HORRIBLE COMPANY! Boycott Clutter! I placed items in long-term storage during the pandemic with a company called MakeSpace. They were great. Clutter acquired MakeSpace about a year after that. They doubled my monthly rental, and charged outrageous amounts to have the items delivered. When I finally had my items delivered, furniture was damaged and broken beyond repair. I reported a damage claim, and the claims department gave me the runaround then ghosted me. The compensation they offer for broken items is $1 per POUND. They pay by weight, not by the value or replacement cost. If you accept their paltry compensation, the Settlement Agreement you have to sign includes a Confidentiality article where you must promise not to bad-mouth the company on any reviews or social media or in person, and never reveal the terms or the existence of the Settlement Agreement. The document actually says that you agree to say "No Comment" if asked about Clutter and your experience with them. They offered me around $300 for damages to well over $3,000 worth of items. I didn't take the offer. I'll forfeit $300 if it means I can tell my story online and encourage people to boycott Clutter. My experience was in New York, and apparently people have the same issue with Clutter in other cities. The movers who delivered my items were great. We all saw that the damage was not the result of them moving the items. The items showed signed of prolonged mishandling while in storage. Absolutely horrendous support. They will be relatively helpful and nice before they pick up your things, but once they have them - it's absolute trash. I ordered delivery and indicated that my building only gives me 3 hour slot and I booked it from 9 to 12. Since no one reached out to confirm, I messaged their support chat - who said that they are going to 'add a note' and operations team will be in touch. No one was in touch so I messaged them again after a day and this person said that... they'll 'add a note' to my request and I'll get confirmation the day before. The day before I got a message saying that my delivery window is 12 to 3. Some extra research gave me their phone number where again I was told 'they'll see what they can do'. Clutter is the worst company, of any kind, that I've ever interacted with. I became a customer after Clutter purchased my previous storage company, Callbox. They managed to destroy 2 family heirlooms and eventually held my belongings hostage, refusing to respond to emails/calls until I started messaging people on LinkedIn. Because they refused to deliver my furniture or make any accommodations, I had to schedule a second cross-country move just for the furniture in my Clutter unit. Their day-to-day employees are nice (shout-out Grace!) but their middle-management is dismissive, does not care at all about customers, takes no responsibility for their company's mistakes, and hides behind their "corporate policies". Using clutter cost me thousands of dollars more than it should have. It is extraordinarily exasperating. I cannot fathom how they remain in business and assume they'll go bankrupt soon. Great experience (and great pricing). They packed and picked up my daughter's dorm room stuff on Long Island in June...and put it in storage. Then on August 31st (a Sunday) they delivered everything to her new dorm in Manhattan. The experience was great from the start (in May) to the finish (at the end of August). Every step of the process was pleasant and went SO SMOOTHLY. Not to mention, the Clutter customer service reps via telephone were also responsive and excellent, when I had some questions about final delivery. The packing and delivery crew were so polite and so helpful and accommodating of my daughter. Had a pickup window of 7am - 3pm. Waited all day, then was told there was delays and given a new window of 4:15-5:15, so I left for a quick scheduled dr appointment at 3:30. The movers showed around 3:30 with no prior notice. I asked the guy if he could wait 20 minutes for me to get home, and he said yes. I get home and he has cancelled my pickup. This summer I was working in a remote Tanzanian community working to improve access to clean water, healthcare services and education for little children. I did not have access to personal internet access and this is information that becomes relevant in the later part of this saga. I am also an international student in the US so all my belongings have to go into storage during the summer and clutter has been my choice of service provider for the past few years. A little less than a month ago I tried to use our shared computer in remote Ngorongoro Tanzania to book an appointment to get my things back. Every time I got to almost finalizing the appointment your website would glitch. I tried several times over several days without any success so I tried to troubleshoot by contacting your customer service team through the chat option on your website. I would type down my concern and press the chat button then wait to be connected but I was never connected. I would wait so long the website would log me out due to inactivity. I tried this several times with no success. As this was not a personal computer but one shared with a larger community I could not log in to my email to escalate this that way. I also could not call because all your customer service numbers are US-based and international calls--considering the average 10-minute hold time--would have been astronomically expensive. When I finally came back to the US and could call your team, an agent told me "you could have just called?"--a privileged statement, considering she didn't ask why that wasn't viable. By the time I came back to the US, the dates I was hoping to have my items delivered were fully booked. I tried your waitlist and kept failing to secure a slot. I once more called and spoke to Shroesha who was very dismissive and failed to understand that the reason I could not secure my appointment was because your website was glitchy and chat support unresponsive. After close to an hour on the phone, she allowed me to request a callback from her supervisor Mohan. Mohan called me back on August 22, but I missed his call. He left a voicemail and I returned it as soon as I saw the message. When I called back Mohan wasn't available and the offices were about to close. I called again August 23: on the first call I was on hold 10 minutes before the agent dropped the call. I called back and was on hold for 6 minutes before being connected--again the agent dropped the call. I called a third time and immediately asked them to stop dropping my calls. This is when I was finally connected to Mohan Das, the supervisor. I introduced myself, then suddenly people started screaming and dogs barking--and Mohan dropped the call. I called a fourth time, asked for him again, and questioned his professionalism and why he dropped my calls. He claimed those were street sounds. But why not just close the window? Instead, he hung up. He then told me there's nothing I can do and I should just take the September 11 appointment--after I explained I could have booked on time if your website worked and your chat service had responded. Now it feels like I'm being punished for not getting an appointment on time, yet your software was the issue. I've made over 20 calls and no one has tried to help. It feels like a slap in the face after being a customer for years and recommending you to others. In previous years, we'd call Clutter and be connected to direct staff who were courteous and helpful. Your overseas support is not well trained. They don't have the spatial or geographic context that's essential for moving. Two of them suggested I go pick up my things at the warehouse. The warehouse is in Jersey, I live in New York. That's a multi-hour trip. Also, I wouldn't be able to use nearly $400 in credit on my account that I planned to use for delivery. Edit: I emailed for further assistance and Joshua said he'd call me--like others, that never happened. Then today Clutter charged me for rescheduling an appointment less than 48 hours before it. This is insane because I haven't managed to get an appointment. They claim I rescheduled an appointment today (24 August) that was set for 23 August. How can I cancel an appointment that was yesterday? I suspect they snuck in an appointment to claim I had one and missed it. But when we got it all back - most (if not all) of the furniture had some sort of damages ranging from wood table top have chip/splinter edges to bottom of cabinets have pulled out damages and major ones like the sofa leg broken off. This was the worst service I have ever experienced. Not only were they over 5 hours late, once they arrived they promptly took a lunch break. I asked what the reason for the initial delay was, and they apparently had crashed into a car and had to wait for the police. I was already frustrated that they had lost the hardware for my bespoke bed, which costs $1000. They had no idea that it was missing and didn't offer any additional help in that regard. 10 minutes into moving, one of the movers had a spontaneous nosebleed that rendered him incapacitated. The other mover was frozen in shock and promptly stopped doing his job. I had to manually lug up the boxes that they should have been moving. Although I am sympathetic to his health needs, it felt like a series of mishaps that prevented the move from going as planned. Eventually, I had to call a friend to help carry the bigger items with the remaining mover as they did not send backup. Clutter needs to find a better method for parking and parking prep, as they had to block the street and were being honked at by angry drivers all day. By the end of the experience, I felt terrible for the movers but also very frustrated at what seems like a huge lack of experience on their part, as well as Clutters. So in summary, not only did I not get all of the items that I had left in storage, but I had to call my own backup for what turned out to be a long and arduous day. I called today to confirm the location of where my items would be stored and the rep told me she was not sure because I was not a customer yet. I told her that I am scheduled tomorrow as I just made the reservation the night before. She then told me that my stuff would be stored somewhere far in New Jersey which I was so confused about. I told her to cancel and she said that I would still be charged since it was not within a 48 hour notice. I said I thought you said I wasn't a customer until tomorrow??? Cricket. Clutter is not only the worst moving company I've ever used, but the worst company I've ever interacted with. They sent a document ahead of the appointment saying they would have 3 movers. We originally moved the same apartment with 3 movers in 5 hours, so we felt confident it would be fine... The day came and only 2 movers arrived, along with a far too small truck. After 9 hours, they were unable to finish the move. They automatically scheduled a follow up appointment for 6 days later. 6 days!? Our lease was up and had to work out a deal with the broker to keep the remaining items in the basement. During this move, by the way, a number of issues came up.... We paid for the extra packing service so that they would pack some of our things, including clothes. They came with only a few wardrobe boxes and could only fit so many clothes on the tiny wardrobe box racks, so the rest they just shoved into a pile in the bottom of the box. One of the movers used MY box, marked Fragile, to hold the door to the building open. That box contained sensitive documents and was just out there for hours before I was made aware. I asked him to move it, he didn't. When I moved it myself I saw a hole had been punctured in the box. They broke some kitchenware and generally packed without any regard for what they were packing, putting heavy items on light items, packing knives pointed straight down... When it became clear that they were not finishing that day, we were on the line with customer service for hours to try to fix the issue. Customer service is located in a far away country with no ability to speak with either the local dispatch or any of the movers. All they can do is see what is booked and tell you. Whenever we asked to escalate it to a manager, we were told they would call us, which never happened. They tried to tell us that it's the weekend and they are short on staff. It's a weekend at the end of the month! When else do people move? One of the movers, to her credit, called her fellow movers who came and helped in the last hour of the day, putting a few items on their truck. We were privy to her disgruntlement with her own dispatch and it's insane that she had to do that on their behalf while also being paid hourly to pack. Then, for the follow up appointment, which again was 6 days later...they gave me an arrival window, which then kept pushing every 15 minutes, which renders an arrival window meaningless. Eventually, they blew past the 3 hour window by 2 hours. During that time, I spoke with customer service again, asking if they can guarantee showing up at all, given their window was a lie. She told me that they cannot speak with the movers (of course) but that they will call me when they are finished with their last job. After 5 hours of waiting, I ended up spotting my movers' truck at the end of the block by chance. They seemed surprised no one had called me (last time the movers called me directly). These movers also chose to use my box to hold the door open, which I can only assume now is company policy. And to top it all off, after Clutter had sent an email stating follow up appointments would be free for the first 6 hours, just like the original, I was charged for the entire follow up, which again only happened because they failed to plan appropriately for the original appointment. They tried to argue that the future appointment 6 days later was actually "the same appointment", which is some insane logic. In short...Worst. Company. Ever. BEWARE! THE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY I'VE EVER DEALT WITH IN MY LIFE! Throw your belongings in the trash before using Clutter--the garbage men will handle them better & at least it will be free. They destroyed my property & refuse to do anything about it. Here's my story: after a divorce and Covid, I had to significantly downsize to move into smaller place so I used the service in which they pick up your things & store them remotely (u cannot access your things while they are in storage). I also used the service because it was good deal, but it was a bait & switch- they nearly tripled the rental price in the 4 years my stuff was there. I ended up spending nearly 20K. But, I bit the bullet because I believed my stuff was safe.It came back damaged & destroyed. When Clutter returned my things, I was shocked by their condition. The boxes were crushed, torn apart, in shreds...it looked as if my items were air-dropped into the back of their truck from 10,000 feet above and then attacked by a pack of wolverines. My things were strewn all over the floor of the filthy truck! It took hours of extra time paid to their movers because they had to collect the stuff put them in new boxes, just so they could physically move my stuff out of the truck. Clutter would lead you to believe that your items will be well-cared for as they photograph & label every box/item they move & upload the images to your account. My boxes were so trashed half the labels had been ripped off, leading to further confusion. When one pays such a premium price one would expect decent service, not this disorganized mayhem. Anyway, there is photographic proof taken by the company themselves that show my items were packed meticulously. When Clutter returned my items, I also took photos of my destroyed items as the movers were moving them out of the truck as proof that they were clearly destroyed while in Clutter's possession. What was supposed to be a simple, stress-free move turned into an expensive, chaotic disaster. First, their communication is abysmal. I had to chase them down multiple times to confirm basic logistics. On the day of the move, the team arrived late and completely unprepared. They didn't bring the proper packing materials, they moved at a snail's pace, and treated my belongings like they were hauling garbage. Several items were damaged or lost entirely, including furniture that now has visible scratches and dents -- and zero accountability from their side. What's worse, the pricing is deliberately deceptive. They quote you a reasonable rate, then nickel-and-dime you with hidden fees, extended time charges, and nonsense service add-ons. By the end, I was charged nearly double the estimate. Their "storage" option is equally sketchy. BEWARE! The worst experience I have had with any company EVER. Clutter bought MakeSpace, the original company I signed up with a few years ago. I was told by one of Clutter's drivers that when the new company took over they moved all of our stored items to a new warehouse (without our knowledge) and many items were damaged or lost. He said he was going to quit because he was tired of dealing with distraught customers every day. I had a beautiful CAST IRON canopy bed stored but when I had it delivered back to me for my daughter it was terribly damaged and half of it was missing. (the entire canopy structure, all the finials and the bed slats were gone)! How they could break a cast iron headboard section in two is beyond my comprehension. As you can see by the photos the bed pieces were wrapped in flimsy plastic that was completely shredded. I decided right then to move everything out and close my account.....another fiasco. (Oh and they sent me $67.00 to settle my claim for a VERY expensive bed). In addition to the bed there were many boxes, including the one with my wedding dress in it, that were terribly damaged as well. Simply inexcusable. When my movers arrived promptly at 8am for a confirmed appointment at the warehouse there was NO ONE THERE. It took me over an hour of frantic phone calls, which were useless since the "customer service" calls go to India and they couldn't help, and a chat online to get help. All the while I am BEGGING my movers not to leave. Someone finally showed up at 9am but I was charged a $135.00 waiting fee by my moving company. Stay far away from this company. Not to mention that their storage is overpriced and is in reality smaller than should be (4ft ceiling instead of 8ft as used by others). At the end, very hard to get to their Customer service since it is outsourced to India. Only if you make a Claim you can finally get connected to US team. Very overpriced and unreliable. CLUTTER IS A JOKE! SAVE YOUR MONEY & YOUR ITEMS FROM BEING BROKEN! This is my second time using the company (previously used in 2018 in Califonia) and this experience has been a nightmare. Entrusting Clutter with my belongings for 3 months has resulted in a broken 70-inch TV they refuse to reimburse me for and the reality that Clutter's promises of care and insurance are empty at best. My TV was in WORKING condition before Clutter, but didn't come back the same way. After following the claim process immediately after seeing the damage, Clutter continues to refuse responsibility for the damage, hiding behind flimsy excuses (saying I packed the item when I asked the movers about this when they arrived) and showing a complete lack of accountability. One of the movers helped my boyfriend remove the TV off the wall and they completed/finalized the packing of the item. The "insurance" I paid for monthly? Worthless. It seems to be a mere ploy to give customers a false sense of security and get more money. I also found it interesting that my claim was denied in less than 24 hours with a copy/paste response. This prompted to understand what their claim investigation process is and for some semblance of transparency, I requested photos and videos of where and how my items were stored in their warehouse. I've received nothing beyond "your item was stored upright within a wooden frame." Their failure to share this information is not just poor customer service; it's a red flag waving their lack of transparency and accountability. Who knows where are how they store items? Anyone considering using Clutter, you're better off somewhere else. Their service is a facade. The protection/ "insurance" they claim to offer and make you buy into is nonexistent when it matters. Offered me $25 for the trouble and to "file a claim". And then when I cancelled, they insisted that the $200 fee was justified. Avoid these clowns at all cost. Maybe their teams are good? Maybe not? But if their policies and their customer experience is anything to go by, I wouldn't take the risk. I'd rather, and am, happily paying more to get this done professionally. To whatever manager from Clutter that will inevitably read this --- do better. Full Story Below: I had such high hopes for Clutter but today's experience is an absolute joke. I had booked my storage for today and my appointment window was between 9am and 12pm. As part of their process, they say that you'll get an automated text where you can track the team's ETA to your location. Sounds cool. And this morning, I checked my phone and, sure enough, there was a text with a link to a little map with my address and the arrival window between 1pm and 2pm. What...? But, to make it even more confusing, the little blurb says: "Your team is ahead of schedule. Don't worry, they will wait until your original arrival window opens if you're not ready for us." But... the time is after my window. How can they be "ahead of schedule"??? I was super confused so I gave it some time in case it needed to settle (start of the day and everything) but around 9am I was getting a little nervous that the status wasn't updating at all. No little truck making its way through NJ or Manhattan to get to me... just the same confusing message. So I contacted their support. They discourage calls (48 business hour response time?!?!?!) and instead say the quickest response is via their outsourced chat agents. Fine. I've worked in CSAT and QA, and this is just their choice. The agent was very reassuring and said that the time I was seeing was just an estimate and that the team was going to be there during the original window as scheduled. Well... I had booked the building's service elevator, arranged my work schedule, as well as shutting down utilities and cleaning services expecting the time line to hold. Was she sure? Yes. I had nothing to worry about. Stupid me. I didn't worry. I carried on doing last minute packing and whatnot. I got several texts around 10am which said that they're sending me a new team! Yay! Finally, someone will be coming directly to me. The agent was right. This was almost immediately followed by another text saying they're sending... another team new team (??) and we're now back at the between 1pm and 2pm window. What is happening...? So I contact support a second time. Insisting on knowing where the team is because now we're pushing past 12pm and clearly not going to make the original window. The service elevator reservation has expired and I'm realizing that I might have to miss work obligations. A new arrival window was given to me of between 1230pm and 330pm because the team ran into some unexpected delays. Okay, that's fine, but why am I the one pushing the company to tell me what's happening? No communication or actual updates unless I was the one making them happen. And they missed their commitment to arrive within the window. For my trouble, the agent offered me $25 and that I should file a claim. Very disappointing. A couple more "we're sending you a new team!" messages that kept extending the time window (at this point I know the game and I don't even care at this point) and it's now close to 3pm and we're clearly not making even the second window they committed to reaching me. I finally have had enough, call them to cancel because this is ridiculous and I need to scramble to find alternative options given this company can't do what it says it will. And the support agent says that they will charge me the $200 and it will be valid. Nope. Absolutely not. Go ahead and charge me, I'll fight it with the credit card company, and I have all the receipts and they won't get a thing. DON'T USE CLUTTER. Absolute shambles of a company. read more

Clutter damaged my filing cabinet, rendering it unusable. You also damaged a customized workbench I had made. But your worst offense is the complete inability for customers to speak with a human being at the company or even communicate via email or text. I had several questions along the way but had to make do with the FAQ on your website (which is well designed and appealing). For these reasons I will not use Clutter again and will discourage from friends and colleagues from doing so. It gives me no pleasure to write this. I want to support businesses as much as I can. But Clutter has too many negatives to warrant repeat business or positive word of mouth. The best thing about my experience was the dealing with the nice movers you have as employees. That, unfortunately, doesn't compensate for the damages. How do I even go about getting compensated for these damages? There's no way to find out. read more

IF you are thinking of using this company - beware!! The pick up went fine but when our belongings were in storage - $6000 worth of them went "missing" and were not delivered with our other items. Customer services "promises" to get back to us but never does. We placed a claim and were told (via fine print) that we are only eligible for a $1000 refund. We paid for delivery, we paid our storage and taking a $5000 loss is NOT acceptable!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Among our missing items are six dining side chairs (@ $349 each= $2094- we have receipts!). How does a company lose all six chairs..??? Sounds like a scam to me! Also missing is a media cabinet ($1359) and half our dishes, silverware and yes - half a bedframe! and more. So how long will we sleep on the floor, sit on the floor and use plastic forks and plates- it has been weeks! If I could get negative stars to Clutter Storage I would. They obviously do not care yet I still hold out hope that they will do the right thing and at least contact us. (It would also be nice to hear from someone who resides in the USA). Overall a really horrible experience. 1) Packed my stuff hastily, which has resulted in almost every single piece of furniture having some damage (ranging from dinged corners, scratches, to fully being destroyed). See below. 2) Movers came at 7am even though I requested for later times and rescheduled my appointment resulting in a cancellation fee that they will not refund me. I had my apartment without furniture for 2 weeks -- and had to pay for that additional time in storage. 3) Claims are paid at $1/lb for damaged items. They destroyed a $1,300 lamp I had and gave me a bag of broken shards -- and the paid claim was $30 lol they would not let me refute it -.- just a disappointment. I would suggest to buy insurance or avoid the company completely. I had stored my items for 1 month only -- fully broken items include: my dresser, lamp, printer, artwork, cabinet.
