I am really glad this place opened up. I have really struggled to find a local Somerville hair dresser that I trust, is good at what they do, and is willing to be honest about recommendations rather than try to up-sell me. I had a not so great full foil done at another local salon that I needed filled in and corrected. Jonathan was great. He was surprisingly really quick with getting the foils in yet they came out nice and even, very natural looking. He took his time washing my hair and massaging my head, which is one of my favorite parts of the haircut. I never felt rushed. Before the appointment ended he explained to me what to do to treat my hair moving forward. He was happy to answer all my questions and even gave me a product sample to try out to make sure I liked it before I bought it. read more

Toni previously styled and colored my hair when she was at Liquid Hair Studios and I'm glad she opened up her own salon! It's a small salon, but spacious and fresh. They have blow pops which sealed the deal for me My stylist was Jonathan who was great. He was friendly and listened to what I wanted but also kept it real with me. He told me I wasn't gonna get as light as I wanted to in the first shot, which I knew, but it was good to hear it coming from a stylist who wanted to protect my hair, given bleach isn't so friendly, especially to curls. Some stylists will do what you want but fail to warn you of what might happen as a result. He ran out and put quarters in my meter while the bleach was processing, which was very sweet of him! I wanted to do a dramatic ombré look, but he told me ombré is pretty much over and balayage is where it's at. So I trusted him and I'm glad I did! I am so happy with the results and I'm looking forward to go back and get a trim and maybe even go a little lighter. For me, going to salon isn't just about the act of getting my hair done - it's about the entire experience; if I'm being heard, getting what I asked for and being treated well. Love this place....nothing fancy but great highlights. I ALWAYS go to Newbury street and tried this for highlights and a cut and it was great. Had an awesome experience here about a month ago when I got my hair balayaged and cut. Jonathan was really easy to talk to, and professional. Best of all, the man can do hair! I got the Gilt City coupon for a wash, cut, and blow dry and was thoroughly impressed: 1. The staff is awesome! Friendly and super helpful. 2. The haircut was amazing! Jonathan understood exactly what I wanted and executed it flawlessly (even told me to come back if I wanted to shorten up the back a bit more after living with the cut for a few days first). 3. The products they use smell amazing. I am the type that usually uses groupons and gilt city to get my hair down for cheap, but am planning on coming back here regularly for my hair needs because their work is stellar (still need to try out coloring, but I'd trust Jonathan with my hair) and prices are reasonable. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Clementine. Every single person I interacted with was funny, kind, and chill -- and Julie is a *wizard* with color. I went from mid-back mouse-brown curls to a curly mohawk in shades of green and blue, and I have never been so happy! I am picky picky picky when it comes to my hair and have looked all over Boston for a good salon. My hair is thick and kinda wavy, and too many stylists have fucked my my color so I've just let it grow for years. Several months ago, I wandered into Clementine Hair Studio and received a great cut by Fran, who was warm and funny. Today I got a very soft, subtle balayage and cut from Julie and IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I've never written a yelp review before, but was inspired by my interaction with this salon. I had scheduled an appointment several weeks in advance with a stylist that I followed from my previous salon. I called today (4 days before my appointment) to see if there were any other available times for the same day. I was informed on that call that my stylist was no longer at the salon and that "I should have received a phone call." I told the person on the phone that I in fact did not receive a phone call and had not been informed of this in any way. I received no apology that I was never informed. I was told another stylist could fill in and replied that I would call back after I decided. I was aggressively told to call back as soon as possible, which I was a little shocked by since this was the first I was hearing that my stylist had changed. I called back within 15 minutes to cancel since the whole situation seemed a little fishy to me and I was not treated kindly or considerately over the phone. When I said I was going to cancel, the person on the phone replied saying "ok thanks bye" and hung up abruptly. I had been planning on expressing my frustration over the phone but was not given the time or opportunity. So, here I am. I was excited to try a new salon but was incredibly disappointed and turned off by my interactions with staff over the phone. read more

Honestly this is by far the best salon I have ever been to. Toni has been doing my hair for years and I will never go to anyone else (besides any of the other stylists in her salon). My hair always comes out even better than what I expect it to be like coming out. The atmosphere is fun and care free everyone is super nice and welcoming. I'd been looking for a new salon closer to home for quite some time. A friend recommended Clementine. So, on a whim, I made an appointment for cut and color with Francesca. I didn't even do a trial, i.e. let's see whether she messes up my very long hair appointment, but jumped right in with having her chop my very long hair into short hair (pixie). Best decision I ever made. I got the best hair cut I've had in a long time. Seriously. My hair felt great, looked great, and continued to look great even as it grew. It's exactly what I asked for -- a cut that works with my hair, easy to care for and style. IT looks good even if I don't style it. Francesca listened. She was patient, outgoing, and easy to work with! And, for the first time in a long time, the color was exactly what I wanted. She got rid of the grays and managed to keep it dark brown but didn't make it black. You'd be surprised how hard that can be. I went back 4 weeks later for trim and left happy again! Choosing Clementine Hair Studio was one of the best decisions we made in planning our wedding! We (two brides) got our hair done, along with three other family and wedding party members. Patrick was very patient and great at figuring out what I wanted even though I wasn't sure how to describe it. He also did an awesome job with my partner's undercut. For the three other women we brought, Toni and Jonathan figured out a style that fit each person's hair and aesthetic. Everyone looked amazing! I have wanted to get a Brazilian Keratin Treatment for as long as I can remember, but I have always been very hesitant about actually getting one. I wasn't sure if I should spend so much money on one hair treatment and I was also extremely nervous that the treatment would "fry" my hair. However, I finally took the leap and got the treatment. I have never been so happy after leaving a salon as I was that day. Patrick was absolutely amazing and did such a wonderful job with my hair. I have naturally curly, frizzy hair, but after Patrick gave me the "Brazilian Keratin" treatment my hair is soft and smooth. Eight months later, Toni took my shaggy, uneven, ungainly, grown-out dark brown pixie and turned it into the most amazing blonde bob. She was lovely, friendly, and VERY meticulous, taking painstaking care with my bayalage. Yet I was still out of the chair in less than 2.5 hours. My hair looks and feels amazing!
