I usually like mild for my shrimp at Boiling/Kickin Crab but here it's always way spicier than a mild. I don't mind too much but I just need more water! This is going to be another review comparing BC + Claws. I came here last week on a Sunday at 9PM. I read on yelp they take reservations. Correction: Not anymore. Yes, there is plenty of parking. & Yes, there are more options on the menu.. BUTT I'd give this place 0 stars if I could! Let's talk service: Horrendous! 1. there was about 45min-1hr wait- fine. 2. you have to walk yourself ALL the way in the busy restaurant to make your presence known to host, who was like so annoyed that I bother her or something. 3. we were served be 3-4ppl during the dining experience and 2/4 got our orders wrong. 4. they brought entrees our before apps, and when they finally got the apps out, we were almost done with our entrees, WTF?! 5. at the end, they charged us for 2 things we didn't order, which took them another 20mins to correct: terrible communication between the staffs. Now, for the Food itself: 1. Jambalaya: the seasoning was okay, but the rice was so dry, and the dish itself was lukewarm, like its been sitting out for a while, they do not cook to order, i'm sure there a large pot of Jambalaya back there, ughh. 2. When we arrive at 6:20pm, we're told that they already called our name and we had to be put back on the list, AS THE LAST PERSON ON THE LIST. The girl with the fake eye lashes was really rude to us when we told her that we were misquoted on the wait time. She did not care at all. Now we were hungry and pissed off. So we waited...and waited...and waited...as each person ahead of us on the list got seated even though they had come after us. We werent seated to eat until 7:30pm and we didnt get our food until 8pm. Was it worth the 2 hour wait? HELL NO. Thankfully the rest of the experience after having been seated was much better, except when our food was ready. The waitress served food to the people that were seated after us first before serving us our food. But when we had our food, it was delicious. Lots of spice and garlic all over the shrimp and king crab legs. The food eating was messy but I was up for the challenge. They have sinks in the back of the restaurant for you to wash your hands off which I thought was nice. Claws has grown in popularity since my last visit! With a party of six, we waited at least 45 minutes to get seated. It was a bit of a wait, but anything beats BCs 2 hour + wait, right? We came hungry, so the boyfriend and I ordered the 3lbs deal. It comes with small cajun fries (you can upgrade to sweet potato fries or larger size), choice from list 'A' appetizer (we got deep fried okra) and 3lbs of your choice of seafood. Sounds like a lot, but I normally consume about 2 lbs :) by myself. OMG...the deep fried okra! This place has me sold...I really would just come here for the okra. The amount is generous and best shared among hungry friends. Usually, okra has a lot of sap that could turn people off, but deep frying it adds a more palatable texture. Anyway, I've spent way too much time talking about okra, let's get to the seafood! I specifically directed our waiter about what goes in each bag, since the boy is allergic to shellfish. Well, it didn't come out the way we wanted. Bag 1: 1lbs shrimp with corn and sausage and Bag 2: 1 lbs crawfish, 1 lbs clams. -____- He ended up getting an allergic reaction because the sausage and corn were mixed with shrimp and shrimp is bad news for him. You can tell it was frozen since the texture was rubbery, the color was not as vibrant and the meat did not keep its shape. It became way too much work. Everyone knows Boiling Crab is awesome. I've tried similar restaurants that were..good or ok...but all seem to live under the shadow of BC. Then I found Claws. I like some of their dining options, it makes it easier to order. Like 3 lbs of shrimp comes with 2 sides - a dinner for 2 basically...They offer a lot of options for sides, more than BC. They keep their place super clean and tidy. It's kid friendly inside - pirates and wenches...and a "poop deck". There's plenty of seating and it never gets too crowded like BC, for now. After my coworker mentioned she liked this place better than the Boiling Crab, I decided to give it a try. I loved it. All the seafood was fresh. Seasoning was on point. I got the medium cannon ball mix king crab legs and they was just right for my taste. The wait wasn't long and there was plenty of tables inside. The only problem...I had an allergic reaction to something I ate and have no clue what it could have been. I eat seafood and shellfish regularly so this was a freak incident. For the cajun beginner, it's the nice place to be during their grand opening promotion which is 20% off on the bill and free soda. I tried fried shrimp, calamari, mussel and fries. Except mussels, tastes all good. Fried mussels require heavy chin exercises than you expect. I'm the lazy person so I gave up the exercise. I had Cajun seadfood pasta which is medium spicy, I think 'spicy' would taste better. I really like their Jambalaya. it's perfectly cooked and the flavor is not to strong. Blackend Tilapia is good. You can choose from steamed veggie or side salad for the entree. I don't like buffalo wings. it's overfried and dry. and what else... the blue crab and shrimp in the bag. Tastes good. but the crab shells are way hard for my teeth.. The servers are all friendly cuz they just opened. Took over the old Chinese buffet that use to be there. Much bigger location and plenty of seats inside. No long wait here compared to Boiling Crab! What we got: Garlic Fries ($5): comes with a dipping sauce that I wasn't sure what it was...but the garlic fries were so good! I couldn't stop eating it...it had plenty of garlic pieces in it. Super flavorful, not too spicy, and plenty of seafood. I don't mind getting my fingers dirty peeling those shrimp shells off! I got it medium with the cannonball seasoning. I didn't like the seasoning as much as Boiling Crabs. There was plenty of garlic in it which I liked. I like to just peel one shrimp and leave it in the sauce to soak it up while I peel the next shrimp. I thought it was a bit more on the Cajun side and lacked the garlic and buttery flavor I would get at other Cajun places. I got the 3 pounds combo with the 2 appetizer package deal with live crawfish, peeled shrimp, and shrimp with Cajun fries and Cajun chicken rolls.
