Great service and pretty good food! My friends and I came late on a Sunday and we were seated almost immediately. Our waiter was really friendly, and brought us bread almost immediately. He was also very informing, letting one of us know that the dish she was interested in might be out, telling her to pick a second option just in case. The bread was very, very good. We got refills throughout our meal and while waiting, and the bread basket definitely did help us pass the wait time. I ordered the fish fingers and honestly was not expecting that much. I was blown away by the fish itself, as it was hot and crispy and SO good. The tartar sauce really complimented the fish fingers, and the coleslaw was one of the best I've ever had. The entire plate was great and I found myself saving the last fish finger until the very end. The fries, though, were kind of scrawny and flavorless. However, they were not the main focus of the dish so I was still very happy with the fish fingers. Not my cup of tea. Bread was delicious and I usually skip the bread basket. Worth a trip just to try the bread basket. Outside of that, the seafood did not star, what starred were cloying sauces full of butter and sugar. The trout was good, if trout candy is your thing. Candied pecans and a sugary maple butter sauce with a sugary pecan crust. If that is to your taste, you'll love it. It is not to my savory oriented, farm to table tastes- and I asked the waitress but she did not think the dish was heavy with butter. The double noodle shrimp salad was the same- good but utterly loaded with sugar and oil. So much the dressing was redundant, it was drenched with dressing on side even! I had even asked! It's been a long while since my last review of Coastal Flats on here, but I've continued to be such a regular customer and big fan that it warrants an update if for nothing else than to stay current! CF is one of my favorite GAR (Great American Restaurants), and it seems determined to stay on top. Service is always friendly, food comes out quickly, they deal with dietary restrictions super well, and most importantly, everything is delicious! My favorite thing on the menu remains the Crispy Two Noodle Shrimp Salad -- lightly fried shrimp, mango, a buncha veggies, a delicious sauce... it's addictive! I also really love their crab cakes, they use barely any filler so it's crabalicious and their sauces are really great. I like their cole slaw too, it's a little bit different than the kind you'll get at other places and I really dig it. And, of course, just like all the good GARs, CF has plenty of delicious Ozzie rolls to go around in their bread baskets to put every meal had here over the top. First of all, I loved the vibe of this place. It's in a mall but you feel like you're on a boat. There are cool multi-colored pendant lights and vaulted wooden ceilings. There are metal fish sculptures, too. We sat in a booth, very comfortable. Service was good and our drink order arrived quickly. I felt the drinks were very reasonable and my 6 oz pour of wine seemed bigger. My friend is gluten-free and they had a menu devoted to those gluten sensitive, so kudos for that! She loved her burger and said it was the best gluten-free bun she's had. I had the three noodle shrimp salad. It was absolutely delish, with several lightly fried shrimp, noodles, greens, and a peanut dressing. I have to come back just for that! Coastal Flats is a GAR located in the restaurant cluster near the Barnes & Noble in Tyson's Corner. I have been coming here recently for non-profit committee meetings and while it is was not my pick I am glad it was selected. The staff has been great! I have tried a couple of appetizer items here and all have been enjoyable. My favorite thing to do is take the deviled eggs bacon and dip it in the spinach artichoke dip, yah, that is good stuff! (Maybe they can make a special heart attack appetizer of those two, or maybe just add some of the that yummy bacon to the dip...). All the drinks I have tried have been good as well. Their chips are good and left we wishing they had salsa but I get they are not Silverado. Overall a nice spot in a good location with some yummy food options, a great staff, and is able to accommodate groups. read more

Wasn't expecting to like it as much as my absolute favorite (roast chicken with angel hair and brown butter sauce) but it was as good as it looks. I went to the Tysons corner location tonight 6/18/21. We were a party of 6, three adults and three children (12 year olds). I had wanted two tables and was told by Brittany that this wouldn't be possible because of prior reservations and parties coming in. They proceeded to make us sit in a semi circle table close to the food prep area with a chair at the end. This was an extremely small table and we wouldn't have been able to all sit comfortably. There were so so so so many open tables. Back to back booths and four tops across from the table they tried to sit us in. Brittany refused to seat us at two tables and didn't even attempt at trying to seat us at another larger table. She was very rude, very unreasonable and very un-accommodating. We really were all very put off by her. We ended up sitting at two separate tables at the bar. What I really don't understand is if we came in separately, they would have seated us the way we wanted. Why did Brittany have to be so unwilling to accommodate us? Just from this experience I would really like never to go to your restaurant and recommend everyone else not to either. Considering how much business the restaurant has lost from covid, you would think you would happily accommodate customers, especially when the restaurant has so many open tables!!!! I've been to Great American Restaurants a few times, and I have to say the food is quite amazing, and the Ambiance is great as well. For the most part, at times, there are, at times, people there that are questionable, particularly with the imprint of the subrail. The service can be better because I know the restaurant really does see itself as a high-class place and the staff needs to improve a bit especially hygiene my last to servers seemed like they cologne themselves too much due to use of recreational Marijuana so this is why I give it a 4 star read more

So happy this place was open for a last minute NYE dinner. Mom and I ordered the lobster roll. The bread was toasted light and buttery and packed with perfectly cooked lobster meat. It was so good! The price was very good considering it came with fries and a whole grilled corn. That corn! It was amazing! Hubby said he would come back just for the corn. LOL. Hubby ordered the grilled chicken over angel hair pasta. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist, juicy and full of flavor. It was not drenched in heavy sauce. It was light and clean and so delish. MIL had the roasted chicken salad and she enjoyed it. The dressing was not overwhelming but light. The sliced chicken was also very good. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and blue crab & shrimp fritters. Calamari was very tender. I personally would prefer the sweet sauce over it but everyone else loved it. The fritters were packed with crab and shrimp and also tasty. We were so glad we chose this place for our last meal of the year. We all loved what we ordered. The only thing we didn't love was the waiter. He looked like he hated his job or he may have been having a bad day. He wasn't glad to be there and he definitely wasn't glad to be serving us. He was prompt and answered all our questions but he didn't make us feel good. No personality whatsoever. Everyone went carryout during Covid, and now they don't take orders over the phone. We don't live near Coastal Flats, but we've enjoyed the food so when we're nearby way we'd like to pick up on our way home. We know what we want, including not wanting sauce on a couple of items and extra bacon (we're happy to pay extra and in past orders has worked well) but we can't do that on the website. Especially while driving. Your processes should work for your customers... let's see how long it will be before we get a news report that someone (who could have been on speakerphone after speed dial) died on the beltway ordering food online on their phone. And when we do get that news report, we'll know it likely wasn't the first. This is such an idiotic decision of a company to put their own convenience ahead of the customer, but the food is good so I couldn't give them 1 star. read more

Having been a patron of all the Great American restaurant chains for over 20 years, I'm becoming less and less impressed. Service used to be perfect. Last night the ingredients we asked to be held off were still on the dish. We were short 2 waters. There weren't additional servers to fill refill drinks or clear the table. Food used to be great. Now it's still good, but portion sizes are noticeably shrinking (see shrimp fritters, see chicken breasts now cut in half, side dishes like mushrooms are so few they may was well not be there) and ingredients are becoming lower quality (see cod replacing grouper a few years ago). The menu items never change, which is sad because they used to roll out a new menu every few month. Coastal in particular has has become "predictable". Nothing terrible, nothing great. For $60/person I expect better. read more

I have been to Coastal Flats in Fairfax few years ago, and I had a good experience, so I decided to try this location for the family dinner. I ordered Calamari for starter, because it looked great on Yelp photo review, and it was GREAT! The chili sauce was a bit sweet, but the calamari was crunch and tasty! The rest of the dishes were very delicious as well. The hickory grilled chicken breast was my favorite among the dishes, and sauteed shrimp & creamy grit cakes was the second. The fish tacos were okay. The cole slaw was just not as good as I expected, but overall it was tasty. The server was very nice too. I had a good experience as always! Came here Friday night for dinner with the hubby to wind down after a long week. The service was EXCELLENT! Wait staff was extremely attentive & food all came out within 5-10 minutes! If you are familiar with the Great American Restaurant Chains, you know Ozzie rolls are a MUST! We ordered 2 baskets to start & they came out freshly fried - hot & crispy. & the honey butter is to die for paired with the donut-like bread. We also got the calamari which came out within 5 minutes - again very fresh. It was super crispy & was not overly doused in the pepper jelly. We decided to go light with the entrees so we both got the warm goat cheese & pecan salad - one of our go-tos. The salad is fresh & has all the fixings you want in a salad from the creaminess of the breaded goat cheese, to the sweetness of the candied pecans & crunch from the croutons. We also got a lobster bisque which was sub-par. It was too thick/creamy & salty. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here. I don't know why I didn't write a review sooner as this has been my favorite seafood restaurant over the last 10 years. Their best item is the shrimp and crab fritter appetizer. It's quality over quantity but it come's with black bean salsa and a sauce that taste like southwestern salad dressing. My favorite the entree has always been the salmon. They've changed it over the years but it's always good. There's no mistaking the smokey flavor of the fish and the creole mustard sauce makes this dish unique. The fish tacos, salads and grilled chicken are all very good as well. As with all GAR restaurants, service is great. read more

Shopped at Tysons Corner for very first time on NYE day. Picked Coastal Flats to eat lunch as I was intrigued by the beach mural and gorgeous decorating in the restaurant. Chandeliers had glass fruit hanging down. Clever decorating. Back wall mural so detailed of the ocean. Waitress was over the top great. She heard me discussing the deviled eggs but I didn't get them. My friend opened her menu and there was part of a women's weave in the pages. Gross! (Thus the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) Friend ordered a shrimp meal and I ordered the most yummy, melt in your mouth fish ever. Waitress brought a pie to of candies bacon and 2 deviled eggs to try on her. Absolutely divine! After lunch coffee hit the spot as well too. I happened on this spectacular event by accident, but oh what a happy accident. This event was just another example of why I love this chain. One of my favorite places to eat when in Tyson's Corner Center. It's almost always packed in here. Similar to their other locations. The hosts are always friendly and patient. Cauliflower mash was the star of the afternoon, and I had to restrain myself from licking Kat's plate. Another Great American Restaurant letdown. Although I called 45 mins ahead for reservation, we waited almost an hr after checking in for our table - there was some misunderstanding on who was checked in/who was waiting - different hostesses gave us different answers. "10-15 min wait" to "5 more mins" to "still cleaning your table" to "accidentally giving away our table" - all happened while we sat literally right next to them. Although the hostess did eventually apologize while seating us, the initial incident already soured the entire dining experience. And it only got worse... We might as well had continued to wait by the door - We literally sat for almost 15 mins before we had a chance to locate our waitress to submit our orders. My stomach was cramming then because of how hungry I was. Even the complimentary bread took ages to be served. We were told and ensured that the bread was being "fried" and will be coming right up. Instead I saw baskets after baskets being brought out to nearby tables. Breadless and "Hangry", I was so ready to walk out. Then finally came our appetizer, fried calamari - I much prefer Carlyle's version - there was an overwhelming amount of sweet and sour sauce coating the fried calamari - so much that it lost all of its crispiness. Onto our main course: Fried shrimp roll, bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries- both were your standards - no complaints, nothing to write home about. Chicken, mango, spiced pecan salad - a refreshing, tasty combo - my mother liked it so much that she wishes to replicate it at home. Perfectly dressed, complementary flavors + textures - the best dish of the night. Fried fish fingers - again your standard - however the sides, fries (cold and soggy) and coleslaw (drenched in mayo) were inedible. Lobster roll with mashed cauliflowers and Mediterranean orzo salad - The roll had zero flavor. In addition, the bun was cold, the lobster meat was drenched in mayo. After two bites, I just couldn't continue - It was the worst lobster roll I'd had in any restaurants. As I turned to the two sides to fill my grumbling stomach , again it met nothing but disappointment - while the mashed cauliflower was overly salty, the orzo salad had no flavor - was I suppose to mix the two and eat together? Service - the bread didn't come until half way through our dinner and our waitress continued to MIA for most of our time there. Towards the end when our waitress came to clear our table and noticed that I didn't touch most of my food, I was surprised that she didn't inquire and only offered more water. Try to make reservations if you can because they fill up quickly during dinner hours. Coastal Flats is always a safe choice for us. 4 of us came here on a Wednesday afternoon for dinner (around 6-6:30ish). We didn't have reservations, but we were seated immediately. There weren't too busy, bud still had some people seated in the dining area. The bar had some people as well. The hosts were sweet, and our waiter was great! One of the people in my party is on a keto diet and he was able to help her with ordering and changing the entree to fit her needs. We were served bread--so yummy, especially the ozzie rolls. It goes perfectly with the butter. Their crab cakes are AMAZING!!! A definitely must-get! I'm not even a huge seafood fan, but I could eat these crab cakes all day. The fries were good! The grilled broccolini was too simple. It had lemon and a slightly smokey flavor in the tops from the grill, but could definitely use more grilled and more seasoning.
