One of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles! The menu is incredible, and I can never resist the tasting menu or the specials (RIP to my wallet every time). So delicious! I was a little hesitant about this place as the decor is so trendy and sometimes places like this don't match up food-wise. My review for this visit will be about the majority of their signature appetizers and beef proteins. We ordered the papaya salad, a more modern interpretation with mint leaves and sweetness more than the fish sauce spicy funk. It was crispy and refreshing. I prefer the more funky Thai version but nonetheless really good. The kanpachi was spectacular and I highly recommend everyone to get this. Such a unique flavor profile not found in new modern sashimi elsewhere in town. The dumplings tasted like homemade Chinese dumplings, honestly pretty heavy and split between two people might be too much. Would forgo this item as this flavor can be found elsewhere if you are just dining for two. The beef curry was decadent. Not too salty, and not too spicy. Their chili sauce was a great side. The squash curry mellowed all the spiciness out. I'd recommend maybe using a fattier beef as it was kinda lean. But that's just my personal preference. The beef short ribs were beautifully tender. I didn't really care for the side but the beef was such a star. Sweet, nicely salted, and sooo sooo tender. Great protein to go along with the nasi goreng. The fried rice with shrimp was such a nice binder for all our entrees. If I had to make a recommendation, would be to use a tad less sauce as there's a lot of other saucy dishes. First time here and I got to say it's such a great place in West LA for Southeast Asian fusion food. Service was very attentive and caring and the ambience is quite whimsical - reminiscent of some place I've been in Bali or other neighboring countries. The Kanpachi Crudo and Butter Chicken are sure bets and yet these still go beyond your expectations. Our out of the box dish, Korean rice cakes was a new menu item that was "waiter endorsed". Finally found an Indian Restaurant in LA that the food , service and ambiance measures up to the prices. . Food is killer , service is great. Not inexpensive ,however it's worth every penny. I made a 7PM reservation and when I got there, I was told by the girl up front that they were cleaning off my table now and I should be going in shortly. She had us wait 30 minutes, taking people that came after us (even a walk-in group). Anyway, we get seated half an hour after our reservation and get offered a free dish. I appreciated the gesture but honestly didn't care for the dish at all. It was underwhelming and actually seemed to be offered to almost every other table as well. While we were waiting for half an hour outside, we chose our menu items. However, when we started ordering at the table, we were told that they ran out of the butter chicken. So we opted for the devil chicken instead. The first dish we got was the Nasi Goreng, which is supposedly one of their most popular dishes. I've never had such salty food in my life. I don't normally drink water during my meal, only before and after. But my goodness, I could not stop drinking water. Even when I got home, I was so thirsty. If it wasn't so incredibly and insanely salty, it might've been an awesome dish. Is it always this way or do they just have horrible quality control? I'll never know. Second dish, that came out far too later than we would've hoped, was the beef short ribs. The texture of the meat was great and it fell right off the bone. However, it was lacking so much flavor! I was confused. The side salad was really yummy though - a lot of mint so be aware for those who despise mint. Last but not least, we received the Devil Chicken. The chicken was well grilled - not too dry and you can really taste the smokiness. I love spicy food and yes, this dish was pretty spicy, which I liked. But the spice really did overwhelm the overall dish and I feel like the flavors weren't well balanced. This dish was good to pair with the naan. Atmosphere was interesting too. Extremely dark I couldn't see my food or the people I was with. Insanely loud I was yelling at the people at my table who were sitting about an inch away from me. Interior design and decorations were amazing though. Overall, such a meh experience and will never recommend this place to anyone. And to top off this super subpar experience, the two employees at the front didn't say a word to us as we left the restaurant and walked right by them. My family and I went to Cobi's for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Everything was amazing and the service was fantastic. We ordered the chef's selection and the Classics for 5 people as suggested by our waiter. We were able to try practically everything on the menu. My favorites were the Ora King Salmon and the grilled prawns but overall everything was to die for. My son enjoyed curry puffs and the branzino the most and my husband's favorites were the short ribs and the kanpachi. For dessert, we had the Thai tea pudding and vanilla soft serve sundae served with a candle of course. We sat outside on the patio which felt very cozy. There were blankets available for when it got chilly. We were stuffed and happy after our meal. We walked over to the ocean to walk off some of our food. The food is delicious here!! I have come here twice, once with meat eaters and the other with a vegetarian/vegan crowd, and both times the dishes have blown me away. The dal was some of the best I've had, lemony with an amazing depth of flavor. The papaya salad was so fresh and also beats most papaya salads. Everything I've eaten here so far was good. I love a good fusion restaurant and after reading rave reviews about Cobi's, I decided to snag a reservation for this weekend. Unfortunately, I was duped. TLDR: Overhyped and underwhelming My reservation was for 5:15 pm and I was there on time and seated quickly. Our order was also taken fairly promptly and they brought out the appetiser shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, after that was where our bad experience began. We waited about 40 minutes and there was no sign of the rest of our food, so I finally flagged down a waiter and her was very apologetic. To their credit, they then hustled and brought out the food, but the rest of our meal was pretty disappointing. They also apparently didn't keep track of what they brought out, because they brought over a second serving of the Nasi Goreng and we had to let the server know we already received it. They did try to make it up with a complimentary dessert and apologised for the delay, which I appreciated. A review of each item we had: -- Curry Puffs: this was probably the best item I had. The puff was flaky and the stuffing was nicely seasoned. -- Nasi Goreng: the rice was cooked properly but there was way too much salt in this. -- Mister Dal with Roti & Jasmine Rice: I'm Indian so I know my Dal, but this was just terrible. I know each culture in South Asia makes it differently but this was a travesty. Way too much salt yet again, and a ton of turmeric and curry leaves. The roti and rice were fine. -- Vanilla Soft Serve Sundae: this was on the house because we waited too long for our meal. It was fine, but the brownies that were added were clearly not fresh. Looks like they just tossed a few from a package. Another thing that bothered me was a dripping air conditioner behind my table. The decor was all beautiful, but the overhead AC kept leaking and the poor couple behind me had to scoot the table so it wouldn't drip on their table. Normally when one lives directly next door to a popular restaurant, you wait a few months to see how things shake out, menu and staff changes, etc. Having just retired from a 40 plus year career in the food service business, I've learned to allow people to gain their footing, while they transform their dream into their guest's dreams. Cobis has done the seemingly impossible in a short amount of time. Not only have they transformed the decor into work of art unto itself, the food keeps getting better and better!!! My wife and I have had take-out no less than 20 times, but what truly makes a special evening is when we go in person and introduce our friends to Cobis! Just recently we brought another couple in, one of whom loves spicy hot; the kind of heat that makes my ears ring! We ordered about half the menu; divided into 5 courses. Something for everyone! Having dined in a few times, the staff are well acquainted with our tastes, but also know our willingness to try new things. I for one, was blown away at the clean, bright perfection of flavors! Dishes we had grown to love brought us to a state of culinary nirvana, new tastes became instant favorites, for us and our friends!!! We started dinner with the Raw Bar: Dry Aged Kanpachi Finger lime, green chili, coconut dressing & Bluefin Tuna Citrus dressing, chives, prawn crisps Plus two orders of Grilled Prawns with ginger & yellow bean sauce and an order of Pork & Shiitake Dumplings! We also included two orders of Roti (which if you haven't tried it, Is reminiscent of Yemen Malawakh), all to soak up the sauces!!! My wife licked one dish clean, something I too have been guilty of. Our next course was two orders of Curry Puffs, which are a mouth-watering combination of A Samosa and a Doughnut; perhaps not the correct description, but they are savory rich umami flavors, hot Curried split peas & potatoes, stuffed in fried puffs with pickled onions and Tamarind Ketchup!! For our Entrees, we all split, Incredible Caramelized Shortribs, Devil Chicken Curry with Mustard seeds, habanero chili vinegar (for our friend who like her mouth on fire), Green Papaya Salad, Jasmine Rice, another two courses of Roti, Gai Yang Chicken with Lemongrass marinade, and for Desert - Homemade Soft Serve Ice Cream with Salted Caramel Milo brownies and Thai Tea Pudding with Boba! Oh how I hoped to love this place. Overall, this place is extremely hyped up. I was excited to try out a unique fusion spot, but Cobi's failed to deliver. You need to make a reservation through resy, as you will probably not be able to get a seat if you just walk in (which I've tried and failed). I was able to get a reservation for 7 PM on a Friday night, but arrived a little early. They were still able to seat us, but they were definitely packed. The service was great. The waiters are super attentive and people are constantly getting your empty dishes. If you sit outside, there's a lot of foot traffic since there's a back kitchen or something. As for the food, it was pretty disappointing. We ordered four different items, which came out to a total of $65. - Curry Puffs: these came with two pieces, which was pretty disappointing considering it's $14. The flavors were great, but I found it a little doughy. I felt like some spice would've really elevated the dish! Maybe a spicy sauce. I didn't really care for the tamarind ketchup that it was served with. - Nasi Goreng: I feel like this is for people that have never tried nasi goreng before. It didn't have the classic dark soy color that is usually accompanied in a dish like this. It really just felt like a regular fried rice with crispy shallots on top and an overly fried egg. We also opted to add the shrimp as a protein, which costed an extra $6. That extra $6 came with about 8 pieces of unseasoned shrimp. - Butter Chicken: this was just your standard butter chicken. There was a decent amount of chicken in there, but what bothered me the most is that the dish isn't accompanied with rice or roti. You need to order that on the side. The dish itself is already $18 and rice is an extra $3 while roti is $4.5. - Roti (not pictured): this was super buttery and flakey, perfect to dip into your curry of choice. I was excited to go to this restaurant, the pink building alone is meant to be seen. Inside, the restaurant is designed for Instagramming. Dining in your grandmother's sitting room is cute for a while but the chipped plates and poor presentation don't keep pace with the pricing. The food was subpar with thick Kanpachi, the toughest broccolini I've ever tried to eat (uneatable) and too salty grilled chicken. I was optimistic about desserts but once again grandma's dish wear made an appearance with flawed presentations and mismashed textural and flavor pairings. We felt like providing a Gordon Ramsey style review. The heavy drapes and lack of airflow created a stuffy environment. Can be a bit noisy, but the decor is nice and it's kind of homely and welcoming. It's been a long time since I've experienced such amazing food within the same month. 2022 has certainly been kind to my taste buds. Cobi's was originally a popup that offered curries from all over the world, including a simply irresistible African peanut curry (sadly not on the menu here). I was hoping that it would garner enough attention and success to provide Cobi Marsh and Lance Mueller a chance to open up their own establishment. Cobi had spent a lot of time in Indonesia in her formative years, and so she fell in love with some of the world's best curry and sambal (chili pastes). You can really taste the passion and love in the food, which is handled by Lance and his team, as they bring classic Southeast Asian flavors and present them in an elevated way that is sure to please fans of both more "traditional" palettes and Angelinos who are looking for strong, unique, culinary experiences. However, this does come at a cost - it's not cheap to dine here. You WILL be paying more money than you're used to for these types of dishes. But hey, it'll be worth it. Curry Puffs (curried split peas, potatoes, with a side of pickled onion and tamarind ketchup) - Very similar to samosas or perhaps akin to an empanada, but just full to the brim in terms of flavor. I do miss having the meat options from back in Cobi's days as a pop-up, but don't be fooled by the simple ingredients... you won't miss the meat and it's vegan-friendly! The pickled onions provide a perfect contrast to give you a little reprieve after each bite, sort of like ginger when you eat sushi. The tamarind ketchup is a glorious complement, adding a bit of sweetness that'll make each bite send your taste buds into a tour across all flavors. Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice, with egg, sambal terasi, long beans, and in our case, shrimp) - Oh. My. God. I've had a lot of fried rice in my life. I've even had my fair share of Nasi Goreng in my life. But this... this was something else. I can't even begin to explain the explosion of flavors. I will say that eating this makes me smile uncontrollably and gives me "Ratatouille" moments - y'all know what I'm talking about, right? Intense, nearly overwhelming amounts of umami flavor along with a beautiful kick of spice from the sambal. The crunch of the long beans perfectly melding in with the rice that is somehow perfectly balanced between pillowy soft and nearly al-dente. A wonderful texture to accompany the richest of flavors. The shrimp itself was cooked well, but honestly wasn't anything to write home about. I'll try the pork belly next time, as I think it'll probably complement the rice better, but I think I'd also be happy eating it with no additional proteins. Beef Rendang (chili sambal, crispy shallot, gulai, squash) - We opted for a side of roti, which was perfectly and freshly made. Tiny bit of char, pillowy soft and absorbent in the middle. Honestly, I forgot to take photos of this because we were so eager to dive in after enjoying the masterpiece that was the Nasi Goreng. While that rice dish was certainly my favorite, the beef rendang was not far behind. The beef was tender and it soaked up the gulai ( sorta like a curry dipping sauce) like Shamwow. Slapping some sambal onto that and putting on your roti is like a match made in heaven. The crazy part is that the beef would've been delicious without the gulai and sambal. And the roti would have been delicious with just the gulai or sambal. So you end up with a dish that begs you to experiment and play and discover that inner joy of tasting delicious food. Try a bite with each individual element of the dish and then try it all together. You'll thank me later! Anyway, Cobi's is the greatest culinary arrival to the Westside in a LONG time and I'm glad that it has found so much success thus far. I'm looking forward to coming back to try more dishes, including the enticing Thai Tea Pudding with boba, black sugar, and lemongrass. I'll update my review once I get my hands on that! read more

We appreciate the food. It was very good and something you cannot easily get. We had ordered the peanut curry which was so unique. Note, I did get a mouthful of undissolved peanut butter which was unfortunate. The ambiance, however was not great. We sat in the main room, where it was so loud, we were yelling across the table. We could barely hear the waitress, and ended up with bottled water which was charged. There are too many tables stuffed in the room causing everyone else to yell. The decor was nice. But there was 1 chair where the padding was so worn down, it felt like you were sitting on a piece of cloth, stretched across two wooden planks of the chair frame. read more
