    Mango Tango w/ green tea
    Eliko S.

After a great walk at Shelter Island, we were in need of some hydration and refreshment, and after driving by CoCo Playa tons of times and not stopping, I knew that today was the day. We went through the drive-thru and were helped by a very nice employee who gave some recommendations on the drinks, and with her guidance we went for a fizzy Peachy Keen and a Green Tea Mango Tango. The nice employee at the window had our drinks ready when we got there, and she handed them to us with a bright smile and cute, colorful straws. Both drinks were absolutely delicious and they hit the spot. At under $10 for both, they were not a bad deal either. I'll definitely swing by again in the future to try some of the coffee drinks and other refreshers! Peace!

Like others I've always passed by here but never stopped by. I assumed it was a restaurant. Yelp helped me figure out this was a coffee shop. I popped by at opening. Staff was friendly. I ordered an iced La Jolla, a chocolate chip cookie, a cookies and cream cookie, and a waffle breakfast sandwich. The drink was spot on. The sandwich was different and new. I have yet to eat the cookies but they look tasty.

I came here on a weekday night to pick up some cookies and a soda from a voucher I had. The cookies were okay, I prefer softer cookies but their cookies were pretty solid so not sure if it would be great for littles. For the price I don't think these are worth it but the workers were so nice!

I am so happy San Diego finally has a fun soda place! I love the fact that they have a drive through so it's really fast and easy to get your drinks. They have a big selection of different drinks you can get, from coffee, tea, sodas etc. I went for a dirty soda and was really good! I want to come back to try different kinds. I ordered a large and it was HUGE!!!! I didn't get to try the cookies this time, I thought it was a little pricey, but maybe next time

Easily, THE BEST chocalate chip cookie in San Diego! It was THICK, CHEWY AND SOFT. I loved it! There is a drive-thru and a walk-up window. This joint has a local, casual, retro vibe which I loved. There are tables on site if you decide to eat there. The set up looks more like a car wash but really good quality cookies. I would love to try their drinks next time.

This little shop is so cute. Came here before heading to the dog beach in OB and the refreshers were delicious! We ordered the peachy keen and sugar free strawberry puree with redbull. Service was awesome and the staff was great. I recommend this spot if you're looking for something fresh! They also have coffee and matcha but we just didn't get one!

Ordered a large Beach Please (Dr. Pepper, vanilla and cherry) with Diet Dr. Pepper. Walk-up window was a bit confusing but service was VERY fast. Price was about $6 after tax for a large. There is outdoor seating & some parking. Our drink was okay. I probably wouldn't come here again, nothing special.

I absolutely love this place. The drive-through is always very quick and it's even faster if you walk up to the counter. It is such a hidden gem! I stopped by for the first time after having driven by multiple times over the past couple of years, and can't believe that this was my first time. The cookies were absolutely insane, I got the blue cookie with Chocolate chip cookies crumbled in it and Oreo cookies crumbled in it. I also especially love their dirty sodas! The staff is extremely nice, answers questions very well, and helps walk you through their pretty complicated menu!

Drove by today to get my bday drink from Coco Playa. Ended up having a fun conversation with Haley about Love Island (they had some Love Island inspired tip cups that were very funny). Not only was Haley a pleasure to just talk to, she also made me feel very special and wrote a nice message on my lid. Thank you for adding a highlight to my bday!

I've been wanting to try this place for so long and am so glad we finally got to stop by! It's drive thru only so there's no hassle of needing to get out of your car anymore to order; however, you can opt to place your order online and pick up your goodies from their window in front too. Some things to keep in mind from what we've discovered: (1) they don't have any decaf options if you're getting coffee, so make sure you're ready to get caffeinated when you come here; (2) their sizes for iced coffee are gigantic--a large drink is 32oz! What we tried: Orange Blossom Mocha (from spring menu) - 3.5/5 Strawberry Sweetheart Matcha (from secret menu) - 3/5 Turtle Bay - 4/5 One & Only - 4/5 Overall, I enjoyed their cold brew options way more than the other two we got. We chose to have them neat rather than nitro, and I loved how bold that coffee flavor was on both drinks. They weren't too sweet either! The Orange Blossom Mocha was more heavily on the mocha side, which was fine, but I think I was expecting more of the orange flavor infused into the drink rather than just being on the soft top, while the Strawberry Sweetheart Matcha was just too light on the matcha flavor for me. Next time we visit, we're definitely trying their dirty sodas!

I stopped over here for a lil Saturday morning dose of coffee and sweets, and I actually quite liked my drink. I don't remember what it was called but it had macadamia in it. Now, the drink didn't taste like what I ordered, but whatever I got was really good! The Reese's cookie that I got to accompany my coffee, though? Wayyyyy tooooo sweet. (I didn't know that was a thing!) it's not bad tasting, but just very very sweet for my liking. I'll definitely come back for the coffee, but maybe l get a different cookie next time.

Protein Cookie they'll hopefully bring back
    Halle J.

Humbly asking the leader of coco playa to bring back the protein cookie I went once a week for this cookie and it was sooooooo good (I went to the location shared with Acai Carioca). Service was always fast, friendly and helpful; the girl working the front is always so nice :)

Cookie box. Left to right: chocolate chip, Dubai chocolate, blue playa, cookies and cream.

My husband and I have had our eye on this place for about a year but every time we were in the area it was either closed or we were too full from dinner nearby to fit anything sweet. I'm glad we tried it! We got a box of 4 cookies with the chocolate chip, Dubai chocolate, blue playa, and the cookies and cream. Dubai chocolate is all the craze rn but it was our least favorite. The best was the blue playa with the cookies and cream coming in at a close second. The chocolate chip was excellent too. These are waaaay better than the cookies at Crumbl. They were rich, buttery, and chewy and crispy in all the right spots. We also got the Beach, Please dirty soda, which was good, but I've had better. We like the dirty sodas at Homestyle Hawaiian better. Prices are a little steep, but what place isn't these days?

Really nice packaging for the four cookies I got

Unfortunately, this was the highlight. I ordered the "To die for" matcha with almond milk and no pumpkin cloud cream. My sister ordered the "To die for" latte with 2% milk, no pumpkin cloud cream, less milk, and more ice. We both ordered without modifications to the sweetness, under the assumption that the sweetness level wouldn't be particularly high. However, both drinks were entirely way too sweet and left a sharp aftertaste. We then ordered an additional shot of matcha and an additional shot of espresso, in hopes of remedying the taste. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't improved and we left. If you're a customer who is accustomed to a more matcha-forward taste, I would pass on this place. The matcha is pre-batched and tasted oxidized. If you're someone who likes a present espresso taste, I would recommend ordering with a quarter sweetness, although I'm not sure how that would affect the pumpkin flavor. On that note, the pumpkin flavor was difficult to place due to the sweetness, which also resulted in an inconsistent blend of flavors in both drinks. Maybe I'd come back to explore the trinkets.

Bird Rock Coffee, a San Diego native named for the little town in La Jolla known for its rock formations along the coast inhabiting various seabirds, has expanded quite a bit all across the county and this location is just as unique as the others I've visited. Attached to the cafe, you'll get a glimpse into their roasting operations. What started as a micro-roaster, this chain has garnered a following near and far for their single origins, blends, and specialty drinks. As you arrive to this location, you'll find that there's limited parking relative to the size of this building. As you step foot into the shop, you'll understand why - most of their footprint is occupied by their roasting equipment but the dining space is still relatively large compared to more niche coffee shops. Situated with small tables as well as bench tops, during my weekend excursion, there was never a time that it was completely packed so you're bound to find a spot to camp. Outlets are also available from certain spots. Ordering is simple which can be done at the register or online. The menu is quite extensive with all things coffee but consider checking their online menus as I found items like their double cappuccino that wasn't advertised on their physical menus. If you do order through their mobile app, you'll automatically get reward points toward free drinks or food. Speaking of special offers, they also offer birthday goodies so when it's that time of the year, you're in for a treat! I did end up getting the double cappuccino and it was delicious and came out hot with just enough foam to add volume to each sip. If I weren't traveling with so much stuff, I would have considered getting their bags of beans to brew at home. Fortunately, they do offer a subscription and delivery through their website so for those like me looking for a taste from afar, you're in luck! From dark to light roasts, you'll have quite a few options with the notes you desire. The staff were friendly and helpful despite constantly at full capacity. Drinks kept churning out with the same consistent quality and hospitality. Overall, Bird Rock is a local roaster you'll want to check out as their growing operations is a clear result of their consistent product quality, accessibility through its many locations and ordering methods, and excellent service. This location in particular is just blocks away from the huge playground and park next to mission bay, albeit you're better off driving. I was much too full to grab food this around but it may be worth a try to go with the coffee next time. Whether you're a local or just visiting, consider making a trip out and roost on this rock for a while!
