Cloud Nine has become my go-to when I want to pick up a strawberry smoothie bubble drink for my sons. I like that they use fresh fruit, and they allow me to split a large into two smaller cups (they do charge 50 cents extra though, to split the cups). If I'm in the mood for a bubble drink I'll order a milk tea 50% sweet for myself - it's pretty standard milk tea, but I like their boba - always chewy and never over or undercooked. The staff is friendly and every now and then they'll run promos (follow them on Instagram to get the scoops). I was curious to learn more about Cloud Nine when it opened at Market City. The menu is similar to a lot of cafes in Taiwan serving what really amounts to three different menus: a menu of boba drinks, breakfast souffle pancakes, and a small selection of entrees. I like pancakes and boba as much as anyone else but I stopped by tonight for the "food food." The minced pork rice was so good! Warm, tasty, not all greasy, and flavored just like you might get at a Taipei night market. Temperature is taken if you choose to dine in, the tables are nicely spread out, and they provide extra small plates as needed when multiple dishes are ordered. As for the food quality itself... - pumpkin spice souffle pancakes: tastes more like cinnamon than pumpkin spice/pumpkin flavor; otherwise, the pancakes were super fluffy and moist. I licked the box. :-) Cute place. Decided to get take out Cloud Nines Soufflés since it was quite busy before COVID to get in. Placed our order 30 minutes in advance. No line when I arrived at 1:05pm on a Sunday, though by the time I left there were 3 other groups in line. They had a nice "buy a large drink and get $2 off your soufflé pancake" special, so I went for it and got a milk tea and an avocado drink. Both drinks were good. My mom especially liked the avocado drink and the level of icey-crush-blitz. We can't do that at home! Really liked the sauces on both pancakes. The consistency was perfect and presentation nice; they did a good job figuring out the placement in the box. We still got the ooh-factor response when we opened them up at home. The salted cream cheese was quite pleasant, a take on the salted caramel idea. I would have liked the cream cheese flavor to be a little stronger. I'm not sure how much more the condensed milk drizzle added to the flavor. We thought the whole nuts were nice, though we thought they should have also had chopped macadamia so that every bite had some. The mango cream was fantastic. I highly recommend it. The kiwi and strawberry were nice complements. I can totally see this being a summer berry item too. I am a complete mango lover and am sometimes disappointed in mango desserts. I was not disappointed here. Yes. I admit it. I licked the box to make sure I got every little bit of mango cream. I would pay extra for a small side container of their mango cream sauce. The soufflé pancakes were, unfortunately, undercooked. When we cut into them, we could still see that the batter could have used 60-90 more seconds of cook time. I didn't know what to expect when I ordered the braised pork but it was savory and delicious with the pork sauce coating the rice. I can't explain the flavor of the pork dish but it is something every should definitely try. The tea egg was tasty and not too bland or too salty. We always get the tea egg when we go there. Finally got to checkout Cloud Nine Cafe yesterday afternoon. With all the hype and pictures seen on IG, my friends and I had high hopes for this place. Sadly, we weren't impressed. The service wasn't great. The two ladies behind the counter seemed unfriendly and impatient. It was our first time there and the menus displayed in front of and above the register are shown in small print. Their drink cups promise to "serve bubble drinks, souffle cake desserts and happiness". Happiness was no where to be found until another worker named Emily arrived for her shift. While we were finishing up, she checked on us and asked us how we were liking everything. Emily was a lot friendlier than the other two that "helped" us. Emily is what bumped my rating from 2 stars to 3. We ordered oolong milk tea, coffee milk tea, mango yogurt smoothie with boba, original soufflé with butter and maple syrup and the dumplings. The milk teas were okay; my friends said it was nothing special. The mango yogurt smoothie was refreshing and the boba was tasty. The original souffle took about 15 minutes to make. Sadly, it wasn't worth the wait. It was room temperature so the slices of butter on top didn't melt. The souffle cake was slightly fluffy and seemed a tad undercooked in the center. Service was ok and the restaurant was clean. The drink I ordered wasn't that great. It looked pretty but didn't go well as a whole. The brown sugar boba was freshly made and had a sweetness but because it was just prepared, it was warm. Then there was the milk layer which wasn't blended in and added a sweetness until you reached the bottom half. 70% of the drink was the bitterness of the matcha which at first was ok with the milk layer but when that began to separate, it became a bitter mess. In total, it looked better than how it tasted My recommendation is to drizzle some syrup on the walls or allow customers to adjust the sweetness. This place is doing a pretty good job adjusting to COVID. There's plenty of room inside to social distance, but they noticeably did not clean the iPad screen that I touched. Besides that, I felt very safe and settled for using the hand sanitizer provided after touching the payment screen. Now onto the fun part; the goodies :) I got the coconut black milk tea with boba. I can't believe I waited this long to try cloud nine cafe but I finally did it!! They have different daily specials which I think is a great way to try new drinks at a better price. I got the black milk tea with boba and matcha milk tea with brown sugar boba. I got both drinks with 50% sweetness but could have gone to 25% or 0% because of the sweetness in the boba. I was definitely surprised with the texture of the boba when I first drank it. The sizes of the boba differ from mini to large. It takes some getting used to if your used to a less chewy boba like me. For the tea I thought it was more of a dark tea which I really liked. I definitely will be back to try new tea flavors and the pancakes! I was in a bit of a rush and was told the pancakes take at least 10 minutes to make if they have no other orders to make. We came on a Saturday morning at opening and it was pretty empty. Found parking pretty easily at market city shopping center and it's located near cafe kaila. My favorite dish was the Brown sugar Boba soufflé pancakes! I love to drink milk tea with boba and it was a combination of best of both worlds. It's not too sweet which I really liked, and it's super light. We also ordered the mango soufflé pancakes and the original. Original is pretty good. It's basic but not. The butter and the maple surup goes perfectly with the fluffy pancakes. The mango was the sweetest out of the 3 but still not that sweet. If you love fruity you would love this one. Other than their soufflé pancakes they also have food. The chicken dumpling was pretty good. It wasn't oily or greasy it felt pretty clean and flavorful. I liked the sauce too. The TEA eggs were SO good. It mostly tasted like shoyu egg. But so good! Get it for Extra protein with your pancake =carbs! The most disappointing dish was the cold noodles. The noodles didn't have any bounce to it, it was sticking to each other and mushy. The peanut sauce was clumped and didn't even spread well with the noodles. Amazing soufflé pancakes as well as a few tasty savory options to go along with the sweet deliciousness of the light as air pancakes! We got the original, matcha, and brown sugar boba along with a pork rice dish. All were delish! Space is small / limited to a couple of counter seats, so no large parties. Worth a visit! read more
