I needed a late-night dinner and decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was super nice, gave me a bunch of recommendations, and helped me figure out a good drink to order. I ended up ordering the Wildberry Mule and requested it to be less sweet. The bartender recommended the boom boom sauce on any of the entrées, so I chose the Boom Boom Chicken Enchilada. They also brought out chips and salsa, along with a creamy jalapeño dip. The salsa was fresh and delicious, and the chips were warm, which I really liked. It was the perfect amount of food, and I really enjoyed it. The boom boom sauce was pretty spicy, but really good. I visited here mid afternoon on a Saturday was and seated right away in the bar area. It took us a while for our server to make their way to our table and take our order even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. I had my thoughts on the frozen raspberry margarita that I had the time before that was so delicious but unfortunately they did not have that flavor this time. I got the strawberry and lime frozen margaritas swirled together with a sugar rim. The margarita was pretty good. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. For an entree, I ordered the chicken flautas. This comes with rice and refried beans. When served, the entree came with 6 flautas which to me seemed like a decent portion. I was very disappointed though because there was barely any meat inside each one and I swear there was no cheese. Which cheese makes the dish. They were extremely dry and I only ate like 2. Founded by Mike Young and John Zapp, the original Chuy's opened up in 1982 in an abandoned barbecue restaurant in Austin, Texas. Now they are 100 restaurants over 19 states. Although a little different in decor, every Chuy's has the hand painted swimming fish, the hubcap ceiling, and the shrine to Elvis which was a fixture of the original store. I had a great first Chuy's experience with my girlfriend Holly in Pembroke Pines. On a recent trip to visit my daughter in Winter Park we passed Chuy's in Lakeside Crossing and remembering how much I liked it, I suggested we dine here for dinner. In addition to the multiple dining rooms, they also have outside patio seating. We were seated in my favorite room, the dog one. If you bring in a picture of your pup you can get a free appetizer so the walls are covered with pictures of people's dogs. This room also worked out best for us because it had two TV's and we could watch the Super Bowl. We started off with their complimentary chips that come with a spicy salsa fresca and a Chuy's signature item, creamy jalapeño dressing. It started out as a dressing and it is now a dip with a following. You can even purchase it to take home with you. Two dips can never be enough so we also ordered the queso that is a beloved menu item for good reason. The menu has a number of Tex-Mex favorites like burritos, tacos, and fajitas. Chuy's is especially known for their large portions. They also make all of their own tortillas and sauces. You can customize how spicy you want your food by pepper choice and sauce. I ordered my favorite steak burrito with double rice, no beans. I replaced the spicy hatch chili sauce with the creamy deluxe tomatillo recommended by our server. It was chef's kiss. My daughter and her boyfriend said they really liked their food too and with the large portion size, ended up having leftovers to take home with them. I love the quirky decor, value, and tasty food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool, and I love the eclectic decor. I pretty much always order the Guacamole Soft Tacos, and those fresh made tortillas are so yummy. The beans are also a favorite of mine. I have noticed the past few times I have visited my tacos come to the table already soggy on the bottom which isn't ideal. I used to frequent Chuy's a lot back in my college days due to their "Big As Yo Face" Burritos being perfect for a college athlete's appetite and budget. Now as a real adult, I've decided to come back and try a few other menu items! First of all, I love that there are pictures of dogs all over the walls of the restaurant! Also, our server Marley was fantastic. She checked up on us just the right amount of time and also gave some great suggestions. Now for the food reviews. Complimentary chips, salsa and creamy green chile sauce were brought to our table. I could bathe in that creamy green chile sauce... yes it's really THAT good. My boyfriend got the Tex-Mex burrito bowl which he said was pretty average. The presentation of it was really pretty though. I got the King's Memorial Combo. They supposedly are known for their salsas...but we had to make a special request to try them. When they arrived, they were not good at all. We had a lot of questions about the sauces since we are both a bit sensitive to certain ingredients, and the server kindly offered to bring us a taste of each one. Game on! Their chips are light and crispy - we loved those. We ordered our soups and a platter that included many different things (to share). The soups were ok - they were just chicken soup with some crisp tortilla strips. The flautas were good, the taco was good, but I didn't love the rice, beans, or the enchiladas. Their food is surprisingly good for being a chain! I usually opt for a platter because it comes with a lot of food and I like having leftovers take home. Chuy's is so underrated! I'm a longtime customer of their food going back to when they first opened. I've eaten their close to 50 times since then and I'm just now getting around to leaving a review and I don't know why I waited so long. I love their chips! Super crispy and light. They bring out their tomato salsa and creamy jalepeno which is spicy but I love it! We always get their queso dip too which is absolutely delicious. I typically get the steak burrito or the chicken burrito which have the best flavor of any Tex Mex restaurant I've eaten at. Their salads are really good too. Also their rice and refried beans are the best I've ever had. Big portions too. I always leave full and feel like I've eaten too much but typically leave with a bag of leftovers which I eat later in the week so it's a good value for the money. I want to mention that all of their food is served on extremely hot plates which is great because the food is always served warm and fresh unlike so many other Mexican restaurants. Last but not least, we typically encounter a great experience as far as the wait staff goes. Most of the staff has been there for years so they know how to be efficient and handle your needs quickly as the meal goes on. Not my first time here and have to say I order the panchos every time. Basically bigger nacho with cheese,beans, chicken and pico on top. Never fails, it's super filling and great to share. This time around we wanted a little something so we got the queso, now not that it was bad but it's definitely not worth almost $10. It's a more on the liquid side than thick kind of queso. Just don't see why it would be that much for what you're getting. I could've basically gotten another meal instead of that. So for sure won't be ordering that in the future. Seems like the times I've gone it's been pretty quick seating. It's busy but not to the point where they have you waiting 10-15 mins. So for the most part pretty quiet. We were in Orlando visiting close family friends when we decided to step out for lunch! Anita who originally is from Texas suggested we should try out Chuy's and it's Tex-American cuisine! Coincidentally my son had also mentioned this place as it has a location in South Florida too! On arriving we were seated immediately and our server Kellee was very helpful and made us feel at ease right away. The restaurant was clean, bright and warm. The wifey ordered the cheese enchilada and steak taco combo and I ordered the combination chicken enchilada made with two different sauces. Both our meals were excellent and we really enjoyed our lunch! The complementary nachos were also a very nice touch. This means it was prepared and sitting in a refrigerator, then heated up in an oven or worse, microwaved. The food , all of it, was tasteless. No zest or flavor whatsoever. Sadly, most Tex-Mex restaurants in Orlando, that I've been too ,mimic the same protocol, previously prepared, heated-up, overpriced attempts at true , Tex-Mex cuisine. Because we couldn't find a parking spot at Trader Joe's we parked in the garage behind Chudy's. Since it was almost lunch time and we like Mexican food we stopped in. My wife is originally from Arizona and grew up on really good southwest cooking many years ago. She has never found a good red chile sauce for enchiladas as good as she had then - until we tried Chuy's. It was a thick, creamy, rich sauce.and was the best! So, our food was outstanding and we had friendly efficient service, too. The generous portion meant we have some delicious leftovers, along with extra sauce the really nice server gave us. The food pricing is surprisingly affordable, comparable to fast-casual options like Tijuana Flats or Chipotle. However, Chuy's offers a full-service dining experience with generous portions. My son's kid's meal was a typical chicken finger item, while my wife's Comida Deluxe was massive, and my Elvis Presley Memorial Combo was equally impressive. We both had leftovers for days! While the food is tasty, there's not a lot of variety beyond the different proteins (ground beef, shredded chicken, fajita steak or chicken) and sauces. Most dishes are essentially variations on a theme: a baked dish with one of the four proteins covered in a sauce...it's honestly a little homogenous. Despite this, Chuy's is a great value for the quality and quantity of food. The festive and unique decor adds to the experience, although it might be a bit too gimmicky for me. I can't believe I had never been to Chuy's before. This place is amazing! Just the chips with creamy jalapeño and salsa are worth the trip. I also got the taco salad with fajita beef and I couldn't believe the quality and quantity for just $12. We come here pretty frequently and love Chuy's! Luckily there's ample parking in the lot and garage next door. There's outdoor seating that allows us to bring our dog. And overall, the food and drinks are really tasty (I could eat the chips and creamy jalapeño dip all day)! About a week ago, I got off work late but was really craving Chuy's. It was already around 7:30 pm at that point, and the restaurant closed at 9 pm. We decided to go and try to make it a quick in and out if possible (I used to work in a restaurant and so I know how it is to deal with customers coming in super last minute, so we tried to be conscious of that). The enchiladas used masa harina (wheat flour) tortillas. The chips are almost thin, and they're very salty. This might sell liquor, but doesn't please the palate. I might have tried the $9 guacamole, but the chips are awful and wouldn't make good dippers. The wait staff is very polite. The overall impression of the rest is: Meh.
