The sauces really brought everything together, especially the ginger sauce and chili. The surprise favorite, though, was the fried chicken. It was incredibly crispy on the outside while staying juicy inside. Dipping it into the sweet sauce with a little of the chili sauce was the perfect combination, sweet, tangy. We got the Hainan chicken rice with dark and white meat ($13.75). The menu describes it as Singaporean-style poached chicken. Some of the string beans were not that fresh, but the flavor was still really good. Total came to around $50 for this combo, a good size to feed a family of 4-5! They do charge extra for their sauces if you want more, but you can always exchange one of their sauces for more orange or green sauce. Hubby and I ordered two Singaporean-style poached chicken with chicken rice, one with dark meat, and one with dark and white meat. It is served with pickled veggies, ginger scallion sauce (1), red ginger chili sauce (1), and a hot soup. I liked my dark-meat chicken because they were very tender, juicy, and smooth. They were perfect with the ginger scallion sauce rather than the spicy red ginger chili sauce. I also added some sweet soy sauce to the chicken because they tasted a bit bland. The soup was warm & hearty. However, we did not like the rice, the fragrant rice had no flavor and was not a bit oily and it was dry. Honestly, we liked the original Hainan Chicken Rice Cluck2Go in Pasadena more than this location. Overall it was 3.5 stars (I round it up to 4 stars). My mom and grandma go here all the time and I was finally able to join them this past week for lunch. Apparently they use to be down the street a little but moved here, not sure when. There's only a few tables inside and I will say, don't expect it to be super clean. We saw flies all over the place and dead ones too on the floors. I love cluck2go, it has always been my Hainan chicken go-to place. I usually would buy food for to-go but this time I decided to dine in for lunch. After ordering and paying at their counter, the cashier handed my receipt and said "you need to pay tips for dine in". I was shocked at that moment because tips are supposed to be earned, not entitled. This place is also a fast casual restaurant. But I just sat down anyway. After a while, when they served us food, it wasn't served on proper plates. They put our food in to-go containers and boxes so they don't have to wash additional dishes. I've been eating at this restaurant for over 10 years, but after my most recent experience, I don't think I'll be coming back. I arrived around 7:00 PM and was told the restaurant closed at 7:30 PM. Since I was only ordering one Hainanese chicken dish, I figured it would be a quick meal and wouldn't prevent the staff from closing on time. The problem started when I mentioned that I wanted to dine in. The cashier's attitude changed immediately and she seemed annoyed that I wasn't taking the food to go. After ordering, I waited in the pickup area for about 20 minutes. During that time, I saw a dish that looked like my order and asked if it was mine. I was told it wasn't ready yet. After waiting even longer, I asked again and said that if they didn't want to serve me, they could just refund my order. Only then was I told that the food sitting there was actually my order all along. It honestly felt like I was being ignored or deliberately made to wait because I chose to dine in close to closing time. Whether that was the intention or not, the customer service was extremely disappointing. A simple explanation or honest communication would have gone a long way. The rice was also missing some of the chicken flavor that day, but the texture was perfectly chewy. It was hard to stop eating the rice after I was already full! - Spicy cucumber salad. The marinade was a little oily (always has been), but the earthy chili pepper and sichuan peppercorn tasted great. - Fried peanuts (16 oz). Fried peanuts tossed in sugar and dried chili. After trying both the regular and fried variants, I think the traditional Hainan chicken is best-- It's just more unique and goes better with the rice than fried chicken.
