The customer service team is doing their best to be helpful but the "trust and safety specialist" claims there is nothing they can do. So THEY made an error about how many people would be required to make the move, did not complete my move, and now want me to pay for the entirety of an additional move, almost two weeks later. Extremely frustrating and not at all worth it. We're giving them one last shot to work it out before we cancel this next move all together; I am not giving them any more of my money when they're not even willing to come to a compromise. read more

This is my second negative review of Clutter. RUN. DO NOT USE. NO NO NO! I store items year round as I live in a small space. For about a decade, I had a 10X10 storage unit at the Lock Up. And it worked. But hauling things myself got old and the storage unit prices went up and up when the facility deteriorated. Along came Clutter. They offered cheaper monthly storage with one free pick up/drop off a month. Ultimately, I'd save my by going with their service if all went as planned. NOPE. My storage price fluctuated though the items brought in and out largely remained the same. I'm currently paying $200 a month for 10X10 storage. Thats a LOT in comparison to the bricks and mortar places in my neighborhood. But then, the difference was in the pick service. Yeah...pick up service. Be prepared to book two weeks in advance in order to get your belongings back or pick them up. And NO they do not allow you to come and pick anything up yourself. Now the kicker. After over two years, they claim Illinois law changed and they are now required to charge $65 per mover for all pick ups and deliveries. Thats a HUGE change to the agreement. They notified me in ONE email, that I clearly missed. So, its xmas time and I need my tree. My tree is in a rolling xmas tree bag. no carrying required. I advise that I only need one mover for my items and schedule both a pick up and drop off two weeks in advance. The movers arrive on time and were very nice. However, there were two of them. And I carried my own box up to my unit while one mover rolled the tree, which I told him he did not have to do. At the end, I was presented with a $130 bill - for something I believed was included in my monthly payment. I called customer service and was told my item was "bulky" and needed two movers. I'm like its a DUFFEL BAG ON WHEELS and I clearly specified upon scheduling that only ONE mover was needed (none really, but that is neither here nor there)...I called back again and the snippy customer service woman, who seemed annoyed that I had to call twice, finally waived ONE mover fee. I'm DONE with clutter. And everyone should avoid. I've reserved space at East Bank. I'm sure the move OUT of clutter is going to cost me $500. And I'm sure I'm not allowed to hire my own movers to remove my items. SCAM. At this point, this entire scheme is an entire fail. They 1) didn't execute what they stated they would when i moved in and 2) they clearly didn't research the law prior to screwing with people to get them to sign up. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! read more

Honestly we have had a horrible experience with clutter. When they were packing up our house they told us 2 hours to put everything in their truck, not only did it actually take 10 hours, they didn't even finish packing our stuff before the closing and we were forced to rent a truck and get an extra storage locker. Come move in day, they could only bring half of our stuff for what ever reason, our closing went late so we were about 30 minutes late. They left and did not come back for MORE then a week. This company is fantastic. For what you get, it's a very good deal for storage and moving. I was given 10 days to move (out of my apt and to another continent) for work, and I don't think I would have survived it without this team. They came exactly as planned, and were SO helpful packing up my things when I was a frantic mess. Every team member is so nice and very considerate and professional. It's a little annoying that you need 48 hrs notice to go and pick up things at their facility, but I understand that they need to be able to have the time to organize labor and getting things sorted. They barcode and photograph everything, which is a lifesaver! Can't imagine putting things into storage and not knowing what is where. Support team is also super responsive and easy to contact. I had one issue with billing, but they got back to me right away to correct the payments. Their pickup and drop-off is super on time, efficient, and they let you know exactly when they'll arrive. I'm going to keep this short. Clutter is a good idea and is a good service (hence two stars) until you're in a bind, which is hard to predict. I found myself in a bind a few days before moving away from Chicago to Boston. Unfortunately I needed my stuff delivered to me on 1-2 days notice. The end of the month, being particularly busy for Clutter, they required a week's notice for my stuff to be delivered. They were nice about it, but they would not and apparently could not compromise with me. I offered to pick up everything myself, pay them extra money.. eventually after coming to terms with losing my stuff to Clutter, I asked if they could deliver just one box of meaningful items to me. They claimed they could not fit it on their truck on the day I needed it. Hard to believe. Having your belongings held from you feels like an injustice. The whole situation feels wrong and after having moved to another city it's still a sore subject. Worst yet, I was charged $100 for another month of storage following this incident. At this point I've had my items dropped off at good will. I realize that Clutter needed more notice to drop off my items per usual. That's the point of this review. Clutter's lacks flexibility as a service and cannot accommodate difficult situations. Their unwillingness to compromise, problem solve with me, or reimburse me for the inconvenience and stress caused inspired me to write this and warn others: Think way ahead about how and when you'll use the service. Let me start by saying the actual movers are amazing. They are very thorough, communicative, on time and did a great job packaging and moving our stuff. The customer service center is terrible though. First, not all agents tell you the same thing!!! Read every fine print on the website and don't believe a thing you hear over the phone, ask for written proof or where you can find what they are telling you on their website. Most of the time they'll say it isn't written anywhere and they can't send it to you in writing. Shady. Example: they have a "policy" where once you have an account and items you are storing with them, you get one free hour per month for additional pick ups. Sounds great, especially since we are storing most of our holiday decorations and I wanted the ability to add and remove stuff, one hour per month seemed very fair. HOWEVER! that is not written anywhere on their website and you just have to take their word that they won't charge you. I was told that we could swap boxes out during this one free hour but in actuality, you can only have them pick up additional boxes. If they bring one of your boxes to swap out, that is considered a different trip and you have to pay $65. I specifically asked that question before I scheduled this and when I called back to say I should not be charged since I did not go over the one hour (we have our items boxed and ready to go on the curb for them to ensure we are not going to go over our one hour limit. They do offer to package and carry your things for you but if it takes over an hour, you will be charged, also fair) they acted like I was crazy. I said the previous person I spoke to said I could do this and they told me no one would say that because that's not how it works. BUT THEY DID SAY THAT! Why would I make that up?? If they had told me a swap out was not part of the one free hour per month, I may have looked elsewhere because that is the sole reason I chose this company! If you are storing items temporarily and don't need to access any of those items, then this place is completely fine. But if you are looking to use them to take advantage of their "one free hour" per month policy, don't bother. Oh also, don't buy boxes through them. If they have to box your items they will charge you (the delivery guys were super open about this and great) but an XL box is $17! read more

Update:(12/17/19) After reaching out on social media it seems that clutter has refunded the $400 that was fraudulently taken out of my account for tip. I thank the corporate team for promptly investigating this situation and refunding the money to my account. Understandably, I hope you understand that I'm still shooketh by this situation and will only give this company one additional star for finally rectifying the situation. That additional star is for that and that alone.‍ Working with the clutter company has been an absolutely terrifying experience. I no longer needed the service after this month and I was trying to have my items returned to an address outside of their service area. Instead of them allowing customers to come to the warehouse with a moving truck to retrieve their items... they force you to meet them anywhere inside of their service area...it could be a business or home. Seeing as though my home is not in the service area it became a hassle to figure out where to meet the clutter team. We came up with a plan to meet them at uhaul for a smoother transaction. The windows of time are 2-3 hours so imagine having to figure out what time they will arrive when you're not waiting in the comfort of your home? Luckily the movers were willing to work with our schedule and everything was moved in 15 minutes. Clearly the move was smooth and we were met with no issues at the time of the move. It was the charges after we departed from the clutter team that have caused great panic and anxiety. Let's talk charges! Before this month I was met with raises in rental fee with little notice. The whole purpose of using the service was to have a safe place to keep my belongings while waiting on getting the space to move them into. So imagine being told your rental fee is going up $20 dollars with little notice... I was paying 80-90 with tax and that went up to $115. When I signed the contract I had 1 free hour of moving. This last month that was taken away ... I became aware of that as I had to pay a $65 reservation fee before service... this is something I never had to do in the last year of service. After Thursday's return, the clutter team did not charge me any additional moving fees but did manage to charge a hefty $400 tip onto my Visa card. I'm not wealthy and have never left more than 20% tip on any service. So this makes zero sense seeing as though the service was $65. The move took place and was over a little before 9:15 am. this charge was emailed to me at 9:30 AM. I was at work at the time and did not see the email until the later that day. I did respond in a timely manner and let the clutter team know that this transaction was unauthorized. I figured they would email me back sometime Friday during business hours but they did not. It's the holiday season and I figured they were busy as we all are. So, I called Saturday morning ....the rep answers the phone saying "hello, is this Sable?" as if she already knew who I was and why I was calling. The customer service rep told me that she was aware of the situation and that the email has been sent to the supervisor team where they were working on approving the return of my funds. She assured me they would touch base with me soon. I did not get the follow up email until this morning.... Sunday morning... (remember this started Thursday) and in the follow up email it said that they would not be returning my funds as there are many steps in the tipping process that would ensure that I was aware of what I was being charged for tips. This is obviously not true as there was never any digital signature on a $400 tip that was emailed to me and I am now believing that one of the movers actually made unauthorized transaction without my knowledge. There were two movers one was very polite and excited the other one was sort of sketchy. I called and emailed right after the follow up. Clutter stands with the resolution of not returning the tip. This is certainly not a fair resolution to the issue. Clutter feels that the only thing they need to do is give me a clarification on the process of tipping which obviously I know how it works because I've used their service for over a year now. The rep I spoke with this morning,Miranda, went from sounding warm and cooperative to robotic and "matter of fact-ish" after I told her I wasn't ok with the resolution and needed to speak to a supervisor. Instead of her connecting me with the supervisor, she told me they would follow back with me Monday. I told her if they were able to make a decision on a Sunday morning then they should be able to talk to me directly instead of using a middle man. She claims they will say the same thing but my issue is why can't I speak with them if they just sent the email 1 hour before the call. My clutter experience was one of the most unorganized rude experiences ever. Things started off okay but once the entire appointment started it seemed like this company does not have clear information on how their operations team work. I was informed I'd be able to look my appointment return date once the movers arrived, that was false information, the movers told me to call it in. After calling it in they said I couldn't book until 3 days later, after following up to book I was told to call back in a total of 5 days later. The morning of my appointment I received a text saying they were only able to locate 33 of my 37 items. The same day my roommate received a text saying they were only bringing 3 of her 16 items!!! 3!! I placed a claim and they informed me that they found my items and scheduled an appointment to come back out. They arrived the next day with just 1 item!! Saying they had no idea where my other items are. I sat in an empty apartment for 6 days as all of my large items were missing. When calling to address my concerns and have my return date set up for the 3rd time customer service gave me an attitude due to me requesting my items right away, they had zero sense of urgency considering this was a mistake that they made. Three of my items were damaged and there are scratches on my furniture. As I paid up front and Clutter wont accommodate anything for their error, even the movers informed me to call this issue in to issue something for this. They informed me "There is nothing they can do" This is not a professional business, as ONE they wouldn't loose your items in storage and they would do their absolute best to fix the error and take care of the customer. There seems to be a HUGE disconnect between where their offices are located (California) and where the businesses are ran from (Chicago) The only plus to this experience are the movers. They came late and the movers had no way to get in immediate contact with their own company!!! They could not move because the elevator reservation was ending and before when I specified about how strict my building is with reservations they assured me that they had everything covered and everything will be fine. I contacted 3 times to receive this confirmation. In the end, I had a ridiculously long phone call with them with no resolution. Update: After speaking with someone from the office they apologized for any and all inconvenience. I must say they were very helpful and considerate..... At first I thought this company was the best thing since slice bread, until I called for a pick up and drop off. On October 7th, I scheduled a pick up for the very first time. The movers were wonderful, no issues. I called later during the month of October for a pick up, but had death in the family. Cancelling was not a problem. I was not charger $100, since my cancellation was done 48 hours prior to pick up. So I reschedule the pick up and ask if I could also request for a return on the same date. The representative ask me for the item number. She than explained that I couldn't schedule a pick up and return at the same time. I could either schedule a pick up or a return, crazy right? So I did, I scheduled a pick up via the representative for the 12th of November and online I scheduled a return of 1 item on the 5th. Here's the problem, you are allowed 1 hour of free service. Afterwards, it cost $65 per hour, per mover. My return which was very light, had two movers. I called on the 5th and spoke to a different representative. I asked why there were 2 movers for this return. I was told, 2 or 3 movers could be scheduled that day for other jobs, so I pay regardless if I need 1 or 2 movers. And than I'm told, my pick up for the 12th isn't free since I used my 1 free hour on the 5th, how? They arrived at 8:50 am and was out the door at 8:56.am. She explained that the information provided to me earlier was incorrect, that I could've schedule a pick up and return on the same date and time. Although she was very nice and professional, my blood pressure went up. You see, they couldn't waive any fees for their error. Because it was nothing they could do, I cancelled my pick up for the 12th. I plan on scheduling a return in December or February for the rest of my items. The guys are always great. Joshua was very pleasant and kind. When I first discovered Clutter they were an absolute godsend to me. At the time I was going through a separation and needed to slowly move out. They came, they even helped me pack a few items. Super helpful and took a lot of stress off my back. It took me about a year and a half to go through my home of 10 years and they would come and pick up items and drop off items that I needed again. When I finally moved they brought me what I needed from the storage. For a single mom the price was right and the help was priceless. All that came to an end, without me even knowing it. They jacked up my price and overcharged me on my space and insurance. Now they charge a truck fee and a per item fee and its just ridiculous. Those prices are very high in addition to a high monthly fee. Very disappointing. Seems convenient to have them come and drop off and pick up but sometimes appointments are a month out. So this is an update to my previous experience and review with Clutter: Let me begin by saying that this review has nothing to do with the two guys that I wrote the previous review about. That was a different appointment and those 1st guys were great. This grievance is about Clutter's policies and operations as a company concerning my most recent experience. I had to knock two stars off because of an unfair and quit shady incident that took place during my last pick up. Here's what happened: The guys showed up about an hour early (I have a sneaky suspicion this has something to do with it, but we'll get to this later). I get a call from the crew and I apologized for not being home and informed the lead that I could make back 15 minutes before my appointment was scheduled to begin. He didn't seem pleased with that so I hightailed it to get back, as his tone indicated to me that I was at risk for being a no show. I get back, was already packed, so all they had to do was wrap my mattresses and label the boxes. This was SUPPOSED to be my final pick up. By the time they only had a couple of boxes and a small table left to label and load, the lead informed me that they "just got a call to leave now and help another crew who was behind schedule" and "wouldn't be able to load anything else". I was peeved but just figured I'd just have the inconvenience of having to schedule another appointment. It gets worse. He then proceeded to photograph things that were leftover. I informed him that the items were being picked up by people I was donating to, so photographing them was unnecessary, but he said "taking pictures is best just in case the items are still here and we have to take them next time". The time he took to take pics could have and should have been used taking the last couple of boxes and table that I'm sitting here staring at! I can't help but feel that they felt justified in leaving without finishing because they showed up early and lied about having to help another team in order to leave early. Because of their failure to take a couple of items that would've taken them 10 extra minutes tops to load on the truck, I have been informed (after they left and I gave this crew a good review in spite of my annoyance) that when they do come back, I will be paying $65 per mover, 1 hour minimum. So $130 for them to take this little table and 2 boxes! It's not my fault and I'm not sure if the company or lead mover is at fault, but I do know as a customer, I should NOT be financially penalized because either they failed to properly staff a move that had nothing to do with mine, or the flat out unprofessionalism of the crew assigned to me for the day. I was able to place an order to get any box I wanted back up to 4x per month for the same rate and insurance fee as all the other local places. I felt like it was too good to be true. Well it was. During Covid 19 they changed everything indefinitely they now charge me $9 per box to return plus a $49 minimum fee to drive it out. WOW the cost of getting my boxes back is more expensive than what is inside each box. I called to complain and the nice people gave me a small credit. They informed I can have all my items delivered back free since the service I signed up for is no longer available but I'd have to take them all at one time. Beware of unannounced changes. I don't understand how such a company can be in business. We have scheduled our move three weeks ago for yesterday delivery with arranging packing and shipping of our items internationally. Not only did they not show up but no-one bothered informing us. When we called, they said they were rescheduling it to today from 7-10 am but again, no-one showed up. When we called again they said they will be on the way shortly. Again, they did not show up. It is 2 pm now, our other taskers are paid and waiting to receive our items and we were just told, they will be closed for the next 3 days and will possibly reschedule to next Thursday. We were given so many different info and promises, it looks like not one person knows what they are doing. We already lost $700 and if this is not solved and delivered by tomorrow, we will lose a total of $1500 due to this incompetent company and customer service. We will for sure report them with Business Bureau, require Clutter to reimburse us for the loss of $1500 and surely look for another company. This is unacceptable! This company's mindset is not to serve or help, they are not letting us to speak with supervisors and there is no escalation process; we simply can't get to our own property and items we need. Clutter (especially in Chicago) is totally a disgusting thief that should never be in business. The movers and employees working in this deceitful company should really be ashamed of themselves! -I was ok with them even when they underquoted and later charged me significantly more. The real problem arose when they returned my stuff. Many of my items came damaged, and they decisively refused to reassemble the furniture that they had promised to reassemble when they had picked up the items. I gave the movers a permission to disassemble the furniture, only after being reassured several times that they will assemble everything back later on. However, they very unexpectedly changed their words upon the return of items, referring to a change in policy that they have unilaterally made sometime during the storage period. Then, the scammers, so brazenly, offered me a list of assembly services of other companies that would cost me a couple hundred dollars. What's more unbelievable, the movers later so quickly changed their minds and decided to ignore the outrageous policy change that they made when I promised them an extra tip for the reassembly. Now in 3 days, the bed, which they had seemed to have put back in its original condition, broke down in the middle of a night because they have done such a fantastic job with the reassembly! Do not be deceived by their advertisements whatsoever! You'll be treated as a total pushover as soon as they pick up your stuff and get your first payment. I signed up for Clutter storage, and I was initially really happy and impressed with how great the movers were when they took my things. Quick, comprehensive, and efficient. The movers were also super nice! However, getting the stuff back has been nothing short of a nightmare. I had initially signed up for a full delivery of our stuff with a "time window" option, and my moving day fell between the given dates. However, when I checked my account one day, my appointment was gone, and the only next available appointment was 5/1, even though I was moving on 4/13. I contacted support and was told to sign up for the 5/1 appointment and then reach back out to support and ask for a reschedule for a closer date... No luck. Then, I figured I would just hire a third-party company to go get my stuff from storage, so I contacted support about that. I received an email 8AM Wednesday morning from a "live-ops agent" with a contract and available pick-up times. I immediately responded with the completed contract and my desired pickup date (4/16). I wasn't hearing back, so I sent another email in the afternoon, still didn't hear back. I sent another email Thursday afternoon, didn't hear anything back. Today, I still hadn't heard anything from the agent, and my requested pickup time wasn't scheduled. I contacted support, and they connected me to a different live-ops agent. This agent told me that now I can't pick anything up until Monday 4/18, and that it's going to cost more than $400 dollars to have ANOTHER COMPANY simply pick my things up from the warehouse, which is literally the same amount they charge to deliver it themselves. Not only will I have to pay another company a few hundred dollars to just get my stuff out of storage, but now I'll be charged by Clutter on top of it. I responded to the agent asking for more info, and I haven't received a response to what I sent. I did receive another email saying that my appointment was moved another day though, so that was a fun surprise. At this point, I'm stuck in an apartment without my stuff that I need to work, I'm not receiving any kind of response from support, and I'm being charged hundreds of dollars by Clutter to have another company get my stuff out of their storage. Meanwhile, if I go online and pretend I'm a new customer right now, I can easily schedule a moving appointment for this Sunday. But if I try to schedule an appointment to get my stuff back, an appointment isn't available until 5/6. They're happy to take a new customer's stuff and money, but once they have it, they have no problem dragging their feet to get it back to you. read more

worst company for storage, they changed my rate twice in a year, when I requested for the final shipment of my stuff they canceled my appointment at the last moment, in short I do not recommend this fraudulent company at all. read more

Clutter is a company that I would hire for a smaller move. I hired them once and they damaged my bed frame. Although I went through a lot of frustration and stress with this company, their Community Engagement Manager reached out to me, and was able to compensate me for my bed frame they broke. My moving team was wonderful - Javier, Abdelhadi & Mateusz. Very nicely done, wrapping each item carefully, taking pictures, cataloging & moving it onto the vehicle. They were very respectful of my many vintage pieces. Of course, I had more stuff than the size unit I picked, but they helped me decide what items to put in my basement to avoid going over the next sized unit. I gave 4 stars because of two reasons: One, is that their sizing only allows (cubically) for 4' in height (hence my miscalculation on the unit size). It would seem reasonable if I'm coming from a 10x20 it should FIT in a 10x20. The height info should be disclosed on the website. Second reason for 4 stars - I've now read a lot of negative reviews on pricing changes & damaged items. Very much hope that I don't have these issues going forward because the initial quote, day of scheduling & service (packing) was great! read more

Buyer Beware! They quoted me round about 350 per month and then direct debited 850 per month. They also do not answer their phone or provide any level of customer service. When I went to remove my things, they charged me an additional 1,300 even though before signing up for the service they told me the drop was complimentary. After multiple attempts of trying to work out the very very poor customer service I had to swallow an additional 4,000 in extra charges and they absolutely nothing to correct their false marketing and care and concern for dishonest business practices. read more
