5 stars - with an asterisk! But this is the first week so I'm happy to give this rating. Yelp has really been pushing this place this week when you're in the neighborhood - it comes up on my activity feed as a "hot new spot." I've driven by a few times, and I don't necessarily want to linger at this corner next to a vaping shop! But my friend Emmett reviewed it this week and was impressed - so I decided to give it a try today! SERVICE: Amazing! Eva took my order in the drive through line (a human, not a machine through a speaker) - and then when I got to the window (no line), Aliya had my four cookies all ready in a box! (CoCo Chip, Nutella Bueno, Blue Playa, Lemon Zest). COFFEE: My cold brew was quite tasty. But here's an asterisk - did they really give me only 1 stevia? (I asked for it black, 1 stevia). It's super sweet! If this is in fact only one stevia, then I'm very impressed with the cold brew - but otherwise I was suspicious they added in syrups or something to make it this tasty. I'd definitely order this again, but make sure to get it unsweetened and then add the stevia myself to double check. COOKIES: They're $4.99 each or 4 for $17.99. They are not quite as warm as Batch & Box... BUT, let's be real, the Midway is not exactly gourmet central, and these were freaking good. I tasted already the Coco Chip (unbelievably moist & chocolatey) and the Nutella Bueno (ditto). My kid will tell me what he thinks of the Blue Playa and the Lemon Zest. I'd love to see a few more choices, but I was very happy to get a very tasty coffee and some yummy cookies in what's otherwise a kind of vape/traffic/central. So overall, service was FABULOUS, friendly and fast. Coffee and cookies were quite tasty. I'm not sure you need to drive from other parts of SD - but if you're here or on your way back to the 5 from Point Loma or Liberty Station, this is absolutely the spot! The girl at the front was fairly kind. I don't normally go to places like this but I needed a pick me up so I thought id get a cold brew. I saw they had cookies so I tried one of them too. I ordered their caramel vanilla option for cold brew. Long story short - the cookie was pretty good but the cold brew - didn't matter what the flavor was it just tasted like type 2 diabetes. This place is great to get a refreshing drink. I got the peachy keen with fizzy water and it was good. But I really enjoyed the Coco Crush but with the fizzy water it basically exploded all over my car which was very annoying but I don't blame the workers. It was 4pm so cookies were sold out! Bummer , but excited to try them out soon. The dirty sodas are great since you can customize with all the flavors. Stopped by for a little pick me up while on vacation. Ordered the Del Mar iced coffee and a Nutella bueno cookie. I love that you can customize the sweetness on the coffee. I got mine half sweet and it was perfect. I had the cookie layer in the day and definitely recommend eating it fresh because they will serve it warm if you're ready to eat it when you purchase it. The barista was super nice and gave me some suggestions based on my taste and what I like. This is a small shop with a drive thru and the line went super fast. read more

For being a new coffee/drink shop I was surprised by how efficient the new employees were. Dani was very nice and helped me out while ordering and made it a very quick order. I ordered a Peachy Keen fizz drink and a Del Mar iced coffee. I wish the drinks had a little more syrup in them as they were less on the sweet side than I expected, but overall still good drinks. It seems like they run out of cookies from the morning rush; so get there early to try some! Also, if you don't want to wait in a long line, come during the week after the morning rush around 11 and it will be a quick checkout! read more

We ordered a Laguna coffee and a Pom beach puncher... it was so cute but the drinks were not very good..... I was a pretty disappointed. The Pom beach puncher had no passion fruit as stated on the menu and just tasted like watered down green tea. The Laguna had some suspicious powder floating on top of the ice? Only our second time here... drove up and the person standing by the menu didn't make eye contact, didn't greet or say anything. Bf had to say "are you ready to take my order" and she said "yeah waiting on you". Then when we drove up to the window to pickup our drink, we just sat there watching everyone stare at a screen or something. Weird. I don't think we'l be back. Service is weird here. read more

OBSESSED is an understatement. This place is so ridiculously delicious. The cookies are all double stuffed and served warm. They are crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. The coffee hits perfectly. It's smooth (not bitter) and still really strong. Perfect pick me up :) The location of the coffee shop is great too. It's right off the highway. The store itself is really cute. Orange and blue, and blasting upbeat music. Also the staff is soooo sweet. They make the whole experience really fun. Happy to support a local San Diego business. I know they are known for their dirty sodas but we wanted to try the Coco signature drinks and cookie. We chose *CORONADO -Irish Cream Breve *NEWPORT -Almond Roca Coco Mocha *BLUE PLAYA cookie- A browned butter cookie base STUFFED with Chips Ahoy®, Oreo® cookies, milk chocolate, and white chocolate chips. Asher took care of us and was very helpful and kind. I really liked the Coco Signature drinks. Between the two beverages we chose ( hot) I preferred the Coronado a little better. Had a more smoother taste, but the Newport was still good. The blue playa cookie was unique and yummy. I liked the different cookies stuffed in it and when I broke it in half to share, I loved the different textures and cookies inside were a nice surprise. We went for $1 day and it was good! I was a bit disappointed that my drink came with no milk, maybe it was a miscommunication but i didn't say no milk and i don't remember being asked. Oh well. The drink was very very sweet, and that's what my friends said about theirs too. I probably wouldn't chose this place over other coffee shops, but the convenience and the discount was good. Very odd location (trying to get in and out is difficult unless you go thru the drive thru and I wanted to take my time since it was my first time there) The guy at the walk up window was SO nice (and patient because I had lots of questions) I think $25 for two drinks and two cookies is a little crazy, but it was fun to try. Obsessed! First time I tried it was when a friend bought me a care package (iced coffee and cookies) after my dog passed away. 6 months later I took my niece. I still didn't realize it wasn't a chain. We were both hooked after that visit. (I was back the next day.) I wish it was closer to my house! I get iced coffee daily and would gladly make this my go-to. I am not a Red Bull fan but my niece got the lime-coconut drink and it was fabulous! Service is terrible. I've been a few times early morning and have been left sitting at the window for 10 minutes despite the store being open and workers inside. I went back to give it another chance and wow, the blonde cashier is a nightmare. According to other reviews, I'm not the only one who experienced this. No greeting, no reactions, just "huh?" "Okay 15.68" or whatever the total was. I didn't tip and she immediately looked at the machine and rolled her eyes. If service is this consistently becoming an issue, a conversation needs to be had. The drinks and cookies aren't bad, but at this point I don't think it's worth the effort of going out of your way for it. read more

First time i came, the drive thru went smoothly, it was quick, the person who took my order was very kind and sociable. She took my order but sadly forgot to put decaf for my coffee order, mistake happens. My pumpkin spice latte was delicious though! But half way through my drink that's when i realized my coffee was label as regular and not decaf, i was very jittery. Told myself I'll give it another go though! So coffee is strong! I really want to like this place, but after many visits I think I will stop coming here. My biggest complaint is the inefficiency of the ordering system. For as long as it has been here, they have never actually used the drive thru speaker, so they just have you order at the window. This means that you have to wait for each person in front of you to completely finish their orders before yours gets started. At peak times they'll send someone out to collect orders, which definitely helps, but even then I got trapped for almost 30 minutes one time because the person in front had order sodas while the soda machine was broken so they kept probably 6 cars waiting behind them, all having already received our orders, but just trapped there while they tried to fix it. They should have asked that car to pull aside and brought out the order when finished. The drinks are yummy, but at the higher than average price point and longer than drive-thru-speed wait times, I just don't think it's a business model that will get my business any longer. My daughter and I heard about this coffee shop near Point Loma and said we will give it a shot. We went a while ago and just now decided to post. Since it was our first time there we wanted time to look over the menu so we decided to park and walk up to the window when we decided. They have a small walk up window and the cashiers were friendly. There seemed to be a bit of confusion on how to use the handheld. But that wasn't a huge deal. They did fine. We ordered quite a few cookies and few drinks. We got some juices and also some iced coffees. They juices were so good. The right amount of flavors you'd want on a fizzy drink. The iced coffee was also good. I would say I would prefer a bit more vanilla flavor in my drink . It was a bit more in the milky side but still tasted good enough to enjoy. Every cookie was so delicious. My favorite was the Blue Playa. It looks like cookie teeth coming out of it decorated with Oreos and Chips Ahoy on top . The middle of the cookie has an Oreo. This one is my favorite. The chocolate chip was was also my favorite with a soft moist cookie that melted into your mouth. So many creamy chips inside. The Nutella Bueno had so much Nutella flavor it was intense. The oatmeal raisin and the Lemon Curd were as expected it would taste like. I did enjoy them just not my top two. If you want to to enjoy the many cookies it's best to go early because they do run out fast. They make new batches I think about 3 to 4 times a day but again they sell out fast each time. We have gone back a few more times since this last visit so you know it's worth trying read more

1st time here after seeing a post on IG. The establishment is a little tricky to get to if you're coming from the south as we did. It use to be the old McDonalds Express if you're familiar with the area. The young lady that took our order was very nice and helpful since it was our first time we didn't know what to get. If you come here and are considering getting the matcha, from one matcha girl to another: just get a dirty soda or a coffee. The matcha quality is below average when compared to a regular chain coffee shop, as evidenced by the color, and the matcha flavor is non existent so the latte just tastes like sweetened milk. We went to visit CoCo Playa while we were in the area and quickly realized it's a popular spot! Most cars were in the drive thru bumper to bumper so we decided to park and walk up to order. Parking can get a little tricky as the parking lot is small (3 or so parking spots) and close to where the drive thru is. I would recommend street parking as it's easier for both coming and going. I would say both options to order took about the same amount of time. In my opinion, I preferred to walk up as it was less stressful waiting in a long line of cars and there was a cute photo op while you waited! There is also outdoor seating if you'd like to sit for a while. I would consider this to be a drive thru coffee spot where coffee is decent but not the highest quality. The coffee options were fun and seemed to be the best choice for those who like sweet drinks. We ordered the La Jolla iced coffee which consisted of caramel and vanilla breve and the Newport iced mocha which consisted of almond rocca coco mocha with oat milk. The La Jolla was refreshing and both came with cute little bendy straws. The Newport wasn't the best mocha I've tried - it could have been the oat milk that was throwing off the taste but it was quite interesting. The staff were nice and helpful when ordering and overall this was a nice visit but just not the ideal taste! Overall, I would consider this an okay option for a quick coffee on the go! read more

We decided to try out this new coffee shop and ordered the Irish Bev and La Jolla, both iced large lattes. We also got the cookies n cream and cosmic brownie cookies. The lattes were fantastic, and they were happy to make them extra sweet without any extra charge. The cookies were delicious, fresh-baked in-house. Was lucky that there weren't cars when I showed up so I can ask all about the dairy free options. Love the team as they were so accommodating in looking up the ingredients to make sure it was dairy free (mocha is the creme or creamer for the dirty sodas are not). I ordered the turtle bay mocha coffee with oat milk. It was so good even without the cream top. Their coffee sizes are nice as the small starts with 16 oz, med 24 and large 32 (please double check this last one). Definitely coming back for a dirty soda. Came for the third time this past weekend and its about damn time I write a review. Everything I've had here, I've loved. My personal favorite, even more then the cookies, is the orange muffin. They didn't warm it up for me the second time I ordered it, so be sure to ask them to warm it up. Trust me, it tastes a thousand times better! For coffee, I recommend the La Jolla. It was perfect. As far as cookies, my favorite so far was the cookies and cream. We came primarily for the cookies. Arrived at 1ish on a Saturday and was told they sold out of their noon batch and to come back at 4pm for the next batch. We were in the drive thru so we ordered drinks just so the trip wasn't a waste. I ordered the Ken subbed with Pepsi Zero instead of Diet Pepsi and hubby ordered the Pink Flamingo. We are not soda drinkers so our drinks were way too sweet for our taste buds. We ended up throwing them away midway through. I don't think we'd come back for the cookies especially if they don't bake enough. The scarcity tactic doesn't give me FOMO enough to want to try. The cookie flavors were basic and apparently they bake them every four hours. Why limit your revenue potential? The stars are for the staff who were friendly and apologetic. read more

As swig is far superior to cocoplaya, it does offer dirty sodas, which is fine and as far as I am knowledgeable I have not been able to find a place that offers these. If you never had a dirty soda it is a soda with flavors and cream/creamer. Got the dew where my car and the coco colada. The dew where is my car was Mountain Dew with blue raz and coco cream. Delicious and refreshing. It was different and delicious. The color was pretty too. Tasted like a mocktail. Bubbly, creamy and different. The coco cream cola, vanilla, pineapple and coco cream. It was good, refreshing and creamy. Great service. Super quick service. They have a parking lot and a drive through. There's apparently a bunch of secret drinks and you can make your own. Wish I went and looked at the menu online on the website because it is so nice. The website has drinks not on the menu. The visuals and description of each drink is everything. They have pretty good prices. I think the small dirty soda was only $3.99. You can also add a vegan energy drink to your drink for a little extra if you need that energy caffeine boost. I'm officially done with Coco Playa. I was such a big fan when they first opened, I even told my friends to go because of how good the Venice was. But it has seriously gone downhill, and the biggest issue is inconsistency. I get the Venice every single time because I loved it so much in the beginning that I didn't even want to try anything new. But now? Every time I go, it's a gamble. The taste changes constantly. They clearly don't use set measurements because even when I order the same size (a medium), it comes out totally different. Sometimes they go heavy on the cinnamon, sometimes it's barely there. The milk-to-coffee ratio is all over the place. I'm not trying to be a Karen--I'm just genuinely disappointed because they had so much potential. I'm attaching a side-by-side picture to show what I mean. One photo is the first Venice I ever got (perfection), and the other is the one I got today (5/8/25). They're clearly different colors, and yes--they tasted as different as they look. The one today was straight-up not good. And here's the part that really sent me: I took three sips before I got home, planning to add more milk since it tasted off. I separated the ice so it wouldn't water it down, and y'all--when I tell you the amount of ice they put in this thing?? Practically no coffee. For $8?? That's insane. I've given them so many chances, but at this point I'm tired of playing roulette every time I order. I shouldn't have to hope they make it right. Bright and energetic spot to sip on something special! The drinks are fun and creative without getting too wild. The Peachy Keen with a fizz base and Beach, Please were delicious. Feels like drinking a dessert without being overwhelmingly sweet. The cookies are THICK. Blue Playa is like a cookie that went and ate a bunch of other cookies. Filled with mini Oreos and chocolate chip cookies it is delicious and a good place to start on the cookie menu. * Drink first * I couldn't taste my drink's flavors as much after I started on the cookie. Customer service was great let's start there the team seemed like they were still trying to get a hang in the process so it took A little bit longer then expected. I ordered a coco playa cookie a medium del mar and a medium turtle bay, but when I got to the window I got the Newport I don't know how the order got messed up but it did. Being that it took long to get the order I just took it, I wasn't a fan of the coffee my wife though her coffee was blended and that wasn't the case either.
