food is good. When you go, you must try the strudel! Had breakfast here for the first time this morning and left satisfied and stuffed! I had heard about the connection with Clarkies and Carolyns (Redlands), and having been to Carolyns several times I personally liked Clarkies better. The cinnamon streusel muffins are delicious - I think better than Carolyns coffee cake. The service was amazing; the coffee refiller person stopped by our table many times to ask about refills, and so did our waitress. The ambience is typical 'diner' - nothing fancy. Food was amazing. I had the corned beef hash and eggs and the hash was literally a freshly cooked corned beef shredded with potatoes. It was definitely homemade. My wife had the veggie scrambler and ate every bite which never happens. The streusel muffins are to die for. The service was exceptional. Baby-free zone. Just kidding. Look, I've been coming here for years and never had any issues with anything. That's why I keep coming back. Staff is very friendly (even the tattooed guys are very friendly). When I hear a baby cry or scream, it is normal. However, people should have common sense. If a baby screams persistently, take it outside. Everyone gets that unless it's a an unreasonable customer with no common courtesy having a bad day and taking it out on innocent employees. The owner came up to us at the table and told us we had to keep our one-year-old quiet because last time she was so loud she had to comp the food allay a table near us. My kid was squealing because she was HUNGRY and they took forever with our food. After explained the owner had the gall to tell us "yeah but no baby is ever that loud." Not nappy as in curly, but will make you feel comfortable and sleepy (nap-py; turned a verb into a pronoun). The big hoss and country fried steak will put you in a coma. Omelette, sandwiches, and even the muffin are all good. Now here's the little bit that gets me - their orange juice. The food is always tasty. From their plate size pancakes to their made-from-scratch corned beef hash and their homemade cinnamon strussel muffins... there is very little (if anything) to complain about at this place. The staff is always on point and friendly. The building is nicely accessible for handicap and those in wheelchairs. My one complaint (if I have to have one) is they need more parking. People have been known to park in the center median of the road just to eat here. read more
