My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary and was not pleased with the service. It took a while for us to get seated with our reservation (10 mins without acknowledgment). We thought it was due to them being busy on a Saturday, however we were wrong. They were just moving really slowly. Our cocktails were not great and it took 15 mins to make it to our table. Our waitress was nice but hardly ever checked in. The restaurant was really loud and filled with large parties that they could not handle. I'd only recommend if you were just casually dining and could care less about the wait times. If these things matter, then this is not the place for you. read more

Four stars for a fairly good Mexican restaurant in Winter Park. I had been here once before to celebrate my engagement about 4 years ago and I don't think this place has changed much... and it's a good thing! I had the queso fundido as an app, which was pretty delicious. They also bring chips and salsa to the table, but the salsa is out of control spicy !! I can't enjoy my food if I can't feel my tongue . Lol! The blackened Mahi tacos were OK. Nothing special, but edible. A drink I did love was El Diablo, a frozen margarita and sangria swirl with a floater... One drink and you'll be stumbling out of there! All in all, it's worth the money, they accommodate large parties, and I would give it another chance! read more

Have taken many different people here and everyone has always loved the food. They have very yummy and fresh Mexican food and great drinks. The atmosphere is great as it is in winter park so you can take a walk down park ave after. The service is pretty fast not always the friendliest but they know the menu well. read more

I went to Cocina 214 recently for dinner after an event on Park Avenue. I love tex-mex and was looking forward to trying this place out. We seem to have shown up on November 5th which was a "6 months to Cinco de Mayo" party. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but our waiter's tune seemed to change a bit when he realized we were just ordering dinner and not drinks. I ordered the Enchiladas de Pollo (chicken * onions * cheese * sour cream sauce) and it was good, but not amazing. I've had chicken enchiladas other places and enjoyed them more (and they were cheaper). I really enjoyed the company and the low-key ambiance of the restaurant, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat there again. read more

I frequent this restaurant a lot due to their delicious diablos. Unfortunately, today I had the worst service I have ever experienced from here. The waitress rushed my group out and was clearing our plates before we even finished eating. My friend still had her quesadilla in her hand when her plate was cleared. The waitress was extremely rude during our visit and was very unkind to our group. We were there all of 45 minutes for a 10 person group, and was treated as an inconvenience. The waitress also was upset one of our group members was only ordering drinks and not food. Very disappointing from one of my favorite restaurants to go to. read more

Aside from some menu changes we love Cocina, great happy hour and our go to bar spot on many nights for a delicious swirl margarita and their trio with chips before dinner. During this time of Covid mess we ordered to go, which if y'all didn't know, you can " to go " order their margaritas- with the exception of the swirl- with your pick up order! Maybe lunch isn't their specialty. We headed here for a work lunch and I was excited to try it out because I love finding new Mexican joints. There was almost nobody inside at 12pm and Park Ave. was hopping with minimal parking, so this was foreshadowing for our meal. We started with chips and salsa and added some queso fundido with chorizo. This was probably the highlight of the meal. The chorizo queso comes in a skillet and their recipe is pretty thick and sticks to the cast iron skillet. They also provide some fresh flour tortillas for traditional use of plopping the fundido chorizo on the tortilla. I used one tortilla and used the chips for the rest. I ordered the brisket burrito and it comes with melted cheese on the outside, rice inside and some refried beans on the plate. The pic says a lot. The cheese was minimal. I'm pretty sure someone with a dairy allergy would have still been safe with my burrito. The beef wasn't bad, but wasn't anything great and there was more rice (filler) in my burrito than anything else. I wasn't impressed. Our service seemed a little off as well. One of our guests ordered chicken flautas and received what was clearly beef/brisket flautas. We brought it up to our server and instead of looking at the dish itself she pulled out the ticket and let us know it was most definitely chicken as that was on the order originally. If that was chicken then there must be a pasture somewhere with some cattle with wings and feathers and somebody calling it chicken. I was pretty surprised by the server's reaction, but we laughed about it and decide the service seemed to be matching the food on this day. They do offer an extensive drink menu and it might be after their bucket o' margarita it all tastes great, but that was not our experience. The food quality, service, price and atmosphere are all going to meet or exceed expectations. 4 stars - This is for a place that is good, I would drive a little out of the way to go, and the food and service is good, but maybe not amazing. Also for me, this could also be a great place that serves Pepsi products - automatic 1 star loss - bad management decision. 3 stars - This is for a place that I view as standard. Nothing special, nothing lousy, not a place you'd avoid like the plague, but a place that is not one you really look forward to either. 2 stars - This is for a place that had something go wrong or something perpetually wrong. The food and or service is likely consistently suspect here (they probably serve Pepsi too). 1 star - I can't see wasting time writing a review on a place that gets a 1 star. Have eaten here twice and this week remembered to review it. Ha! Ate here Monday for lunch with 4 girlfriends. 2 people got the enchilada 3 ways, 2 got quesdillas and one got soft tacos with Mexican rice and black beans as extras. The enchiladas were one cheese, one chicken and one brisket. Love their brisket. These enchiladas are on the small side. My three quesadillas were small but thick and I was comfortably full but I dont eat a lot . Everyone said their food was great. Cocina 214 is a great option for Mexican food in Winter Park! I've come here for happy hour and they have great drink specials and delicious food. We got the brisket quesadillas and beef tacos. The brisket quesadillas were SO good! They come with pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. Yum. They give you chips and salsa as soon as you're seated and the salsa is very tasty and has a little bit of spice to it. They have a huge menu so there are a lot of options to choose from and still so many items I have left to try! The beef tacos were also really good and they came with rice and beans (always my favorite). The food is fresh and the service is great. The staff is really friendly and helpful. They have a nice bar area with some tables and then there's also a more formal dining room area. read more

I had a mixed experience here. We had a group of 16 for a friend's birthday. There was only one server assigned to our table and he seemed to be handling other tables as well. Service was slow all around and water glasses often sat empty. A few people, including the birthday girl, ordered fajitas. One of the orders was just plain wrong when it came out and had to be redone. For the others with fajitas, it took at least 5 minutes after delivering the initial fajita platter until they got their tortillas and condiments. My boyfriend got a brisket quesadilla which was good but rather plain in my opinion. For $14 it didn't even come with a side of rice or anything. I took a chance and ordered the corn-crusted mahi for $26. It was quite good and a large enough portion that I was able to save half for lunch the next day. I was expecting something like a cornmeal crust, but it actually had little kernels of corn pressed into the fish. I was a little disappointed because the menu description said it came with spinach and mushrooms, both of which I really enjoy. There was one solitary mushroom slice on my plate. The majority of the veggies were carrots and zucchini, which tasted fine but weren't what I expected. Overall I liked my entree but not enough that I'm dying to go back. I think our server realized we weren't having a good experience because he didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and he didn't put an automatic gratuity on our checks. Cocina 214 is a 5 star rated restaurant. The food was delicious and tasty. My wife and I had the Maria's tamales with refried beans and rice. We had ordered the Chips and 3 sauces for an appetizer. The 3 sauces were guacamole, white melted cheese and salsa. My wife order the freshly made flour tortillas with the side of butter. The ambiance and the location of this restaurant was excellent. It wasn't crowded when we arrived around 3:30pm. We had young man who waited on us. He welcomed us and ask for our drinks. We ordered the appetizer. The chips were warm and crunchy and tasty. The chips arrived in a small bowl, but we ran out of chips and the waiter didn't check on us if we needed anything. We received the flour tortillas and no butter. The food arrives and he left our table. We didn't see him for the rest of our visit. We had to ask another waiter for to go boxes and our check. We could see our waiter working at the bar. He never came by once to check on our table. We paid our meal in cash and we walked out disappointed. Made our way here during solar eclipse today! What sparked our interest was the special solar eclipse cocktail for the day. We arrived around 1 pm and were quickly seated. There were others there but by no means was it packed. They have a separate bar area, different than the dining area, and a decent size outside patio with tables. We opted for the outside (which is completely shaded by the way!) Our server was nice, quickly took our order. Cocina is fairly priced but not cheap. I choose their snapper tacos, which comes with three loaded tacos, and a side of rice and beans. Total was $18. The snapper was delicious, perfectly breaded and cooked. I was very happy with my choice. Back to the drink: margarita with a Grand Marnier floater and a separate shot of black sangria to make the eclipse effect. It was tasty and strong- no skimping on the alcohol. I have eaten at Cocina once before when it first opened. Dont recall the meal then, but this meal was definitely tasty enough that I would come back at some point. My main negative is the cost, but you pay to eat on Winter Park. read more

My husband and I really were excited about this place. The food and drink are average to below average at best. He got some of the worst, unseasoned chicken tacos we've ever tasted. Essentially boiled chicken, white rice, unseasoned corn and a little bit of cheese. The only part that make it edible was the green sauce they served on the side with it. The Mexican corn was tasteless. Guacamole was fresh but also on the bland side. Super disappointed as this would have been one of our regular spots had the food been remotely tasty. Team lunch at Cocina 214 had good service that was attentive and provided tasty food to our group! My team and I came to Cocina to celebrate our accomplishments and to eat some great food. All around, our group was impressed. We all mostly had the fajitas which had a good amount of food with it. I had the steak and shrimp fajita which was well portioned! The server was able to swap out my flour tortillas for corn ones! For appetizers we had the queso and guac. I felt both appetizers were basic. The queso was very thick and the guac had little flavor to it besides avocado. No worries though as it paired very well with their salsa which we all raved about. Yumm! Came in for a late lunch on a Sunday. Our bartender was new at this location, but he was nice, even on a super busy Sunday. We started with the Queso and added Chorizo to it. So good! I had the Don Carlos Fish tacos, and they were the best fish tacos I have ever had! The mahi-mahi got to be the star of the show, and the light blackening was delicious. The slaw on the tacos was simple and not overwhelming but crisp. I really loved that they chopped the fish into little cubes while cooking it, but didn't dry it out. My companion had the breakfast tacos with chorizo and they were also amazing. This is kind of a fancy place, so it would be fun for a date night or a fun dinner with friends. It's casual but upscale at the same time without feeling pretentious. I will definitely add this place to my list of Floridian haunts. If you haven't been, GO! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 3 for a quick lunch and drinks and we weren't disappointed. The service was quick and the food was good. I had the cheese and mushroom quesadilla (half size) which was the perfect amount. I would have liked if the mushrooms inside the quesadilla were sautéed to add more flavor but no complaints. Their rice is absolutely delicious 10/10 I recommend. I had the swirl and it was definitely delicious but it was a bit too strong for my liking. Their patio is perfect to sit out on a beautiful day. Five stars for an upscale and lushly decorated restaurant with some of the best cocktails in Orlando (or Winter Park), some good food options, and a great location. My husband and I came here on a Friday evening and sat outside on the patio with our dog. The patio area has tons of plants and is beautifully decorated. It was very relaxing and had a resort feel. The restaurant is on a side street right off of Park avenue and the street was very quiet. Our server was very helpful and polite. She made several excellent suggestions and was very nice to our dog. For example, I told her that I liked strong drinks. She recommended the Park Avenue Lux. It's a cocktail made with tequila and candied orange sugar. It was exceptional! Absolutely delicious and delightfully potent. She also helped my husband with his meal selection (the burger, which he loved). In addition to my drink, I also got the chicken fajitas. These were just okay. The vegetables were onions and bell peppers (mostly onions) and the chicken wasn't anything special. However, the tortillas were house-made and delicious. They also make their guacamole fresh and subbed in avocado slices for me when I asked. It also came with rice and beans, which were both good. Additionally, the free chips were just average, but the salsa was surprisingly tasty. It was spicy and well seasoned. Next time, I'll get the Mexican street corn (my husband got the side dish version and it was awesome) and something besides the fajitas. Definitely something with their delicious tortillas. I feel like you just need to order strategically here to get the best experience, and you should absoultely order a cocktail. 4 stars for a solid Mexican food location off near Park Avenue for those who aren't looking for the most authentic Mexican food spots. I know one of the hip trends for restaurants right now is to be as "authentic" as possible. There are supposed to be some very authentic Mexican restaurants coming to Orlando in the coming months for which many people are excited. However, for me, I just want a place that serves me tasty food in a nice atmosphere. Cocina 214 satisfies both of those requirements very well. We went to Cocina 214 the other night with our dog because a few items on their menu looked appealing and we wanted to eat at a dog-friendly Mexican place. While parking isn't easy to find around the area, we were able to park fairly quickly and grabbed a table out on their patio. The outside and inside patio are both beautifully decorated, and the shrubbery and music make the place feel like a scene right out of a movie. The server and 2 other people came over to greet us, wipe down what already seemed like a pretty clean table, and give us our water and chips/salsa. The person who gave water came back repeatedly through the night solely to refill water, which was a nice touch. My wife then ordered a margarita (which apparently was amazing) and I ordered a Diet Dr. Pepper. The waitress actually brought out Dr. Pepper at first, but she recognized her error and went back inside to replace it, which is something I very much appreciated. After sipping on our drinks for a minute, we went ahead and placed our orders. My wife got the chicken fajitas while I got the Maria's Gourmet Burger I saw on the menu online before coming. It was a burger with grilled pineapple and some other toppings that also came with some Mexican street corn. Once it arrived, I took a bite and discovered that it tasted as good as it sounds! The Mexican Street Corn was great (and usually $9 on its own, so a steal to go with a $16 meal) and the burger and soda were heavenly. While not the most authentic Mexican meal, it is hard to argue with delicious. Overall, Cocina 214 is a solid Mexican restaurant that provides tasty food in a beautiful area. While it won't win any awards for most authentic Mexican restaurant any time soon, it will definitely be getting more of my business. read more

Tex-Mex upscale style on Park Ave, beautiful addition! This location is gorgeous. It's deceiving when you enter through the bar because you think it's a small location and then you walk to the main entrance and bam, huge dining area with open kitchen and a gorgeous outdoor patio. I can't wait to dine in the dining area. Last night I attended an opening party (the official opening is Cinco de Mayo) and we spent most of our time in the roomy bar area. The bar has a lounge feel but with an upscale ambiance. I love the small exposed brick throughout the place. They also have two large TVs behind the bar which makes for a nice place to relax. The margarita on the rocks was nothing to stand out above others I have had but it was refreshing. You could tell they used real lime and no sour mix but it almost tastes like lemonade which was good because it was light. The chips and salsa were good, the basic salsa was a tad spicy for me but it did not deter me from eating an entire basket. The three other dips consisted of a cilantro mix that was great when paired with the regular salsa, a mango spicy type dip and some hot dip that I did not try. We tasted the fish tacos which were ok, I wasn't a huge fan. They tasted too fishy to me but I am a beginner to fish so I am not sure I am the best judge. The chicken and steak quesadillas were delicious. We ended with a chicken enchilada which I think may have been my favorite. It was covered in melted cheeses and the chicken had great flavor. The pico that came with the dishes was so fresh and delicious, I used that as my salsa and filler, yum! Overall, great first experience and I can't wait to try for lunch or dinner. I think this is a fab addition to the already great Park Ave. I suggest you go check it out for yourself! read more

Good Not Great The build out on this place is awesome with a fantastic patio, with a view of a side street and a parking garage. Ok so the view is not spectacular but the restaurant is. We sat outside and were there for the "soft opening", with a Cinco de Mayo Grand opening. I find this to be ambitious for such a large restaurant. We tried the Truffle and Mushroom quesadillas as well as the salsa sampler, and guacamole. All were good but not great. The winner among our group was the pineapple habanero salsa, which was not spicy nor strong with habanero. It completely lacked any heat. Queso Fundido was good not great. I tried the Mexican Hot Margarita which was spicy, but lacked any sweetness to the point of being bitter. I asked for a shot of cointreau, which the waiter willingly obliged. The truffle and mushroom quesadilla had a strong mushroom flavor but was three ingredients. No additional spices. I did not try anything else because of timing (an extended soft menu was not available until 4:30 and that availability was unclear, but the only thing on the menu that intrigued me was the Duck Tacos. I give it three stars because of the soft opening otherwise it might be less because of the prices. It's worth the atmosphere however the food did not excite me nor did the cocktails. There was definitely no "wow" factor. IMHO, Tex Mex at it's best is not meant for upscale dining. When you venture there as a restaurant, you cannot simply give average to above average food and charge more for it. read more
