I took my mom here for her birthday and I had such high expectations because they are part of the Glowbal group, but I was quite disappointed. I had mad reservations for the three of us, and when I had called an hour before we were due to dine asking if we could come in 30 mins earlier, it sounded like they lost our reservation. That was kind of annoying, and I believe that they had lost it as well because our table wasn't set when we arrived and I was told that we took part of a table that was a 9 top that didn't show up.. What if they had shown up? Then we wouldn't have had a table even if we had arrived when we were supposed to arrive. What was even more disappointing was that the person who took my reservation even asked if we were dining for a special occasion and I had said that it was for my moms birthday, but when we paid up, my mom told our server that it was her birthday and she sounded surprised. Which pretty much confirms that our reservation was lost.
Food: We ordered the calamari, ahi tuna tartare, the sockeye salmon, the seafood linguine and snow crab legs. The calamari was like wok-fried calamari - very generic, especially with it being a higher end restaurant, I expected better than that.. I've had much better calarmi elsewhere. It also tasted as though it had been swimming in oil. The tartare was quite tasty tho, but how can you go wrong with raw fish. My salmon tasted extremely bland, I had to force myself to finish most of it cause it cost $35. I must admit it looked extremely fresh though. The risotto or orzo rice that came with it was amazing tho, melted in your mouth, probably my favourite part of the meal.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere in the restaurant is very very nice, decor is on point - especially with the colour coordination of the furniture and the servers attire. Lighting was just perfect for me, and the music was at a good level with it being loud enough to hear but not so loud that you need to shout. The music style was hip/remixed top 40s, which was enjoyable.
Service: I had asked for meal to be coursed, appetizers first and entrees after but we weren't even finished our appetizers yet and they had placed our entrees in the middle as though we were sharing. (?!) And that was pretty much inexcusable for me, especially with it being fine dining, I expected much much better than that. That was basically a rookie mistake in my opinion. I'm not sure whose fault that was cause it was clear that there were many people working the floor. I could tell because all the servers were wearing the same dress and the bussers(?) were all wearing the same tie and dress shirt. (That was a nice touch, but with such a large coorporation, I expected it) Our server was quite nice but I kind of had a feeling that she didn't want to service us, either that or it was too busy in the restaurant. The restaurant was full when we had arrived. I also noticed that a table that had been seated after us had received their calamari before ours which could mean that the server took their order first, but she hadn't even come by to ask us for our order. I had to flag somebody else down to take our order before our server came back to us.
Food: 3/5
Atmosphere: 5/5

I still tipped her my average 20% because I'm not sure whose fault it is at this point for our poor dining experience at Coast but I don't know if I will ever be back, and I don't think I would recommend this place to anybody, it's definately was not worth the $200 price tag. A little too pretentious, such a shame though, I was looking forward to having a good experience. They just couldn't deliver. read more
