They are most known for their breakfast/brunch menu, though their lunch offerings are also plentiful. The restaurant serves mainly diner-style food, with eggs and pancakes and waffles in the morning and salads and burgers and wraps in the afternoon. I love walking down and grabbing a table outside though I would suggest going a little early as it does get a little crowded from 11a onwards. While everything is always fresh and made to order, I always recommend their omelettes which usually comes with a side of toast and smashed potatoes. The portions are pretty generous and the staff are always attentive and kind. The service here is wonderful. Overall, it's the quintessential neighborhood joint that locals and sometimes tourists love to hang out at. read more

I wish I could like this place. We've lived in the neighborhood for over 40 years and by we stopped going to Clark's decades ago unless someone else requests it. We have a circle of Swiss and German friends who frequently come to the city, who seen immune to surly service (wonder why?) Today, with one of them, was just par for the course. It took three requests and 15+ minutes for my coffee to come after we sat down. When delivered - a moment before the food. I said "I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience". And was informed I needed to be patient and remember I'm an adult. Touché! I stood and stepped around the table and quietly told him he is an ass and an apology about the lack of coffee would have been nice. Needless to say, the coffee was not refilled. I opted for lunch while he opted for breakfast, so you get the best of both. I ordered the Southern Spicy Burger ($11) with Truffle Parmesan Fries ($9). I was hungry so I still ate everything, but the burger was burnt and dry while the fries were very simple with some Parmesan sprinkled on top. Great brunch place to check out with friends. The food was pretty good and didn't have to wait too long. Even though it was on the pricier side, we enjoyed the meal as it wasn't too salty or overpowering. The affogato was well made, but a bit on the sour side of coffee. The restaurant on a weekend morning was a bit tight in my opinion and pretty busy as you can imagine. Very few places where I spend countless minutes looking at the menu trying to narrow down what I wanted to try! We came to Clarks for breakfast and was not disappointed by the food and serving size (compared to the place we ate the day prior .. oop!) Our table ordered a variety of things. Nutella waffles, eggs benedict, eggs benedict on potato pancakes, and avocado toast! I was the one who ordered avocado toast lol I wanted something light and not too heavy but also craved potatoes so i got a side of potatoes. the potatoes though labeled as country fried came more like mashed meets hash browns. Still very good! The only con i had was the wait time to order and to pay. But it was a very day so that I understand. 5/5! The food here was good, relatively typical diner food but still decent prices especially for the area. I ordered the Reuben sandwich which was very tasty and fresh, which also came with an order of fries, pickles, and coleslaw. We were seated inside near very large windows, which was a very cute part of the restaurant that allowed for lots of people-watching. However, the service was VERY slow during a time when the restaurant itself wasn't very busy at all, which was a bit frustrating. Specifically, it took a very long time for us to get water refills and for all food orders to come out (after half our table's food got delivered, one person in my party was left without their food for almost 10 minutes). I headed to Yelp and found Clark's and boy, did it live up to it's reviews. Clark's was only about an 8-10 minute walk from our hotel. We were visiting on the weekend, so we called ahead, as we did not have a reservation. The staff told us we wouldn't have much of a wait if we were able to visit within 30 minutes. When we arrived, I knew we found the perfect mix of a diner (vibes my Mother-In-Law was craving), with a touch of cozy, Nonna's kitchen (what I wanted). The restaurant was decorated for the holidays, which made the ambiance that much better! The staff was SO friendly and welcoming! The restaurant was packed, and we were quickly greeted and seated within 10 minutes or so of arriving. As soon as we sat at our table, we were greeted with waters and offered coffee. There were four of us dining that morning, so we opted for a few different menu items. The menu is pretty large, and honestly, everything that we ordered was SO GOOD. Simple, but so tasty! Bottomless mimosas? I think so! A few breakfast platters and some pancakes and waffles later, we were full and ready to head out to the city for the day. But first...TO GO lattes that were just YUM and exactly what we needed for the chilly walk back to our hotel. If you're in town, Clark's is definitely a go-to spot to visit. My favorite brunch spot in Brooklyn Heights! I'm so thankful I discovered Clark's for brunch - I you really cannot ask for more. I've been twice now and both times were equally amazing. Both visits we arrived around 12pm on a Sunday and didn't have to wait to sit. Whether your inside or outside the vibe is great. Indoors has a beautifully kept fancy diner vibe - it's really really cute. Outdoors has spaced seating that feels comfortable and private. The people that eat here are mostly local to the neighborhood in causal morning leisure-ware. There are a lot of older customers you can tell have been coming here for decades! The staff are SO friendly and accommodating. Everyone from the manager, the seating hostess, our server - so polite. For coffee, you need to order the iced cappuccino! Espresso with a heaping amount of cold frothed milk with cinnamon. It's so decadent and totally worth ordering if you like iced coffees! The Benedict's are 1000% the way to go! You need to get Clark's Eggs which comes with a potato pancake, avocado, a poached egg, and hollandaise with a side of bacon. It's delicious and so satisfying - literally the perfect breakfast. I don't know why this place is rated so highly when everything is mediocre and if not, just not great at all. Honestly, never had been more dissatisfied about a breakfast like this before. I ordered the blueberry pie pancakes, which came with jalapeño in the pancake batter. Disgusting. The pancakes were nothing but plain with the blueberries all to the center of the pancake. If I wanted diner quality food, I would go to one. I wouldn't recommend this place for brunch or breakfast. A blueberry pie pancake stack for $16 is ridiculous when it looks like a $5 plate. I popped in after the gym last weekend for a quick homestyle breakfast. The owner greeted me quickly and sat me immediately despite they're being a huge wait because I was alone. They offer counter service, which is amazing and reminds me of being back home in the south. The food was absolutely incredible. And, I sincerely wanted to give a five star review; however, I can't help but feel a little slighted having been charged four dollars USD for honey with my pancakes (which was the same price as pure maple syrup). Full disclosure, the owner mentioned the cost of honey going up, but I wasn't able to validate that claim and the amount of honey I received simply could not have constituted that charge. That said, the diner is beautiful, the food is amazing, the crowd was energetic and the young lady walking throughout checking in on everyone is absolutely amazing (I forget her name). First time here , had to wait about 25 minutes outside the restaurant. For a two top .the menu is like a wide Wood board to look at , breakfast on one side and Lunch/Dinner in the other. Inside the place. Is very big for about 100 or so people. She ordered the patty Melt, it was cooked to her perfection.. I ordered the Avocado, Turkey bacon with Swiss cheese. and. Side of Whole wheat toast. The food was DELICIOUS and I had a piece of her Patty Melt and THAT was very good also . My dish came w/ home fries. Which is made the right way . The hostess was vey helpful in telling us the wait time and where to go sit at for out mar food. The pancakes here look so delicious maybe next time I get that . The ambiance is cool in here. This place does have it a balance issues with certain dishes once in awhile such as ooooo perhaps bacon quality or even what waterier you get (there all decent at least but a few are stellar and I want them!) but overall this is a hidden gem of very few real diners left in this city with any form of CLASS. It's music is fantastic, it's food is almost always a full guarantee of very fair to good prices on exceptional what is considered diner fare. Burger is A! Pasta looks very good ive get to try...but I've seen many happy customers. And other fares such as special coffees and grilled cheeses are just down right GREAT. The staff is friendly, attentive, and fast. Every dish is outstanding. I've tried everything from omelets to pancakes and hamburgers. Everything is delicious. We even trudged through a terrible snowstorm to eat here once, thinking that it wouldn't be crowded. We still had to wait 15 minutes! This is an absolute gem in Brooklyn. read more

Oh, Clark's- What an institution. Truly one of the best places to eat in the Heights or really in Brooklyn. This is comfort food served classy. Too bad their hours are a little short as of late; but yes, it's understandable with the current situation. The night I went to Clark's it was cold, windy, and a bit dreary so my group and I were in definite need of warmth and sustenance. And thankfully, Clark's provided this in spades. As we walked into the brightly lit, cozy restaurant we were immediately greeted quite nicely by the Host- yep, no hipster condescension here; and seated near the windows. Menus and water were brought right away; and gleefully we ordered soon afterwards. Once again, no judgement from our Server despite how much, and even juvenile our order was. In fact the gentleman seemed rather amused we were willing to indulge ourselves. The soup, wrap and fries I ordered came out pretty fast, and everything was delicious. The chicken noodle soup was savory, with a good amount of vegetables and shredded chicken in it. I appreciated how the pasta in the soup was thin, and not too starchy. The disco fries I ordered were satisfying too without it being overwhelming or greasy. It probably helped that the fries were on the thinner side, and that the gravy was not lumpy. However, the Chicken Caesar Wrap was definitely the MVP in the line up. The chicken itself was very juicy and moist, and the sauce/dressing for the wrap was fantastic- creamy with Mediterranean flavor undertones. I also tried some of the blueberry pancakes (It's okay as long as you share...I think), and boy, were they a treat! They were light and fluffy, and literally the size of the plates they were served on. What more could you ask for? - the check, which our Waiter was prompt with as well. In fact, so prompt be ready to know how much you want to tip, as they seem to employ a mobile cash register these days -at least for cards. They say Clark's is where the Prosecutors, Judges, etc. dine versus the Cadman Plaza diners where their adversaries eat. I guess it really does pay to sometimes be on the 'right' side of the law. If you're looking for a classic NYC diner style experience for breakfast, this place does the trick. If you're looking for a place that bakes their own bread and muffins, this isn't it. There are places like that in the area, but they tend to not have extensive menu options and that's what we wanted today. My friend and I kept things simple and both got two eggs, meat and home fries. The eggs were nicely cooked, as was the bacon. The home fries/hash browns were disappointing as there was only a bit of crisp on the top -- the potatoes inside the pile were mushy and flavorless. My friend had specifically requested crunchy home fries, so they at least could have kept it on the flat top longer or moved the potatoes around a bit to crisp things up. I guess when you're a busy place with a short-order-cook-style, you crank it out and don't really have time to customize. That said, Clark's, you need to up your home fries game overall! The multi-grain toast that came with mine was good, not over-toasted and super dry which happens at some places. My friend had to skip the toast as she can't have gluten (she doesn't have celiac, so not uber sensitive like some people, but it still irritates her system). A bummer that Clark's has no GF bread option (whatever the format -- bagel, English muffin or sliced bread). While I typically wouldn't expect a diner to, this is Brooklyn where the awareness around this is high and so many people need some sort of GF option these days. The place was hopping, but the service was still prompt, so they get props for that. I am not likely to return, only because I typically prefer something more home-made tasting on the rare occasion I go out for breakfast. Clark's served today's purpose just fine and I can see why it's popular when one wants a broad selection (they serve all day, not just breakfast) and a diner-like atmosphere. How would I compare Clark's to your standard diner? I guess you can say it's a more dressed up version of its brother. Once you walk in, you're greeted with purplish burgundy red leather seating and dark brown stained wood. Although it looks tight once you walk through the doorway, don't let that fool you - more seating is available in the room to your left side. Food is pretty good - can't go wrong with American classics. What I loved most were those truffle fries, though! Mmhmm, delicious! Would recommend this place if you need to meet one on one with someone for a quick luck in the area. My cousin made reservations but I don't think you'll find that necessary. :) read more

Dragged a bestie here for brunch on a Sunday morning and the vibe was honestly just like a small-town-best-place-to-be kind of feel. The service was amazing and we got seated within 15 minutes at a cute little booth. The entire place was decked out in holiday decor, making it feel even cozier than it already does. Every breakfast mix, flatbread, wrap, brunch thing, savoury mix, all the eggs and sausages you could wish for. My friend and I got the big breakfast and the corned hash & eggs. This diner is a bit on the pricey side, but that is to be expected since it is located on prime historic real estate in Brooklyn Heights. But, thankfully, the food makes up for the price sting.
