On Grand Opening Day, my daughter and I tried to order items from at least three places. This was one of the three. Although we only got one item to compliment our orders from a couple other places, I would definitely recommend this place and will be back to try other items here in the near future. Of course this place is new, so it is very clean here and the surrounding stores. Ordering here was really easy and decently quick because it was one of the two places right next to each other that my daughter ordered at and we were pretty close to two of the first 10 people or so that entered the building after it finally opened. The person at the cashier was really nice. Ok... so we only ordered the honey garlic wings. But we are suckers for wings. They tasted so good, so of course we are hooked here just off of this. So far, the best Hainan Chicken I've had. I typically order the half chicken non-combo and the fried chicken. Everytime has been consistent. I have not experienced any dryness in there chicken, yet. The staff is always friendly, courteous and helpful. The new Cluck2Go location in the brand new Haven City Market, at West Covina, is more convenient for me as I like to pickup to-go orders on the way home from work. Been to their other locations so I was excited to see it inside the Haven City marketplace. The worker was polite. Got the regular Hainan chicken - dark meat only. The portion is pretty big and they pack the container with rice and chicken. Both had great flavor and comes with a few dipping sauces. I love Hainan chicken but have never had it fried before so out of all the places in the plaza, I decided to pick this to eat and I'm so glad I did! It was so tasty! It came with so much chicken, a big ole container of rice, a small thing of pickled vegetables, sweet sour sauce, and some chicken broth. Almost everything was a 10/10 to me. The rice was just okay, I thought it was a little harder than it should have been but I'm not a big rice eater anyway. The broth was amazing. For those of you complaining it's too bland, that's how it's supposed to be! It's not supposed to be like your mom's chicken stew, Hainan chicken doesn't usually have much seasonings besides the chicken and the ginger. So I've never had Singaporean chicken I saw the fried chicken so that's what I got. It came with a decent amount of chicken the skin was crispy but could have been crispier.Im not sure because the steam from the container makes it a little less crispy. It comes with 2 scoop full of jasmine rice with a side of chicken broth and what seems like steamed veggies which I didn't care for. The sweet chili sauce was good but the two sauces both green and red smelled like ginger which I'm not a fan of. Also could someone explain to me what I'm supposed to do with the broth? My first time here and the first time trying fried Hainan chicken. I actually prefer the fried style to the original, which has the pale flabby skin. Growing up, my mother would make Chinese style poached "white cut chicken " which is similar to Hainan chicken. Again, flavorful, moist but that skin... so, Cluck2Go 's fried chicken is crispy and has an underlying spice which tastes a bit like Five Spice powder. This is Cluck2Go's fourth and newest location. I've only been to their Pasadena branch once before a few years ago. I remember the food being pretty tasty and coupled with the fact that this is probably the most cost-effective option in the food hall, I decided to patronize the restaurant. Upon entering the inside of the Haven City Market, I could see there were tons of both indoor and outdoor seating, great for solo diners and large parties, but it was also super packed. There was a plethora of dining choices in a compact area, and the vibe was casual and lively. [ Parking ] Parking here sucks in my opinion. Because the food hall opened up a few weeks ago, there are many customers eager to try the new food options. The parking lot is huge since there are plenty of businesses located in the Hong Kong Plaza, but most spots were full. I came across a few empty spaces, but they were a tight fit; I'm also not the best at parking. After driving around for a few minutes trying to find a better spot, I finally parked. Well first off before I say anything about the food, this plaza is soooo different now! I got the fried hainan chicken because who doesn't like fried chicken also it's a different take on the original and I didn't even know they had a fried version of it and I said yes please! I also got their spicy cucumber and self healing tea! First of the rice that came with it! When you talk about putting broth in your rice but man having their broth in cooked into the rice gave it so much more flavor and it's not even grand or anything like that! Just the simplicity of it gave the rice the right amount of flavor and even changed the texture a bit! The spicy cucumber was good too! I'm used to eating like Korean spicy cucumber packed with spices which I like but having this style or at least their take on spicy cucumber was good! The spice was just right and not over bearing and the flavor was still packing from the seasoning they used and since it's not pickled like most of the spicy cucumbers I've had this was freshly cut and was slapped with their spices and seasoning! Loved that Haven City just opened up in WC!! So many choices! We saw a line here at Cluck2Go and had to try it out! What a delicious and decently priced meal!!! The Hainan super tender and the dark rice filled with umami flavor. Simplest chefs kiss!! you get sauces, broth and pickled cabbage! The ginger sauce (green) was spectacular!! The orange is more spicy, maybe like a habanero mix? And i could seriously eat a tub of the pickled cabbage! The broth was warm and simple, I rate it maybe a 6/10 was Hoping for more flavor but still nice to balance the meal with soup! Pretty decent value for Hainan chicken. Flavors are more subtle and simple, but it's also not as salty as other places, especially the broth. Only minor complaint is that the ginger scallion sauce smelled a bit off (the smell of perishing greens), but it tasted fine. I did not get sick. They should also update the menu and add a new menu photo on Yelp if they aren't going to include the sweet soy sauce by default. If I wanted the sauce, it's not clear that I need to ask for it. First time here. I heard they just opened a few weeks ago, so they might still be working out the kinks. I ordered the combo B. It states it's enough for 4 - 5 people. Based on the amount of chicken, I would say it would be good for about 4 adults. The chicken was packed in 2 containers - okay amount . The 4 rice portions were pretty full. The 4 soups were about 2/3 full which were bland. The peanuts were okay. I didn't eat them, but the family did. The pickled veggies were good but were packed very lightly in their portion cups, like less than half full. The cucumber salad was very disappointing because the container was packed less than half full and this is supposed to be for 4 to 5 people?! It wasn't even enough for 1 person. The combo B on the menu indicated there was sweet soy sauce included but I did not receive any. The green ginger scallion sauce was very oily, which was to be expected. The best part of the meal was the rice. It was seasoned well. A suggestion to management: maybe reduce the size of the portion cups and fill them up if you don't want to give your patrons any more cucumber salad or pickled veggies than you intend to. That would probably be a better presentation than receiving half-filled containers of whatever it is that is being served. Overall, there are better options in the area. This is our second visit to this location. I've dined at other locations, but was impressed on our first visit which is why I cane back. Seems to be hit or miss. Maybe it depends which cook is in the kitchen that day. We ordered 2 dark meat Hainan chicken combos which they claim is their most popular combo. The first time we had nice size pieces of chicken. The second time we had chicken scraps. There were a few nicely sliced pieces on top for appearance value. The chicken was moist and tender. However, the rice had no flavor. The chicken broth was also flavorless. IMO they added too much water and the flavor was diluted. Of course, then they have more broth they can sell. Here is my question. Each meal comes with 2 dipping sauces. One red and one green. I asked the server if I could have 2 green instead. She told me you get 1 green free, but I have to charge for the second one. The first time we were given 2 green sauces without any additional charge. We got 4 green sauces, but had to pay for one. Somehow the math doesn't add up.
