Came here for the first time and I wanted to try their fancy looking pancakes, but we were having dinner elsewhere so instead, ordered a large milk tea with no boba and with coconut creme topping. My wife ordered this specific drink cause she's all into her milk tea, but she didn't really like it. I drank the other half and I can't honestly tell you if there's a difference. My wife loves Hana Tea so sometimes I think she's automatically biased, but even Hana Tea somewhat tastes the same. I'm more of a mungbean type of guy when it comes to boba drinks. Prices are pretty cheap too. The staff was friendly and quick with my order. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. There are tons of drink choices to pick from and pancakes. Everyone who knows me, knows that I love boba and pancakes. But I've never had them together.. so I was super stoked to finally try Cloud Nine's soufflé boba pancakes. Unfortunately dining in wasn't open yet but we could do take out. I don't know if it made a difference doing take out but the soufflé pancakes just didn't do it for me. Granted we did take it to the beach and it was a little melted. But still, taste wise it was just okay. I've had soufflé pancakes in Japan.. and they definitely don't compare. I finally got to try Cloud Nine Cafe. I got earl grey black tea, the original souffle pancakes, and salty egg yolk taiwanese castella cake. The earl grey black tea with salty cheese cream was good. It was a nice refresher. The original butter with maple syrup souffle pancakes had half sugar powder & I think half brown sugar powder. These souffle pancakes were soft, and light. I bought a half portion of the salty egg yolk castella cake and I was told to microwave the egg yolk cake for 35 secs before eating. Microwaving the cake made the cake soft and salty egg yolk runny. It was pretty good. Overall, the service was great, and drink/food was good. Would I come back? Yes. Just a heads up, the cafe only has 2 tables. read more

They are located at the Market City shopping center in Kaimuki in town. There is parking but the shopping center can get very busy during peak lunch and dinner times. They cafe offers boba drinks, soufflé pancakes, dumplings and etc. I had their brown sugar boba with fresh milk. I didn't care for the taste of fresh milk in the boba drinks. I also tried their pork dumplings. They were amazing. So yummy. The boba soufflé pancakes are so unique. The texture is so light and airy. The flavor was a unique take on a "breakfast"/dessert item. It's a super small location now, only had 2 small tables inside which fit only 2 people per table. Anyways was wanting to try something different. Ending up trying the Castella Sandwich. If you did a wait huh what? Yes, Castella cake into a sandwich. Choice of Ham or Tuna. I opted for the Ham. It's something different but I think it works. When I went to Japan a couple of years ago, I had bookmarked soufflé pancakes to try. But I was traveling with my cousin and his foodie friends who had their minds on eating sushi, sushi and more sushi with some tempura. I'm not complaining because those ended up to be great, memorable meals. But sadly, I didn't have a chance to try these soufflé pancakes. I've been seeing some soufflé pancake pics pop on social media and realized Cloud Nine Café (CNC) offers them. So just recently, we had a nice birthday lunch celebration where dessert wasn't formally served. Someone had suggested we come to CNC for their soufflé pancakes and I was all in! Located in Market City Shopping Center that took over the spot previously occupied by Dragon Tea, CNC offers Taiwanese snacks of dumplings, noodles, tea eggs, milk teas and boba drinks. And then you have the main attraction: soufflé pancakes. On my first attempt, I wanted to try the pancakes at its original state without a heavy cream or sauce that was going to overpower the pancake. I did appreciate the staff advising me a 25 min waiting time, knowing that my food was going to be made fresh. I was with my Yeeps so I knew that time would be spent catching up. I was given a number and sat at a table. A handful of my friends ordered smoothie drinks where they seemed to have enjoyed it. No one mentioned dissatisfaction. While catching up with some friends, in no time my number was called and I darted to the front with great anticipation. On a ceramic plate sat 3 super fluffy pancakes dusted with some cocoa powder and powdered sugar, some thin slabs of butter and a small metal cup of maple syrup. I was all excited that my time to try these bad boys had finally arrived. After we took turns taking photos, I poured the maple syrup on top and we used our forks to cut them. It's so soft that knives are not necessary. The verdict - Sadly, it was just okay for me. It's just a super fluffy pancake. The flavor was okay. I let my friends sample the soufflé pancakes and the funny thing is that no one expressed the soufflé pancakes to be exceptional. It was just okay. My friends pretty much tried a piece and not many wanted seconds. Eventually the pancakes sat on the plate and after a while I noticed it lost the fluffiness and eventually became flat. Customer service was okay. The staff informed me of their loyalty card system which I accepted but after a semi-disappointed experience, I'm not keen on coming back here anytime soon. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing but next time I'll get one with some cream or sauce to elevate the flavor. By itself the pancakes were lacking flavor and richness. read more

"Pretty Darn Close" This past December we had a chance to try the famous soufflé pancakes of Japan. While in Kyoto we went to a delightful cafe that specialized in this special dessert. So naturally when we got back to Hawaii we discovered that there are several places that serve soufflé pancakes. The question is: do they taste the same? Cloud Nine Cafe is located in the Market City shopping Center in Kapahulu and is located more on the Ewa side of the shopping center. The space was previously occupied by a bubbly tea place. A clean cafe with pleasant employees, they specialize in light meals, bubble drinks and desserts, a specialty dessert being soufflé pancakes. It compares quite favorably with what we had in Japan. We chose the strawberry soufflé which are the pancakes covered in a very sweet strawberry sauce. It was quite delicious but be prepared for the sugar onslaught and overload. It's one of those sweet treats that would go well with straight black coffee or tea. The pancakes themselves were pretty close but not quite as airy as what we had in Kyoto, although it did pass the jiggle test. So if you want to taste something pretty similar to what you would find in Japan under "soufflé pancakes" here in Hawaii, Cloud Nine is not a bad place to try. I've been hearing their fully pancakes was really bomb so I had to come out if I had the chance. It wasn't busy which was good cuz I hear it can get pretty busy. We stumbled upon this gem on our way to brunch. The cakes are soft and fluffy. Feels like it melts in your mouth and becomes creamy - think sponge cake but next level. We got the salted egg yolk and they didn't skimp on the ingredients. The salty goodness with the sweet cake are heavenly. For my son we got the chocolate chip and he loved it. We wanted to bring it home where it can last in the fridge for 3 days and is best warmed up for 20 seconds in the microwave but it didn't last very long. The owner was delightful and I hope the rest of the community rallies around these businesses to help them recover after covid. Came here on a Saturday morning to get some fluffy soufflé pancakes! Some people may have remembered when they were located in the Market City Shopping Center, but they relocated and reopened on Kapiolani in the same shopping plaza as Gyukaku, Original Pancake House, and Cheese Tea. The space is not as nearly as big as their previous location. Only a small counter to sit 2 people. Luckily, we were the only people in the shop so we were able to enjoy our pancakes sitting down. We got the strawberries and cream soufflé pancake and an Assam milk tea. The owner (?) was also sweet enough to let me try their cheese castella cake. Their soufflé pancakes are the best on the island. Fluffy, airy but also filling at the same time. They decorate them super cutely as well. I also enjoyed their milk tea as it was not as sweet so it washed down the super sweet soufflé pancakes perfectly. The cheese castella cake was interesting! I was excited to see that a new cafe that served soufflé pancakes opened up in the area! I was particularly interested in their brown sugar boba soufflé pancake, which is what I ordered during my visit, along with their strawberry fruit tea. We were told that the pancakes would be a 25-30 minute wait which I was okay with, but it ended up taking about 45 minutes. Also, the cashier came off as rude, she didn't smile at all and seemed pretty miserable while taking our order. I wish I could say that the pancakes were worth the wait, but I was quite disappointed, as I had such high expectations for these fluffy pancakes that everybody who goes to Japan raves about. I'm not completely sure if these were "authentic" fluffy pancakes, since I didn't have any other experience to compare these to. In my opinion, I thought the pancakes tasted like the type of plain cake you can get at a Chinese bakery. On the other hand, the fruit tea was delicious. Well with the exception of cream pot and that other breakfast place near diamond head, these are pretty hard to find here in Hawaii that's less than $15! They took over the dragon tea spot in market city so the set up is similar. Ample parking most times as it is shared with other businesses too. Please do note that you should arrive before 8p because there's a soufflé natzee that will automatically tell you it's sold out. I actually hung around 15 mins more waiting for a friend and the owner came out saying it was last call - we were so confused cause I was just told it was sold out and we were debating if we should try something else or leave right before that. Keep in mind that it takes about 25 mins to make as they also have to steam it too. The owner said it's not really easy to make. She was super friendly and also mentioned she worked at Tim ho wan. The taste was light and fluffy - not too sweet. If you ever had uncle tetsu then it tastes similar to that but with boba sauce all over! While the owner was super nice, the cashier wasn't. I didn't even know there was a stamp card until days later. We also watched the owner tell him to work too. It was funny lol. The soufflé pancakes might be the only draw to their menu as I didn't really see their drinks very appealing. I may try their dishes another time. LOVE THE FOOD. Maybe it was just me but the parking was confusing. There is a parking garage entrance right next to it that gives a free 20 minutes with validation. I parked easily and went down the stairwell... at the bottom of the stairwell I exited into a fully gated/enclosed yard. I turned around to go back into the staircase but the door was locked. This is literally my biggest fear, lol. I legitimately jumped over the fence and was at the back of where the Cloud Nine Cafe entrance was at. It was pretty sketchy and scary. If you park in the garage, USE THE ELEVATOR. Anyways, you can't go wrong with ANY of the souffle pancakes. They are all delicious; even the savory one that comes with spam and eggs. I came here after dinner one night with friends and I was really excited to try their pancakes. One thing I noticed right away is the variety - they have a lot of different options! We ordered four of the pancakes for four of us. At first, we thought this would be too much but the pancakes are so light we were actually able to finish it all. My favorites were the Brown Sugar Cream with Boba soufflé and the Coconut Cream with Honey and Almond Cereal Soufflé. You could really taste the flavors (the brown sugar boba actually tasted like it!) without it being too sweet or overpowering. I haven't had real japanese pancakes, but from what I gathered Cloud Nine's pancakes do seem to compare. They were light and airy enough where they jiggled when stacked, although I think they could have been softer. But even if the pancakes weren't the real thing, I think the flavors made up for that and I would definitely try it again. The staff was also very friendly! Such a cute little cafe in kaimuki. The decor is pretty adorable and I've seen them decorated for both Halloween and Christmas. First went here because I love soufflé pancakes and there weren't really many places to find them. The soufflé pancakes here are nice and fluffy. I've tried the boba and chocolate flavors, and both were delicious. They are made to order so be patient. The rest of the food is pretty decent. I've had a sandwich and cold noodles from here and both were tasty. They also have a variety of drink flavors. My favorite is just regular milk tea with boba. Finally I got this soufflé pancake. Yay!! I always see on Social media about their soufflé pancake with boba and looks great. It took 10min driving from ala Moana shopping center. I went there around 4pm. There are enough parking lots and there is nobody in the store except me:-) I got matcha cream with azuki beans and brown sugar cream with boba. It's $11.49 each. After I ordered, she said it takes 20min to get done. Inside was very clean, a few table and chairs, and very quiet and relaxed space. They packed very nicely! Taste was ok. Japanese soufflé pancakes has always been my top 5 foods I wanted to try. So today was the day. Drove all the way from the west side just to try their version. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed. For $14 it wasn't worth it. We only ordered their Matcha Red bean pancake soufflé. Pancakes were cold and bland. Sad. My co worker was right. Not worth the money and it ain't that good. I spotted this new place opened up in the old Dragon Tea space, so I stopped by for some pancakes for brunch. I fell in love with soufflé pancakes after living in Japan for a while, so I'm constantly on a search for the best ones I can get here in Hawaii. I tried the strawberry soufflé pancakes, garlic basil thick toast, and a jasmine tea with boba and salted cream cheese. The drinks as well as the thick toast came out promptly, which was good since the pancakes took about 20 minutes. I liked the flavor of the garlic basil spread on the toast, which is not something you see that often. The pancakes had a subtle sweetness, but they weren't the fluffiest I've had. They kinda flattened out under their own weight (they come in a stack of 3). The tea was just alright, but it had WAY too much ice. The owner is very friendly and I can tell that she puts a lot of effort into the restaurant. I would like to come back to try more pancake and toast flavors! read more

The name is fitting for their signature Soufflé Pancakes. I came here while my car was gettIng an oil change. The owner was there and she was so friendly and explained the Soufflés take about 20-30 min. That was perfect for me since I had about 1.5 hours according to Goodyear. They don't sell any bottled water I'm not about to drink tap water. So unsweetened Oolong tea it is. I figured the sweetness from the pancakes would be enough sugar. I never felt like I was having breakfast. It felt like I was having dessert and I order the simplest pancake. It didn't have the fancy creams and the fancy toppings. I opted for simple because I wanted to know what the pancake by itself tasted like. Afraid the flavors of the toppings and the different creams would take away from the pancake itself. That's why I ordered a side of coconut cream to try. Plus I don't like my food drowning in any sauce. Even with regUlar pancaakes I sip into the maple syrup, never pouring syrup over the whole pancake. Once I bit into my Soufflé cloud of goodness I knew I made the right choice, the Original Soufflé Pancake. Simple and flavorful with the syrup. I noticed some ordering the steamed dumplings. While I was there three orders of steamed dumplings were served. I will have to comeback and give that a try. read more

While everyone is trying their best with this free time on their hands, I thought I'd go back to my visit here. My friend and I enjoyed some golf at the Sony Open then made our way to Cloud Nine because I wanted to know what all the hype was about on IG. So I got an array of items. I ordered the pork dumplings, thick garlic basil toast, coconut cream honey cereal pancake (to share lol) and a hot milk tea. My friend got the braised pork with noodles which she liked. The garlic toast was ok, I could have made that. Should have known, my fault haha. But the true standouts were the dumplings and pancake! The dumplings were so fresh- we were told beforehand that there was a little wait cause they make them to order. They were steaming hot, fresh and delectable, worth the wait! Now from the savory to the sweet. The pancake was absolutely jiggly and wonderful. Not super sweet, perfectly soft, light and I love the flavor I chose! The service was excellent too. They were genuine and personable and wanted to make sure we were ok with the wait~ the soufflé takes some time as well. Funny coincidence too, my friend ran into her Taiwanese friend who told us this was just like authentic street food in Taiwan! No wonder it was so yummy. My husband saw a video of this place online and was immediately pulling me along to go. Location: This is the same building as the Gyu-Kaku on Kapiolani. The building does have a parking lot, but you have to pay attention as it's an easy miss if you're driving too fast (go up the ramp, park, and take the elevator down). The cafe inside is really small. It can really only sit two people comfortably. We opted to take our food to-go (which meant eat it in the car because my husband can't wait LOL). We ended up getting their souffle strawberry pancake and an iced caramel machiatto. The coffee was sooo good. I prefer my coffee dark, bitter, and smooth - which is was! The pancakes were so soft and light!! At first I was hesitate as to me I thought pancakes would be too heavy, but it's actually super light and delicious. I would definitely recommend buying as a dessert, breakfast, or even a snack! read more

Located in Market City right next to the T-Mobile store! Plenty parking and it's also free. So sad to hear they're gonna close at the end of the month on the 29th! Try to make it before the close but I think they have another location that's still going to be open. Inside is very clean and vibrant. They only have three table open though because of Covid. We order take out and it took about 15-20 mins. Got their Chocolate Cream Soufflé w/ Oreo Chips and the original brown sugar boba soufflé. I love that they're so light and fluffy. Not too sweet and super good. Great place to take the kids to try. It comes with 3 soufflé pancakes and cost around $15.. Would definitely recommend to try before they close! read more
