I'm leaving 1 star because that's as low as it will let me go. Ok to start with one of my credit card companies is always sending me ads about this place and the reviews are always good and right on the front page of the ad is a picture of a barbecue sandwich and it looks awesome so I'm ready to get it as soon as I get there but wait the waitress says we don't have one so me and my wife decided well we will just get something else, big mistake both of the meals we got sucked so bad I wouldn't feed it to a dog and the fries wow most were cold and very under cooked and when the waitress sees both of our plates are still about full she said do you want a to go box and I said why just to throw it in the garage. And my wife being the sweet and wonderful person she is just said no we didn't really like it and I said the fries are still cold from not being cooked completely. I had high hopes for this place and then when I went to leave my review on their site that's when I found out why they have such good reviews, you have to be a member of their club and they have the right to delete any reviews they don't like. Ok so another hotel staff member recommended this place. I had done a lot of walking the day prior and decided I needed an actual breakfast though I typically do not eat a big breakfast. I thought Clary's was close To one of the local attractions I was going to visit so decided to give it a shot. When I arrived, it was clearly a popular location as there were tons of people dining and waiting to be seated. I was able to be seated right away because I was dining alone. I was seated at the bar. Important to mention. I will say up front thag perhaps this place is just not my cup of tea. I get it.. it's a diner type place. If i have been seated outside, perhaps my review would be different. So the waitress was attentive . No complaints there . I'll give 3 star for service . I don't eat pork so I often don't have options for breakfast meats. And because i wanted a protein I decided to get a crab cake eggs Benedict with potatoes and orange juice . The potatoes were plain.. just potatoes. No onion, peppers and I didn't taste any seasoning . The crabcske Benedict was below average. I'm from Maryland so i don't often get crabcskes when I'm not in Maryland. They were just meh. Cleanliness - The thing that caused me to lose my appetite and not eat any more of my food is because sitting at the counter I realized the restaurant is really not as clean as I would like or should be really . I was up close and personal and just saw dirt.. on lots of things. One of the pitchers for the water looked like it needed to just be tossed. It's really just disgusting . And so if the front of the restaurant where customers can clearly see is this gross I hate to think about what the back looks like.. I understand that the restaurant is old but it could really stand a deep deep deep cleaning. Like close the place and get it together .. Totally bomb diner! Excellent service, excellent food and great diner vibe. I am a corned beef hash snob and this was some of the best I have ever had. Not trying to be too pretentious, just being what it is...good comfort breakfast food. First bite of the steak taken from across the table and I hear "that is a good steak." One of those gotta go places. 1903!!! Country Fried Steak is well done, with the gooey gravy (I got it on the side) and perfectly prepared over medium fried eggs. Two tips. Ordering one of their eggs benedict dishes? Specify how you want the eggs otherwise they serve the eggs not runny yolk. And... American omelet with bacon literally has a strip of bacon in the middle. And tzakiti was well spread throughout. Lots of restaurants could take a lesson on that. Wife got the chicken Philly. Chicken was tasty but bread was a little dry. Kids "one egg" was definitely like two and came with 2 pieces of sausage so a good amount of food for our child. Service was okay. The texture was monotone.. the pancakes were big but there was not much protein to go with anything. They charged us 7$ for two coffees.. seems crazy to me.... What a find! Welcoming homestyle diner type luncheonette open for breakfast & lunch only. If you see a wait outside, it's worth it. Tables turn over pretty quickly. We were a party of 5. Large crowd waiting outside of restaurant, we were seated in 15 minutes. It is difficult to find a lunch spot in this section of Savannah as it's more residential than anything. We had just finished SCAD tour, and this spot wasn't too far. Fun fact: If you're a fan of the book or film, Midnight in the garden of Good & Evil, this restaurant is in the film. They had many photos of John Cusack in the movie on the walls. Fast friendly service with a smile, and outstanding food with tremendous portions is what you will experience at Clary's I had the California Reuben and can honestly say it's the best hot sandwich I have ever had. Tender, juicy roasted Turkey with slaw, cheese and Russian dressing. Sandwich was huge and I ate it all! My daughter got oatmeal and the portion plus the fruit, cream and sugar it came with she could barely put a dent. Chicken salad sandwich was amazing. Regular Reuben was also huge Breakfast, lunch, salads..good variety. Everything homemade and you can taste the love! When I write a review, I try to size the place up so that I level myself. Most every place has strong points and weak points. I feel that we do not approach things this way, many places wouldn't have a shot. I enjoyed the walk to Clary's from where I was staying. Savannah is a beautiful city. As you walk into Clary's, you notice a traditional diner-style seating bar and you see a coke cooler and a horizontal freezer. Supplies are scattered around and not hidden. I felt awkward taking pictures, but I snapped one from the end of the bar as an example. It is organized, yet somehow out of place seeming. This goes with my assessment of the atmosphere. The atmosphere inside Clary's is nothing to write home about. I like this place because it is local, though! The atmosphere is a blend of forced old city because the building is old and likely a tight budget. There is very little décor; inside is practical but cluttered and stuck in time. As you sit at the bar the loudest noise you here is music emanating from the kitchen. It seems to keep the servers in good spirits, and they are all happy. I saw a jukebox, but is is mid-80s vintage. I realize they are limited with what they have to work with, but all in all the atmosphere is an average hodgepodge of stuff. Atmosphere is three stars. The place is clean y'all! I saw people leave and within two minutes the dishes were gone and a fellow had everything off the table area and was scrubbing it like it was his own. Five stars for that. Too often thing look clean or smell clean and that is all you have to go on. This place is all of the above. The orange juice is from a machine that you would use on a cruise ship...so it comes out of bags and they go through no effort to hide that. The coffee is freshly ground, freshly brewed, and great, though. The food was exactly what I asked for and it arrived within ten minutes. It was fresh, and it was good. Four stars for the food--I came here for Eggs Benedict & coffee, and I wasn't disappointed. The price was acceptable--not low and not high for what I had. Four stars. That is everything supporting my four star review of Clary's. If you want a clean place, good service, good food, and a decent price...this could be your place. If atmosphere is important to you, you may want to sit outside or go somewhere else. read more

Clary's Cafe was a suggestion from a childhood friend of mine and I'm so glad she suggested it. It was the best breakfast we had out of the four days me and my mom were in Savannah. We were sat pretty quickly and our server was pretty fast at greeting us and getting our drink orders. To start, I ended up ordering their Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun. For my main order, I got the Oglethorpe special that came with Two Buttermilk Pancakes (I added Pecans inside them), Two Eggs Scrambled with Cheese, Sausage Patties, Breakfast Potatoes, and an English Muffin. My mom ordered their Waffle Supreme with Whipped Cream and Strawberries on top with a side of their Ham. The Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun was so good. It came out warm and it was so delicious. It had the perfect amount of caramel and pecans on it...not too much, not too little. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. When I got my main order, I was missing my pancakes (and as I write this review I realize that I never got my English Muffin either). I still dug in while waiting for it though. The Eggs with Cheese were good, but it would have been better if they were cooked just a little longer. I'd still give them an 8 out of 10. The Breakfast Potatoes were a little lacking in seasoning/flavor, kinda bland. I'd give those a 6 out of 10. Now, the Sausage Patties were good. You could taste the seasonings in the patties and they were cooked perfectly (not overcooked or undercooked). I'd give those patties a good 9 out of 10. My mom didn't like her Waffle with the Strawberries. So, I gave her my Pancakes when they came out. She enjoyed them and I tasted some of it. They were overall good. I'd give the Pancakes an 8 out of 10. My mom gave the Ham a 9.5 out of 10...she loved it! So, overall the customer service was good (8 out of 10) and the food was good, as you can see above. If they didn't forget my Pancakes and English Muffin at first, I might have possibly given them 5 out of 5 stars, but 4 out of 5 ain't too shabby for a fairly small southern diner. Good food, and good portions. I opted for the sausage and gravy biscuits. I added two over easy's on top, got sunny side up, not a big deal, just flipped them over. I did mention to the waitress I never get enough gravy anywhere I order it, and would be happy to pay for a side; she said wait and see, and by golly, she was right! First time ever actually got enough gravy to finish the whole meal. It was not the best I've ever had, but it was good, and that's saying a lot considering it doesn't seem many restaurants at all make excellent sausage gravy. Hubs ordered the famous corned beef Benedict with poached eggs. He enjoyed it very much, but said, while it was very good corned beef it wasn't the best he'd ever had. I came for the Lox (they no longer offer it), ordered the crab Benedict, and received the hash. Clearly from a can... for over $25. So grubby and dirty the Waffle House has better standards than this place. The cook held a personal conversation on his phone in front of me so no wonder he got the order wrong. The waitress was loud and obnoxious. Clearly family owned as one of the kids kept yelling, "mom, mom, mom!"
