This food is absolutely amazing. Highly worth making a trip here. We tried chicken, shrimp, and fish as well as about half of the sides. Everything was spectacular. The breading on the shrimp and fish was sensational. The chicken breading was good too. I usually find breading can be bland, but this was really special. I was curious to try the sauces, which were also tasty, but you can easily be happy with or without sauce. As for sides, the mac and cheese had some interesting flavors. The collard greens are made with turkey and were also unique and delicious. I usually like cornbread anywhere I go, but wow this one was one of the best I have ever had. Great fried chicken! They fry it so well that the skin is crispy. Came with fries and a biscuit. Again the French fries were very well fried. The biscuit was okay - came with honey. They offer a sauce with order and I have not had that before. Seemed like lots of options but we went with habanero mango sauce. The flavors were off the charts, so good, and fried to perfect crunch and crisp. I think the chicken was my favorite protein, so juicy and great breading. The fries were also great, but the mac and cheese stole the show. Comparing the cornbread and the biscuit, both were GREAT but the biscuit won me over by just a touch, so buttery and yummy. Service was nice, though most things are self service (you grab your own paper plates, utensils, and cups of water). This place rocks! Finally dropped in and so glad we did. The fried chicken and catfish were excellent - crispy, juicy, and the perfect amount of salt. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed our food hot and fresh - I imagine that if you're doing Door dash or takeout, the food is going to steam in the box, and it will not be the same at home. The fries were delicious and plentiful. The final question was biscuit or cornbread. The answer is both! The biscuits were not dry - they were dense and had the butter and honey flavors baked in. The cornbread muffins were light - almost cake-like - with whole kernels of corn baked in. If I had to pick one, I would go with the cornbread. They make their own desserts from scratch on site along with everything else, but we didn't have enough room to try them. But we will on our next visit. We were so excited to try this place we ordered a little of everything. We ordered catfish, fried chicken, chicken strips, fried shrimp, fries, collards, biscuits, mac and cheese, red velvet cake and pecan pie. We were the only customers in the restaurant and it took 30 min to get our food. We were thinking this is going to be fantastic! NOPE! The thin breading fell off the catfish when you tried to eat it. The chicken thigh & leg were very small but tasted good (not great), the chicken strips were bland and you had to pay extra for sauce. They shorted us 1 shrimp (we ordered 6 and got 5). The fries were batter dipped (yuk). We even asked the lady if they were batter dipped and she said no, you are going to love them. The collards were so hot we couldn't eat them (after choking they went in the trash), the biscuits were meh, the mac and cheese was so over cooked it was like mush with coagulated cheese. The red velvet cake was super dry and the icing on top was so thin you could see the cake color coming through. The pecan pie was gummy and the crust was way over cooked. I can't believe we wasted so much money on this meal. Definitely not worth it. read more

I drive past this place all the time and always think to myself "I should really try them out sometime". I'm really picky about my fried chicken, so I was hesitant at first. My goodness!!! I should have eaten here long long ago! I ordered a 3 piece chicken tenders, which comes with fries and a biscuit. I also ordered a small side of Mac n cheese. The chicken is seasoned so deliciously, and it's moist, with a nice crispy batter. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure they fry their fries twice, because even tho I ordered my meal to go, the fries were still crispy after about a 15 min drive home. The Mac and cheese was super cheesy, and you know they use the good cheese! And lastly the biscuit has the be the best one I've ever had! It's sweet, fluffy, and moist, but not undercooked moist, perfectly rich moist! I can't recommend this place enough! Y'all better check them out! My only regret, is that I didn't take more photos! We did the chicken tenders and two pc dark plates. Both were well executed, crispy and flavorful, with really impressive moistness on the dark meat. Service was good too; the server let us try the remoulade sauce for free (recommend it, imagine a cross between aioli and tartar sauce). The fries that came with were solid and generous in portion and I personally enjoyed the biscuit, as it was very fluffy. Came on a Wednesday night and it was empty up until 6pm when I went in. The restaurant was pretty small (around 4 tables) and seems family owned. Can get a little loud if a loud group of people come in but each table can't fit more than 4 or 5 comfortably so it was tame when I went. Menu is pretty short and they serve fried fish, chicken, and shrimp. I don't usually get Cajun fried chicken aside from Popeyes so this review is written from that perspective I decided to get the 2 dark piece box and it was reasonably priced. First off, I LOVED the biscuit. The best way I can describe it is a hybrid between a Popeyes biscuit and cornbread. It was nicely buttered and had this great texture. The chicken was also really juicy. It wasn't super crunchy and breaded like Popeyes tend to be. But the skin was thin but crispy with all the chicken juices captured inside. The mix of spices in the chicken skin was also very different and refreshing compared to Popeyes. The fries were also airy and pretty decent. Honestly all in all, with how expensive Popeyes is without any coupons or the app, I would definitely come and support this business more! Also their fish was well fried and juicy as well! Sooooooo good! The Peninsula and South Bay need some great fried chicken. When Clifford's opened, I wondered if it would be yet another pretentious and wayyyy overpriced restaurant. The good news? It's not! This is a very, VERY good fried chicken, biscuits and fish. The seasoning is very good. I would say that this is AUTHENTIC fried chicken -- and arguably the very best on this side of the bay. It reminded me of a favorite restaurant that I frequented when I was an undergrad student. However, the biscuits are just about PERFECT! The location is a bit off-the-beaten-path. However, the food, service and no-nonsense yet GREAT quality is worth the trip. To be clear: This surprise of a restaurant is located on the corner of Calderon Ave. and Church Street in Mountain View -- just two east of El Camino Real and just four or five blocks south of Castro Street. It's located in a modest strip mall. It's not a particularly large dining room. However, there are about five tables inside and a four more located outside. The prices are good and the food is quality. I used to drive across the bay (to Hayward) to buy "better" fried chicken. Now, I can get even better chicken in nearby Mountain View. The chicken and sides were delicious -- good seasoning for everything, crispy chicken, not overcooked collard greens, and not overly creamy or acidic coleslaw. The only complaint I have is that I was only given 1 breast piece as opposed to 2 as listed (the total number of chicken pieces was still 10). I try to eat healthy, but every once in a while I want some fried chicken. Tonight was one of those times, and I went looking on Yelp to see if there were any new places close to home. Turns out Clifford's has opened since the last time I went looking. I went with my husband and our two teenage boys. I had a chicken breast the collard greens and a biscuit. My husband had a fish and chicken combo, and the boys had chicken tenders with fries. We all agreed the chicken and biscuits were fantastic. I had a bite of my husband's fish and thought it that was pretty good, and he liked it too. My collard greens were phenomenal, but I couldn't get anyone else at the table to try them. Their loss. We ate there because I don't like my food getting cold on the ride home. But it came out very hot, and I think it would have stayed hot until we got home if we had we taken it to go. The guys working there were friendly and we had a nice conversation while we waited for our food.
