So I Googled and You Tubed...how do you fix a capacitor on a Trane A/C? After watching a couple...I went to Ace and bought a new capacitor...yanked the old one off and put the new one on...with a little bit of Jerry-rigging as it was skinnier than the old one and didn't fit the bracket...and voila! We had been told by another company that the evaporation coil above the furnace was so rusty that it was leaking refrigerant into it, and that it needed replacement of the capacitor and condenser fan motor. At a whopping cost of over $2,000, it was highly suspicious. They also were pushing an upgrade for an additional $700+. We needed a second opinion, and a technician from Blue Horse was available sooner than we expected. The technician stated that all of the evaporation coils that he looks at are rusted due to metal coming in contact with moisture as part of what an evaporation coil does. He then inspected the outdoor unit, hosed it off, and said our A/C was safe to turn on. The best part of the appointment: No charge!

One of the others (Tnt Mechanical) scheduled first, and arrived in a black pickup truck with no identifying information, no uniform or company logo shirt, no business card. The number of scammers in our neighborhood is on the rise so I said no thank you and asked him to leave. Then Bluestar called me to set up a time; when they arrived it was more as I expect from a trusted business: company van, company uniform, business card, etc. Ivan was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He found a coolant leak in my system within minutes, showed it bubbling through leak detector fluid, and wrote up an estimate to repair the leak plus recharge the coolant. With a discount for cash, it was a very reasonable price and I agreed. He went to work right away. About an hour later he'd finished and took me around to inspect what he'd done, explaining everything. This really helped me feel at ease with the quality of the work, and that nothing had been done that wasn't necessary. He even helped show me some things about my furnace that I had questions about, not related to the AC work. Ivan responded quickly, got us repaired quickly at a reasonable price, and left me with feelings of trust and satisfaction. Next time I have any problems with my furnace or AC, I'll know to call Bluestar first... a great experience.
